Howdy All

Hi Guys (and ladies),

I have been watching this site for a while and love some of the reports and photo's! So I thought I'd get around to making my virgin post.  Im from Albany but am currently living in Nedlands for Uni and Hockey...I love my land based fishing off the southern stones, breaming and of course, the North (who doesn't?)...

Here's a photo to get started (can't figure out how to post multiples??)! Looking forward to contributing!

Fishing New Regulations

Friends just sent methis email......lets hope it is good news after 4.00pm today

I am pleased to advsie that at 4PM today the ALP will announce in the Legislative Assembly that they are moving to disallow the regulations. That will put pressure on the National Party to show that they are independent!

There will be some coverage of the developments on the news tonight and in The West tomorrow. Including the www.fishingtaxgrab.com booth at the Perth Boat Show today where many letters are being signed.

We need to keep pressure on the Liberals and Nationals with letters to those Members.

Regards

Neil Bartholomaeus

dirkhartog baldy

1 of many on a perfect trip to steep point .just got back from what i can say is my best trip to the point to date we had perfect wheather every day and the fish were hungry

spent most days trolling up to a spot i found about 5 kms up the west side of dirk hartog the lures were never in the water for more than a  few seconds and you were on to either shark macks northern blues or  YFT once we had enough of them which is hard to do we would hit the bottom , wham baldy central 7 kilos was the biggest for the week (which went to josh with his 68 cm bus) with the average being 5 kilos my biggest was 65cm at 6.5 kgs

it was hard to get past the baldys but every now and then we would hit the snapper  and i was happy to get my pb snapper of 67 cm there was plenty of red troat and spangles aswell

but a think the highlight of the trip would have to be the 100 odd humpback (i think) whales that played for hours every day just meters from the boat at one stage we would have had 15 around the boat and you could even hear the whales trough the hull of the boat

definatly going to be hard to beat

Saturday fishing

Well it has been a very long time since I have put tub in and had a bottom bash of Perth waters. April 2007 to be exact so with the good weather forecast and a day off on a weekend for once I put it to the old man to see if he was keen to have a bash.

Last time with the old man we went out 20mile did two drifts, bagged out on dhuies each and then looked at each other, laughed and turned for home. No point continuing fishing when you have your limit on dhuies I reakon. So the pressure was on and dad let me know that he expected dhuies...

Anyway I decided to hunt for new ground first up and found a nice lump in 40m with fish showing, a couple of mock drifts to get the current and wind drift sorted and then we went right over the top to see the old mans rod load up and start taking line. 5 minutes later and this lovely little guy of 12kg surfaced.

After this came up we really didnt care what we caught so went exploring some more. Found some more ground and missed some good bites and then hit the gold. First drift and the old man missed a nice hit of what was expected to be a baldie as this spot gets big numbers of them while up came this nice dhu for me.

Next drift was to be our last as we had enough fish and once again they were on as soon as the bait hit the bottom, I got another dhu of about 65cm and the old man snuck two drops in and was rewarded with a baldie and a breaksea. So after that we left them well and truly on fire which is a good feeling.

All up the weather actually wasnt the best and there was a screaming current running from the north but we had a great time and was a good trip out.

Pinks on plastic

Hi All,

Headed out yesterday to the ffb and after drifting around for half a day with only a good King George to show we decided a bit of a change of tactics was in order so we anchored and started to burley. After about half an hour or so the fishing started to pick up with some nice big skippy and breaksea coming on board. I decided to whack a Squidgy Slick rig on the 6kilo outfit and first cast into the burley trail it was smashed by a good fish and after two smoking runs and heaps of headshaking an nice pink came to the boat. After that i caught another couple and got beaten by some bigger ones that had no interest in coming to the boat.Even my mate who usually just bottom bounces was swiftly asking me to set him up with a soft plastic and it wasnt long before he too got into a couple.

Awesome fun to finally get some metro pinky action..here are some pics.

Hook up.

