I've had to go through the pain of trying to shift marks from one format to another,or even from an earlier plotter to a later one of the same make ,quite a few times over the years.Or got caught in a complete dead end like the Sitex I bought less than a decade ago.

The old bloke up the road came to see me the other day, asking if I had a spare GPS aerial, as the external on his 90's Lowrance X-15 had died. Couldn't help him as I had passed all mine on to good homes over the years. He was becoming resigned to getting a new unit, wanted to know if his marks would move over. I said I thought Lowrance had stuck with one format, wasn't sure,so he gave me his memory card. Had a tiny Data.USR file, , on an SD (MMC) card, apparently last updated 1/1/2000.  I went into the menu, found file transfer,did it to a new file name,still showing last updated 1/1/2000. then it dawned on me that the card was probably so old that it was suffering from the Y2K affliction! Transferred them to a micro SD. Anyway, I backed up my Elite-7, stuck his card in, downloaded, and there were his marks, over the top of mine. I mean, really over the top of some of mine, because I gave them to him when I was crayfishing! I was a bit surprised that there were no "version" issues, and that it didn't wipe my(backed-up) marks when it loaded, but there you go.

Stick with Lowrance and your marks are future-proofed.

I'm cashing some information on the lowrance elite ti 7 was wondering if anyone has one set up or used one. I'm after something user friendly and gps so I thought this looks the goods. I'm also wondering how the total scan transducer goes. I will be fishing up to 40m so I don't need anything huge. The read ups sound good but it's mostly for bass fishing so want to know how it will go in WA waters. If anyone has any info please let me know as I'm starting to get into a spin about this new sounder.

mine looses the sounder function from time to time.the screen won't show depth and is blank if I restore defaults it all starts working aagain any thoughts

I took the tinnie out for a run today (it's been laid up for over a year!) Anyway I went to power up the sounder/GPS and it turned on, then showed the start up screen (blue screen with Lowrance in the centre) it then promptly shut down (black screen so assume it was off). It is a Lowrance Elite 4, I've never had a problem with it to date. Has anyone else had the same problem, any solutions that you can offer?

 Well I took the boat out to start the run in for the new engine today and was playing around with the new sounder while doing so. I've done a few sonar logs along with a structure scan log of James service reef and I can't seem to view on my pc? I've tried downloading lowrance sonar log but it just takes me to a page where you have to click on your device and nothing happens! What programs are you using to view logs or screen shots on your pc? Files are saved as a sl3 file.

 Anyone running navionics  platnim on their hds gen3? I need to get a card so just wondering if it's worth spending the extra $100 ish to go from gold to platnim... or even better if anyone has a gold or platnim card they want to get rid of.

I was hoping someone might be able to help... I have a hds gen 2 that I'm using as a chart plotter and the last two trips the maps seem to lose the contour line and features. Bit hairy out of hillarys but I was able to folloe past tracks. All the points I have put in remain. I have a gold maps I think. There is still some general depths remaining, displayed as different colours.

When I go and hit default factory reset they come up again but after while it reverts back to them not being there. But lose all sounder settings.

From the unit I currently run a nmea back bone to an electric motor, a LSS2 structure scan and the deep 50/200 transducer.

Any ideas?

  These are shots taken on our recent Ningaloo trip, red-hot Spangled bite, big fish smashing floaters half way to the bottom. The HST-DFSBL xducer really transforms this sounder.

 hey i just installed a lowrance elite 7 , i was out today squidding and picked up a few items come up , only in shallow water but would anyone be able to tell me if they are good size fish or what they are if fish at all?
 

Having some problems with my structure scan LSS2 I purchased on Friday and installed on Sat and tried out on Sun. Main issue nothing seems to come up on sidescan, when I go to down scan it just looks like a different pallet sonar screen. I have HDS 12Gen2 and plugged it straight into the back. Don't seem to get anything on side scan... all I get is downscan and I'm not sure if it is what it is supposed to look like. I tried it in depths for 10m to 40m whist drifting. Thought they were a simple plug and play option.

 Hi all, Iv got a HDS Gen 2 T 9 and a 7 networked together with a structure scan unit attached but having trouble see anything on the screen with the down or side scan, normal sonar works fine

I'v played with the contrast and toggled between the 455 and 800 Khz. I had it for 6 months now and keep playing with it with no joy.

In shallow water you can kind of see some think on the screen but in 20m and above nothing and we are fishing in 60m up to 100m some times.

Any suggestion or help would be great 

 Got Hds 12 gen2 woth 600w 50/200khz Going deeper now, like 120m and picks up bottom well but hard to see fish anyone got any suggestions on what setting i.e 50 khz or 200 khz. Things to tune the fish?

 This is my HDI -7 with the background set to Blue Fishreveal. Different to just the blue background available in the selection. Gives a rather Furuno-like picture, sample shown is with 58% of colour intensity selected. Not a good picture to show the tails, as it is zoomed x4 and auto-depth, but they are quite good. They show well on x2 zoom. Fish shown produced several jew. The little zig zag up the top is probably my jig.  Transducer is a 50/200 HST-DFSBL.

 Have been running this unit as a combo for a while now while I save for an upgrade.

Im happy enough with the sounder, being able to mark individual fish in 50m but the gps is rubbish,

not sure if it the prossesor of the unit or it needs an external Aerial but the load time when zooming and moving the cursor is making it almost un usable. I was planing on keeping the elite as a dedicated gps and get a furuno sounder

now I'm not too sure. I just updated the software and had a play in the driveway and made no difference.

has anyone had this issue?!

