Shark Mackeral
Submitted by Wazza79 on Tue, 2013-02-12 18:38Headed out from Hillaries yesterday with a fellow FW member and trolled up this little Shark Mack just behind the 3 mile. Decided to keep it as I've never tried eating one before and couldnt find any info on their eating quality, so bleed and put into the ice slurry. Filleted up nicely and crumbed and cooked tonight for dinner and although the meat looks sweet and white, it tastes like shite. Very floury in texture and still had that ammonia taste to it. Happy to say Shark Mackies are now a catch and release species.
Caught on a Richter Jnr Tornado
Cheers again to Alwaysfishin for the day out and the happy snap.

22.5 Black Bart Dinner
Submitted by Knot Big Enuff on Tue, 2013-02-12 11:13Hey ...
Just thought I may throw this question out, may be someone out there has the same ..
I have a 22.5" Black Bart Dinner skirt (1998 design); it's mainly designed for Wahoo (high Speed), however, years ago, People recorded Billies being caught on them too.
Anyone out there has got one? I'm only asking as I enquired to Bart regarding the way they swim; they jump & dart like no other skirt in the spread! If so, any sucess on them, being Marlin, Wahoo or even Tuna?
Thanks for the help

Working in Onslow
Submitted by TAPOUT on Tue, 2013-02-12 08:09Looking at taking a job in Onslow. Be there for 4 weeks each trip. Just looking for info on what's in town and what the land based fishing is like. Anyone else working up there? Wondering if it's worth bringing the family up once in a while to break up the time away from them. Just not sure if there is much for them to do if they came up for a week or two. Any advice or info would be much appreciated.

New to WA
Submitted by maxor2008 on Mon, 2013-02-11 21:17Hi Guys,
I recently moved over to Perth from Sydney and I'm keen to get stuck into some fishing here.
As I am in unfamiliar territory and dont enjoy fishing alone, I thought I'd appeal to those of you who could do with an extra fishing buddy (be it on a boat or landbased).
I have all of my own gear for all types of fishing (light gear/beach rods/heavy jigging gear/rock fishing gear etc) and I am willing to pay for my share of bait/petrol/food/etc.
I'd consider myself somewhat experienced as I do quite a bit of fishing back east - chasing various bread and butter fish (bream/whiting/flathead) to bigger species (kingfish/mulloway/bonito/salmon) to bait gathering (squid/yakkas).
I'm based in East Perth and recently bought a car (so transport isn't an issue).
Shoot me a msg if you're looking for a mate to fish with.
Cheers!

Probaby a dumb question - sorry in advance
Submitted by Oracle on Mon, 2013-02-11 21:08I've seen a number of what looks like big "hills hoist clothes hangers" in the river. usually around clubs of some sort. In the water, half falling over. pipes hanging from them.
What are they for?

dinghies stored along the swan river foreshore ?
Submitted by perth fisher on Mon, 2013-02-11 18:37what's happening with dinghy storage along the river foreshore ?
I thought i heard that some areas like peppermint grove have removed dinghies being stored on the foreshore, and people need to use kayaks and inflatables to access boats moored in the river ?
Is that going to happen for all areas or is it different for all the councils ?
In some river parks i can see there being space for dinghies, but along many parts of the river dinghies do get in the way of river access if you are walking or going for a fish from shore

East Freo Boat Fire
Submitted by gib77 on Mon, 2013-02-11 08:58Hey, does anyone know any information on the boat in east freo, that caught fire yesterday?
Always scares the hell out of me when I see this, especially with families onboard. Apparently soon after refuelling.
Something I only learnt recently is that you should check that your fuel filler is earthed to your tank to stop any static electricity causing fire...
Hope everyone was ok.....
Is there any reporting on incidents by marine authorities, that we can see, so that we can learn from incidents. Obviously theres been a few boats capsizing lately too.

Send me a PM if interested or want more info, price $1,700. Will be mostly fishing, with some free diving/spearing too.

What happened to being treated fairly!
Submitted by Shane O on Mon, 2013-02-11 07:26Ok,
Was going back to the Mary street lagoon on Sunday morning, had my 2kids with me. Have not been out with them for ages and have moved twice in a couple of months due to renting and our house being built. Which is taking ages, dickheads everywhere clearly breaking the rules. And got pulled over by the dept of transport in there shiny boat!
Good morning sir, we have run a check on your boat and it is not registered. Was unaware it had expired and tried to explain it probably got lost in mail redirection, they could not have cared less?

Landing large fish by yourself?
Submitted by TorquenFish on Sun, 2013-02-10 22:40So after my ray incident on Friday night I have been pondering how I would land a good fish (decent Mulla etc) off rocks when fishing by myself? What's best to go with, gaff, net? Any tips/techniques so you can avoid the heart break of losing a cracker of a fish right at the death?
Jesse.

Beach speeding
Submitted by Fisheagle on Sun, 2013-02-10 21:32Witnessed a lot of guys speeding on the stretch North of Preston Beach this weekend. In some places the beach is quite narrow and speeding vehicles come in close proximity of anglers.
This one was not so lucky!

Pb blue and a little bronzie this weekend
Submitted by Chris fish on Sun, 2013-02-10 20:59Had a bad run at a new spot shark fishing and between me and a mate we lost 7 sharks in the 5 hours we have spent there ranging from 1.5m ones on cast baits we lost at our feet to some monsters that where just to big for even our heavy gear and just made us look stupid so it was a major relief to finally land one of these even if it was only a small bronzie.

Yesterday morning I got a dive in and managed this nice blue that is now my pb! Seen plenty of queenys and few bonito and a big bluefin around 15-20kg but there where to fast or I had an unloaded gun. Only got the one fish but that's all I was after as I still have a bit in the freezer.

Gear gone swimming at Preston Beach
Submitted by Fisheagle on Sun, 2013-02-10 20:21Went fishing at my favourite Tailor spot about 10km North of Preston Beach this weekend. Caught a number of Tailor and a Shovelnose Ray during the day. As the sun was setting I attached my new Daiwa Saltist 50H to the Purglas 350 rod which I recently imported and slid a Tailor head out for Shark. I continued fishing for Tailor and when I turned around to check on my rod it was gone! My mate and I took a couple of casts and he managed to hook onto the rod and could feel the fish pulling. He managed to gain a couple of metres before his 4kg line snapped. We spent the next hour casting trebles into the dark to try and hook the rig - but to no avail.
If anybody does pull my rig out by chance please let me know - willing to pay a reward.

Blackies Jumping!!
Submitted by Bruce on Sun, 2013-02-10 17:30Sorry, no pictures but saw some people assemble a huge green and yellow air pillow object at Black Wall Reach. Put someone on the 'pillow', then get 2 blokes to jump from the wall and send them flying 30 feet in the air!!! Plenty of people watching and they also had a basket ball ring trying to do some dunks!!! Looked like fun!