Nice hair..i mean snapper..lol

cheers,

chris

couple of PB's

Headed out last sunday with my girlfriend and brocko for a fish around S/W bank bit of a slow day with only four keepers but was great to see my girlfrind Darlene land a nice 5-6 kilo duhie a new PB for her. She had caught a few smaller just sized duhies before but certainly knew about it when she hooked onto this one fought it well on her daiwa saltist and when the duhie hit the surface it was high fives all round. Rest of the morning was slow with only a small shark landed. Was freezing till about 1030 until the cold easterly stopped blowing then it was like a pond no wind no drift just a bit of swell. Decided to go to a spot we'd got a baldchin driftbaiting a few months ago. I put on the driftbait rig and Darlene and Brock continued with the bottom rig. Brok got a niced sized snapper then few minutes later I had some intrest on the drift bait I put the reel in free spool with my thumb on the spool so I could give it some line then bang I was on To a big one. I was struggling to thumb the spool while I put the daiwa into gear then it was on what a fight i could feel it powering down trying to get to the bottom whith some big head shakes I called it for a sambo at the start but after a few big runs it slowed down heaps and i called it for a big duhie as it had given up and apart from a slight pull it felt more like the heavy weight of a duhie. When we saw colour I was a tiny bit dissapointed it wasnt my 10kg+ duhie but when it hit the surface i was over the moon about how big this snapper was it meausered 89cm and weighed 8-9 kg on my dodgy scales. Had a few more drifts and the drift baiting was getting more attention than the  bottom rigs but unfortunattely couldnt set the hooks on the other big runs I had. I had one run were I had full weight of the fish for a few turns of the handle and then the fish must of spat it wound it in and the scalie was pretty much untouched was deefinately a fish as there were huge head shakes but just couldnt set the hooks I thought it might of been a duhie sucking the bait. Dropped it back down got aNother hit same again fought with it for a while and then the hooks came free. Does anyone have any tips for hook types or techniques off setting  the hooks on a fish while driftbaiting. Looking at getting out there Saturday to try more drift baiting much more effective way of hookig the big ones. Darlene is a bit pissed off she cant come Saturday but I told her if she really wants to go I will have to take her out sunday DAMM FISHING TWO DAYS IN A ROW

Good Cobia From Lady Joyce Friday the 17th

Went for a run out to the Lady Joyce today with a mate from Busso in his boat.Due to a mix up of points we had to ring home for the correct GPS points. Finally anchored up and all we were catching were undersize yellow fin bream.pinkies, spanglies, blackies and tailor with a couple of pike thrown in.
Nothing changed for a couple of hours with a steady stream of fish being released untill Pete's line took off at 200kph for about 100+metres in one run. After 15 minutes and 3-4 runs later we finally got a good look at it and instead of being a shark like we first thought was a nice cobia.Guessing at the weight we came up with something between 20-22 kg,possibly heavier,a good fish in anyone's book

Stop - snapper time!

I managed to pick up this lovely snapper off the rocks down south on the weekend.  We bagged 4 off the rocks with the biggest going 48cm.  I also managed to pick one up in the nearby estuary on 2kg gear which went about 43.  I also lost one on the 2kg gear that would have gone over 50cm! Got him to my feet and when I went to pick him up he straightened the tiny snap lock I had on the lure and took off.

These are the first few decent fish I ahve caught in a while so I was pretty stoked with it!!

Support the Changes of the Government like me

Everone whingin about the new rules and cost of goin fishing gives me the absolute shits.

Anyone else out their that supports what they are going to do, i hope so.

Because if you dont becareful you will have a sanctuary zone in the same area for 365 days a year.

No fishing, it wont cost you a cent. That might make you all happy

Another year at coral bay

Well another year at Coral bay is over lots of fish lots of piss and lots of hangovers but a well spent three weeks of my life i think. i met lots of nice people this year locals and people from around WA learnt a thing or two cought a few firsts when it comes to fish e.g rankin cod, gold band job fish thanks to a fellow bunbury couple simon & bonnie nice people got talking to them they told me to go out to the 110m mark drop down and try your luck well me my brother inlaw trent and cousin steve just did that straight on top of a gold bands head i reckon what a awesome day we all ended up with 2 each for the day headed back in and picked up three reds as well cant complain with that day but every day seemed that way if we were not fishing we were swimming at the beach the pool or at oyster bridge or the lagoon. Sharks played havoc with us a bit more than the last couple of years some wew around the 4m mark good fun for a little while but the soon got annoying as we had to move spots. as always i take my partner out for her only fishing trip this year it howled a good 25 kt ne in some decent chop but as usual first drop double header pearl perch and red next drop double header or reds next drop a 5 kg red i think she should come out more often the biggest red this year goes to my father in-law alex was 8kg on the same day as the nice cobia my dad got the nice tomato cod anyway hop you like the photos i am going to put some under water photos up on another post next but until next year tight lines
regards Daniel

