Had a crack at installing an Elete 7 in a mates dingy today. Think i would have had a much better time if i hadent left the electrical Box up at two rocks.

I was pretty un-impressed with what was supplied straight from the box. Sounder mounting screws were to small for the mount holes with no washers supplied. Not enough wire crimps supplied and cheapass ones at that. No cable clips at all to secure the transducer cable.

2 trips to bunnings later and it all looks ok. Well the power is on and the transducer picks up my grass pretty good..lol

Will be launching it at two rocks tomorrow to see how the tranny goes.

 So ive just brought a brand new lowrance hds 9 gen 3 and its been fitted. 

i have no idea about this kind of stuff but my mate said i need to buy 2 sd cards.

does anyone know what 2 sd cards i need and where i can buy them from?

Had bad experiences with standard ones in the past.

hi there ive just scored a bargain hds7 gen 2 to network with me 7 touch and been reading a bit about it is it true that I only need the Ethernet cable to be able to share the info between the 2 units I was planning on just using one for plotter nd the other sounder I wana be able to mark a spot on the sounder then it transfers straight to the other unit I d have a nmea 2k already set up fro the 7 touch for me sonic hub music so can easily get it to the other unit if need. one thing I haven't been ale to find is ther any settings I need to change as I did see network settings but not sure wat to change them to any help be great thanks chris

when I was out yesterday my lowrance elite 5 kept going out on shallow water, I was out in 30 m of water but half a dozen times it just went to shallow water and alarm came on  to say so, I tried restarting every time but it would still come up as shallow water any thoughts as to why or what I should be looking at doing unit is 3 years old so out of warranty.

Hey everyone just wondering if anyone could help me out with figuring out whats actually happening on my sounder so i can start trusting what im seeing and using it to hunt fish. 

Ive attached a few pictures the first and second picture is what i reckon is a school of bait fish one on a slow drift over and the other moving slowly across it. anyone with a bit of knowledge want to calrify this and let us know what they think is happening in the other pictures, also mabye what to look for

The sounder is a lowrance Hds 5 older gen and was in the Swan River off some cliffs near freshwater bay. 

Also if i am looking at nothing ha ha and my setting are off....

 what are peoples thoughts on the 3d structurescan coming out soon on lowrance? has anyone used or seen this on other brands and what are their thoughts on it?

i bought a TM260 for my hds but just wondering if anyone knows much about how to set these up properly, It does the job but I'm not picking up distinct arches or anything like that, pretty sure it's mounted correct but just the settings on the unit might not be ideal. If anyone could help that would be great and if it's too complicated to explain on here but your positive you know how to set it up and can explain In person then I'll take you out for a free trip to say thanks! 

 I'm looking at getting asounder/plotter for myt tinnie, probably a lowrance Elite 5, does anyone know where i could find one for the best possible price? Cheers

just chasing a bit of advice. i bought a second hand sounder and im having a few issues with the cmaps card its a Navman 8084 as far as im aware you just push it into the slot click it into place and it should work right? but it doesnt?? is there any thing else you need to do in the settings to get it to work?? has any one had a similar issue??

 Just spent a couple of hours out in a mates boat trying to get sonar logging data to use for mapping with the Insight Genesis. He has a HDI-7 Elite (pre-Chirp), model before mine. Removed chart card, inserted a new 16gb micro SD card, used menu option to Start Logging. No options given as to where you are saving it. Message came up after about 20 minutes saying " you have less than 10 minutes left for saving to your hard drive/whatever" So it cannot be saving direct to the card, relying on a small internal memory. Try to save to card, but the only place we can find that option is in Waypoints/routes/Trails. And it only appears to save the actual waypoint or trail you have selected at the time. We kept saving, but each time the .usr file was the same size, as if was not being added to. Does anyone know where you can access the logged sonar data, and for that matter, all your saved data? Did a save, and it was showing user data (.usr) as a 128kb file size. Surely he has more than that, he has about 6 months worth of track on there. The manual is fairly useless, IMO, written by someone who either a) didn't give a rats arse, or b) makes a lot of assumptions about users' pre-knowledge of their equipment. Nothing better available online either.

Any ideas?

 Can anyone tell me if it is possible to have the Trail NOT come in every time you switch the unit on. Find it a bit annoying having to go into the menu to delete the unwanted  trail every time, it seems to be the default setting and can't find where to change the preference .

