MUST SEE! DONT dig the Moore river sandbar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Submitted by tailor marc on Sun, 2012-06-17 10:03We decided to head back to Moore river for a proper fishing session. No photograhy just solid fishing. I took my camera just in case i got the “Big one”. Little did i know that my fishing was about to be interrupted in a big way.
As were were fishing we seen a few guys walk down on the sandbar and start digging at the sandbar with there feet. I knew straight away what was about to happen! Didnt take long before a guy stormed down and let loose at the guys, yelling at them as he tried to stop the trickle of water that was now running out of the river and into the sea. The guy gave up and it had now begun.
The guys left and now within 10 min the water was starting to flow harder. Little did i know how full on this was to become and that someone was going to come close to losing their life. Some their guys came running down carrying boogie boards and were yelling and jumping with joy. I was thinking ” Why the hell are they so happy, it wont flow much harder then this let alone hard enough to surf on. Boy was i wrong.
I got back to fshing then 10 min later i looked over and it was now acually flowing hard enough to surf to i got over there with my camera and snapped away. Good bye fishing time haha Photography took over yet again!
Here is the link ( saves me posting all the pictures)... http://marcrussoamazingadventures.wordpress.com/2012/06/17/dont-dig-the-sandbar/

Making and applying rod decals?
Submitted by scano on Sat, 2012-06-16 08:08G'day all,
I just received a rod decal in the post from the us. My problem being is that it is too small for the blank I have got.
Has anyone actually printed their own custom rod graphics / decals and applied them to rod blanks?
Printing them would be the easy part obviously but I was wondering how you go about printing some so that when you apply clear rod finish over the top then the ink does not run?
I did some hunting on line and came up with Mixes results but from what I can gather a clear sealer of some kind needs to be applied in order to stop the ink running when apply the top coat of rod finish?
Any info or suggestions would be much apappreciated
Cheers

GPS Coordinates for reefs etc
Submitted by Mainey on Wed, 2012-06-13 16:38
I was 'playing' with my Raymarine GPS and now have lost all my saved gps settings
Does anyone know if they are 'saved' somewhere or do I have to ask again to get them reloaded ??
Only had about 7 places and they were all down here in the Busselton round the south coast area
but I used them and now I'm frustrated with myself for this stupid move - will write them down this time and won't do it again

Solas propellers from USA iboat, I think very cheap
Submitted by Magneto on Wed, 2012-06-13 16:02
Hi All , if u are thinking of an S/S propeller. After a recommendation from a forum site for iboat USA, I purchased the Solas RBX-126 - High Performance Rubber HubSolas Rubex HR4 Blade Stainless 13" dia. X 19" pitch SR for the amount $405.80 here was 655.00 from Solas agent here in Perth. Just 7 days for it to be at the door and after checking the delivery invoice for only $335.80, double checked the paying agent and that was all that was paid to iboat. The weather is to foul to give it a run but I expect a better performance than the old aluminum which will how be the spare. I considered it a very good deal and hence this report for anybody thinking of doing the same.
Happy boating P/S it went on a Suzuki DF140 4 stroke
that included shipping ... - 75 comments

Free advertising

Noticed a heap of dacals for boats appear and their name doesn't appear to be on the site sponsors list?

Tub liners
Submitted by james14 on Tue, 2012-06-12 19:14Hi all
Got myself a 08 Colorado last week and have a question regarding the tray/tub.
I'm wanting to put a tub liner in the back but a mate at work told me to look at a spray, that acts as a tub liner.
Has anybody done this/ have any information on the above?
Thanks James

More Theft
Submitted by Barrd Up on Tue, 2012-06-12 07:50Normally take everything out the boat, as it is stored on the driveway (Kiara). Left the sinker box (approx 20 kilo's of assorted sinkers) and spare anchor rope (12mm * 100 meters) plus 9 meters of chain in the underfloor kill tank. Some low life has helped themselves. Have a security light on sensor set up above boat, but the pricks snapped the lights so that they angled to the ground instead of on the boat. Was home on the night never heard a thing. Surprised that they took this base gear, not likely to make much if they intend to sell.
Only hope they were on foot and ended with a sore back carrying my gear away. Time to consider some sort of upgrade to the security.

HDS7
Submitted by NORUN NOFUN on Fri, 2012-06-08 19:17G'Day fella's,
I am thinking about putting two Lowrance HDS7's into the tub, one as a dedicated fish finder, the other as a gps.
The fish finder will have a 1kw transducer, and the gps will run the LSS-2 structure scan that can overlay onto the existing Navionics chart.
I have a Barcrusher560c with sealed floor and do not have access to put down a wet box/thru hull transducer.
Does anybody have any reviews of the Lowrance HDS7, with the LSS-2 structure scan and 1kw transducer or the 50/200 transducer ?
Or alternatively, any reviews of other setups - I would have liked to run the HDS8 or 10 but it is all getting very expensive and nearing the 3 g's.

