East Coast Bills

Myself and a mate wrer lucky enough to get on a boat - 37 Riv and fish the NSW Game Fish Interclub Tournament out of Port Stephens. The whole crew including the skipper were all rookies having never caught a billfish of any description so we were all pumped to get into some fish.

Final result Day 1 Tag & Rlease of a Shortbilled Spearfish taken on trolled skirt purple on 8 KG line class est.weight 25- 30 KG

Day 2 Tag  & Release of a Blue Marlin taken on skip bait slimy mackeral on 15 KG lineclass est.weight 150KG

                 Day 3  Cancelled Bad Weather

Day 4 Tag & Release of another Shortbilled Spearfish taken on trolled skirt purple on 8 KG lineclass est weight 25-30 KG

If we had killed either of the Spearfish and weighed them would likely have been a record as the record is  26.5 on 8KG

Although other boats in the fleet of 176 boats caught more fish and some less we were all stoked about catching our first bills and watching them swim away again !

Good luck to all you guys chasing those West Coast Bills over the coming weeks

Beach fishing of Wonnerup/Peppi

I'm thinking about having a crack at Wonnerup or Peppi beach, has anyone got any latest catch reports?

Quobba report and photo's from long w.e

Another long weekend means another fishing trip.

My mates and i went to quobba.

Not the best weather but we still managed to fish all day for the 3 days there.

The first two days were spent spinning slices for macks at various spots but we only managed a few small sharkies and little spaniards.

The first good fish of the trip was the tuna  that was hooked casting a soft plastics on a 3000 reel and 7ft rod darda had no chance of getting it in before the sharks came.

We ended up losing a few fish to some big sharks.

We had a ball using light gear and small poppers, stickbaits, slices and plastics catching little trevs and queenies.

With only southerly blowing the whole trip and no luck on slices visit decided to send out a balloon and with in a minute and 10 metres from the ledge his gardie got nailed resulting in a 17kg spaniard.

Hope ya like the photos.

