75 series ute for sale
Submitted by Silver Fox on Wed, 2020-11-11 17:47It's a sad day people.
I can't work out how to get this in the for sale section.... Please excuse this being where it is.
After 16 wonderful years my ute has to go due to the upcoming move to Thursday Island. If I wasn't moving there I wouldn't even be consider selling her.
Shes been a great bus and has never left me stranded on the side of the road or anywhere for that matter. She's taken me all over Australia and I've had some awesome trips and memories provided by her.
1992 model with 294000ks on the clock, it's done 120000 since I've had her. Has been religiously serviced every 10000ks.
Safari snorkel, manta extractors and 2.5 inch system. Dual batteries with a Redarc controller.
Tekonsha electric brake controller.
Upgraded beefier Pedders suspension with air baggies in the back = no sagging ass when you're towing.
Four brand new split rim tyres ( less than 100k on em)
Front end suspension has just been rebuilt to get rid of the Landcruiser death wobble, front wheel bearings repacked. New rear axle seals, bearings repacked. Front end is good for next 100000ks.
Fresh paint on the bonnet and roof, the rest is still original. Has been polished and looks the goods.
Ally bar and side steps. Tow ball on front of car, perfect for beach launching.
Banging Alpine stereo and Jbl 6x9 speakers. ( note, as I'm older and my ears are wiser it doesn't bang that much these days...:)
There's even carpet in the cab, comes with complete new carpet for front still in packaging. Old carpet is still good.
2450mm ally tray from Unicorn Transport with a flexiglass canopy on the back. Engel plug and 12v plugs on the inside.
Dual 90 litre diesel tanks. 60 litre stainless steel water tank. Will come with a 300 litre tool box and assorted recovery gear, high lift jack etc. I'll even chuck in the hand cleaner behind the passengers seat....
15k or thereabouts will seal the deal.
The aircon needs replacing as the compressor is shot. I've been quoted $1500 and price is negotiable.
Pm me for pictures.
Located in Carnarvon can be delivered to Perth metro.

Biden/Trump
Submitted by timboon on Wed, 2020-11-04 19:14Well things are close over there by the sounds of it.
It sounds like tensions are rising, some fearing civil war.
It's strange isn't it.
A democratic society, people voted and there should be a winner.
But like a school yard bully, if he wins he'll be gracious in victory, if he loses, batton down the hatches people.
What a fucking lunatic.
Looks like Biden might win the vote but we'll see what the be eventual outcome is.

Trade period 2020
Submitted by timboon on Mon, 2020-11-02 21:06Well there are lots of good names out there getting turfed out of their clubs and plenty others that want to go elsewhere...
Good on GWS for matching the Jezza Cameron deal, that puts a cat amongst the pigeons ( punn intended ), would have been good if GC did the same when Lynch wanted out!
Sounds like -
Zac Williams to Blues for pick 10 compo
Ben Brown to the Dees
Hogan has plenty of interest even Richmond wanting a piece of the prize recruit
Treloar is being told to fuck off from the Pies but not wanting to budge - getting treated like shit from all acounts!!
Saints and Adelaide is interesting with Crouch, Adelaide wanted pick 2 becuase compensation would have been 23 so they've also matched the offer.
Its a boring time of year sport wise, I don't enjoy listening to the chics cricket on the radio so any footy news is welcomed...

What’s the best grease / lube?
Submitted by scano on Mon, 2020-11-02 19:47Keen to know what everyone who does their own reel servicing uses nowadays for reel grease? it's mainly on mid to high end reels (talica's, saragosa's, tyrnos, tiagra's. Etc). Currently using either Wilson reel lube, or inox mx6 grease. This is mainly for gears and internal moving parts like shafts and ratchet assemblies. I obviously use oil or very light grease / oil mix on bearings, but let me know what is good in the current day and age on gear sets for overhead and game reels.
cheers

12 months in the making Electric Alvey reels
Submitted by Alpha on Sun, 2020-11-01 17:39
Thought I would share my latest creation's.
Finaly finished making my Electric Alvey Reels. Its been 12 months since I started this journey, after seeing them on the net while waiting to get on a plane to Canada last year.
Once I'd seen it ,I thought I've got 2 of those reels at home that I don't use and thought I'll make that....and here we are.
Now all I have to do is find the fish, which I think might be harder than making my own reels.

Zinc Anodes
Submitted by timboon on Mon, 2020-10-26 10:54Fellas I'm chasing some bulk anodes.
Not going to be used for marine use but I'm assuming somewhere that deals in marine will be the best place to buy them.
Ideally looking for something around about a can size and shape but thats not essential.
If you fellas have seen someone that supplies or perhaps someone here might work somewhere that sells them please let me know.
Cheers in advance....

