Got My RST Today
Submitted by LandyAndy on Mon, 2010-05-17 17:04Sat my RST today.Got it easypeasy!!!!
Was well worth doing, got plenty out of doing it.When I get out on a boat I only get to be the deckie.
The boat impressed me,4.6m quintrex centre console with a 50HP Evinrude.
Handled the 5 people on board well. Was good to have a go on that size boat as I would have previously considered it too small.
Lots cheaper than a bigger boat, worth considering as a first time boat. Not such a bad investment if it doesnt get the use, living inland as I do.

for those in the know about stern drives
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sun, 2010-05-16 21:37here it is , i drained the fluid out of the leg on the mercruiser today in the idea of trying to fix or at least find the cause of a grinding noise once i put it in gear. there didnt seem to be enough oil to start with and it was slightly milky as well. how much oil should there be in the leg ?. secondly there was a piece of metal about 1mm in diameter in the bottom of the leg that came out with the oil, my guess is there will be more , im thinking it is likely to be a cog of some description. how hard are the legs to pull apart , i do have a repair manual to help me out if i can understand it that is.
.. help me if you can, i need a salt water fix and it wont be till the tub is fixed

The reality is over
Submitted by Dale on Sun, 2010-05-16 18:15All of you out there across the globe who have fought so hard to tackle the hideous enemy of our planet, namely carbon emissions, you know ...that god you worship of "Climate Change" or "Global Warming"? Well, it's necessary to inform you of some bad news. Very disappointing information.
Are you sitting down?
The current volcanic eruption going on in Iceland, since its first spewing of volcanic ash this past week, has NEGATED EVERY SINGLE EFFORT you've made in the past five years to control CO2 emissions on our planet.
I know, I know.... (group hug)...it's very disheartening to realize that all the carbon emission savings you accomplished while suffering the inconvenience and expense of: driving a Prius hybrid, buying fabric grocery bags, sitting up till midnight to finish your kid's "The Green Revolution" science project, throwing out all of your non-green cleaning supplies, using only two squares of toilet paper, putting a brick in your toilet tank reservoir, selling your SUV and speedboat, going on vacation to the local beach instead of Kakadu, nearly getting hit every day on your bike, replacing your $1 light bulbs with $10 light bulbs ...well, in 4 days, those savings have all gone down the tubes.
The volcanic ash emitted into the Earth's atmosphere in the past 4 days has totally erased every effort we've made in the past 5 years to reduce carbon.
I wish I had a silver lining, but the bush fire season across the western US will start in about two months, fires that will negate efforts to reduce carbon
in our world for the next two years.
But hey, grab a beer, phone Penny Wong, and have a nice day!

Bush Mechanics
Submitted by Shorty on Fri, 2010-05-14 12:35On the way up to Exmouth last week i snapped my clutch cable at Woormerell Roadhouse last week 500 odd kms from Exxy, this did not cause any delays on my journey, a couple folks asked me how you drove with no clutch ?
Its simple but the most important thing is put the car in first gear before you start then turn the key,the car will kangaroo hop a couple meters and then you are fine,,change the gears as you would normally letting them find there own way in not forcing them in,,changing down is a bit tricker you may have to blip the accelerator to keep the revs high (the lower the gear the higher the revs).
When you want to come to a stop, get fuel etc put it in neutral and use your brakes to stop where required,,,when you do stop you need turn the engine off and put back into 1st gear again to get going.
If you are towing a large boat i would imagine you need to be on level ground or a slight incline for best results,i tried on a very slight incline,,the starter motor did not have the oommpp to get it started.
When i got a new clutch cable i had to remember to use the clutch
While i was away my sister did the head gasket in my old ute,it would overheat in a few minutes of driving after a while,,it gradually got worse,,mechanic said put some stop leak in and its been running as normal (this is only a short term fix tho)theres a few instrutions you have to follow on the bottle but the mechanic said just pour it in and it worked.
Any more tips or comments welcome,it might help folks on the road.

