Towball Weight
Submitted by Paw on Tue, 2018-09-04 23:17Here is a question for those in the know. I was surfing around Dunbier's site and noticed that under their FAQs they state that the towball weight should not exceed 5 - 7% of the BMT. I was always under the impression it was supposed to be around 10% (which my setup is)? Further surfing then revealed a couple of schools of thought. One school saying under 10% increases the chance of sway whilst another school says over 7% puts undue pressure on the towing vehicle potentially presenting unsafe conditions and increasing the wear on the vehicle.
What are your thoughts?

new gps ...furuno or lowrance ??
Submitted by hezzy on Mon, 2018-09-03 20:00ok , so my gps units could do with an upgrade
currently I am running two ,,original is a Furuno ,with about 800 + waypoints still works well , but id like to have a bigger screen , colour etc and upgrade it as the screen lettering is starting to fade
second unit I acquired a few years ago with a boat buy is a hummingbird , its colour and works well ,has about 675 waypoints on it
so I have always had good life with no hassles from the Furuno , so I was thinking to upgrade with Furuno … it will likely be a gps, sounder combo … but ill only be wanting to run it as a full gps as I have a good Furuno 620fcv, with a 2kw transducer that does all I need
so talking to a few peeps , some are advising to go with Lowrance ? , as Furuno are exy and Lowrance will be better value and make better gps ??
to date iv not done a lot of research , been too busy ……
so who runs what and why ?? looking for feedback on the both as just gps units ??
price range is around the 2-2.5 k mark ?
what peoples thoughs on either ? have you got either and what are the differences for the gurus to chime in with ??

Shelter Bay, Steep Point
Submitted by Wrighty4one9er on Mon, 2018-09-03 13:54Gday Guys
Myself and 5 mates are heading to Shelter Bay in Shark Bay from Sept 28th till the 8th
We have 2 boats and looking for any advice on Trolling for Macks and Getting bigger Snapper? is it warm enough?
Last time we did well with catching plenty of Blue line Empror and Baldies in the shallows but all the Pinkies were tiny
Also if anyone is in the area around that time if there keen to catch up for a beer?

Deep drop challenge
Submitted by Outwide on Sun, 2018-09-02 19:17So Saturday we had a challenge to crack some Harpuka considering the weather. Took off and grabed some fresh bait firstup at 5am. Headed out to 300's and as soon as we started sounding around we had some good ground. Sounder lit up with blue streaks 5m of the bottom. We were hopeful. First drop on my new rod and bang less than 5 secs and i was on. Snap!!!!!!! line broke. Very unhappy person to say the least. Next turn around reriggen dropped down two rods and bang both on. Snap again for me. 600m of line gone. veryunimpressed, My mate locked on and started the long haul. Half way up his rod got even heavier. Up come a nice Harpuka wrapped in my loely brand new red line. OMG star handline pulling in the line and 100m off the back is a big fish floating. Managed to haul in the Grey bandand reclaim my first drop fish. It was going to be a good day.Ended up over the next few hours Harpuka and a small grey band. All up 90L of juice and a boat load of good quality fish. Hope its not just our lucky first. Biggest Harp went 7kg GB 8KG. Tatsed great and the Best Farthers day presents to My dads too

Where are the fat whiting at
Submitted by br3nno on Sun, 2018-09-02 08:29About 5 years I would drift in 20-30m of water 5km off mindarie and pull one up every drop. Now im struggling to find them.
Is Swanbourne still producing?
Would appreciate any ball park areas (eg 10m depth off Scarborough)
Also, is burley ever a good idea for Whiting? Or are you asking for wrasse and other undesirables.

Pingers
Submitted by Nelly on Sat, 2018-09-01 18:28Had a good day on the water today,Unfortunely was pinged twice, early in the day a black barcrusher named Back in Black came out of nowhere and dropped in on my drift(under50m),sounded around and quickly left(after a few choice words)
Later in the day a older fibreglass boat did something similar.
Its a big ocean out there especially when your 30km+ out.
I understand i dont own the ocean and guys can have the sames marks.
There have been times i have got to a spot and found someone on it and have given it a wide berth and gone to the next spot as the its a big ocean.

Afternoon Pinks
Submitted by Ryan C on Fri, 2018-08-31 21:05took my 11yr old son Jesse out off Hillarys this afternoon for a quick fish , launched the crusher at 12pm and headed to a spot in 12m down the coast a bit , got the burley trail going and the pinks came on hard , my son got 4 smallish ones on a paternoster and 1/2 mulies then one of my floaters went off with a nice 80cm model which went into the icebox , the young fella then scored a 66cm fish on his green gomoku rod which we kept for his dinner. I then had a double hookup with a pair of 70 - 75cm fish that were both released and we pulled anchor and headed in happy. Great afternoon with my boy.

Distribution of Greyband Cods in WA?
Submitted by Glenn Moore on Mon, 2018-08-27 09:27Hi members,
I'm trying to gather some info on the distribution of Greyband/Eightbar Cod in WA
So far I have confirmed specimens (based on photo or a sample) from mid-Pilbara to Albany and from depths 105 to 470m
Does anyone have any records (preferably with an image) from outside this distribution or depth range in WA? Happy to communicate by email or PM if you prefer.
Thanks in advance, Glenn