5 Angry Sails and a Blue Marlin March 7 Costa Rica Report with pics

March 7

Had an awesome day out onthe water today! We had a nice couple from California out, and man were the sailfish and Marlin thick. We started the day off with a really big sailfish, seen below, and another mid sized sailfish. Good start, but we had no idea what was next.
About 10 in the morning, we had a really nice blue Marlin, around 300 pounds, come up behind our right diasy chain teaser. We just made a new daisy chain out of 6 green squids, 1 pink one, and then Islander large jet head pink chaser with a ballyhoo stuffed up inside of it. The Marlin fell completely in love with the Daisy Chain and chased it all the way to the boat. We are running the outriggers a little bit lower as the water has been flat calm, and because of that the daisy chain can't be taken out of the water without lifting up the outrigger. So here I am reeling desperately to get the teaser away from the fish, Marlin biting the tail of the chaser, eating the ballyhoo in the process. As the clip hits the rigger and I quickly grab the rigger and pull it up. The angry Marlin is right next to the boat, about three feet away, as Mike tosses out an islander and hits the marlin in the head with the pitch bait. He's not interested. As he goes down, he must have seen the short teaser on the other side which is another daisy chain, this one pink, with a black islander chaser. He decides that would work for him as well, so he nails it before I can get it out of the way. After taking off half the spool from the teaser reel, and again eating the ballyhoo in the chaser, he lets go for a second as he turns for another hit. I pull and pull and pull and then jerk up the outrigger and he is right there under it again, looking up at it, and me, mad I took away what he wanted! It was an awesome sight, 300 pounds of pure excitment, big fins lit up bright blue and that big eye looking up at you! Again, mike hits him with a naked ballyhoo but he's not interested in that pitchbait either. He aparently only wanted those teasers and so he swims away. On the way out through the back of the spread, he slashes one of the naked ballyhoo's on the long rigger, taking about 10 yards of line and leaving a just the head.
We are a little disappointed at the loss, but like anything else, you have to keep trying if you want to get the big one! We put the lures back out in the water, and about 30 minutes goes by. I am mesmerized, just watching the teasers ducking, bubbling, popping up for some more air, when I see a purple shadow below the right daisy chain again. I scream out to Mike, but notice he already has the long left bait pole in his hand and is giving somebody freespool so they can eat. Then it comes, bam the big Marlin under my teaser pops up his head and slams the teaser. I pull and pull and I'm screaming Mike, get a pitch bait out now!!! I see Mike's brother, our mate in training, running and throwing out the pitchbait, and I scream, "Where's Mike?!?!?"! Looking over at the other side of the boat, I see Mike with a bent pole and he's yelling "Stop, stop!!!". Not wanting to give up the Marlin, I let Jose throw out the pitch bait but the Marlin lit up blue goes for the other side. Seeing the pole that Mike had getting about half way down through the spool, I give Jose one last chance. He throws out the pitchbait on the other side, as I pull the teaser in to the boat, i see the pole he has get bent all the way down and bang, pops back up. No hook up, we stop and then have a sailfish dancing about 400 yards behind the boat. Nice, big sailfish, but we all have got the Marlin fever bad at this point.
I call out to another boat over the radio, Jerry with the Cowboy, to let him know our saga, and he starts harassing me saying I had a spinner dolphin behind the teaser or maybe it was a sailfish. The usual ribbing you get from another captain after seeing a huge blue but not having it bite. By 2 oclock, we had a great day, we had released 5 sailfish, including the double above but were going for a little more to beat Jerry. Jerry, the captain of the Cowboy, had 6 releases to our 5, and I don't like coming in second! So we are trolling along about 100 yards apart, he's harassing me on the radio, letting me know he's up one and then, to my horror, I see his mate run to the back of his boat and throw out the pitch bait! Oh no, I think, he's going to be two up! Sure enough, Jerry works his teaser magic, and soon I see a happy customer, reel in hand, and another dancing sailfish behind the Cowboy! Here it comes I think, as I hear his voice over the radio, "Gringo, 7 to 5, I win!" I'm thinking, "dang, no way", but I remember that it's not over yet. About that time, I saw a big shadow under that right daisy chain teaser. Knowing that the Marlin have been in love with that all day, I start yelling to throw out the pitchbait and I pull that teaser up as fast as I can! Mike throws out the blue / yellow islander ballyhoo combo pitchbait and CRASH!!!?!
We have a huge hookup on the 50 wide, line whirring, I'm pulling up the right outrigger and latching it in as fast as I can. I look down and see the spool half empty! Only 450 yards left I think to myself. Mike's yelling, "Go!!! Go!!!" as I turn the boat hard right, and hit the gas full throttle. I look down and now we are to the backing on the reel, only 200 yards left! I notice on the other side of Jerry's boat, about 600 yards away, there is a huge blue marlin, tailwalking as fast as he can away from my boat. I go down on him full speed, right past Jerry (sweet victory:) ), and finally, the boat gets up to the same speed as the fish, and although we don't gain line, we finally quit losing it! Talk about a rush, this is every angler's dream! Everybody is yelling, Jerry's screaming over the radio, "faster faster, Gringo, go get him!" customer is yelling, "Reel's almost out!" the Cummins is roaring at redline and maybe (probably) a bit more, everybody doing their part to catch up with that fish!!! With about 100 yards to spare, reel smoking hot, we finally start gaining line, customer reeling as fast as he can, making up tons of distance and the fight is on! Mostly the fish wins the next couple of battles, but every once in a while, we get a little back. After a while, I start noticing one by one, the Quepos fleet all headed my way, everyone circling, jealous! :) With one proud angler on the reel out back, and tons of other envious anglers in other boats snapping pictures, waiting for the next jump, we finally get the fish up to the leader and the fish is officially released. Wanting to get it in closer for the picture, Mike goes to bring it up to the side of the boat, but the 13 foot long Blue Marlin was having none of that as he slashed his head left and right, right next to the boat. The line goes limp and we all watch as he slowly goes back down into the deep crystal clear blue water. Officially released, but never surrendering, he goes back down to get ready to fight another day. What a great time, what a day!

Heading to Moreton Is

Going to moreton for a 4 day fishing trip, anyone been over there recently, if so, what was biting and where?

Rod Advice

Looking for a new rod to suite an Accurate 665HXM loaded with 700m of 50lb braid.

Have had a look at the Saltiga Deep Jig rods (30-60lb) and they seem nice. Anyone recommend anything for around the same price, or what these rods are like?

