Abrolhos Run
Submitted by Robpado on Sat, 2018-06-16 21:47G’day guys, scoping out the weather for the end of the week and have spied a possible window to shoot to the Abrolhos Friday afternoon for a night or 2. For the guys that frequent the place can anyone advise a good anchorage in the southern area.
Trip will depend on the swell dropping out as forecast and the wind playing the game also, although not been out to the Abrolhos before we are experienced in long range trips and offshore boating. We will be in a bar Crusher.
Any local knoledge will be appreciated
cheers
Big Johns Jigheads get the goods
Submitted by Jackalchub on Sat, 2018-06-16 15:14With my local tackle store out of 5oz owner jig heads.. I gave Big Johns a go - Hooks are solid.. love the heavier jig heads.. pretty rare find at a good price. Had a solid day over the new moon.. released lots of dhus including one over a meter estimated at 17 kegs.. Can’t recommend Big John enough.
Few questions,
Does anyone know where i can get a vent right? I’ve contacted him twice directly but haven’t had a response.
Also, who do i talk to in regards to getting involved in tagging dhufish.. would be nice to see a recapture one day
Thanks in advance for any advice on these subjects
Jim

Dunsborough Pinks
Submitted by Seaquest on Sat, 2018-06-16 10:43With all the reports of good catches of pinkies in geo bay lately I thought I'd give it a crack. We headed out yesterday mid morning. Plan was to squid until the bite time which was around 1.30pm. Managed to bag out on squid and then went out a bit further and anchored up. 15 minutes in and we got our first bite which resulted in a solid pink. Moments later we were on again and pulled in another pink around the same size. The next half an hour we managed four more. Ended up with our bag of six fish all around the 10kg mark. What a hot session, one we won't forget in a hurry.

Bloody north easterly’s
Submitted by Mitch1 on Fri, 2018-06-15 20:48Headed out off Hillary’s tonight for a snapper bash in some mint conditions! Unfortunately it was very quiet on the fish front with hardly even a bite, plenty of skippy in the burley trail but weren’t interested in any baits I had out. Anyone else have some luck tonight??
Cheers, Mitch

Bimini Treatment
Submitted by Glass Off on Fri, 2018-06-15 12:45G'Day All,
It was a glorious day out yesterday. Scored an awesome LAGO (Late Afternoon Glass Off) perfect to test the new boat.
Can any one let me know if there is a treatment for Bimini material.....mine is a little thin and I am wondering if there is some sort of rubberised spray-on goop that could be applied and extend the life of the material before it wears through. Or is it a simple case of when it wears out it's kaput?
Love Ya Work and tight lines.

North of Carnarvon
Submitted by Kelvinjr12 on Fri, 2018-06-15 09:21Heading to Carnarvon for the annual trip next week, with the new exclusion zone thinking of heading up the coast to Beajiling Shoals & Darwin Reef. Question? has anyone fished up that way & apart from keeping an eye on the swell is it worth the 30-40km trip, any hints on depths to be fishing & what we might catch. Last the channel in the fascine has it improved for access?? thnks Kelvin

Have tied to get the info from DoT but waste of time. Thought somebody on this forum might know.

Just how inefficient is the government?
Submitted by RobMeridian on Mon, 2018-06-11 10:26https://thewest.com.au/news/wa/wa-boaties-to-be-hit-by-fee-increases-in-the-thousands-of-dollars-as-part-of-governments-harbour-plan-ng-b88861141z
After 8 years with a trailer boat, we bought a boat needing a pen. Fees are currently over $8k.. + GST.
According to this, fees are set to increase by 10% plus inflation every year until they have more than doubled.
Fairly sure private organisations don't need nearly $20k per year to cover their costs providing a pen and power. Does anyone use a non-government mooring? - If so, how much for a 12m boat and do you have any spaces?!
Thanks!

Where to go? Exmouth locked in from 7th July!
Submitted by Darren253 on Mon, 2018-06-11 09:50SWMBO has granted permission for a boys fishing trip during the 3rd week of July after the school holidays...
We have another boat lined up ready to go to so it looks like it’s a go…
Now we need to decide where to go? I did Exmouth last year over new years and the fishing was pretty tough… We only really got to grips towards the last day of the trip but the wind was howling for 5 out of 8 days.
Exmouth? Coral Bay? Gnaraloo? Ningaloo? Others?
I’ve done Denham/Shark bay twice in the last 3 years so would rather venture a bit further… Coral Bay and Exy tick the easy box being well serviced with supplies/fuel/bakery & a several pubs…
My concern with Gnaraloo & Ningaloo would be the track conditions, my mate with boat no 2 is not known for his mechanical maintenance and the condition his trailer would be in if actually it got there. Whilst my trailer is new and pretty well built, it is also not spec’d for heavy dirt road use.
I’ve done Coral Bay 5 times in the past 10 years and love the place, however this would be my first real trip with a big boat… (3.7m tinny that I didn’t cross the passage with)
Thoughts/Suggestions?

Montebello trip.
Submitted by Roughas on Sun, 2018-06-10 16:15
Im seeking advice on a small boat trip to the Montes. I have a few question from those of you who've done the trip.
1. What's the best time of the year weather wise?
2. What's the best anchorage to give you good access to a variety of locations worth looking at for a variety of fishing styles.
3. What sort of distances do you reckon you'd clock up getting to these spots. Fuel is a limiting factor as I don't want to carry extra fuel that makes the trip (over) dangerous.
We allow ourselves approx 90 nm's out of out tank, which gives us a bit of a safety margin. I'd think 4 x 60ltr drums would be the most I'd want on deck, bearing in mind other stuff on board.
Oh yeah, boat is a 21 foot rebuilt Penguin, self draining deck.
Thanks in advance...........John