Xtreme Coolers back online with new specials and give away.
Submitted by Xtreme Coolers on Thu, 2010-05-13 21:08Hi all at Fishwrecked.
After waiting 6 weeks to get back online after Perth's big storm, i have finally gotton off my butt and comitted to continue to support the site. My first few months on Fishwrecked resulted in many enquiries and some worthwhile sales. I have developed the company over the past few months and now have 15 different boxes in stock. The new fibreglass range has been going well and has proven to be an excellent box, almost as good as a fridge. The website will be updated this week to include all dimensions for all boxes.
I would like to thank all of you who have purchased a box off me as you have been the ones who have helped to get the business off the ground.
For the remainder of the month and knowing that many of you are booked in to head North, i would like to offer all fishwrecked members a $40 dollar discount off the XT 100 Mackerel box. I have two colours in stock. The blue XT 100 Mack is now $230.00 and the white XT 100 Mack is now $250.00.
I am also still willing to deliver all boxes sold to fishwrecked members for free if you live in the metro area.
I wish i was able to be up in Exmouth for the comp, good luck guys and gals.
All details of the products available are on the website: xtremeproducts.com.au or you can contact me by return email or on the phone: 0403978583
Hope to speak to some of you soon

new 70 4st yammy
Submitted by PJAY on Tue, 2010-05-11 15:56for those looking at mid range repowering check out the new yammy 70 4stroke.....upgraded 60hp.
F70A
New Four Stroke F70. One Step Ahead.
The new F70 is a further development of the F60, sharing the same displacement and stroke. The engine is lighter than any competitive four stroke or direct injected two stroke motor in the 70 – 75 horsepower class. The F70 achieves this by its unique four valves per cylinder design activated by a single overhead camshaft rather than the conventional dual camshaft design for 16 valve engines. This reduces the weight that would result from having an extra camshaft and the components that go with it.
For a remarkably light engine, the F70 punches well above its weight. Four valves per cylinder have dramatically increased this engines volumetric efficiency - the efficiency with which the engine can draw fuel and air in and push exhaust out of the cylinders. Increasing this efficiency means the F70 is able to run at a higher rpm with the max operating RPM being increased to 6300rpm. The resulting top end performance will be great for boaters who want to get to their favourite spot first – and who doesn’t?

Two Rocks Ramps
Submitted by Iceman on Tue, 2010-05-11 10:02Launched at Two Rocks for the first time in months. The cost has gone up to $7.00. Nothing to show for the increase in fees and when I got home spent an hour getting the black marks of the hull from the tyres they use as buffers on the jetty. There were very few trailers considering the weather, now I know why. I think it is now the most expensive launcing ramp in the northern suburbs. At least at other ramps there are wash down facilities and decent ramps and jetties. If they are going to increase fees they need to upgrade the faciliteis available.
Also had a local get annoyed with me in taking time to leave the jetty whilst I waited for engine to warm up (about 2 minutes). He had just returned from checking pots. From launching to leaving jetty was about 10 minutes. Maybe he should complain to the yatch club instead

Anyone used fuel/water seperator funnels before?
Submitted by wadetolley on Tue, 2010-05-11 08:31Gday there. Well up at Groote here it seems we have some problems with dirty fuel. Most common problem is water in the fuel. I have already got a inline filter from tank to motor, but i would really like to get the water out, before it goes into the tank. A few guys on the island are using these http://www.mrfunnel.com/Mr._Funnel/Home.html im wondering if anyone on here has used one before, or any other ideas you have. Cheers Wade

Boats & Camping Gear

Just in case stuff
Submitted by Dale on Thu, 2010-05-06 17:18My wife looked all my gear building up in the workshop and asked why I needed so much of the stuff even though I wasn't taking it out when I go. I told her it was just in case I needed it some day but I don't know when. It got me thinking though, is it ok to have gear like that you don't use or hasn't been used since you bought it or mad it made up for you. Surely it's ok to have, most blokes would have gear like this I said to the cook. Am I right??
Cheers
