Any tips where to find KG's and skippy out of Mindarie?

Went out of Mindarie last wekend and tried in the 20m depths pretty much straight out of Mindarie for not even a bite. Then out further to 25 - 26m and nothing. came in close and drifted through 18 - 10m area and got heaps of wrasse and a few small breaksea cod. Using squid for bait. Any tips in which direction or other depths i should be looking for? how about around the wreck just north of mindarie any advice appreciated as im gonna try again this weekend

Hi all thought you might want to see an inivative new way to repower your boat for them blown out days or times like the current fishing ban . Got to say the first trial was a sucsess but were still not sure if this will acturly float... only real issue came up when we tride to run it on bottled water

Shore Catch Photo and Story Competition - Winners

Thank you to everyone that entered our recent photo and story competition.  There were some excellent entries and the judges (Callum and Luke) went through them all carefully and decided the winners.  The judges looked at not only the quality of the fish but the story that went with it as well.  Set out below are the winners, prizes, photos and stories.  Thanks again, and we will hold further competitions in the future.

MadMerv – Small MadFish Bag

Decided to head out of Two Rocks for an overnighter Sat. Was really hoping the weather man didn’t get it to wrong as heading to the 70m area and if it is windy it stays rough out there.

The boat has just had a bit of engine work done so we headed up to Moore river for the trial run and to see if we could pick up a few wrasse for Dhu bait. Somebody looked like they were heading in to salvage that 42 foot Laguna while we were floundering around with both of us in the bilge fixing a slight oil leak. They didn’t even wave when I popped my head up on hearing their boat, just drove on by..Lol

Well we must be shocking wrasse fishermen because we only caught 1. Picked up a nice pinkie as bycatch so all was not lost. The easterly was dropping a bit so headed out to a spot where we have caught nothing but Baldies. The Baldies must all have gone north for the winter as we struck out there but again got another Pinkie as consolation just on sunset.

The weather was perfect out there with just a light breeze blowing so the drifts were good although it was changing around a lot and it was bitterly bloody cold. We moved into the 40-50m range and did a bunch of drifts over some chunky ground that was holding fish but got nothing but frustrated with a couple of sharks and a stack of bolt cutter snipping off our hooks.

Towards sunset we headed in to anchor up and burley up with some Shore Catch shred. I was floating a mulie down the burley trail when something hit and started a massive run. A big zigzag left and right, went deep and then straight for the surface where it did a big jump. It was out of the range of our lights, 50m or so away, so we only saw the big splash of water and heard the slap. The stradic was screaming and 30lb braid was not slowing this down so to save myself the pain of respooling I grabbed the spool and snapped the line at about the 100m mark. Another "one that got away" story to add to the list and speculation on what it was. Tuna, Spaniard? or just an active ray??

We finished off the morning with a ripper 75cm snapper, Blackass and a couple of just size Dhu's. Actually my first success on soft plastics getting both Dhufish so I was pretty stoked.

Ryan Webber - $50 of Big John’s Jigs and 5kg Mulie Shred Block

Following the BoM and seabreeze through the week saw Friday producing the goods for a day fishing, so me and the old man called it and took the day off work, and as we always do before heading fishing we went into Shore Catch to buy some shred and bait, 1kg of squid and a bag of mullet fillets, anyway headed out to one of our spots north of Mindarie and 5kgs of shred straight in the water and weighted down to near the bottom, dad had been catching a variety of fish morning with me not even a bite, Until the moment happened the large unweighted mullet bait I had floating down to the bottom got smashed on my brand new combo! At first I thought I had finally caught myself a monster pinkie due to what felt like head shakes, but after 5 minutes of line peeling off the reel I changed my mind to a big sambo and after another 35 minutes we finally got colour and changed my decision to a nice big tuna! At this point the fish was starting to tire the net was no option for this beauty so gaff it was got my first ever yellow tail kingfish to the boat, I have never been so happy with a fish than I was that day, measured at 1140mm long and a weight of 12.5kg and boy was that was one amazing feed!

Hope this wasn't too long winded and boring for everyone I'm not one for writing story's! Happy fishing everyone

Giuseppe Siciliano – Shore Catch Shirt and 5kg Mulie Shred Block

Purchased two 3kg bags of individually frozen mullies from Shore Catch this Friday morning. Headed north just a few hours from Perth. My first big mulloway 16kg caught it at about 7:30. Thanks Shore Catch for the great quality mullies. They didn’t fall apart and kept their shape and gave me plenty of time in the water.

