Hi guys, just after some info on which of the 2 transducers (p66 or HST- DFSBL) would be better suited to fishing between 15m and 50m? Both are similar in price, I currently have a totalscan transducer and it is pretty average in the deeper stuff. Any screenshots would also be a great help. Head unit is Elite 9 ti. Cheers

I was playing around with old sonar logs last night and thought someone might be interested in these screencaps. They come from a day in Cockburn Sound, shallow water testing my transducer placement and fine tuning a Gen3 HDS.

Sonar shots are with the most basic 83/200 kHz Transducer (mounted by previous owner on the port side!). Downscan images are the same spot & same time but with StructureScan3D transducer 800kHz I mounted on the starboard side.

Recently scored a TM260 airmar transducer and have been reading a fair bit online about them and have a fair idea of what I want to do but wouldn't mind a bit of real world confirmation of what works and what doesn't. 

I've got a 6.7m Ali boat, am keen to try a bit of deep drop when the occasion allows but will be doing the bulk of my fishing in bunbury 25-35m. Have ready access to south coast so will definitely be taking advantage of TM's capabilities. 

My current set up is two lowrance hds screens with the standard 12degree 200hz, 600w trannie as well as structure sidescan LSS2. This has been alright so far but haven't had enough flat water days to really put the sidescan through its paces since it's been installed.

So I am running out of space for transducers of the back and am just wondering;

Does the narrow cone angle of TM260 200hz need back up in shallow water (sub 40m) or do people run dual freq with the 50hz to increase coverage under the boat?

Is the sidescan LSS2 worth perservering with, I have seen it give good indication of bottom structure but does 1kw 50hz trump this due to better all round weather use?

Is it worth getting mounting bracket extension fabricated and keeping all three? This option is really only worth doing if all three can be networked through both HDS units and structure scan module. Not sure if this is possible and would appreciate anybody else's thoughts or past experience.

I am looking at getting a new sounder and trasducer. I would like to bottom fish in the 100-400m mark and be able to spot pelagics swimming mid water as well. Not too sure

 Hi All, I have a older Caribbean Reef Runner and have fitted a new hook 9 lowrance sounder with the standard blue 83/200 transducer. 

I have had Lowrance help advise and still struggle to get reasonable definition and separation in 60m and pretty much no signal above 12knots, not even a reliable depth. 

If anyone had a reef runner with a good transducer set up would be keen for a couple of photos or suggestions?

I have a Lowrance HDS 5X sounder and have two issues I cant seem to resolve. .

Originally I had a Lowrance X107CDF 50/200Mhz unit of which I dropped the screen and was provided a replacement model/ screen HDS5x.

At the same time I purchased the paddle wheel as I was advised it was compatable.
Currently the paddle wheel doesnt work at all and the temp sensor shows around 52-53 C.
The transducer type is HST DF SBL 50/200.

 My Ti 7 loses it's depth reading at speeds higher than 8-10 knots? The boat/sounder is brand new sound I call dealer or is it as simple as lowering the transducer? TIA

Hi, just wondering if any of you have come across this issue or anything similar. Running a gen1 HDS 8 and gen2 HDS 7 connected with Ethernet cables via structure scan module. With navionics gold card installed in the 7, when looking at chart page on the 8, can only see base map that comes standard with unit, i.e. no chart data that shows on the 7. HDS 8 chart options has navionics selected as map source but it appears as though the data from card in 7 doesn't transfer. My question is if this is possible to set up so the Navionics data transfer between units. Two units do communicate ok as can plot a WPT on one and it shows on the other. Having to buy another card to view on your second screen when you've already purchased one at $400 seems a bit rich. Any ideas, a quick site search didnt put me onto anything? Cheers

 I have got a LMS 332 that died. If some one that fixes these wants it for parts they can have it for free. The keyboard and screen would be usable.

I see there is a software update for this model available from Lowrance, with mapping features etc. Are you able to download this update, via wifi, using your phone as a hotspot?? Failing that, I will just upload the update to a card and install it that way, but just doing it straight from my phone would be very cool....

Any idea if it's possible? Mr Google not helpful so far....

