Will trout or redfin take poppers?
Submitted by Redfin 4 Life on Mon, 2009-12-28 20:50Hey guys i was just wondering if anyone had caught redfin or trout on poppers. Ive never tried them in freshwater and thought they might do well over snaggy or shallow areas. I dont see why they wouldnt work and was wondering if anyone has seen evidence of this working?

Honeymoon Pool
Submitted by Redfin 4 Life on Mon, 2009-12-28 18:49Went to honeymoon pool this arvo hoping for a couple of trout and or redfin but forgot about the fact that it was a long weekend so there was a big crowd. But despite the people i flicked a couple of celtars out around the decking not expecting to hook a fish with all of the comotion and was right. So i moved up stream about 40 metres onto an island sort of thing in the middle to acces a nice deep and fairly fast stretch of river with a big old log running from one side or the other submerged under the water. I flicked a couple of casts down stream and slowly brought the spinner in againt the current hoping to attract a fish from down stream or somewere nearby. But i only saw a tiny little rainbow trout come in after it. So the next cast i put further upstream and brought it down and swam the red celta spinner along the big log hoping for some action but again, nothing. But finally after about 10-15 more casts upstream and down past the log i saw what looked like a brown trout of about 30-35cms follow in the spinner and then lose interest right at the end. Anyway acouple more flicks into the same area finally got him, he shot out from further upstream and followed the lure with more enthusiasm than before so i slowed the spinner down but kept it spinning and he smashed it. There was a rush of exitement as i felt the tension of the line get stronger. The trout put on a fare show he jumped a couple of times into the air as i brought him in and right as i was about to grab the line above the lure to land the fish he flicked once more and freed himself from the hook and swam away... I went further downstream from the decking where i found some really nice spots for trout. I saw a couple more small ones follow in and then was called to go back to the car...
So in the end i hooked one fish and saw multiple duvenille fish so overall a good sighn for the trout fishing at honeymoon pool. Taking into consideration that hundreds of people had camped and fished there since the long weekend started on christmass day. I would have taken some pictures but my camera is having some technical problems at the moment.

most of the action happened using a medium sized hard boddied lure in the perch pattern i think it might be because the redfin have just bread and are predatorising the young redfin.

Catching jacks
Submitted by WODF on Sat, 2009-11-07 18:42Having returned home, this Summer I plan on doing quite a few trips to our local creek system chasing the mangrove jack, seeing if I can suss a few things out. Not having caught a jack in my life I was after a few basic tips to get me started - do you prefer trolling, casting, live-baiting and at what stages of the tide etc... lure lengths, retrieve, colour etc... just anything. Also, not being able to use a cast net around the creeks in the North-West, how would you go about collecting live bait like mullet etc... or what would be the best bait?
Cheers!

Ive been getting into the flatties lately around the canning and herring still seem to be around the lower reaches. I have not had a ton of luck with bream lately and have not seen the summer choppers yet.

Trout fishing W.A
Submitted by Loves his Trout on Wed, 2009-07-15 09:08Guys
I would really like to get into the trout here in W.A and am on the search for somewhere to go. Having previously fished Victoria. Eildon, Kiewa valley, Goulbourn river etc. I have been reading about different spots on the net and have read that Wahroona dam, Murray river and Warrens river. It has also pointed me towards Serpertine river. Is there anywhere close to Perth I can go without going to a farm? Is Serpentine River even a spot to go?
I do know that the season is closed at the moment.