Grant Currie - $50 Shore Catch Shop Voucher

92cm at 14.7kg.  Caught a few months ago in 14mts water behind little island. 6.30pm using snelled rigs, shredded mulies, vacuum packed mulies for bait and frozen burley log all from Shore Catch Wangara!!

Any suggestions for land based fishing near Margaret river?

Going to Margaret river with a few other couples and just looking for a spot to do some land based fishing just chasing herring, skippy, tailor and have a beer preferably out of the wind to keep the girls happy. Was thinking of that beach just a couple of hundred metres north of surfers point at the river mouth there? any other suggestions for a spot close to that area appreciated as I don't know the area well at all. Taking a couple of 4WD's so a 4WD area close to there would be good too cheers for any help

Newbie

Hello fishwreckers- been reading the forums for ages now; great work by the way, very envious of alot of your adventures . Myself, been living in Albany for a couple of years now, from New Zealand, love to get out 'n' amongst it all. I am pretty much landbased. I like the adventurous stuff but usually come out with only a story to tell n not much fish to show for my efforts haha! I don't have a boat but do have a kayak even tho i haven't really been out on it cos a bit worried i'll be mistaken for a baby whale.I am also into freediving, crayfish is my achilles heel even tho I haven't found one yet anyway looking to link up with some like minded fulla's to share some adventures with.

thanks guys look forward to sharing some adventures on here.

little report to finish up on: weather was pretty wild down here on saturday so decided to go for a roam check out some new ground. i parked at the top of a hill cos the track looked a little to rough to drive down; anyway walked down this track bout 600 metre's get to the waters edge an there's this massive blue groper feeding directly below me; watched it for about ten minutes clear as day, awesome sight!

Kailis Brothers Prawns?

Bought these the other day and didnt think twice until reading the back at home.  Not sure if this has always been the way or new since being bought out?

CPBA new parking setup

Hey guys
for anyone who launches at CPBA.
please be aware there are new parking lines marked and the setup is pretty well opposite way of parking (once you see it you'll understand) facing north.
With also a few more parking bays top of where the diagonal rig up bays are.

just take a few minutes to familiarize yourself before going into autopilot :)

Cheers

Replacement rod piece (travel rod)

Hey all. I snapped the end (5th) piece of my LOX YOSHI TRAVEL - LS7655 rod this morning and was wondering if it could be replaced. I admit I'm not familiar with this brand, I think it was a couple of hundred bucks to buy. Has anyone ever been able to contact a rep before and replace a rod section. The thing is not repairable. Does anyone know if there is a rep for YOSHI in Australia.

Cheers

Soft plastic advice

 Hi guys

I am pretty new to soft plastic fishing and l was wondering when using mono do you need to use a swivel.

And what are some good sp to target herring whiting bream.

Also what are some good jigheads to cast further enough off the beach with a small hook.

 Hi All,

Just chasing to see if any one knows where to get the crab floats pictured seen a guy using them in mandurah last year and lost his contact details, absolute brillant idea as you can pack all your nets on top of each other with floats deflated.

Hillaries and ocean reef PARKING

straight from the horses mouth:

"There are two boat-launching ramps within the City. One is located at Hillarys Boat Harbour (Northside Dr) and another can be found at the Ocean Reef Boat Harbour (Boat Harbour Quays). Launching fees are applicable and contain ample parking for vehicles and boat trailers."

http://www.joondalup.wa.gov.au/Explore/Beaches/Activities.aspx

I have been reading the other post with a bit of interest, but from what I can see/read, it is clearly a launching fee.

Boat transport

Hiya I've got a 6m boat on trailer I need taken from Perth delivered to Port Hedland, is there any company's that anyone knows of that can provide that service?

thanks

My first crayfishing "rookie mistake"!!

Bought a box of 5kg blue mackies Saturday morning, eagerly baited up a cray pot in the car garage which is my "man cave" (don't use it for the cars) and took pot out on boat and dropped it. Left for work this morning (Thursday) and just before we got to the front door to leave daughter asks "whats that horrible smell!" opened internal door to car garage and smell hit me! I had left the friggin box of blue mackies right next to the deep freezer!! stunk like F^&k!, garage must be fly-proof cause there were none in there. My fault for being to keen hopefully this helps so no one else makes same mistake - and if you smell something real bad down at Mindarie boat ramps - its just me launching with my rotten baited pots, hope the crays like em ha ha cheers dave

Replacement esky

my Coleman hinges bit the dust, yes you can get replacements BUT Coleman only use mild steel screws so impossible even with an easy out to remove them, the plastic simply heats and melts....there used to be a member that sold fibreglass insulated coolers on here....is he still around ? .