Also, anyone had experience with Van Staal rods?

no macks, but plenty of tuna behind the 3 mile

hey guys,

well it was drama drama drama today, even before we got to the ramp. this was the first time weve been out for about 2 months and since then weve had a new driveway put down. we were at the top of the drive when we heard a loud scrape and dad slammed on the brakes. the front keel support adjustment part on the trailor that hung down about 20mm was chewing up the new concrete, so out came the angle grinder and in a matter of minutes the trailer was circumsized and we were on our way.

when we got to ocean reef we had realised seabreeze lied to us again... not happy. it was a tonne windier then 10knots and looked rough out there, so we made the decision to troll behind the 3 mile and get some tuna for tea.

once we were out we were definately feeling the sea in the 485 trailcraft but we soldiered on as the reason of the trip was to check out the new pair of hds units we purchased before we make the treck to shark bay in april.

once we were behind the reef and in about 26m of water we threw the lures out, with dad driving and me on decky duties i made the call to go mono trace as there werent too many reports of macks at 3mile and the tuna reports were buzzing all over the new sounder.

after about 20 minutes of trolling dads 10kg overhead combo started shooting off, once again the 190DD in chrome pink was on fire and pulled up a nice 6kg SBT, which meant dinner was in the bag. (sorry about the crap pic, mum was on the camera)

as the weather wasnt getting any better we decided to troll back and call it a day, when dads reel started screaming again, and yes the 190DD is still my fav tuna lure. this one wasnt as big, but had way more power!

we still had the lures out when we passed a 4ft hammerhead just cruising by, which was a cool sight, no pics as we were all doing the awww stare. so we left the ramp at about 9:00 and got back about 11:00, which made it a nice and chill sesh.

no trouble getting our freshly circumsized trailor down the drive and its was a breeze getting the boat in the new shed.

we had a great day, even though it was 2-0 to the old man and hope to get out next weekend as the 2 month brake was way too long.

cheers rob.

ps how did everyone else fair today?

BIG PINK

Caught this 12.5kg pinky when out last week out from hillarys in 30m of water.
Ended up with 2 baldies and a dhuie to round out the day, Best fish ive caught.
They were all caught using mulies on snelled hooks with a octojig or snapper lead
on the bottom. Good way to break in the new jigrex rod.

Things are on the mend - Exmouth

Well after some pretty lean pickings due to horrid weather over the past few weeks, things seem to be on the mend with the fishing starting to pick up.

Even though we didn't get a hell of a lot today, you can just feel that its not far off getting good.  Got to Bundegi this morning and was greeted by 2kg GT's smashing the hardies, moved over to the Islands and got a nice 70cm trout, a Rankin, a Spango and a few other oddities.  (Lucky and Merman did it tough on plastic and jigs for most of the day)  Having to get back early we decided to go for a quick dive on the otherside of the island which was still quite green in 4m, but better than what it has been and able to be dived, but not easily.

Heading back in we found masses upon masses of mack tuna going off, hopefully they stay in the gulf for a while and we have the awesome sessions on them like we did last year.  If sheer volume of fish and today is anything to go by, then we should have some excellent options coming up.  Back at the ramp one local guy had been getting a few jacks, queenies patrolling the shallows and large schools of yellowfin whiting all looking hungry.  There also has been some other news floating around of things happening in the gulf, but thats just secret squirrels for now, nothing you Perth guys would be interested in anyway. ;)

The weather is forecast to go crap again for the next week, but once it clears up, Lucky and I will be giving the billies a red hot go and I would be expecting some action!

Cheers,

Adam

Here's a pic of today's trout and why the gulf was and has been stirred up for so long.

Exxy beach mission

hi all i went down to one of the local beaches for a tea gathering mission this morning, was the for about 2 hours and managed 2 good spangs and lost about 5 ,so mission was a success, sweet and sour spango for tea to night

Bluefin and Stripey Tuna, Spanish Mackerel between the Capes

Took a crew out today off Gracetown.  We trolled on the way out to the fishing ground as we had heard the extreme water temperatures (26.8 degrees in some spots) were producing good pelagic activity.  Had 2 stripey tuna and a 10kg bluefin tuna on board before 8am.  Ended up with 5 dhufish, 6 breaksea cod, 1 nannygai, 1 swallowtail nannygai and a big whiskery shark.

We have been commercially fishing out deep (more than 25 miles out) in the past week or so and there is bird activity from the beach right through, heaps of tide lines - we have never seen so many different tide lines in different depths.

When we got in, a 14ft zodiac had 2 spanish mackerel onboard (we saw them) - he said he got them about 400m north of Gracetown in 20m of water.  We know of another guy who saw quite a few and speared one last week in the 20 to 14 metre rises between Gracetown and Guillotines.