I have recently purchased a HDS-7 Gen 3 and already have an Elite 5 HDI and would like to know if I can interface these two units.

It is my understanding that both units support the nmea 0183 standard however don't have a complete understanding of how this interfacing works.

For example, both units are combos, but I only have one map card - Would the map be "interfaced" between both units? If I used the Lowrance track back feature, would the gps co-ords show up on both units (I guess that depends on the previous question)

I will add that I did contact Lowrance who advised that I could not link both units, however was less than convinced with whom I was talking to.

Any help/advice greatly appreciated.

 Can anyone tell me if I can bring up any of my past trails if I have not manually saved them. Im gonna have a serious look for a lost pot tomorrow and want to retrace my trail from about a month ago.

It seems to only keep my trail from the last outing but im hoping theres an option to view past ones.

I need some help with connecting my mobile phone and tablet to my HDS 9's wireless network please.

The HDS 9 has been switched to server mode. When using the Lowrance Go Free app on both devices, they do not automatically connect to the HDS, nor when I manually enter the HDS's IP address in the app. Interesting though, when I connect the HDS as a client onto my home wifi, the Go Free app works, at least from my phone (the tablet still does not connect).

Now when I go to the Wifi settings menu of both the (android) phone and tablet, I can see the HDS 9 listed as an available, but secured wifi hotspot.  When I try to connect to the HDS hotspot, it asks me for a password- which I have no idea what to enter.  I have tried using the HDS 9's IP address, but get a message on the phone and tablet that "an authentication error has occurred".  I must mention that I have not created any password requests or such during the initial setup of the HDS 9.

To be honest, these features are not essential to me, but I'd like to see the unit work as advertised, and neither the installation nor the user manual have been of much help.

What am I doing wrong please?

Mean anything? Some sort of fish?

Trying to stop the rooster tail on my lss2 transducer and have come up with 2 options. The water is coming up trhough the gap on the bracket.

1st is to get a shield made up to suit which will require drilling more holes in the transom.

2nd is to order a made to suit transducer sheild as in the pic. Only place i can find is in the states and is about $150 delivered. Anyone seen or used this type of bracket and are they any good and any where is aus hat might stock them.

 I have a HDI-7 Elite CHIRP. It is ok for what it is, which is basic. As an ex-commercial user, I've certainly used a lot more capable sounders.  It came with the 83/200/455/800 xducer. I have since fitted a HST-DFSBL 50/200 which improves matters, but I lose the 455/800 downscan function.  The sounder on my last pleasureboat was an old FCV-600L, which was more than capable.  The HDI has no bottom lock and no"Shift"--this is what Furuno calls the ability to select any part of the water column regardless of range. I mostly used the 5 fathom range and shifted to suit, regardless of depth, with bottom lock as well. It appears that the HDS 7 (and 9?) have the ability to set custom upper and lower limits, which is similar to Shift in function. HDI only has a limited Zoom. 

Can anyone who has either a HDS 7 or 9 tell me if the custom upper and lower limits can be extended down so you are  displaying the third repeat echo, without having the first or second showing? That is to say, can you leave the area of the water column between bottom and surface, and start looking at just the bottom consistency as indicated by the third echo? eg, in 20 metres, you would select upper and lower between about 50 metres and 70 metres? I'd like to just use the HDI-7 as a plotter, and use the HDS, if it supports this function, as my sounder. Why don't I just buy a s/h FCV-585 or similar? Tempting, but if I stay with Lowrance combos, I could  keep backing up marks to the HDS and still have full plotter function if the HDI fails at an inopportune time. I like redundancy of electronics at sea, old habits die hard  And having one dedicated to sounding and one to plotting removes that irritation of having to select pages to get the context menu. I find this a massive PITA.

Hi, I have a hds9gen2 and can't work out how to get the distance to destination (DTD) to show on the screen, have searched the manual and can't find instructions.

I posted the same question about a hds8 about 12 months ago but can't find that in the search bar.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Being exposed to the elements and use has put an end to the plug from the power/transducer cord on my lowarance Elite 5 sounder/gps unit. I was curious to know if anyone else has had a similar issue, and knows where I can purchase a plug from. The transducer and its associate cord are in great condition. I have spoken to two local dealers to mandurah and they each tried to sell me the $150 cord with the transducer attached. What makes me think that there should be plugs availiable, is that they're online, but for the older models. 

Any help on purchasing, or ideas to fix it would be greatly appreciated

The second bracket for my elite 5 has crapped itself and can no longer hold the screen in place (falls forward). Any one else experienced this issue?? 

 Im currently running a HDS 10 gen1 with lss1 and radar with a fuel line sensor as well. 

Dilema is i wish to update to a newer touch screen to speed up the user interface. 

Option 1 is get a 7 or 9 inch gen 3 and network it. Im not exactly sure how this will work.

IE if i get a 7 with 1 port will it run everything i currently have and the gen 1 will slave to it? or do i need a 9 with more ports? 

If the gen 1 became basically a extra screen then it would be great as it works fine for everything. 

Option 2 remove the gen 1 and replace it with a gen 3 12 inch. 

Problem- selling the gen 1 to assist financing the gen 3 and then will the 12 inch simply integrate with everything inplace?

I see option 1 will have the benifit of split screens giving more available information in a easy to read format, 

But option 2 will probably be the simpler if not more costly option. With the downside that I will have only 1 screen

So has anyone integrated a network with a gen 3 and 1? 

How did it work and are you happy with it?
