Is it the way you hold your tongue, or what
Submitted by Alan James on Wed, 2010-04-07 19:00The recent post about holiday makers northward bound reminded me of this. Filling the 4x4 regularly with petrol between Perth and Exmouth (boat attached) I have found is sometimes a tedious experience. At some service stations the petrol flows freely from the bowser where at others it shuts off after with anything more than a trickle fill rate. Minilya servo springs to mind as one of the tricklers.
What goes, is it me?

Austal, I take my hat off to you, a company with guts and vission
Submitted by Tony Halliday on Wed, 2010-04-07 07:54http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/newshome/7028665/luxury-ferry-keeps-workers-afloat/
many companies boot workers out faster than prune juice smoothy!
Yet Austal had the guts and faith to sink $100m into a project with no buyer yet, keep 400 workers in a job and take the leap of faith.
Thats what I call a good company and one I'd work for.
Not like the other major pr!cks that laid us off faster than flies and now cry to get us back to work for them when the swing moves up again,
Bravo Austal, You are a real world player and a company to be honored,
the rest of them that laid off workers to keep the fat pay packets in the directors hip-pockets, hope you learn a lesson from this.
ps I know of one company that laid off 40 workers for about 60 days till the project was to start up again and then wondered why no one want's to work for them now.

Cockburn sound crab ban.
Submitted by Rodrat on Tue, 2010-04-06 14:31Hi
According to the Fisheries website the sound is now closed for crabbing as of end of March.
On Monday 5th April while squdding i saw at least 5 boats putting out and pulling in crab nets.
Is this people not knowing about the ban or is the ban on or not?
Cheers

Fishing monday
Submitted by Paul G on Tue, 2010-04-06 05:52Headed out wide from Two Rocks on Monday water was lumpy as,plan was to go through some close in patches and see if the fish were on the bite. After a couple of hours and 4-5 patches and lumps I new this could be a slow day .Next patch and Jesse got a nice baldie, and then a Dhuie, around 5kg ,at least we had a feed. The drift was changing all the time every spot we drifted a different direction, frustrating. We thought things would pick up around 11 oclock as this was nearing high tide. There was plenty of fish on the sounder but most wern't biting. After leaving one spot I noticed a school of fish, after a drive back I seen it was a small lump with a big school on it first drop, hook up and dropped back down on again ,got four dhuies here and then thing went quiet ,I think the dropped fish and the released fish shut them down ,day ended up being a good one nine dhuies ,bigest 8kg a baldie ,blackass, sambo, and some small wrase and other bottom fish, all dhuies released without a release weight,in great condition .

A poem just for Dumper on his request
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Mon, 2010-04-05 13:48
Some say this site has gone a bit flat. .Others have had a dummy that they have spat. .I think its time for a few new pics. . And some people to show us all some new tricks. .The weather seems to be getting some down . .But this site will never drown. .Some of the stories will make you grin. . And some will make you want to hit the gin. .All those that have got out for a fish. .Make a lot only sit back and wish. .Wile some of us seem to always have to be at work . .Others get time off and have that little perk. .So why dont all you people that seem to whinge. .Get out there and get some fish that will make us cringe. .It wont be long and the weather will come fine. .Then im sure a lot on here will make the time. .So why dont you all get off your ass. .And get out to the fads and make a pass. .It wont be long for those that are making their trip north. .Then with all the pics and stories this site will go forth. .This little bit was written just for you Dumper. .Now get out there and catch yourself a thumper................

Canon 7D or Nikon D300S
Submitted by jay_burgess on Fri, 2010-04-02 19:49Wanting to upgrade my SLR so that I have a faster frame rate for capturing jump shots of barra and billfish. Pretty much decided on the 7D but I'm not loyal to any particular brand and am prepared to give the Nikon a go if someone can convince me. Canon has 18 megapixels versus 12.3 on the Nikon and 8 fps versus 7 although I'd say this is negligible. I've considered the 50D as a cheaper option but I'd like to do HD video recording as well so that pretty much counts out that model.

Is Good Friday the most boring day of the year?
Submitted by Dale on Fri, 2010-04-02 15:19Nothing is open, not even Bunnings, no morning paper, no footy, no nothing. I reckon it really needs to be treated like a normal public holiday, at least then some businesses still open and our options are much better. Oh well, time for a new beer.
Cheers

Large shark cat in Dampier
Submitted by Dale on Fri, 2010-04-02 15:01Howdy all, someone with a very large shark cat is staying at Penny Palms at present, arrived there sometime over night on Wednesday and was parked up just across from my room. Does it belong to anyone frequenting this web site? Very nice looking fishing rig it was, but would have been struggling to pull it with anything other than a very large 4WD or truck. Called Old Tom or something.
Cheers

Submitted by hekser on Thu, 2010-04-01 11:14Howdy, my mate just got a new boat(18ft) so we are taking it out to cockburn sound to get the feel of it before we go any where far.
Just wondering on what we should expect to catch what kinda rigs would be most beneifical and the line class we should be using- ive been fishing the l\moles recently so im spooled with 50lb.. is this overkill or ill find a 10kilo fish ? :D also getting teh crab pots set up - what length rope would i need? how deep does cockburn get? anyone want to toss me some gps co-ords for decent fishing in cockburn or surrounding areas?
many thanks and tight lines,