Can i turn on the contour lines of the mapping? Or do i need a gold card or similar?

I thats the case it seems a bit odd as my free navionics appp has them turned on as standard and is much better.

This is a stupid question, but been reading up on doing a software update on my Lowrance Elite 5. The instructions speak of putting the software file onto a micro SD card...

Is the card they're talking about the navionics MicroSD card that's already in the sounder? From memory when I installed it, the navionics card was just a SanDisk microSD card...

So is there free space on that card or do I need my own separate card?

This might save me a lot of google leg work so hoping you maybe able to help me. Are you able to enter coordinates on your computer and then sync straight to your card, will save a lot of time it takes with inputting direct into the plotter.

 Wondering if anyone has used Gen 1 HDS sounder and the Gen 3. Is there any better performance as a sounder or are they justeasier to use.

I've recently bought a 2nd hand boat that came with a Lowrance HDS 7 Gen 1 sounder. After watching some videos on youtube, I've double checked the settings and found that the transducer type has not been setup. There is no tag on the transducer to tell me what it is. The only info I've got is that the HDS 7 is a Gen1 and on the receipt handed over to me it says 50/200 Khz.

I've temporarily set the transducer type to Generic 50/200 khz but wondering if this is correct? 

 Just wondering if anyone creates their own bathymetric charts, and if so, what software you use and if the charts are any good?

I have used insight genesis a few times, but not overly impressed.

I upgraded from an Elite 4 about three years ago, to an Elite 5 which was replaced twice on warranty, ending up with an Elite 5 CHIRP. Two years later and with only a few trips under its belt, it has given up the ghost, won't boot up, soft or hard reset doesn't work. The boot up screen flashes up for a couple of seconds and then nothing. 

It has it's own wiring direct to the battery via a Blue Seas switch panel, in a tinny so it's exposed to the spray and splashes. I never had a problem with the little black and white Humminbird unit I had prior to updating - until the head unit fell off the top shelf on to concrete !

Very pissed off as I have some time off to go fishing the next couple of days and suddenly have no sounder   The first Elite 5 let me down when I was in the NT at the start of billfish season, also when I had some time off to go fishing. That was sorted out under warranty but that it took two months die to a stocktake that led to my claim being lost for six weeks. 

Just having a vent before I start thinking about what to replace it with. I'm not sure if there's any warranty left. 

 Got an HDS 5 gen 1 GPS today and put my navionics card in it but it only shows depths and contours out to what ever safety depth the unit is set for. The maximum safety depth is 20m so anything deeper then that does not show. Any ideas [and yes I have updated the software]?

Does anyone have a hook 5 for there chart plotter do you like it 

 Just put a p66 on my young blokes boat with a gen 1 HDS but in the transducer selection list there is no option for a p66. Anybody got any ideas ?

 My old neighbour had his Lowrance X-15 die after decades of service. GPS unit died. Marks were still intact, apparently, not many saved over the years. Downloaded to his old-style SD card. Date showed as 1.1.2000, so I guess it was a Y2K child . Format was .USR, v2.0. Anyway, I transferred it to a microSD, and plugged it into my Elite 7 CHIRP, uploaded, and the marks showed up. So, I think, all good. File size was very small, 6kb, but he doesn't keep that many marks.
So he turns up with a new Elite-7 TI, and asks me to help him set it up. I find the unit very nice to use, and get to file upload. Select the appropriate file, hit OK,starts up, then tell me it cannot upload because it contains more than the allowed number of icons. Allowed max number is 5000,and it tells me I am trying to upload over 30, 000. No saved track. The TI are now touch screen, using, perhaps, older HDs architercture? Were there any issues of mark interchange between Elites and HDS?
 

 Has anyone had problems and experience fault finding a BR24 radar unit??

Mine stopped working, checked the cables and it started up again. 

I installed a point 1 gps then it stopped again, now after reset it will find the radar so the ' No radar " message now changes to "no Scanner" 

Web search suggests to check power as they are tempramental if there is a sketchy join or point, had a quick look but didn't spot anything.

Final option would be look at a new 3g or 4g unit anyone gone through that line and recommendations and or why?
