Pimp my trailer
Submitted by dumper on Wed, 2010-06-30 00:08Stripping back the trailer for the cc for a bit of an over haul ( new springs, hubs, bearings, winch, rollers, rust removal, maybe weld on some more support for the cross braces and a new coat of paint)
Now i want to take it into gnarloo and maybe steep point, what are the things to be wary about? I've heard alot of horror stories from people taking boats into places like that.
So anyone got any tips to toughen up my trailer?

Sea Anchor Position
Submitted by Kingfisher549 on Mon, 2010-06-28 21:00Posted a pic that had my sea anchor out the back, it was suggested by Paul G to tie the anchor of the side to slow the drift even more. What is the general rule?
I tie the anchor of the back because it allows two ppl to fish two rods easily and sit back in the seats to relax.
What do you do and why?

Anyone going to Gnaraloo Station this Sat?
Submitted by Xtreme Coolers on Mon, 2010-06-28 20:43I am heading to Gnaraloo Station on Saturday for the annual migration North. This will be our 7th year there. The weather is looking good, fingers crossed. I was just wondering if anyone else from the site is going to be up there at the same time? I will be there from Sat 3rd to Sat 10th. This year we hope to come across a few sailfish and marlin a bit wider out.

Charter boat thanks
Submitted by carnarvonite on Mon, 2010-06-28 16:53Many thanks go to one of the charter boats working from Carnarvon. The charter boat TOP GUN2 does Sunday morning to Thursday afternoon charters for mainly fly in punters to head out around the islands and as far north as Red Bluff/Gnaraloo on occasions when the fish are scarce. The punters buy their booze locally to take on board and seeing as they cannot or don/t take it back with them on the plane they leave it on the boat whose skipper, Aldo, kindly donates to Sea Rescue to sell in our sundowners on the last Friday evening of each month with all invited. Also they have a collection tin on board that usually has something in the range of $50 per trip for "offences"[f#$K ups]fines that occur.
In addition to that they are always available for information on overdue boats in his area if we cannot contact them and weather conditions at the islands should any vessel have any doubts about before leaving Carnarvon to head over.

Media Convertor .MKV to .AVI???
Submitted by Lucky Tim on Sun, 2010-06-27 14:24Hey everyone
I'm slowly but surely copying all of my DVDS to my portable hard drive, however the program I use to convert the .VTS etc etc into a single file leaves me with a finished product in a .MKV format. I like the program as it is easy to do series' or multiple episode DVDS and the .MKV format is fine for watching on my computer but my TV won't play this file type. So, I am looking for a media convertor to go from .MKV to .AVI so Hayley can watch them all on the TV. Is anyone using one? I'd like to keep it free if possible, I know there are programs out there to buy but don't really want to buy something like this on the old Visa over the www.
Cheers
Tim

Five years' jail for fatal Sydney boat crash pair
Submitted by Tony Halliday on Fri, 2010-06-25 13:28at last a judge that see the true crime of drunken skippering of a boat!
5 years, yes they deserved more in my eyes, but well done judge.
Quote " SKIPPER Matthew Reynolds and his unlicensed passenger Percy Small have both been sentenced to at least five years' jail over a boat crash on Sydney Harbour which killed six people.
Their trial was told Reynolds was intoxicated when, minutes before the crash, he handed over the wheel of the workboat to Small, who was affected by alcohol, cannabis and cocaine reported AAP.

Gosnells heads worst hoon drivers survey
Submitted by Colin Hay on Thu, 2010-06-24 10:36I know that this is not fishing related - but I thought it may be of interest.
It appears that a RAC survey of Perth's worst suburbs for hoon drivers has rated Gosnells number one, with the next two worst suburbs also located south of the river at Canning Vale and Armadale - which the RAC found were not far behind Gosnells for the number of hoon cars impounded.
Leading suburbs for hoon performances north of the river were Wanneroo, Ballajura and Joondalup.
Somehow, my own hoon suburb of Mirrabooka missed out.

a fishing joke
Submitted by PJAY on Wed, 2010-06-23 00:40
A woman goes into Discount Fishing Supplies to buy a rod and reel for her grandson's birthday.
She doesn't know which one to get, so she just picks one and goes over to the counter.
The salesman is standing there, wearing dark shades.
She says, "Excuse me. Can you tell me anything about this rod and reel?"
He says, "Madam, I'm completely blind; but if you'll drop it on the counter,
I can tell you everything you need to know about it from the sound it makes."
She doesn't believe him but drops it on the counter anyway.
He says, "That's a six-foot Shakespeare graphite rod with a Zebco 404 reel and 10-lb.Test line. It's a good all around combination, and it's actually on sale this week for $44."
She says, "That's amazing that you can tell all that, just by the sound of it dropping on the counter. I'll take it!"
As she opens her purse, her credit card drops on the floor.
"Oh, that sounds like a Visa card," he says.
As the lady bends down to pick up the card, she accidentally farts.
At first she's really embarrassed, but then realises there is no way
the blind salesman would tell exactly who had farted.
The man rings up the sale and says, "That'll be $58.50 please."
The woman is totally confused by this and asks,
"Didn't you tell me it was on sale for $44. How did you get $58.50?"
"The Duck Caller is $11, and the Fish Bait is $3.50."

Removing a boat from trailer (big not tinny)
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Mon, 2010-06-21 06:34just curious as to how do you take your boat off the trailer so you can work on the trailer so you dont need to bend in all sorts of wierd ways . Im talking about a boat from say 16 foot and up. I did some work on my trailer a while back and it was very awkward getting right in under the boat to work on it. Taking into account alli and glass. i know with alli you could probably just pull the boat onto the ground and rest it on old tires but what about glass. I had thought about tying the back of the boat up to something solid and driving the trailer out from under it nd sitting it onto frames of some sort but then what happens if the frame gives way...........Any other ways it could be done without a crane to lift it straight up

trailer rust removal and prevention
Submitted by scottbec on Sun, 2010-06-20 17:38Hi Guys,
Just wondering if anyone has any tips on what you use to remove any rust and to avoid any rust build up on your boat trailers. I have heard of using 50:50 mixes of turps and linseed oil, or fish oil... but was wondering if anyone has any other methods.
Or if you use any off the shelf products, what do you recomend???
How often do you guys spray your trailer parts with this sort of stuff???
Cheers,
Scott

O K guys and girls. Here is a Question for you all
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Fri, 2010-06-18 23:06I have just had my boat looked at by a boat repair and sales yard in Belmont .I asked them to look at the leg as there is some grinding noises coming from it as well as looking at the carby to see if they could help with the flat spot when taking off. They found that the noise was coming from the gymbal bearing and the uni joint was u/s (their words).as far as the carby goes they said that the whole motor set up was illegal as its a car motor and a normal car carby as well as car engine parts on it, plus said that we need to replace the whole motor. they wouldnt work on it anyway as its over 5 years old. So here are the facts. Yes the motor is a 350 chev . yes it does run a standard carby , fuel pump/filter, water pump and other standard motor bits and thats where it stops as the motor has all the correct cooling (heat exchanger) , exhaust set up and had been set up to run in a boat by Chev Power when we bought it. Since then we have had the boat surveyed (motor, leg and hull) for insurance purposes and nothing has been said by anyone in regards to being illegal. We have had the boat now for 5 years and i feel if it was illegal we would have known by now..................The question for you all is, Is there a legal and illegal way to set up this motor in a boat , taking into account the motor was put into the boat by a top class marine mechanic after Chev Power set the motor up for marine use. let us know either way. not going to change it because 1 mechanic said so , just curious on others thoughts about it