If you have ever wanted to catch a mackerel between the Capes, put the effort in and there is a fair chance you will be rewarded.

4 Day Benda... Trout Anyone?

Gday Crew,

I havent posted any of our fishing trips on here before but i love this site and love the reports and comments that everyone puts up. We head out most R&R's we are back pending weather and do alright. My partner and I are very keen fisherman

First drop for bagafillets 630mm Trout

Was nice to get some decent weather for R&R for once so managed to get out and hit a couple of spots and get a keeper or 2

First day we headed straight out of the mariner, second day we headed south, third day we headed north and the fourth just outside the shipping channel

These are some photos over the days, bagged out on trout everyday and caught and release alot more (must be the warmer water) but they were everywhere.

All fish were picked up on plastics and lures

Then another...

Second days first drop... another 600mm... yep mines coming, by this time i was red with envy... and told him wasnt allowed to fish anymore!! LOL

My first for the day, on the trawl... not a big one but a keeper

So this is the start of the 3rd day, i was winjing that i was a couple of days a darker shade of brown but the fish were on the bite and guess what? His first drop for the day, produces a nice little baldie

Mine, but not as big...

Give the Stella FE and Tournament Master Z a good work out

My biggest for the weekend, finally... Not sure about the rod in the mouth shot tho

Last one for the day, time to head home

After a fun few days, get back to the ramp and think oh no... Poor guys!!!

4th Day, its absolutely cranking from the NE and it was S#$T!!! Cause we had such a good day at our northern spot we were going to head out there agian, but cause it was so rough we thought why not trawl on our way and hopefully by the time the weather drops we'd be there, so other half is setting the spread, my rod first... then his rod... and hey, that'd be right... not even 20m into it, his rod gets a hit... Look what it is...

After getting this we decided to head in... other half had a fix out job to do... mind you on his week off! But got out again that arvo

We decided to hit the same area again, this ground gets a bit of a hammering but obviously the fish are there but there had been a few small tuna and mackies caught in the same area so we went out in search of them

One of the tuna we got

and one of the small mackies

Bit of an over kill but our new combos wanted first blood, i got a Stella 8000SW with the Live Fibre Venom or alternative Smiths Offshore Stick; the other halfs Saltiga 20/10 5000H on a very blinged up... Spartan or the alternative AZUZA. Thanks to Pete, Tim and Tyson at Bluewater Tackle Morley and Brian at Complete Angler for your assistance, always do the righty by us everytime we are down.

These combos are for our Mackies trip at the start of April, I know there will be a few crew there, hopefully get to meet some Fishwreck crew there to exchange some fishy tales over a couple of quiet beers

Cheers crew, Happy Fishing

North Mole Tonight

HEADING DOWN TO NORTH MOLE TONIGHT FOR SOME BALLOONING. AND SOME TAILOR. COME SAY HI IF ANY OF U PEOPLE ARE DOWN THERE.

Heading to dunsborough for a weekend fish, anyone know whats on the bite?

Hey guys, im takin advantage of this week's long weekend and decided to head down to Dunsborough with my boat, a couple mates and the esky full of grog.

I've done plenty land based fishing in my time in Dunsborough, but this will be the first time taking a boat, I was hoping anyone out there with offshore knowledge could help me out in finding some decent fish.

Any information will be greatly appreciated. I'm actually heading back out there for the Easter break, so this weekend is just to suss it out. I am familiar with the beach ramp in Quindalup and Also the ramp at Canal Rocks.

I have fished off these ramps and have seen many boats return with laods of fish, I wouldn't mind getting into some of that action!

Cheers in advance

No Fishing !!! No Life !!! By BKKGUY

Can't think of anything if there is no fishing for me.
Love my life !!! Love my works !!! God Bless !!!

I managed to squeeze in 1 free day , in my rather tight fishing schedule ,to have a leisure fishing myself. First is ease my fishing itch and secondly is to test out some of my lures. ;)

My favorite pastime fishing is none other the Giant Snakehead (toman) of Thailand. Pound by pound is one of  the strongest freshwater fish of all. Some call it the ' torpedo fish' of asia. The initial run is the strongest especially when you land the snakehead on lure.

Thailand  snakehead is famous for their ferious and strong fights. it has a longer body than other region snakeheads.

This month is not the toman fishing season but who cares. As long I 've a day break for my own leisure fishing, I'm more than happy.

Enjoys the rest of the catch report...

