Swan river crabs
Submitted by AlwaysFishin on Sun, 2011-12-18 08:11Has anybody been crabbing in the swan recently? Last time I ventured out, about a month ago, most were undersized with keepers few and far between. Just wondering if it's worth giving it another go yet?

Anyone offer some general swan trolling tips?
Submitted by sstevee on Thu, 2011-12-15 11:13Hi guys, so I finally managed to get the tinnie out last night. I launched from the mounts bay jet ski ramp and headed toward Matilda bay. I got on the water about 6pm and back in just after dark. I was trolling at round 3knots. I ended up getting just one hook up but I'm not sure I'm doing it right. I was initially using a 10g twisty but it seemed to just sit on the surface and skim along the top, is this right, or should it be suspended?
I then changed to a 60 or 80mm suspending lure which was suspended and got my strike on that. Which brings me to my next question, what do u guys do with the outboard once u get a hook up? Do u just turn it off or throw it in idle or wat? I spent way too much time stuffin around with my outboard and allowed a heap of slack and obviously whatever it was got off. I was spewin coz it definitely hit hard and just ran.
I'm new to this boating stuff but after last nights hook up I definitely wanna get out there again ASAP with hopefully a bit more luck, so was hoping to get some pointers from you guys, even if it seems way obvious I could probly do with being told, haha
Thanks
Steve

Freshwater fishing rule changes. What are peoples thoughts?
Submitted by Redfin 4 Life on Sun, 2011-11-27 15:29Hey all, was just reading an article on Freshwater fishing for the south west from yesterdays newspaper and found it pretty interesting :) there has been a few modified rules and regulations, all good i think. The season had been extended this year by two months so that the season now runs from September 1st right through until June 30th leaving 2 months for stocked fish to acclimatise to their new environments before the season re-opens.
Along with the extended season, there are also no longer any 'special rules' applying to louges brook and waroona dams. There has also been an increase in the number of trout waters open to fishing ALL YEAR. These include Louge brook, Big brook, Wellington, and Glen Mervyn dams.
The other change that i wasnt so keen on was that the closed season is now closed to ALL freshwater fishing even for species such as redfin and cobbler.
I was just curious as to what everyone else thinks of the changes?, but i think overall it was pretty good. Any feedback would be appreciated thanks :)

Prawning
Submitted by Damage82 on Sun, 2011-11-20 13:26Hi all,
Am very new to prawning and am looking for some pointers. I have tried the search function before anyone points that out to me.
I am looking at getting prawns for either bait or a feed. Now I am located in Bunbury. I remeber when I was a lot younger heading out with a net in the inlet down towards Australind but this was many moons ago now.
Is there any area's not specific spots I can try? Oh I have a hand held prawn light and a prawn net no boat.
Your help or pointers would be muchly appreciated.

Swan River Choppers
Submitted by the_dude84 on Fri, 2011-10-28 13:07Just been reading the west and i hear that some up to 40cm have been caught up as far as windan bridge... anyway my other half agreed to look after my neice and nephew today without my knowledge. Thinking of taking them to PT Walter to target some choppers (instead of them destroying the house). Just wondering if anyone has had any luck there?

berley mullet up
Submitted by flyingdutchfisherman on Tue, 2011-09-13 21:45There is a lot of mullet swimming under the lights of the jetty around night time. But they just swimming in the shadow lines. I always cath a couple with my cast net. But it would be easy if I can get them more close to the jetty under the light. So how can I berley them all closer to the jetty?
I know there are many diffrent mullets. I reckon it is sea mullet. They are quit big boys, really silver and fat.
I tried bread but they don't really respond to the bread.. What else can I try?
Any Berley tips would be good so me and my friend don't need to argue about the last mullet haha
cheers

Harvey
Submitted by MickyDav on Wed, 2011-08-31 16:4312 hours to go till we wet our lines in the Harvey dam , cant wait .
Went down there last sunday for a look at the levels and the clarity of the water and was amazed at how many people were fishing there,
I know before someone reminds me that I was doing the same thing out of season fishing there some time ago as I was under the asumption that it was an open season dam, It does however show a problem with getting people to understand and know the rules and why was there no ranger or the like letting people know the rules ,even some signs would be a start.
Anyway wish us luck , have never caught a trout .
Mike.

First egi session last night - just a question.
Submitted by jeremy-j on Thu, 2011-05-05 07:57Hi Guys,
Just a question for all the Squido's out there. Last night i went down for my first EGI session and at the end of the night it seems i was bitten off. Cast out had a few twitches and then bang, felt like a fish and before i could do anything gone. I got some of my leader back and it had definite bite marks in it. Is this a regular occurance with anyone or more of a freak event? Im using 4lb nitlon PE with a small amount of 8lb flouro as leader/wind on joined together by a bimini to albrieght.
On a plus side i did manage to get a couple, 4 in 5 casts (well 3 squid and 1 Cuttlefish). Spent more time driving to and from fremantle than actually squiding but it was worth it and ill be going again soon.
Sorry about the phone snaps it was late and i couldnt be bothered with the SLR.
