Got out for the first decent fish for the year. Entered the mangles bay fishing comp. Left the ramp just after 5am and headed out to 35m, then out to 40m. Ended up with a nice little mixed bag. PB baldie for me.

So, like a while heap of other people, we headed down to Esperance for a few weeks over the brake, staying at Esperance Seafront Caravan Park
Due to constant wind blowing onto the beach out the front of the accommodation and two small people, I found the opportunities to fish to be slim, but we still had a few goes. First was from the jetty at the yacht club having a go at squid. The breeze would have been blowing 25’s so casting down wind was the only option. Didn’t see a single sign of life down there so moved over to the charter boat jetty and there were a couple of fellas catching 50c piece sized skippy and releasing them. Plenty of signs of squid but nothing to show on the day.

Headed out to Lucky Bay next, a day before a front was forecasted. Overcast sky had me thinking the squid may hang around for a bit longer but with 3 adults and two kids fishing, we saw and caught nothing. Ended up giving up on squid after losing two jigs and cast prawns into the sand patches hoping for a KG but again, not even a tap. After two hours, falling into a hole and one of the other blokes ending up in the drink, we headed home via Le Grand Beach

After a week and a half, and with the forecast looking OK for half a day, two of us opted to jump on Blackjack Charters for a half day fish. Shayne is a great skipper. Got right involved in the banter and wasn’t aggressive or protective when I was asking questions or came in to look at the sounder/plotter like some metro operators are. Happy to explain how and why. Must be a country thing.

After 40 or so minutes out, first drop, baits hit the bottom, we were landing keepers. Next spot, more keepers, Next spot, more keepers. Over the 4 or so hours we fished, we were getting keepers each drop. Mainly Nannygai with a few Harli’s, Charlie Courts, Black Arse and sweep Got one red snapper on the last drop of the day.

The skipper was great and was putting back sized fish once he knew we had a feed and was half tour guide. Fishing 20m off an island in 30m of clear water was pretty cool.

We spent most of the time fishing around Long Island, Sandy Hook Island and Remark Island which are all spectacular in their own rights. The clear water just blew my mind

In the end, 21 fish back to the beach between 7 fishers and three groups. We all got a feed. Personally I thought the Nannygai were extremely overrated or it may have just been the way my Weber destroyed it but the Harli was fantastic.

Whilst down there, I met fellow FW’er Flash As, along with his family who were camping around 50m away from us who had a few trips out with another local FW’er.

Hey just wondering if anyone here has any feedback on this rod. (TJ582S) I've used it once and not caught anything to brag about. Demersal metro jigging. got the backbone to deal with a decent dhu? seems just a tad too short but does seem to work the jigs nicely.

See local rocko store got them in today. Daiwa bought duo out . And have started to export them back to Australia. Good size ones 95. And there cheaper now ,with new colours .

 Last couple of times I've been out of Ocean Reef in the last two weeks I've been hoping to get onto some tuna but haven't really seen any birds working and any tuna. Seems the blokes out of Cockburn are getting plenty.

Has anyone had much luck NOR?

Do I need to go for a mission south and get out behind GI to find these... A spaniad would also be a great prize. My Fishing buddy/decky is deck keen for a spaniad.

I did manage one SBT last year when I found some birds out of Ocean Reef but nothing this year so far..

Hi I hope this helps those new to boating understand how tides work and what all those crazy abbreviations mean on various charts.

 I was given this as a present yesterday and I charged it and took it to North beach jetty this morning and man does it give off some flash.It vibrates and flashes red and white light as well once it gets wet.Has anyone seen one before

forecast to hit our coast from a “superbomb” generated from 2 old cyclones in the west of the Indian Ocean. Reckon it will start coming on tonight.

there is a certain boat, with a marone hull, (yes i have your rejo) that un three different drifts , on 3 different marks, you came and sat right on top of us. even after the abuse and finger pulling.........  but dw, im sure you caught nothing on thm as every mark we hooked on, would shut down instantly after the first fish was landed , wierd day on the water or  we were one step ahead of you and doing blind driftrs, to have you fishing barron desert.

clearly you cant catch shit, nor read sounders or have any idea how to catch fish on your own. i got no idea if you read this forum but if you do, just be aware it was noticed a by a cpl other boats  in the same general area, when returning to the boat ramp they came up ad had a yarn about it.

dragging the tub down(5.6m Quintrex). Was hoping to hear if there has been any good reports out in Flinders and around the islands.

Would love to get into th usual species, KGs, Snapper, Harlies and of course Dhueys.

Are there YT Kings in around the reef structure?

Any info/Tips would be greatly appreciated.

 Im using an app called Fishing Points as a catch log and it has a weather funtion on it including tide data, however there are three options in the settings that read: Mean Lower Low Water, lowest Astronomical Tide and Mean Sea Level. Can anyone on here help me understand the difference so I can try set this up to function correctly ? Also if anyone has had good timez with this or any other apps fishing related I'd be interested in hearing. Cheers ! 

Got back Thursday from a week down in Esperance. Was the first time fishing from the boat down there. Heaps of islands to investigate. Got into some good fish out wide and some squid in the bay.

I will be heading up to Gnaraloo station for the first time with a few mates in May and was hoping some of you might have some tips or pointers for targeting some good fishing up there. I will be towing up my 6m Shark Cat and would love to get onto some gamefish if possible.

 Anyone running with this setup? Looking at upgrading my electronics, just confused by some info on furuno website, from what I understand you need a matching box to connect a 1kw tranny?? Extra $500 for a matching box, just want to know if it’s need for this setup or will the airmar tm260 for furuno plug in without needing this matching box??

 Off Mindarie today , bagged out on demersals by 7.30am , then chased the tuna for an hour and it was mayhem, stickbaits , sharks ( big 3m bronzies) diving birds and general chaos , red letter day and weather not too bad too. 

After weeks of shit wind happy to have a day out.

i went to my local nut and bolt supplier and bought a heap of unf bolts for an old car i`m restoring

and while i was there i asked about some 12g x 1 1/2" long stainless screws i needed for the boat

and they had them. 27c each so i bought a box. went to buy some spare bungs at my local boat

parts shop and thought i`d have a look at their stainless section and the same screws were $1.50 each,

pays to shop around.

 Been out every night since Monday & have maxed all licenses!! Snaring them to! Awesome fun! 

 So our time is up in Perth and heading back to broome via Exmouth after cyclone Joyce passes the weather for the whole state is amazing. 

Will be in Exmouth for a 3 night's and not sure what I should target I would love to get some prawns in the thrownet is that still possible this time of Year? 

How many miles are needed to travel to have a chance at dolphin fish?

Would like to launch places where not much off roading is needed and to get to the gulf is that possible  any advice or recent reports would be Great,

Thinking about heading to Harvey dam this Friday night to camp the night, we wont get down there until about 5:30... Do you think Im dreaming if I think I will get a spot? Anyone who has been down there during marron season who could shed some light would be appreciated