Music vid clip for easy viewing purpose.. ;)

My big catch of the day- A whoppy 5.21 KG toman landed on my rapala risto lure. ;)

Two rocks on Saturday

left two rocks at 5 on sat morning weather was looking awesome as we where out at a spot in no time at all. first spot got nothing no fish on the sounder and no bites after a few drifts and a very strong northerly current, headed to another mark, this looked better fish up off the bottom and a nice weedy rocky bottom.

first drop we both hooked up 2 nice dhuies on the boat a 4kg and a 6kg next drift had a 8kg and a nice skippy on the boat and last drift produced a nice 13kg one and a nice pinky dropped, the 4 and the 13 where kept with the rest released to fight another day, ok bugger its 7:20 and where bagged out, headed into shallower water to try for some kg,s in 28m but none there yet must still be to early. after a bit decided the ramp might be not so busy so we decided to head in. back at the ramp by 9:30. awesome day on the water.

Friday FAD session

Headed out frid for a fish at Yamaha fad and then a troll around for billies.

Upon approaching the fad i saw a fair few dollies free jumping, and with no other boat there except for a big game boat heading over the fad was empty, rigged up with a cut mulie and drifted past dropping a few pieces into the water, was only a matter of seconds for the first hit, jumping out the water they were everywhere, unfortuantly not big fish, but i kept 1 for a feed and released a heap to about 80cm, alot of fun on the light gear, left them biting and set up for a troll out deep to the 500m mark, very warm water out there upto 27.1 c heaps of tuna schools, did have one hit on a big pakula lumo skirt on 24kg with took line for abour 2 to 3 seconds, didnt see anything but that was it, heading back to freo at 6pm doing 35knots all the way back in, very pleasant day on the water.

no pics due to being on my own

Mindarie Report, Warm Water Effecting Things?

Hey guys.

Me and my uncle went out from Mindarie the other day. We went to 30m first getting wrass, sargant baker, alot of small flathead, one was 3 inches, and i thought it would be an idea him being small to grab him with my hands, as i was releasing him, he got me. And wow, i didnt think they hurt that much. First 5 minutes was insane pain. then it calmed down. Wanted to try the belly rub trick but i dropped him back in.

Anyway, we drifted around 30 to 36 meters then i suggested we went into 26 but just no whiting, last 3 times we have been out we have no got one. One this that was weird is we where drifting a sand patch around 26m and my line took off, i pulled up a 2.5kg Black Ass? Was released but was weird to catch. We then went into 3 mile with 6-7m of water over the reef, one drop my line took off straight away spooling like mad, the spool was tight aswell.....i have never felt anything pull like that, then it snapped off? Any ideas? Also does the 3 mile reef ever hold anything but wrass? Is it worth doing alot of drifting there or throwing in some burley?
Boat was telling us the water was 27 degrees. The reason for no whiting? They have moved south to cooler water?

I guess the main thing in all of this is. Use a rag you idiot like your uncle said when you grab a Flathead!

Saturday - trolling behind rotto

With the good weather on the weekend, me, like many others, decided to head out and drag a few lures around.

Launched from Woodies around 615 and was busy there, but still got out in around 15 minutes (so with the Rotto swim on, could have been worse).

Was taking a mate from Kenya out for his first off shore trip in Perth, so was hoping to be able to turn on the fish. We were heading to an area which has been productive for us before out near the southern barges on the way to the Club Marine FAD. When we were almost there, I saw some birds hitting the water and told the boys to set the spread.

We were trolling a spread of 4 skirts with a mix of Williamson Dorados and Richter Jelly Babes, along with a newly improvised home made teaser. As we got closer and I could see the fish busting up we knew it was on.

First pass we had a triple hookup, one fish dropped but two solid stripeys to the boat. This then set the scene for the day, there were schools everywhere out there, and we would never have to try more than 15 mins before getting back on the fish, with double and triple hookups being common (kept trying for the quad, but never got there, probably just as well with 3 anglers on the boat). We were getting a mix of good sized stripeys, a couple of good sized SBTs and quite a lot of rat SBTs.

At one point I was resetting the spread and something grabbed the lure before it was even in position. Saw the fish leap straight out of the water, and I knew I had hooked my first metro dolly. After a few more acrobatics and a bit of manhandling, we managed to get the fish on board for a quick pic before releasing.

