Boats & Camping Gear
Submitted by JayEm on Thu, 2010-05-06 18:51
Just might be interesting to someone, I found this on the net today, Ross's Auctions, they have an upcoming auction of boats and lots of used swags, camping gear and other stuff.
Regards
Johnno.
Just in case stuff
Submitted by Dale on Thu, 2010-05-06 17:18My wife looked all my gear building up in the workshop and asked why I needed so much of the stuff even though I wasn't taking it out when I go. I told her it was just in case I needed it some day but I don't know when. It got me thinking though, is it ok to have gear like that you don't use or hasn't been used since you bought it or mad it made up for you. Surely it's ok to have, most blokes would have gear like this I said to the cook. Am I right??
Cheers

Landcruiser querry
Submitted by Buz on Tue, 2010-05-04 22:17Just thought id throw my questions up to see what peoples thoughts are.
Friend has a 1994 Toyota Landcruiser Troop Carrier(bench seats in the rear) Diesel 4.2L.
Done 350000km.
Is in immaculate condition, front and rear insides still has all the linning and covers. Outside no hint of rust. Has spent most its life doing holiday road trips away and a bit of caravan towing. When not away touring, it is a city run around car.
He is looking for around $15000.00 for it.
Was considering upgrading my current 94 Hilux, and would like something that has a fair bit more power to tow the 5.8m Ally. Have settled on that if i am to upgrade i would like a troopie. Dont want to spend the $$$ for the new V8's though.
So i guess what i am asking is, is this a good deal?
Is 350000km to much? How many more km's you think i could get out of it?
Could you do an engine rebuild to extend its life?
If anyone else has a troopie similar how would you rate them for towing my 5.8m ally? Like say to tow to Exmouth ;)
Any advice would be welcome as i am still UMing and AHing.
Thanks Buz.

Mining Help!
Submitted by Just1morecast on Mon, 2010-05-03 17:38Hi everyone,
Well ive tried my hardest to try and get my foot in as a dump truck driver and a few other various jobs. Driving is prodominently what i want to do as i actually enjoy driving. I have previously done a 7month stint as a drillers offsider in an open cut mine and did that purely to use as a resume build up to say "hey ive worked in the mines" but this hasn't given me any heads up in becoming a driver.
So i guess im looking for a helping hand if there is any, im 22 and have a mortgage so im willing to work and as my referees will say, i am a hard worker and work to get what i want. I know driving the cats aren't hard, so i KNOW i can do it. Sometimes i think im too young but i do here of 18-20yo people driving them and that bugs me especially when i have the right mind frame in terms of working hard to pay off my house.
If there's anyone that can help me that would be great and Adam if this content is not permitted i understand delete this thread or just say so and i will.
Cheers
Sha

Barotrauma and bulging eyes
Submitted by Alan James on Mon, 2010-05-03 17:38I think we have all seen pics at one time or another with fish that have their eyes bulging from their head. Is this related to barotrauma or just another side effect of pulling a fish up from deep water or perhaps too fast? Can fish with bulging eyes be successfully released in waters less than say 100m deep with the use of a release weight?

Update on Mills Charters Release Method
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sun, 2010-05-02 21:53As most of you know what went on with Mills Charters during the last week and you probably read their response to what was happening. Well , a friend of mine went out with them on Friday just gone , he got a few fish but nothing to write home about. while fishing in 120mtrs out the back of rotto he pulled up an undersize pinkie and before he could do anything the decky was onto the fish removing the hook and then just threw it overboard, with that the pinkie just flapped around on the surface and an albatross got to it. My friend was disgusted in the way it happened. Asked the deckie if they had one of those release weight things, his response was , yeah we have one somewhere over there. ........

