Plus sized fishing clothing
Submitted by pigdaddy on Sun, 2012-12-30 13:41Hey guys,
Was wondering if anyone knew where to source fishing attire for us larger more flotatious fisho's. I'd love to get something like the columbia bonehead or similer (saw a blue shirt in bcf I liked the feel of, light weight/vented etc) but am having a very very hard time of it. Am looking for i guess 5xl in shirt (50inch neck) and a 6xl in pants/shorts so I can hit the beach during the day and not fry as I get burnt even under a full moon.
If anyone's happened to see any or knows of a website that can acoomodate please let me know. Am looking at US sites but its kinda daunting and confusing trying to cross match sizings etc.

Are there any to stay away from, and what problems do they have.
Currently looking at Haines Hunter Breeze 470, and Signature, Carribean Offshores. also Allison make the Fisherman 5, are there any others i should look at?
Interested in any feedback on these boats.

the disgusting ammo jetty
Submitted by Bazooked on Sun, 2012-12-30 10:54went for a bait run this morning chasing scalies and wasnt dissapointed as usuall, except for all the shyte laying around! i could not believe how much rubbish was on the jetty, from broken beer bottles to fishing line, busted up chairs you name it, it was there!
i was about to packup and head home when i saw a senior citizen rockup with large garbage bags and a claw, had a brief chat to her, she does this 3 times a week and most of the time fills the 3 bags every time, and there not little!, she was saying how this is my beach and its just getting worse and whishes the jetty was never there, and after seeing the state of the jetty i was wishing the same!

Dhufish Sizes
Submitted by C.P on Sun, 2012-12-30 10:34Some other site members may remember the shacks on Whitford beach. My grandfather had one at the southern end near what is now called pinnaroo point. He & his mates fished out from there from just after the second world war until the shacks were removed - around 1975 I think. They caught many varieties of fish but their main target was dhuies. They had an honour board in the boat shed on which they drew the outline of their best catches & added the weight, date caught & name of the fisherman. Only the best fish made it onto the honour board & looking back I'm a bit surprised that their biggest dhuie was only 35 lb & from memory there weren't many over 25 lb. Now I hav'nt caught a 35 lb dhufish but these guys were fishing virgin water. I would have thought there would have been a couple of monsters amongs them. Of course they didnt have echo sounders & GPS (they used a cord line with bolts tied to the end & tapped the bottom to check the hardness) but they had their land marks off rotnest & they caught alot of dhuies. So I'm interested in the contrast with today. Most of mine are around 6 - 7 KG & my biggest is 11 KG. What is the case for you?

Scorpion fish and other nasties
Submitted by joycey on Sun, 2012-12-30 08:11Heh guys,
Bit of a newbie to all this
Was out yesterday, good fun and managed a dhuie
Unfortunately mate on board got spiked by a scorpion fish, we weren't aware it was harmful. Looked nasty so we unhooked overside but he still got spiked !
I'd be grateful for future reference for info on the main critters that I may come across in the metro area that are potentially harmful and how to handle them and what to do if get hit.
Cheers

Blue Eye Tevalla - Friday's " Super Deep " fish!!!
Submitted by Anonymous on Sun, 2012-12-30 00:51With all my Fishing WA (TV) filming commitments all done I was keen to head offshore!
My mate Shaun ( FW-Shabba) said I’m over worked of late so get me out fishing....please!!!
I said no probs what do you prefer to target ..... he said “ Super Deep fish" as I haven’t done that in like 18 months and I need to get some quality fish in the freezer!!!
Ok doke.....with the forecast looking pleasant the offshore green light is a goer!!!
On the way out I pulled my two cray-pots and got some crays (mixure of whites and reds) then proceeded offshore to the “Super deep” waters (200m-500m)
I looked around for fish on the Furuno sounder and after a short time found a school of Blue-eye Trevalla and I said to Shabba ........drop your baits!
Down went the slimy mackerel baits in 360m of water and it wasn’t long before the baits hit the ground. The Blue eye bit hard and as per usual I said to Shaun let them take the bait and wait for the double header!!!
That he did and with a full load up on the Jigging Master rod, Shaun was onto a double header!
Shaun's First " Blue-eye Trevala" and a double header at that!!

Shabba said your turn, I put on my ‘ Super Deep 1kg Jig” and dropped down......within seconds I was on and it was fighting like a solid Blue-eye indeed!!
After a good fight (manual wind up) I boated my solid Blue-eye Trevala on the ‘ Super Deep 1kg Jig”
I did a second drift over the same school of Blue-eye with the identical jig and whammo I was on again!