Over the course of probably 2 hours trolling we boated around 15-18 tuna and the dolly, before we decided to head in to Majorie bay at rotto for a swim and beer to cool off. Could have caught stacks more out there but the cold water was calling us.

After the swim, spent a couple of hours trolling the makkie lures off cathedral rocks and the back of the FFB on the way home, but no takers.

All fish except for 2 tuna for my Kenyan buddy were released well.

 Dan

Friday's fishing - FADs, Five Hundreds and a little bit more

I'd been watching Seabreeze all week hoping that the weather on Friday was going to stay as good as it was looking.  By Wednesday things were still looking sweet so I put a post in the Fishing Buddies section and hooked up a trip for the day with southcity104.  The plan was simple - hit the FADs early, then go deep hunting hapuka. I couldn't argue with that.

Friday morning came around too quickly and at 3.30am the alarm went off.  By 4.10am I was at Tony's place and we were on the water by 4.30am.  That's the earliest I've been up for a long time let me tell you.

The weather wasn't too bad but the easterly was blowing a bit and gave us a bit of chop on the way out but we knew things were going to calm down in the arvo so we weren't too fussed.  We were the first boat to get out to the Freo Sailing Club FAD and soon had two skirts rigged up for a run past.  The first run nothing happened, and the sun was a bit too low to be able to see if anything was hanging below so we turned around and did another run.  On that second run the skirts had just got past the FAD when Tony's Accurate started singing and looking back to see what was happening we saw a good sized mahi mahi cartwheeling across the surface.  Woohoo - off to a great start.  I killed the engine and brought in the other lure while Tony brought in our first fish for the day.  Once the fish was photographed and dispatched we went back and did a few drifts past dropping down placcies and a few different hardbodies but nothing was interested.

We decided to move on and started heading out to a couple of deep water spots.  We put the big skirts out the back while we scooted out and picked up a small stripey but nothing else for our troubles.  Hitting the deep was interesting for me as I've never done it before.  This sort of fishing is Star Trek fishing, it's the next frontier hey.  The rigs are made up of king-size 16/0 circle hooks, 200lb leader, massive three-way swivels and lead weighing more than a small child.  We did a number of drops from 250m to 500m but today wasn't going to be the day for this sort of fishing.  For the first few drops there was action on Tony's new Furuno but they weren't interested in what we were sending down.  When we got to the deeper water the sounder started playing up and we couldn't use it any more so we took a punt that we were on the right spots and dropped baits down.  End result - green eyed sharks.

After a while it was time to head back to the 'shallows' and we ended up at the Derwent.  A couple of old boys were there who said they'd pulled a few nice nannys and a 1.4m mulloway off the wreck, but there was no action on their boat while we were there.  Anyway it didn't take long before the electric reel went off which I made the mistake of grabbing and subsequently ended up having a 25-minute dispute with a 5-6ft whaler.  Eventually I got him up to the side so Tony could cut him off... it was good fun but hard yakka on such a hot day.  We dropped some jigs for a while which resulted in me getting an SBT on a fast retrieve to the surface.  After seeing a couple of tuna schools off in the distance we thought we'd start cubing some mulies to see if we could entice the tuna over to the boat, or at least closer to the boat.  What ended up happening was two 5-6ft whalers came in and just started loafing around the boat eating the fish cubes as they went down.  The sea had glassed off a bit by now so it was wild watching these fantastic creatures chillin out around us.  I put the camera under the water and got some good pics and footage of them doing their thing.

We decided it was time to head back to the ramp via the FSC FAD again.  As we got close to the FAD we put a spread of skirts out and started to drive by, but when we got to the FAD both of us looked down to see a dollie lazily swimming along, not at all fussed by the boat.  So we killed the motor, pulled in the skirts, and threw out a handful of cubed mulies that were sitting on the baitboard.  At the same time Tony grabbed his fly rod and sent a fly into the water.  Before we knew it we had half a dozen dollies schooled up around the back of the boat eating the mulie cubes.  Tony then hooked up and after a fun fight with a full aerial display, left the fish in the water while I threw out a jig head with a chunk of fish on it.  Two seconds later I was on with my fish splashing across the surface.  After some photos we started burleying up again but by this time the mutton birds had figured out what was going on and were nailing every piece of fish in the water... and then followed a procession of boats coming in to try their luck so we packed up and headed in.  We scored another small stripey on the way in just to top things off.

It was a ripper day on the water, a bit slow going with the fish but we still got onto some good ones but also experienced some of mother nature's finest...
