Hi all, So the family and myself have come down to esperance for 3 weeks holidays over Xmas! Arrived today and almost settled ready to explore and find some fun fishing locations.Looking for spots I can take the wife and 3 young daughters (all 5 and under) to have some fun. Also looking for some spots for myself and father inlaw and brother inlaw for some adult fishing fun with the hope of something a bit bigger, maybe an overnighter or 2! Have tried the search function but it won’t work off my phone for some reason? I have a capable 4wd and good fishing knowledge. Just after a point in the right direction as this is my first time here. Also keen on a day or 2 out on the boat if anyone is looking for an experienced decky, obviously pay my way and very experienced on boat have all my my own gear and would love a decent fish for Xmas dinner! Thanks in advance for any replies and appreciate all your time. Thanks Adam and the family and merry Xmas to all

I'm not sure why I only found out yesterday about the marine sanctuaries that are proposed and said to be in place by winter 2018 down here off the capes.... Have you fellas on here been aware of the sanctuary zones? I asked the young lady when i came in at the ramp yesterday why they were being implemented and her response was to ensure sustainability for demersal species.... I suggested bag limits and closures already are in place to do this, she suggested extra measures were needed.... Its a fucking pox..... I'm not sure how they'll be enforcing them but i wont be paying attention to the imaginary line....

All, I want to bring your attention to a new webpage (www.wacoastline.org) produced by UWA in collaboration with the Peron Naturalist Partnership (a consortium of the nine coastal councils from Rockingham to Busselton) that displays bi-annual oblique aerial photographs of the coastline. The photos, which go back to Dec 2014, have been collected to document changes in the coastline over time. The images are freely available for download for non-commercial purposes. Hopefully some of you will find these useful/interesting. Let me know if you have any comments or questions. Jeff

Seen fisheries today taking a cray of elderly couple. There 76 mm gauge fitted tight on couples guage. ( could hold weight of cray).Fisheries one was loose, hence cray being taken away, don't buy cheap gauges. I always use 77 mm sheridan s/s gauge. Ally ones crap. Even had fish sticker out once. Just check.

Hi, Our family has a 53' yacht in the Busso area and we're finally getting around to putting a sounder on it. We're planning some long-distance trips in the next year or two so the sounders chart plotting capability is paramount. However, if we can also get one with a fish finder that covers the area of the yacht effectively that would be great. Can anyone recommend suitable models for this type of vessel? We are particularly interested in Lowrance or Garmin models because we have access to some good deals on these brands. Thanks in advance.

Geez, I wouldn't think there would be any local Members from Fishwrecked who would be involved with this behaviour: Violence and threats surge at boat rampAiden BoyhamTuesday, 12 December 2017 9:00AM As summer begins to heat up, so do the tempers at Bent Street Boat Ramp in Safety Bay, with the Telegraphreceiving multiple reports of antisocial behaviour at one of Rocking- ham’s most frequented boating hotspots. The site, which drew controversy earlier this year with issues involving dredging, is now in the midst of more drama after several users reported a surge in instances of verbal abuse and violence. One Waikiki fisherman who spoke to the Telegraph anonymously said he had been threatened with violence after asking a man to park his car in a more helpful spot. “People aren’t waiting for others to get out,” he said. “Fights are occurring early in the morning when everyone is trying to get in and out at the same time. “A lot of people are impatient and the boat ramp needs one or two more bays. “It’s only a matter of time until someone is seriously hurt.” With the crayfish season’s annual “white run” already having begun, along with the end of the demersal finfishing ban for the West Coast Bioregion coming on December 15, traffic at boat ramps across Rockingham is expected to continue to rise.

for anyone interested here is the latest gov report essentially saying shark numbers are not increasing ,
while it is true there are more boats, phones , videos, drones or helicopters/people and more ways to capture shark info for the media in all forms nowdays , its a blindly obvious fact imo that numbers of large migratory sharks and sharks in general numbers have increased since the 1990s
i believe it is only a matter of time that somewhere in the future the state gov is again going to be under pressure to ''DO SOMETHING 'about shark numbers of our coast
when that will be is not known , but imo it is inevitiable that it will happen no matter which gov is in office
what sort of shark mitigation strategy/tactics they would want to introduce is most likly not going to be something that will work effectivly to reduce the large sharks out there , its highly probable it will be something that meets the publics emotional agenda , but is expensive though not effective
tourism to wa has been dropping , the gov and its agencies have noted this , again im sure the ''shark '' issue in wa is being talked about behind closed doors , but not publicy as an isuse by the gov yet ...
be prepared to see this issue grow if shark sightings and attacks continue as they have in the last decade and at present i cant see any reason why that wont happen

NO EVIDENCE OF SHARK NUMBER INCREASE:
A Senate inquiry looking into shark mitigation and deterrent measures says there's no evidence that shark numbers have increased over the last few years.
The inquiry had 18 recommendations - and its chair Greens Senator Peter Whish-Wilson said it was mostly calling on the Federal Government to take more leadership around shark conservation and enhancing public safety.
Senator Whish-Wilson said as part of the inquiry they investigated the myth that shark numbers are on the rise- but experts said there was no proof of that. "So what we're actually seeing is a larger number of people reporting what they see and they are looking harder. So there's no evidence from the scientific community- in fact they say it's essentially a physical impossibility for Great White Shark population to explode, " he said.
He also called for a national standardised approach for signage at beaches with history of shark attacks and recommended that drum lines be replaced with Smart Drum Lines.
Mr Whish-Wilson explains how the smart lines work: "The rope and the hook are on a disc so if you catch a shark...or another protected creature they essentially swim around in circles. They also set off an alarm so the authorities know when they have caught something."

Not fishing related but thought someone might have an idea. I have a Toyota Prado 150 Series 2009. Recently it has occassionaly sounded like it has had issues turning over, you try again and it starts pefectly and runs fine. Tonight the 4Lo light and Multi-terrain select inidcator came on and are flashing, also the check engine light and slip indicator warning light are on solid. Has anyone had this issue, i thought i would check here if it is a simple fix, hopefully. I really don't want to take it to the dealer but might be forced to, so they can ream me a new one right before Christmas. If anyone has a recommendation who could look at it ASAP would be appreciated as well, located NOR. Cheers

Looks like Sunday evening is planning to bring a cracker swell (4.3m+ in Perth) with some solid SW winds to accompany ... just wondering what everyone is planning to do with their cray pots currently out. I'm tossing up between bring them back in to the pen; leaving them out in the deeper water (30 meters) but on the eastern side of the reef on the sand (so they don't blow into a reef); Riding it out where they currently are in 1820m; or bringing temporarily inside the 3 mile. Thoughts? NB: Pots are currently heavily weighted (2 ballasts in each)wooden pots.
Cheers

need to spool up a few reels for a shark bay trip at end of month, dont really want to spend a fortune on braid, jbraid, sunline siglon, dogtooth, any others that i should be looking at? Have 1 overhead for trolling and a couple of spin reels in the 5000 range which will get 30lb, some feed back would be great on performance

Went for a quick sambo jig today and a bit of a sniff for tuna , went to 2 “sambo” spots and only found these ! Went hard on my 200 Calcutta and bayjigger rod though , no sambos to be found and no tuna before the perfect storm hit so ended up at the pub ! The cray madness is too much for me at the ramp I’ve decided too!