Bit of info on aftermarket GPS recievers

Just a bit of info to share. I recently gave a mate my old navman 5500 plotter but didn’t have the aerial for it. He priced one up at $340 that blew me away so I got on USA ebay and found there is a company in the states that make after market amplified receivers for all makes of GPS including the navman $20 so I ordered one thinking $20 isn’t much if doesn’t work. It arrived in 9 days plugged it in and within a 2 mins full screen of satellites. http://www.gilsson.com they are cheaper through ebay than this site

Worth bragging about

Neighbour just sent me this.

Metro Blue-Eye Trevalla & Bass Grouper on jig!!!!

With the weather being very average and the forecast showing a continued trend I looked at yesterdays weather and thought half a chance!

Decided to take deepwater jigs only which i do periodically and no bait. The stormfronts really whipped up the offshore current which I thought might happen but what the heck. It was screeming at a fast rate and very hard to get my favourite jig down there. I rate the Sanme 650g jig which Kasey got me onto a while ago and well worth the money despite not being cheap. We've been having great success together with this jig but yesterday was a stretch for it to find & hold bottom!

With my sounder showing the right fish i kept on persisting, i know if I dropped a bait with a heavy lead we would of got fish but it was an artificial jig day only. After persisting I got a hook-up, it felt like a descent Blue eye and I wasn't disappointed.

Big Jhuie

Hey did anyone see the massive juhie in the sunday times a while ago yeah that was me 18 kilosCoolTongue out

First salmon (and fish over 20cm haha)

Haha well spent day down the flood gates catching leather jackets and a few small king george whitings when i got a message from a girl aksing me to come down for a fish at the cut in bunbury, i went down and well only had a cheap jarvis walker combo in the car at the time chucked an unweighted mulie on and thought im probbably not going to get anything id just lit up a smoke when bam my line took off and i saw the salmon flip out of the air, tightened the drag and fought hard for about 5 minutes where i brought it up to the rocks had just got it up and the line snapped luckily i managed to dive on the bastard haha, managed to nab another one ten minutes later a bit smaller but it also broke off as i was lifting it out of the water that bugger got away with a new lip attachment (glad to learn the hooks disolve in 24 hours) anyway due to my shitty photo skills cant see the measurement but its 74cm there ( was 65cm before i bled it) anyway im real happy about my first salmon haha

Cooooda of a life time

had some mates up from perth the last week which was good, tryed a few more fishings techiques. unfortunatly with the wind cranking this week we headed out just behind the reef for some jigging. managed a heap of corination trout and spangelies and all sorts of weird fish from the reefs. one of the days i was floating a mulie out the back on my 10kg outfit when i took of a second later the massive cooda exploded through the surface and clean into the air. after a awsome fight with alot of acorobats and wraping itself around the ancor rope a few times the beast below was boat side. with my mates clambering tot he front and back of the boat as it was tail grabed and pulled aboard. a few quick snaps and set free.

 first spangly on a jig!

shark bay

Its been a couple weeks since i got back but the fishing stays fresh in the memory! The first week up there coincided with the shark bay fishing fiesta, and with the opening day starting mothers day, i payed more than the entry fee to fish that day thats for sure! we fished out in turtle bay maxing out on our limit of red throat, spangled emperor, baldies, and black snapper. lucky for us one black snapper won us a prize weighing a nice 4.4kgs happy start to the trip! the rest of the trip was much the same, catching our limit of red throats, spanglies, baldies, cod, blacks and bein busted off by a number of rather large spaniards! one trip was decided to head out off the cliffs of steep point, not the most pleasant of days in a boat personally, but i cant complain catching some nice cod, a red emperor(the only one for the trip) and quite a few pinkies and the awesome red/pink/purple sunset was a great way to finish the day... surprisingly there weren't alot of pinkies in turtle bay but a first for myself was catching a number of sand snapper. all in all was a great trip, caught a few squid of the jetty of a night time too for a nice fresh feed.
