Car Park White Van High End Audio Scam - Beware
Submitted by alexangler on Tue, 2012-07-17 15:09My Dad nearly got scammed today.
Was in the woolies car park at Currambine shops when we were approached by two guys in a white Toyota HiAce van tring to sell us some high end audio stuff that they had spare from doing jobs installing them.
Very convincing stuff and they've got a website set up for it all. They were offering us a projector and surround sound for $500-1000 and very nearly got hus.
Luckily Dad went by his motto of 'if it sounds to good to be true......'
Checked it out on the net when I got back in and sure enough
www.inmycommunity.com.au/news-and-views/local-news/Beware-speaker-scam/7573988/
Also, watch out for it on gumtree as some people are trying to sell it on.
If anyone is approached by them then get the rego and call 1300133408.

Would you kill a great white ?
Submitted by NORUN NOFUN on Mon, 2012-07-16 08:58I"ve always thought that if I lost my son or daughter to a great white attack - I would want to hunt it down and kill it !
What would you do, if that was your family member - your son, daughter, father or mother ?
My logical side tells me, that the ocean is their domain, and we enter the ocean with risk ! But my emotional side tells me, I would hunt it down and kill it, so this happens to no other family.
What would you do ??

Direction Island
Submitted by Xtreme Coolers on Sun, 2012-07-15 18:29Hi all.
Just back from Gnaraloo after a week up there. Great trip and met a few more FW crew while we were there. (Report to come). I was wondering if anyone has any information on direction Island. My mates and i are looking for a new challenge next year year and Direction island came up. The water looks quite shallow on the navionics, so i guess trout would be the target species. Lots of macks as well i have heard. The shack i understand is still in commission after the Mackerel's closed. Any information would be appreciated.
Regards
Xtreme Dave

wrist shark deterrant
Submitted by cocokye on Sun, 2012-07-15 10:50The wife was talking to a person at her work the other day about diving and the discussion turned to sharks, he mentioned that he had seen on a website that somebody had brought out a wrist shark shield that is similar to a watch. Our son is a mad keen body boarder and a surf board shark shield is not really appropriate for this type of activity as they are laying on the board all the time and the tail would give them a shock. Has any one heard of these or knows of something that would work in this situation.
I dive and have a divers shark shield give me and the wife piece of mind when down under the water, but with the sighting and attacks we need to sort something out for these type of activitys.
Cheers
Colin

Out of date flare submissions for D o T
Submitted by carnarvonite on Fri, 2012-07-13 15:31There is serious discussion going on in the Dept of Transport about rec fishers having their flare packs in date and not just in good condition.
They are taking submissions from those interested in putting their proposals in for the legislation changes so this can happen
The reason for this is to solve the problem of "what is good condition?" The inspector cannot tell if a flare is in good condition and the only way to find out is to set it off and then you are left with nothing.
My proposal is that we be allowed a 2 year extension on what is shown on the flare pack expiry date, so if it shows a 3 year date then we are allowed 5 years before getting a replacement set, same thing if it shows an expiry of 5 years then its 7 years for you to replace them.

Broome to the Big Smoke
Submitted by exp2000 on Thu, 2012-07-12 07:41Hey guys,
Going to Perth for a couple of weeks for some study and R&R.
Being a Broome resident, kayak shopping has been a long distance affair for me and a visit to the big city presents a great opportunity to checkout new technology in the flesh. Blue water and expedition kayaking are of particular interest.
Any recommendations on some ful kit shops down there. Same same for fishing tackle thanks.
A friend who is accustomed to big city traffic will be driving me around. Sharks I can handle but big city traffic scares the hell outa me!
Anyone into big game? Would love to checkout your setups. PM or email me and maybe we can catch up while I am down there.
Will probably be at a loose end this weekend.

