Swan River Blood Worms
Submitted by Newby101 on Sun, 2026-03-22 19:34Hi All who love to fish,
I used to dig blood worms with my dad off Harrison Island about 50 years ago. Iv'e checked out the DPIRD rules etc its okay to dig them if you stay within 5m of the shore and fill in the holes/divets that you cause.
2 questions.
1) Does anyone out there grow their own Swan River Blood Worms for their own use.
2) Can anyone tell me roughly where to dog for them.( I tried recently where we used to go near the causeway on Herrison Island and I think the new bridge build may have changed the river bed a bit. I couldn't find any black mud.
Any info would be very much apreciated.
Cheers All

Stayed in a little place called cottage 21. It was a great little place very clean and tidy and both wood heaters already lit apon our arrival. Highly recommend. Got a few trout but no reddies this time. Purchased a few of the local black crabs from Forrest fresh marron for tea both nights was a good break.

After 12 years still miss the fast runs & pools of NE Vic for fly fishing so was hoping the Warren would help!
Submitted by rainbow on Sat, 2021-01-16 13:47Can anyone suggest a stream in the SW that would give me the opportunity to fly fish being that the backcast may be hampered with vegetation on the banks? I am hoping the Warren or somewhere else near Pemby would be okay ?
Swan sesh
Submitted by rob90 on Tue, 2020-02-11 08:12Took the yak out saturday arvo, not to catch but mainly to get away from the kids and sink a couple of beers on the water. Was a slow start but as the trees started to cast shadows over the banks it turned on. They were big and angry and preferred hardbodies. I was looking like a fool with all the big ones hooked dropped at the net, one solid fish hooked in the deeper snags didn't let me get an inch on him as i could feel him rubbing his face on a log till the hardbody was dislodged. Dropped a big dark very high 30s fish at the net and a few other mid 30s. There was lots of angry rats (<30cm) this was the bigger of the landed fish. Decent arvo great weather. Hopefully the stars align and i can get offshore with the yak again soon.

HEGARTY CREEK trout or marron
Submitted by bussogirl on Tue, 2019-10-01 08:28Hi
Just looking for bit of info on HEGARTY CREEK...
We went out all day yesterday trout & redfin fishing, we drove from balingup to nannup along the balingup-nannup road... Pulled in at Wrights Bridge, and a couple more spots.
Has anyone ever caught any redfin, trout or marron in this creek? ( I know it's not marron season just yet)
We flicked lures around all day with absolutely nothing!
We were about 10ks out of balingup along that road fishing
Any info would be great, just dont want to bothergoing back there if its not good for fishing
Thanks

Are worms allowed for trout fishing?
Submitted by br3nno on Wed, 2018-07-25 20:55I understand baits and such arent allowed when fishing(prawns, corn etc) for trout in the warren. What about locally sourced worms?

Pinjarra
Submitted by tadpole on Wed, 2018-06-27 01:44So I've just bought a house in Pinjarra, and after 4 years living out in the goldfields, I'm itching to get back into a bit of fishing. Was wondering how far downriver do the redfin come? Can I get them on the freshwater side of the weir in town? Or am I better off heading towards the Coolup area or further? Will be doing plenty of trips into the Dwellingup forests, but something close to home would be great for a quick arvo bash.

Yak Fishing in Lane Poole District 2017
Submitted by Dave S on Thu, 2017-09-21 12:23G'Day, Wonder what the situation is like these days in the Lane Poole Reserve for throwing in a Yak and checking out the fishing, been years since I have been down there, so would be interested in best access points and any aquatic activity. The area used to show up a few trout and Marron and plenty of Redfin Perch. Many of these areas have deteriorated over recent years with environmental damage by vehicles etc, often making passage of a family car and trailer impossible. Much like Waroona dam which has been virtually empty for a very long time. I have maintained my FW licence continuously as we sometimes nip down to Albany occasionally and other distance placed locations from Perth, plus part of the licence fees do good work in supporting recreational fishing anyway :)
Cheers Dave

