Review on Bellcraft and Saavage Tasman

Hi all, maybe this is the correct place to put this post...

I am after peoples views, all posative or negative as may be the case, on the following boats. Will they be good for a first timer boat, wanting to do Swan river, cockburn sound, carnac island....what about rotto on an excellent day?

Savage Tasman 4.8m 40hp

BellCraft 15ft???? 60hp

Bellcraft $3000 (he does have another Add up saying $2850)

Bayshore boats

I have had mine for 1 year now and shes a good boat. Its a 6.8 Hard top although the hard top was an add on. I have heard people say they have had trouble with broaching with these hulls. I'm interested to know if anyone else has one of these boats and what they think of them. I did see another one exactly the same as mine ( besides the hard top ) in mandurah about 4 weeks ago so i know theres at least two of them left haha.

Plate aluminiums

I've been in the market for a Bar Crusher however I've come across Moda Custom boats, specifically a Moda Express 7000 series. Does anybody know anything about these boats - look awesome on the website www.modamarine.com.au however are they suitable for WA waters, quality, etc ?

Anyone own a Reef Runner?

Any of the FW guys own a Caribbean Reef Runner that fancy posting any reviews/ pics? I'm maybe thinking about one in the future and looking for any comments.

I fish 2-4 guys mainly out of Safety bay upto 50kms out, the odd occasion further to the deep, some solo missions, check cray pots before work, sometimes dive with 1-2 others. I do a trip up to Shark Bay once a year and a hand full of trips up jurien way, family days up the river etc.

I would be possibly looking at a new hull and trailer with my existing 2014 175 suzuki. Is there any changes over the years that makes one model better than the other? are there things that are must have accessories such as trim tabs? I'm 6'6" would the hard top be high enough?

I haven't been on one yet but I would like to hear from some owners if they think it would be suitable for the above...

Cheers...

seaswirl striper 2100 WA

hey guys has anyone had any experiences with the seaswirl striper 2100 WA?

looking to buy one from 1999 with a 2012 200HP merc optimax with 190hrs with 2 1/2 years warranty left on it

i heard that the stringers could potentially be wood cored?

this hull is a 1999 and i believe they started doing foam cores in 2000?

anyone have any experiences with these? handle the swell/chop well?

looking to get my first boat and the budget has definitelly increased because i want a boat i will use for a long time

the search is getting narrower! hopefully i can find a good deal soon!

i did look at the 2006 trophy 1802 WA's which i did like being a little smaller with the walk around option and smaller engines but cant seem to find any in that size in WA

anyone have experiences with tri hulls?

hey guys has anyone got any experience with tri hulls?

looking at an older pride trihull 1987 over the next weekend powered by a johnson 115 (1999) which had a new power head put in it 2.5 years ago

anything you love about them? anything you hate?

cheers team!

quick boat review 19ft kingcraft

hey guys looking at getting the boat below

http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/geraldton-6530/motorboats-powerboats/19ft-kingcraft-cabin-cruiser/1079962324

i ended up checking out the 5.5m fraser on the weekend which had the 200HP on the back

not a bad boat but it needs a new sounder and canopy with clears

the bloke selling this kingcraft says its a 1985 hand woven wa hull (not sure what that means)

engine has around 300-40 hours

could someone give me feedback on what i should look out for before i head to geraldton to have a look?

obviosly il organise a test on the engine before buying

im assuming the 120HP is enough?

cheers lads

fibreglass vs Ali

hey guys new to boating so looking to do a little more research

probably an obvious one to you but what are the main differences between fibreglass and Ali?

obviosly Ali is lighter but how does that benefit a boater?

i know fibreglass is heavier and goes through the chop nicer so why do so many people buy ali boats?

im looking at something around the 20ft mark, seen some cracker ali fishing boats but not sure how they would handle the chop and swell and the main reasons people would buy them?

thanks for the feedback in advance :)

size to HP question

 hey guys

quick one, iv been searching for boats of recent and have found a fraser half cab 5.5m late 80's hull

it has a yamy 200hp v6 on the back (dont know the year, he sent a photo which reads 688 yamaha 5D-0146 maybe someone can decypher?)

iv been researching these size boats for a while now and 200HP seems to be overkill for this sie of a boat? most i have seen have ranged from 90hp-115hp

would anyone have any insight into this for me? im buying my first boat for rotto trips and kalbarri trips

also he has tried to find the engine year on the motor but cant find it anywhere?

thanks boys! :)

what is the best locally built 6m fibreglass centre console boat?

Hi,

I've been searching the net extensively looking for WA boat manufacturer who builds 6m fibregalss centre consoles for a reasonable price. I found plenty over east but very little in WA. Anyone got any suggestions? Surely there are some? thanks

Chivers Safari

Hi
Getting an itch to do another project and whilst i love the Bertram 20 Bahia Mar its probably a bit small for me - the Safari (23 ft) is very similar in design and looked at one a few years ago and remember thinking how solid and well put together it seemed

I have heard that the Seamaster broaches badly in a following sea, know that this is a different hull but was looking for feedback from anyone who cant tell me a bit about the Safari's ride characteristics

cheers

Trailcraft 6400 Sportscab

Does anyone have any feedback on them, beyond ally hulls slamming?

