Swimming with a whaleshark at Coral Bay
Submitted by r.gates on Thu, 2012-04-19 21:28Hi all
I've put together this clip of our time swimming with a whaleshark while we were in Coral Bay last week. As mentioned previously, this one was inside the reef so it made it easier to swim with and film...hope you enjoy it.

What Lurks Beneath Fremantle Wharf Part 2 (added extention bait arm)
Submitted by tailor marc on Wed, 2012-04-18 07:05The time had come where we needed to attract the fish. This is just a trial idea and i have already learnt alot just from the 2 days of filming this video. I need to place a bracket on the extension and fix it into a secure position. I will also try different bait , oiler bait and more mushy bait will do the job. Slowly but surley i will get there. Happy as with the results so far. Stay tuned for more vids to come. Open to suggestions for me to try this set up...

Never too old to skurf!
Submitted by r.gates on Mon, 2012-03-19 21:24Hi all
I recently bought a set of water skis and a biscuit as a way to getting more use out of our boat, and the fact that I haven't water skied for 15 years was no reason to not do it again. Getting up on 2 skis was pretty easy, but the deep water single start was proving a bit more difficult, so a friend offered to help me out.
Also, my son and his mates can all surf so skurfing sessions on the Harvey Inlet were proving popular...if they can do it, then so can I....even though it's been over 30 years since I've been on a surfboard. Last Sunday we hit the water and using the wakeboard approach to getting up on a surfboard, I nailed it pretty easily and it works a whole lot easier for me than starting off laying on the board and having to get to your knees and then standing up.
Here's a short clip from Sunday's skurfing session....I had a ball out there, even though I pulled a hammy during the deep water single ski lessons. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYZkQlwuYpQ

Barra jumping in super slow motion
Submitted by scuttlebutt on Sat, 2012-03-17 14:17Been mucking around with a Gopro Hero2 camera lately. Here's some footage of a barra jump slowed down to 1% of original speed.
For those interested, footage was shot at 120 frames per sec, slowed down using Adobe After Effects with the Twixtor plugin.

What Lies Beneath : Fremantle Wharf (Gopro HD Video)
Submitted by tailor marc on Wed, 2012-03-07 23:15Hi Guys this is the first in the series. I have fished fremantle wharf since i was a little tacker. 30yrs plus on average almost once a week no joke. I have allways wonderd "What lies Beneath" Whats the bottom like, what fish are around etc.
Not long ago i bought the gopro HD hero and wasnt happy with the standard housing quality underwater so i bought the eye of mine Flat housing and the difference is amazingly sharp and mint. I tied a sinker to the go pro and lowered it to the bottom. Yes i got good clear footage but the footage wasnt level. It was upside down. I then sat down and designed up a capsule that would hold my gopro level, weighted in the bottom and bought a massive handline spool . Then went to bunnings and bought 30mtrs of clothes line cord ( wire inside insulated outer ).
Spent an hour down eshed filming under the wharf. The bottom wasnt what i expected at all. Massive drop off from the pylons. Few snags. On my videos to come you can see massive silver bream under the leeuwin II during the day. I will post pictures very soon of the capsule i made . Stay tuned for more vids and different locations like Palm beach jetty , Rocko etc. ******
Ps click it to at least 480p **** Enjoy.... http://youtu.be/pRSRVEILtB0

Friday's Dive at Bouvard Reef
Submitted by r.gates on Sun, 2012-01-29 18:51Hi all
Went for a dive last Friday with one of my regular dive buddies. Headed down to the Bouvards and found the visibility was amazing...from the boat we could clearly see the bottom at 12m.
Once in the water, there was some sediment and there was some undercurrent, as you'll see in the movie.
This was filmed with my new Canon IXUS 115HS compact digital inside an Ikelite housing, which replaced the Sea & Sea that I lost a couple of weeks ago. Pretty happy with it so far, still learning to use all the controls while under water.
Still trying to work out how to compile and upload to YouTube...ie, video quality, etc. so any help would be greatly appreciated.
What privacy settings do you guys use...I've left this as 'Public' which is the recommended option, but I don't see too many YouTube clips with the orange banner advising that this is public.
Hope you enjoy it.

My first video uploaded to YouTube
Submitted by r.gates on Wed, 2012-01-18 21:19Hi all
I've finally worked out how to upload a video to YouTube....it's taken awhile but my excuse is that I'm getting old!
Anyway, last Saturday I took some video of the sounder when it lit up with a school of fish....not that I caught any of them, but at least I could see them, or see something down there.
Sorry about the music in the background, I had the radio on but forgot to turn it down while I was filming. If I can work out how to edit the footage and dub in some decent music, I'll do that for next time.
Your comments most welcome.

Old school tuna pole fishing vid
Submitted by Andy Mac on Wed, 2012-01-18 12:04Stumbled on this vid from the old old days. If they had kept to this method of fishing we would probably still have a pretty good tuna fishery.