new sounder
Submitted by just dhu it on Sun, 2010-05-02 20:40I put up a thread awhile back regarding the scroll speed on the Lowrance lcx37 and broadband unit i was using , after much discussion comments from the site , i made the decision to upgraqde to a furuno 585 with the 1 kw transducer, i installed the unit Saturday and went out today for a trial run before Exy , i found the unit was a big improvement on scroll speed , the furuno actually has four speeds to choose from and at 3 let alone 4 the picture was scrolling very fast across the screen and i would guess now mostly i would be using 1/1 or 2/1 which seems more than adequate. another improved feature is the bottom lock
The sales man told me the transducer was twice the size of the lowrance, i think its about 4 times the size its closer to a old pearl diver lead boot but even on my 610 trailly its doesnt throw up to much water or causes interference to the picture , so all happy at the moment and looking forward to running it hard at Exy, will hopefully get some picture of the display for future info

Fish species under different names
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sun, 2010-05-02 13:41Here is something that i have been thinking about for a while and come across it many times . with so many species of fish that are known under more than one name , could everyone that knows of some put them up so others that arent so cluey on them can get to know what is what . things like Blue lined emperor and Spangled emperor. Working for a fish outlet i see so many types of fish that i have no idea what they are when i see the label like for eg. white snapper, red spot emperor and so forth. i know most are of a northern species or come from over seas

Steep Point, Shark Bay
Submitted by JayEm on Sat, 2010-05-01 16:55
A group of us are going to Steep Point in late May, I read a comment on another web site forum that was adressed to Paul Dickenson the calm Ranger
Quote: Hi Paul, I hear there are updates planned by DEC which will affect the campsites. The big worry is no fires. Is this true and can you tell me what is proposed?
Paul, as usual, did not reply, however, one of our group recieved this email from his wife Pam,
Quote: On 29/04/2010, at 11:48 PM, paul dickenson wrote:
Forgot something else Dave.. if the guys bring any glass in they will need to take it home, no glass in bins anymore. Also no campfires, a webber with heat beads to cook a roast is fine but no wood fires please

Annoying Frog 2010 = Must Die!!!
Submitted by Goodz on Sat, 2010-05-01 09:02So we have a frog problem and it's getting beyond a joke! The score is Goodz = 0 , Frog = 100000000. Every night it starts it's annoying whining noise and I go out on my search and destroy mission only to come back in empty handed... frogless... with another little piece of my sanity gone...
It's living out the front in the nextdoor neighbours bordering garden bed, under a small shrub, buried in the ground somewhere. This happens to be about 3m's from our bed in the masterbed room. Everytime I get close to really home in on it's position it stops it's annoying noise and I blindy stab around in the ground with my gidgey pole to no avail. This is no ordanary frog, it's SUPER ANNOYING FROG 2010! It makes such a annoying noise, not like a nice frog sound.. more like a deep pitched, ear piercing, mind numbing whining sound. It must die!
Any suggestions on how to get rid of it, other than ripping up the neighbours garden to find it? I've done a little research on the net but most options are for when you can actually see the frogs.. this one is hiding under the ground... also under a plant, which I probably shouldn't kill in the process.
HELPPPPPP!

DSLR camera lens filters
Submitted by WODF on Fri, 2010-04-30 19:10Very soon, I plan on buying a 67mm circular polarizer filter for a Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens and I am in need of the more experienced, preferably users. Here's what I'm after:
- Brand name suggestions and brands to steer clear of (Hoya and Tiffen seem to be popular?)
- Overall image quality?
- Performance in low light or at night?
Any help would be great. More questions to come - guaranteed!

Looking around Dunsy etc.
Or does someone want to house swap with us.
We have a 4 bed 2 bath home in the rockingham area for 4 weeks if not longer?
We need somewhere we can park our caravan and stay for about 4 weeks to get a feel 4 the area and to see what the work situation is like.
We have 3 kids a 5 year old a 2 year old and a 4 month old.
We need to have power and to be able to use the toilet/shower.
I know it is a long shot but is anyone willing to give us a parcel of land on your block for us to try and do this, for up to 4 weeks?