Wild weather In Bass Straight!
Submitted by southcity104 on Fri, 2012-06-08 08:59This was sent to a mate of mine.
In Bass Straight (I was told)
"we had 14m seas with 80+ knots on sunday
the ' wave pic' is underneath Marlin-A (the rig on the far right of the first pic) its not a 14m meter wave but sorta gives an idea.
there is a whole deck under water covered by the wave
Crazy to watch it go from relatively flat to psycho in just a couple of hours - mother nature is one powerful beast!!"

Sunrise 6/06/12
Submitted by r.gates on Thu, 2012-06-07 21:18I recently bought the new DSLR (Nikon D5100) and I've been carrying with me everywhere I go.
On my way to work each day, I'm heading East then southeast, so I get to see the sun come up....some mornings are better than others and yesterday was a beauty. I'm still playing around with settings, lenses, etc but I'm happy with the results so far, even though I'm only part way thru the 237page owners manual!!
The 4th photo is a panorama of 4 images stitched together...taken freehand but a tripod would be better.

Long shot but here goes .................
Submitted by alfred on Thu, 2012-06-07 15:41I am helping out some folk and we are short of one laptop for a project.
Anyone here have a working laptop that is just sitting on the shelf?
Does not have to be fancy, just needs to have wireless. Processor speed, HD capacity, size, weight etc are not an issue.
Latest tow-in was hard work.
Submitted by carnarvonite on Thu, 2012-06-07 13:52We had been alerted to a motor sailer that was due on Sunday asking if we could tow it in because they had a damaged water pump and couldn't run for more than a couple of minutes before overheating.
After many radio calls and phone calls up the coast to other groups to keep an eye out we got a message through that they were expected out front at 0700 yesterday. After taking the rescue boat out in real crap conditions we discovered nothing in sight so back to the pen.
The owner who was expecting his new boat to be here finally got a phone call through to the boat and found out that they'd got hit with a 50knot squall overnight and torn their sails out and damaged the mast head so they could drop the torn sails and put new ones up.
They needed a tow from 19nm out so off we went, I had cracked 3 ribs in a fall on Thursday and thought that I'll be right WRONG, after about 5nm I'd had enough and we turned around to head in and drop me off with another skipper to take over.
As they finally found the yacht and went to start the tow they copped a wave and the decky ended up with a cut requiring 6 stitches when they got back in The bloke skippering the yacht was none other than Jon Sanders, who has been non stop round the globe about 4 times, delivering the yacht to its new owner here from up past Indonesia.
The skipper who took over from me is sore all over today, Ian the decky is now known as Warnie because of the new strands of "hair"that have sprouted from his head and it will take me a few days longer before the ribs heal but the guys are in safe and sound and thats what matters.

Dome Swag - Want a new one.
Submitted by Buz on Thu, 2012-06-07 10:18Gday all, just wanting to know what Dome Swags others are running out there for when you head outdoors. I have an old AOS Tracker(not dome) that i bought in 1996 that has served me well but alas i am now getting to the point that i want the comforts of a dome swag that has hoops to keep it off me at night, and presumably helps the rain run off it better.
I know that the new dome style AOS Tracker would be the equivalent of my old one but at $529, i cant justify paying that much where i could get two cheaper ones for almost the same price.
A few that i have been looking at on different online sellers that are all roughly the same in design and in price are:
Darche superdome Single $309
Sahara Roamer Deluxe Single $185 (on special usually around $300)
Onland Jardine Super Deluxe King Single $309
Oztrail Mitchell Single $325
Moondyne Nimbus King Single(cheaper version of AOS Tracker) $389
Jolly Swagman Shiralee XL $425
Anyone had any experience with any of these Swags or have recommendations of an alternative i havent yet seen?
Not looking at getting one customs made as i would rather just buy a premade one.
Thanks, Buz.

Submitted by Tomcat on Thu, 2012-06-07 08:24Would like to thank you all for comments on cancer. gave me a big lift so my wish is that every member that smokes give it a miss.
3 months ago I was painting with my son 50 hrs a week, now can barely get out of bed lost 15 kgs. let me tell you there is little warning and the heartbreak look on your kids face is unbearable.
my best advice if you have mates that smoke is not to say give that dirty shit away it won't work. try To encourage, it shows your sincere about it.
thanks for listening it helps to talk about it
