Diawa Sealine 30 - IIs - Preset/Freespooling ?
Submitted by Dreamweaver on Thu, 2008-01-10 15:35A while ago, I purchased two Diawa Sealine 30 IIs for bottom bouncing. Good solid real with the advantage of the two ratios.
As should be done, set the preset (drag) with the lever drag in the strike position.
However, I've noticed in a light drift when using a very light sinker, the free spool position of the lever drag still doesn't actuall free spool as such, there is still some resistance.
No problem with a heavier sinker though.
Any comments folks?
I can get the reel to free spool more quickly (free-er) by backing off the preset, but then, in tightening the preset 'in-situ' I run the risk of extending too high in to the rating of the line (using the std 1/3 setting method).

Beach fishing
Submitted by Colin Hay on Thu, 2008-01-10 09:03Has anyone fished the Perth metro beaches recently. I was wondering if there was much around at the beaches between Cottesloe and Hillarys. The wind is not looking too good but I feel like tossing a mulie into the waves this arvo,

Centre cab v centre consol
Submitted by Brian on Wed, 2008-01-09 18:28Looks like we've got a buyer for the 5.5 demo, will be the shortest time i've owned a boat, but the point of this topic is that i've always wanted a centre cab and that was the plan, if the sale goes through we would build a 5.8 centre cab, but had a couple of people say that the cabs a waste ao space better of with a good size centre consol and have heaps more deck space, so if any one has owned or knows someone who has had a centre cab i would be interested to hear your thoughts, thanks and keep hookin them.

Fishing Highlights of '07
Submitted by jay_burgess on Sat, 2008-01-05 20:46Well another year has ended... what have been the highlights for you? Has it been a good year or poor or average and why?
Been a good year for myself, landed my biggest Threadfin Salmon at 112cm and my biggest Black Jewfish at 114cm. Also equaled my PB Mangrove Jack at 50cm.
Also landed my first Red off Dampier, only a tiddler but good to get off the mark.
Probably my most memorable experience was my first barra on lure, which was land based too so it was pretty special.
My biggest barra for the year was 94cm, although not caught this current season it was an 06/07 fish and my biggest for the year.
Getting smoked by big Bluebone was an unreel experience, unfortunately I didn't manage to land any but it won't be something I will forget too soon. Thanks Brad.
Also landed my first fish on SP in '07 and I'm sure I've probably caught over 15 species so far and still counting.
Well that kinda sums it up I'm sure there's probably some other stuff I've forgotten but these are the bits that stand out the most, enjoy the pics.
112cm Threadfin Salmon
50cm Mangrove Jack
First Barra on lure
114cm Black Jewfish
Barra aprox 93-94cm

Drift bait missing the mark
Submitted by Dean on Wed, 2007-12-26 18:56I used a Drift bait for about half the day and I missed atleast 5 real good bites. The fish would be biting and I would hook up for about 1-2 seconds then It would come off.
Using 7/0 Gamakatsu octopus hooks, 100lb supple black magic trace and a 5oz barrel sinker, baited the 2 hooks with Sgt Baker, Squid and both seemed as bad as each other, for missing a hook up.
And I should mention that I have caught about 10 dhuies on the same style rig and baldchin and snapper. Any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong.