Seriously contemplating upgrading from a CC due to having a family and needing more protection. The 6400 I like due to having the V Berth and plenty of deck space.

WellCraft Coastals Series

Hey All

leisure Cat 8000

Shortly taken delivery on a new Leisure Cat 8000,
My experience with the Kevin and his staff from the beginning has been fantastic, I short listed what I believe the best Cats in the market, leisure Cat and Noosa cat, I decided to go forward with the leisure Cat 8000, which I expect will be delivered within 2 weeks.
From the beginning negotiations with Kevin, and throughout the build period Kevin has been up front, helpful and professional at all times, in fact he had omitted an item after the contracts were sign, I contacted him later to discuss the issue, without any hesitation he agreed to my request and resolved the issue, at cost to himself.
being a typical fisherman I had made numerous changes throughout this period, Kevin was helpful and consist from day one, good to see a bit of old fashion service still getting around,
Will provide a post once boat has arrived and tested, looking forward

Am I being unreasonable ?

Hi all,

First time poster on this forum but have been reading on here since returning to WA from Sunny north QLD a few months back for work reasons.

I had a small 4m Stessco tinny in Cairns and used it a little bit before realising it wasn't the right boat for what I needed. No real problem, cheap boat and on sold no problems.

When we got here I started hunting for a new boat for me and the family to use, with Cockburn sound and FFB being the areas we would frequent the most. A nice 475 bayhunter came up on gumtree (2 actually, one 4.5 and one 4.75) but I missed being able to view/purchase these due to work commitments and they sold really quickly. Enter another vessel for sale that with the pod comes in at 4.85m. All appeared reasonably well with this vessel ( few minor areas of bubbling paint but nothing too serious. The boat has spent some time moored in the water with a hull mounted anode that appears to have been working as it should. After spending a fair amount of time inspecting I left to contemplate my offer although the vessel is cheapish, it is still a large capital to lay down.

I made an offer to the seller with some conditions, The conditions were that I wanted to conduct a compression test (I have all the gear), a leg oil check, inspect under the floor and a quick sea trial just to make sure all is well when on the water. The seller seemed happy with the cash offer, however; feels that allowing me to do a compression test and lifting the floor is too risky for fear of damage to his boat. I understand to a degree his concerns (The motor has no kill switch, but a remote starter switch with the ignition off would negate his fears of blowing a coil). I would be happy to replace all leg oil after inspection (As I would have done this prior to using anyway)and a floor inspection is a must on an ally boat in my opinion. There is some white build up and a spot of oil around the head on the outboard. I know that the white build up is relatively normal as this is the area that is unpainted (Head and block where they meet the gasket) but am unsure of where the oil weep was coming from and figured at a minimum the compression test should be done. He hasn't owned the vessel all that long and due to personal circumstances needs to move it on. I don't believe that he is hiding any problems on purpose and seems to be a genuinely nice guy.

Am I being to over the top in my inspections for an older vessel ??

Cheers
Dane

Please help me

Hello everyone, can someone please help me to track down the details of the Markham dominator cat that split, flipped and sunk in wa a few years back now.....? I would really appreciate any help.. I'm after more photos of the boat inside and outside and even details of who owned it at the time. I think I have ended up with this boat and some very dodgy repairs. Please help me

Suzuki or yamaha

 All,

currently looking at a quintrex 610 cruiseabout. I am looking at the option of a 150hp yamaha or 175hp Suzuki (both 4 stroke). I had a quintrex freedom sport 10 or so years ago, a 570 with a 115 yamaha. It never missed a beat, but I'm reading very good reviews on the suz. There's a $500 difference between the 2 outboards, the suz being $500 more. I'm inclined to the suz.

can anyone give me some experiences having a 175hp (or similar) Suzuki outboard?

cheers

Which 40hp 2st?

I'm planning on upgrading the outboard on the tinnie from a 25, to a 40, she is a bit of a slug with 4 people on board.

Ihave done the ring around and have got some prices, just wondering about if anyone has one, how it goes.

All looking at most basic 40, manual tilt, manual start, premix fuel.

Yamaha 2 cylinder 1 carb enduro $4500, 2 year warranty

Suzuki 2 cylinder 1 carb $4000, 2 year warranty

Mercury 3 cylinder 3 carb $4000, 5 year warranty.

So the mercury is in the lead.

My uncle in Guilderton has the Suzuki 30 with no problems in 2 years from new.

40HP YAmha vs MErcury 4 stroke

Looking at getting a 420 Rengade Tiller steer from quintrex.

The two dealers in Perth will sell me either Mercury or Yamaha 40HP four strokes.

Any feedback on either of them??