 Hello all,

Camped on the beach at sunny Ningaloo. At least it is sunny now Bought a new HDI 7 chirp before I left and did a basic setup, working fine.  It is mounted near my old Sitex and its external aerial which didnt appear to bother it. Probably ran for about 3 hours before I came up here. Day one, working fine, then after about an hour, signal lost. Hour or two later the sitex starts misbehaving as well. Sitex was coming and going, Lowrance refused to fix at all. Next day turned them both on and they worked perfectly up until they were shut off an hour later when the boat came out due to bad weather. Yesterday, neither worked at all. Today neither worked  until the Sitex came on after about three hours and kept fixing until shut down, albeit with a rather poor quality fix. Could the proximity of the external aerial be giving hte lowrances internal aerial grief? Turn the Sitex off and the  Lowrance still won't fix. Or do I have a dud HDI 7 and coincidentally the Sitex is having problems? Asked another bloke and he said he was also having problems, no-one else on the radio seems to want to comment. Tried a reset, but don't have the manual with me, don't think it was a full sytem reset.

 Gents, I am tossing up which sounder to get for my 5m tinny. I won't be going very deep, just around Cockburn sound, garden island etc with the occasional trip out to the 5 fathom 

So was going to get a HDS5 with navionics maps, but now I see I can get an elite chirp 7 with maps for only a little more. I like the idea of the larger screen, so how do they compare? Am I losing much technology or features by going with the chirp 7?

Anyone using the 5 and find the screen size an issue? And is there any sort of base map if I don't get a map card?

also I was just going to get the smaller transducer due to the limited depth I will use it at. Is less depth range the only downside to the 83/200 transducer or does it effect performance in shallower water too?

Have been thinking about getting a Lowrance specifically for its Trackback feature which I think would be priceless when covering ground wide of perth metro. Does anyone use it for this and is it useful and accurate?

Hey Guys Im having trouble getting a clear picture on my HDS10 when underway, it provides a good picture up to about 3 knots, then the screen fills with clutter from top to bottom! It would often lose bottom alltogether at planing speeds in deeper water, >25metres.

To try fix the problem I recently swapped from a 200/83khz tranny to an Airmar P66, at the same time I moved it to the Starboard side of the engine, (swapped locations with the structue scan tranny)  I also downloaded the latest software update. Correct Transducer has been selected in installation menu. 

I've only done 1 water test but the problem is the same over about 4 knots clutter from top to bottom, what am I doing wrong?

 I've read all sorts about strakes, not being too close to propellor radius etc, well its about 3" from prop radius, and its on the "inside" of a strake that terminates half way down the length of the hull by ~4inches.   

Can anyone else with a HDS and a transom mount tranny comment on the units performance whilst underway?

***Edit/Update*** Sounder shot is after dropping tranny down 5-6mm and is at 22 knots, previously would be clutter from top to bottom, annd often lose bottom altogether. 

 Picked up a 6kg and 9kg dhu from this yesterday out from busso.

Just interested if anyone has swapped a standard lowrance 200/50hz transducer for an Airmar P66 and what if any difference it has made?

I currently have 3 transducers on the transom and space is at a premium, the lowrance tranny is not in the optimum spot I have moved it around as much as I can but its just a bit too far from the keel plus I have a fairly flat hull which makes for more turbulance so I was wondering if a P66 with a bigger surface area may give me a better read at speed 15knots+

went for a quick fish today and was messing around with my sounder settings. Its a newish unit so just trying to learn how to read what things are. i have put it back to factory settings now as i got carried away and things ended up looking pretty bad. its a lowance elite 5 if that helps. i took these two shots and was wondering if anybody can tell me what it actually means please. we were only getting the usual wrasse at the time of these shots.

 I only have a 5 inch sounder and a 7 inch GPS on my boat so I am always looking around to see what comes up. Was comparing prices of used HSD10 Gen 2s (not the touch version) when I saw BCF has them for $1749 which is cheaper than some used ones on ebay. I know it doesn't come with maps or a transducer (I have both already) but I wonder if I am missing something?

 Hi guys, just got a new lowarance hds 7 sounder/GPS just over a month ago but am having some errors with it regarding reading the bottom, the sounder constantly cuts out and freezes on ground from over a km ago which we have already pass and does not read anymore including  what we are currently above and also when we are reading the ground below the image is not coming up well with it being hard to see the structure and ground

I have just got my new (used) boat and has a lowrance HDS12 I am trying to get my waypoints from my old Hummingbird pulled the chips out and inserted into HSD12 but it is still showing the previous owners(new boats) way points.
Can I keep his waypoints and add mine to the HDS12 or how do I add my spots to the HDS12 system?

 I have hds8 backup unit an I been playing a bit with it as I allways use my furuno .   I reset it an now the screen is moving up an down hard to explain  trying to get it set at the bottom of screen   I no sounds weird but any help would be good  thanks 

 has anyone got or used a camera hooked up to their lowrance hds touch unit? If so which type and was it any good?
