fuel cap seals

hey mofos.

I've got 2 x 80L stailess steel cruise tanks, and both the seals/gaskets/o rings on the fuel caps need replacing. i think they are made of cork.

does anyone know where i can get them from, or if i make my own, will the cork gasket sheets from supercheap auto be ok?

cheers

VHF Radio

I am looking at buying a VHF radio for the boat and was wondering what brand to buy, I'm not a fan of GME as I have had so many of their UHF radio's fail, so what brand do you use?

Cheers, Dave.

idling boat motor while fishing... anyone??

Hi guys,

Just wondering how many of you guys leave your boat on and in idle, or in reverse idle to go against a drift, while you are fishing??

I figure with a 60hp 4 stroke it would only use a little bit more fuel, but will also give you the piece of mind that if you have to quickly start the boat that there wont be any issues with getting going...

Anyone have any thoughts on this one? for or against.

Cheers,

Scott

Anyone else have an inflatable boat?

Rightly or wrongly (too late now), I've bought an inflatable boat. It is to be used as a multi-purpose fishing, snorkelling, diving, cruising vessel. I realise it has some short comings when it comes to fishing  (not much interior space, fairly flat bottom, hook/tooth/gaff/spine attracting air-filled pontoons) but I am determined to work around these and make it into a usable fishing vessel

Does anyone else have an inflatable that they use for fishing? At the moment, I'm trying to find ways to set it up for fishing i.e mounting a fish finder, rod holders etc  but not sure about the best way to go about this.

Would also be helpful to know the best way to launch - dolly wheels, folding trailer, carry? Things to watch out for? Ways to avoid punctures?

Respray of 100HP Yamaha 4-stroke

I'm looking at having my 100HP Yamaha 4-stroke outboard on my RIB resprayed. The 'ol girl is in need of a facelift and TLC so a good respray and new stickers to make her look good for summer. I do not want to take the motor off the boat. Any ideas, recommendations of who can do the job for me and how much would one expect to pay for a GOOD job?

Thanks Dave

anchor light

i have one of those short 250mm fold down achor lights mounted on the rocket launchers , the one with the 12 watt bulb.

it's really giving me the $hitz with the bulb falling out of the holder more often than not.

i want a recommendation for a new one that throws a good amount of light for not much current draw (led??) if anyone knows of something worthwhile.

(looked at boatlight site but no anchor lights)

cheers

Fraser 5.2 with 4 stoke 100hp Yamaha

HI Guys

I am looking at buying a fraser 5.2 (1990) with a 100hp Yamaha 4 stoke(2008) with 50 hours on the meter.

Im trying to find out how the Fraser performs with the heavier 4 stoke motor(it weighs about 170 kgs)

Im going to use it to fish and and water- skie, Interested to find out how the boat performs when pulling a slalom skier and if it drags it ass, because of the heavier donk.

Does anybody know someone who has got a similar setup?

Thanks Guys

Recreational Skippers Ticket Recommendations

Hi all,

Have just bought a boat - 3.8m roll-up inflatable and 25hp Tohatsu and need to do my skippers ticket. I've had boats on and off so pretty confident with them but would like to do one of the 'guaranteed pass' type courses just to be sure.

Does anyone have any recommendations for companies or individuals that do the RST course? I'm up near Joondalup, so Hillarys or Mindarie are convenient but would go down to Swan. I'd probably want to do it using the instructors boat as it's a bit of a hassle setting up and taking down the inflatable. Ideas of prices would also be good.

Thanks in advance

cleveland hulls

Have been tinkering with the idea of upgrading the tinny to something with forward controls and screen. This has basically lead to looking at runabouts in the 4.75m + range. A few brands have popped up which i have heard of but i cant find too much information about them on the net, eg Cleveland, From what i gather they are made in QLD? anyone have exerience with these hulls?

Currently have a quintrex and has been awesome but just keeping the options open.

Flushing new yammie

Hi guys, have had me new/second hand coast runner for a month now. Quick question, first time i went to flush it with muffs on it it would not pump water out of the tell tail hole. I then had me mate across the road bring his drum across and filled it and no dramas. When i tried it again the week after it still didnt pump out of there. Now i have a small (4mm) hole just above where the muffs go on i am thinking this is another suction hole?? In the mean time i have been screwing the hose off on the right hand side and connecting a hose fitting into it and it seems to flush the motor with water coming out of all the normal areas.

Is this ok and how the rest of the yammie four storke owners do it or am i doing something wrong. Motor is and 03 yammie four stroke 60 hp.