3 Drifts for 4 fish ...happy days.....a great day on the water with a good mate ![]()
Gear used;
* Daiwa Megatwin electric reel (With JM drag upgrade)
* Jigging Master Evolution Titanium 400 overhead rod
* Berkley whiplash Braid 80lb
* Oceanside Custom Super Deep Rig (Shabba)
* 48oz sinker (drift wasnt too fast)
* Whole slimy mackerel baits (butterfly/tail cut out)
* Super Deep 1kg Japanese Jig (Ryan)

Puka!!
Submitted by southcity104 on Sat, 2012-12-29 15:06Headed out at sparrows on friday in what looked like to be a glassy day on the brine and it didnt disappoint. first drop in the deep payed off with a double hook up of trevalla and then we lined up for a day of trolling and sounding. We found groups of small mahi spread about but to no size but did see some large splashes on the surface which looks like could have been bigger fish. Activity on the bottom seemed to be sitting high on the edges and spread pretty thin. eventually we moved closer to home and after a couple of drops picked up our last fish for the bag and headed home. Had a work mate out for some first time deep drop and had him converted in no time. Had to take a second look at his hapuka as it was as fat as a bass! Awesome day out there!

Daiwa D-Shock Bi spin combo
Submitted by Mars2atk on Sat, 2012-12-29 14:40Hi everyone, hope you all had a good Christmas.
My best mate bought me a 7ft, 3000 reel D-Shock for Christmas and I was wondering if this would be decent enough as an everyday rod for catching whiting off the beach and some bream and flatties from the river. It's my first brand new rod, everthing else I've used has been 'temporarily acquired' from my dad and I'm pretty sure he just picks them up from garage sales.
I'm on a pretty tight budget for a little while (trying to save up for uni books
) but I can probably add a few bucks to upgrade it if I take it back to BCF for something a tad better. Also, what line should I have on the spool? I was thinking of re-spooling it with some braid, but I wasn't quite sure on what weight I should use.
Thanks guys!

Flatties on SP's
Submitted by Bruce on Sat, 2012-12-29 12:20Some of my first soft plastic flathead and flounder from the Swan yesterday on Squidgie 50mm in the gold/black. Was a great day, weather was superb, woke up at 5, slept in till 5:30 and was on the water by 6! We caught whiting, 3 flatties, flounder, small pinkies and a couple of trumpeter. Also saw a huge Bream or larger Snapper following up the smaller pinkie as we were winding it in but I couldn't manage to hook it.

Bloody Pingers
Submitted by Braxi on Fri, 2012-12-28 20:21Ive had it happen out wide, travelling 25-40 kms off shore only to see another boat following at about 2kms behind. We turned right, they turned right. We just kept going out and as our boat was considerably larger than theirs they ended up dropping off but not for a good 15kms. Hope he used all his fuel for no reason.
But then we were up the creek the other day, saw no one for nearly 2 days and then another boat worked its way up the creek only to start trolling up our stretch of the creek. Fair enough to drop their lines in but then they just kept cutting laps up and down the section we had obviously been fishing.
One positive was that we landed 5+ barra right in front of them and they got squat. Until they got close enough to see what we were trolling with and swapped their lures to match ours, which, unfortunately, started catching them some fish. There is kilometres of creek up there and they had to cut laps up our 300m section. And not only troll up the same spot but trolling behind us and turning around before we did to keep them over the spot that was producing. Wherever we landed a fish they were straight over to that spot. They even parked right in the channel and flicked, blocking half of the creek off.
It might be a bit of a whinge but very unsportsmanlike and a bit rude if you ask me.

Makes my blood boil
Submitted by catchalittle on Fri, 2012-12-28 19:45Was out out wide today and on numerious occasions both my brother and I spotted fish floundering on the surface,we came across three undersized dhuie's and two decent sized sambo's it really gives me the shits that people cannot do the right thing we sent all the above mentioned fish back down with a release weight and all were successful. Some people dont have a clue.
On another point was good to see the fisheries officers making a presence at the Leuwin barracks ramp today they managed to ping two people while we were there taking too many fish under the one licence when will people learn

Tiger shark photo
Submitted by Gav475 on Thu, 2012-12-27 21:09Soap box time. Just had a look on Perth now and saw the photo of a headless tiger shark foung by beach goers at a local groyn. WTF. What are people thinking .. No dramas catching them if thats your thing but dont leave it laying around to stink up a beach and give the anti fishing groups more ammunition. If this was you, you are a complete muppet and I look forward to bumping into you next time you do it.
Rant over