Caribbean 2300 total weight?
Submitted by Quobbarockhopper on Sun, 2020-10-25 07:27Hi all
Finally time to seriously start looking at a new tub and while theres a few Im considering, top of both the budget and wish list is a 2300. Like most of the boats in that size range, 3.5T towing is a major concern. Hard to find much reliable info and know theres a lot of variables that go into it (size/weight of engine, how much gear, eskies etc etc). Only half decent summary I could find online is:
Hull Weight: 1,550 kg not including engine
Trailer Tare (tow weight) Mackay Alloy: 490 kg

Recent rescues
Submitted by carnarvonite on Wed, 2020-10-21 09:48Had a phone call from Amsa in Canberra yesterday morning asking about where people lauch boats from in our area as an epirb was going off half way across to Faure Island. Seem a bloke had gone fishing, given no area he was going and no fixed time of return and had tipped his dinghy over and set off the epirb. Luckily he had a lifejacket on.
Spoke to Commander of Shark Bay sea rescue last night, he said they found him ok and got him back safely but they had another worse one 3 weeks back where 3 blokes tipped there dinghy over while trying to reurn from Useless Loop in 20+ knot wind and lost their jackets when the boat went over.
Seems to be some people do not take notice of weather reports for the area or think it doesn't involve them, either way both instances make it hard for the vollies who donate their time to go and rescue them alive because it is not a fun thing to pull bodies from the water I can tell you., been there done that.

Craypot capstan winch wiring advice
Submitted by sea-kem on Sat, 2020-10-17 07:29Ok the time has come where I'm done with manual handling of pots and am installing a tipper and winch on the boat. I've picked up a second hand capstan winch and foot switch. Just looking for the best way to wire it. I'm guessing foot switch straight to the isolator? Any advice appreciated.

Am I having a winge for nothing? re: purchase of new outboard (not fishing related)
Submitted by beeroclock on Wed, 2020-10-14 15:26Now the bans on I thought I would post up a situation ive had recently and tell me if im carrying on about nothing or if u think it is an issue (don't be too brutal though! ha ha). Went to my local Yamaha dealer (not Chivers marine, our site sponsor) to buy a brand new (brand new is the key word here!) 250 Yamaha 4 st to re-power a boat im doing up pretty much from scratch ie everything replaced brand new from nuts/bolts, paint to electronics to seats - everything, only original thing is hull. I go in to dealership, sales rep busy so I wander around and happen to see a 2019 250hp 4st Yamaha on the back of a new boat, display boat in showroom. I get hold of sales rep tell him what I want and we go into office to do paperwork and give deposit. First thing I say is I want a 2020 model delivered and put on my boat straight out of the crate, he tells me not possible to get a 2020 model yet, can only get a 2019 (I find that hard to believe - its nearly the end of 2020) he goes on to tell me that when he bought a new motor it was from the year before as well that's just how it is. I say ok but I want a new one straight out of crate onto my boat and im in no hurry coz my boat wont be ready till just after Christmas im guessing - he says no problem. Paperwork done, payment done - I go feeling very pleased. A few days later I was thinking id get them to put a fuel/water separator on for me when they fit up the motor. I call him to organise it and he says no problem you can even bring your boat in right now if you want coz you can have the motor that's on the back of the display boat. I actually laughed, I honestly thought he was joking, long pause on his end then he says yeh only have to undo the two bolts holding it on and its your. I saw red at first, took a breathe and said I don't want that motor coz I didn't order it and you agreed I'd get one straight out of crate and put on my boat. He said it did come straight out of a crate and was put on boat as display about 2 months ago and never been started. Im whinging for the below reasons:
1) I still don't believe that it is not possible to get a 2020 model at this time of year
2) In hindsight I never had a chance at getting a 2020 model coz he was never gonna order one
3) He had obviously decided I was having the one in the showroom at the time of the deal and didn't tell me (that really fuckn pissed me off)
4) He says motor put on display boat 2 months ago and never been started - i pretty much don't believe a word he says by now
OK that's my whinge over, If you spent 30 odd grand on a new motor, and the above happened to you what would you think about it. Am i whinging for nothing?
Cheers Dave

The Len Hunt for sale
Submitted by sea-kem on Tue, 2020-10-13 21:02Have just seen the Len Hunt for sale on Boat sales. No Doubt you had a few adventures on this old girl Carnarvonite? If I won lotto this would be a project for me to bring back to pristine condition. I love the old Penguine hulls, indestructable imo. This boat is a cracker, plenty of deck and internal cabin space.