Boat fishing in the swan
Submitted by Niko on Sat, 2017-06-03 17:45Hey Guys,
taking the new boat out for its first fish in the swan, took it out for a run to get the feel for it last weekend and really happy with the performance but this will be the first fishing trip.
i've never fished the swan river from boat before so just chasing some advice, did try the search function and google but found very limited info on boat fishing in the swan river?
my plan was to launch at maylands and cruise along the far side bank between ascot and herrison island flicking baits into the snags. but while im out i also wanted to have a play with the sounder, its a Lowrance HDS 7 gen 2 i belive, very nice unit but have no idea how to use it.
is there any structure in the deeper waters of the swan that hold fish that i can cruise around to get a look on the sounder at? happy to cruise all the way down to blackwall reach if need be.
is it actually worth fishing mid river or are all the bream/other species along the banks and jetties?
and not so much the legalities but the common courtesy of fishing mid river, abviously cant anchor in any channels or passages but can i just drop anchor wherever else and have a fish?
all advice is much appreciated and will stop me starting my boating career upsetting other boaters
Niko

Conditions in the River Post-Flooding
Submitted by D22 on Tue, 2017-02-28 08:49Anyone been out chasing bream, etc upstream of around Maylands in the past week or so, since all the fresh has come down after the rain?
If so, any sign of fish?
I was thinking about heading out one day this week, but didn't want to waste my time if it's still too murky.
Cheers

Spots in the Canning for western minnows?
Submitted by pseudechisbutleri on Wed, 2017-01-11 07:58I'm feeling a bit too impatient to wait for an answer from the blokes at AquariumLife.com, so I'll have a try here. I'm in need of some western minnows for my aquarium. I had a look around in Bannister Creek several times but didn't find any minnows. I know the Swan Valley Fish and Lily Farm but that's too much of drive for me. I've also personally seen minnows down in Araluen but that's also too far, plus I'm not sure if I'm allowed to fish there. Does anyone know of any other spots along the Canning?

The Mighty Murray Black Bream
Submitted by JorgoF390 on Thu, 2016-12-29 15:36This morning at first light, my best mate and my self launched the little F390 into the Murray River at the South Yunderup ramp - the conditions where surpreme - a little breeze and no one on the water. My F390 with the Suzuki DF20A 4st glided up the river like the SAS on a mission - gee those suzi's are quite - We had 2 rods each - 1 rigged for bait - 1 for lures - all in the 1-4kg Diawa Graphite 7ft with the new Diawa BG 2500 - loaded with 8lb 8ply braid and 8lb Flurocarbon.
The water was very clean and with numerous splashes and the Garmin 4DV CHIRP showing a drop from 2.1m to 5m we decided to cut the engine and drift..... First cast of a unwieghted fresh river prawn ( whole ) and let sink - BANG !! - it got smashed hard - The mighty Murray Black Bream was on the hunt.
We travelled well past Pinjarra up the Murray, stopping for regular casts along the way and ended up landing 5-6 good size black bream - North of the Ravi pub was the most productive. We look for a tree branch poking out and just rope off to it.
Had a coffee and just admired the serinty of the Murray and both commented on how healthy the marine eco system is - only to both see a bloody dolphin pop up and disappear, this only confirms that it is a clean and healthy river system.
We had an cracking morning and both admitted we may have been bitten by the Black Bream bug.......

Which tides for Whiting in Leschenault / Australind Estuary
Submitted by axeten on Fri, 2016-12-09 20:57Hi everyone,
Started to look around the estuary for some whiting using poppers.
Just wondering if people are having most luck at low tide or at high tide?
I thought I'd heard just before low tide was the best but have heard others say high is better.
Any advice would be appreciated. We went out at the Collie rivermouth last week and there was nothing.

Bayswater Mullaway
Submitted by Kezza5203 on Sun, 2016-10-23 12:52Hey guys, I was wondering if there were any mullaway around the garrotte road bridge. Also do yellow tail grunted work as fresh bait because the size limit for bream is 25cm so it would be a bit to big. Thanks

Pemberton trout
Submitted by davewillo on Thu, 2016-09-29 10:02Hi all
I'm heading down to Pemberton with my 14yo son for a few days next week. This is an annual trip to spend some quality time together and do some fishing.
I've discovered some good spots over the years but those are mostly on the Lefroy and a couple of others. What I'm hoping for is some guidance on locations that give reasonable access to the Warren, Donnelly and Treen Brook. It's hard to keep a teenager's interest at times when you're just srambling through one after another area choked with blackberries!
I'm not looking for any secret spots of course but just locations where access is easier than others. I can hopefully find the fish once we can get to the water!
Appreciate any help that you can give.
Cheers
Dave