Swimming pool advice - help I'm tearing my hair out!!!!
Submitted by John the Pom on Wed, 2012-07-11 14:23The pool has recently turned into a pond.
We've been having trouble with it since Christmas. Water is fine (pH, salt, phosphates etc) as it's been tested several times. Replaced the cartridge in the filter which needed changing anyway, had the cell tested which is three years old and that's running at about 80% chlorine output, pump is on for 2x3hrs a day, normally we have the cover on.
I have two problems:
- The control box fell off the mountings in Feb, I've had this briefly tested and it was ok, however, I suspect its not and this is the chlorine output problem
- When I clean the cartidge filter, the pressure would normally run out about 20 for weeks, for the last couple of months it starts at 20 and then goes to about 100+ within an hour. When I clean it, this happens every single time. The only thing I haven't looked at yet is the pump, it sounds fine and the last time the pump got clogged the pressure went down, not up. This pressure going up thing is doing my head in.
I just wanted some second opinions before I splashed the cash on a pool guy, because I know good trustworthy ones are hard to find.
Cheers
John

Anyone with a boat (Perth) - help needed
Submitted by Waza on Mon, 2012-07-09 07:53Hi guys
I am looking for anyone with a boat that may be able to help me out. I am looking at doing the Rottnest Swim by myself next February (23rd). As part of the race each competitor requires a support boat (5m or bigger) to chug alongside over to Rotto. I am coming over from NSW for the swim and it's a little too far to drag a boat over. I know other members in this forum have helped others out with a support boat so I thought I would try my luck here. I am willing to pay for all expenses and chip in more to cover your time, beers etc. Let me know if you or someone else may be interested to help out. You can direct msg me here or email - thanks
Cheers

A few recent photos
Submitted by r.gates on Sun, 2012-07-08 20:00Hi guys
I recently bought a new Nikon D5100 DSLR and lens kit (18 - 50mm and 55 - 300mm) and I've been madly taking photos of anything and everything....sunrises, sunsets, close ups of anything, etc. I've also added a few more things to my camera bag, which required a new camera bag!
I've added a 10 - 24mm wide angle lens and a 150 - 500mm telephoto lens to my arsenal...for now, I've pretty well got most situations covered...well, that's what I've told mrs gates...shhhh.
Here's some pics, hope you enjoy them....some have been cropped to highlight the subject but none of them have been enhanced in any way....I prefer to present the image in it's 'as shot' format. Maybe once I get further along with my photography, I'll look at that side of things.
1. Mountain ducks on the wing.
2. Fire
3. Magpie
4. Full moon last week...across the Harvey Estuary
5. Full moon framed by windmill...taken before it set on Thursday morning
6. Full moon...taken with a 500mm lens

8. Juvenile female Blue Wren

Fridge help
Submitted by troopie87 on Mon, 2012-07-02 16:55hi,
I have a 60 litre evakool fridge, i plugged it into my aux point in the back of my 100 series recently for a day trip up to moore river. I had it in there for about an hour to cool down, then went out to put some food in it just before i was leaving and it hadnt cooled down at all and the fault light was flashing but it still sounded like it was cycling. I brought it inside and plugged it in and was working fine so must be something to do with my car, i checked my batteries and aux point with multimeter and they all read over 13 volts. Anyone else had this sort of problem before, thought id ask on here first before i go see an auto sparkie.
cheers

Service Shimano trynos 30 & 20
Submitted by telferfish on Mon, 2012-07-02 11:23Have had some trouble servicing a couple of lever drag reels. Normaly just give them a dip in warm soapy water leave them to dry then inox the external moving parts. but for some reason decided to strip them right down layed everything out neat cleaned everything up lubricated and reversed them back together. looked great and looked like i knew what i was doing however now they both are stiff to wind when the drag is up, if i back the drag right off they wind like normal but when setting the drag up to 5kg they can hardly be turned. Does anyone have any ideas of what i have misplaced / needs replacing or what i have done incorrectly? Any feedback is appreciated and can hopefully save me sending them away