Any help would be appreciated guys

Intermittent tell tale

Went out on Geographe Bay on Saturday - motor started fine so i let it warm up then zoomed out about a kilometre and a half to find the tell tale pouring out lots of steam but no water. I let the motor cool for half an hour and fired it up - tell tale worked fine for the rest of the day. Got home and the same problem when i tried to flush it in a half 200 litre poly drum. I could feel a stream of warm air coming out of it but no water. Finally got it to pump ok by fitting ear muffs to the inlet IN the drum of water. It has never pumped through just with ear muffs hence the drum. I have searched older posts and can't decide between an air lock or buggered water pump - the water pump will see me marooned as i can't afford any pro repairs for a while. Evinrude Elan 35hp 3 cylinder 2 stroke.

Cheers, Ian

Boat fittings and Pop Rivet rouble

In what I do certainly not an expert with rivets. Once a boat fitting perishes, how to you get the rivets out. I have some ideas but dont want to injure the structure without some expert ideas.

Anyone heard of a Customline Marine Ultima CC

Just saw one of these on the road, anyone heard of them? I saw one one the road (on a trailer!), Hellow on top, had a mariner 125 two-banger on it, center console with a fibreglass top. Looked like a fairly narrow hull, perhaps they had customised the transom a little.

Just a curiousity question ...

Trailcraft trailers ?

Anyone out there with any info on the trailcraft trailers ?

anything good or bad ?

Can they handle the long drives and gravel roads ?

Bearing/hub configeration ?

cheers

ps. and don't worry, there won't be a trailcraft hull on top of it.......haha.

New Bimini and Clears

Just had some new clears and bimini put on the boat. Came up pretty nicely. No more early morning winter cold water spray to wake us up. Have a few more photos to come of some other bits and pieces we have done (stereo, boatlights).

Any prop experts out there?

Have been offered a cheap spare prop to fit my 2004 Mercury 150 V6 EFI 2 stroke. Have been trying to find info on net but though would post up here. Prop is marked  48 78122 21P.

Any idea will this fit. Currently running a stainless steel vengence prop 48 16314 17P.

overnighting at rotto

just after some information about places to beach anchor at rotto

we've stayed at thompsons bay , but next time i don't want to tie up to the proper moorings

which secluded bays are the top spots (north side obviously) that allow you to beach anchor

cheers

Bimini Fittings

I am sick and tired of the plastic fittings on the Bimini perishing. Does anyone know if you can get these in stainless steel or other more durable item.

With the big trucks travelling along Dampier Hwy I am eternaly replacing the cheap plastic shit and the heat up here makes the plastic brittle.

Cheers

Boat Ventilation..

Ok have a 7meter ali Hard top Wave blazer..  I need some ventilation when moving alone in the cab..  Its not practicle to open the front hatch as this lets spray into the bedding..

Now the side and front glass are all fixed...  Costing in excess of 600 dollars each to convert side glass to slidong windows..  not an option at thisd time..

Was suggested to get a scupper and mount it on the roof to drag air thru the cab..

LED BOAT LIGHTS AND ROCKET LAUNCHER INFO

Hi guys,

I'm wanting to put Led lights in my boat for night fishing and also thinking about putting a rocket launcher on the boat as well, (then if the led spotlights/deck lights) could bolt onto that. I see Brad at west coast marine fabrication in previous post does the rocket launcher work but who could i get to do the change of bimini? and where could i get the Led lights from.

Chartplotter & Sounder Advice

Hey Guys,

After a couple of new units. I have been looking at the Lowrance HDS-5m Plotter and a Lowrance HDS-5x Sounder.

I would prefer 2 seperate units over a combo unit. I have been looking at the FCV620 but there up there and eating into a half decent Plotter if i happened to go that track.

Have a budget of around $1600 for the 2 units.

Any input would be good, any comments on the HDS-5x as a sounder would be valuable aswell.

Cheers,

Sam

how many hours before trading in??

just wondering at what hours or how many years old should you trade your old outboard motor in to get best deal on a new one???

New Rig

Picked myself up a little boat for river use, have set it up with Sounder, rod rack, and all important drink holders. Weighs 60kg, fits in the back of the ute, and with the folding wheels can be launched single handedly pretty much anywhere. Got a 5hp Mariner dirt cheap, had it serviced and it runs like a charm! Cheap boating!!!

Took it out in the Sound last week and got a feed of smaller fry, and broke it's river cherry last night, landing a dozen Bream between 28-38cm! Does about 12-13 knots one up, and is very cheap to run!
