Owner Circle Hooks
Submitted by Peko on Wed, 2015-06-24 13:16I was at the Southern end of Rottnest yesterday and got a couple of heavy hits on a standard paternoster rig. After a couple of minutes I'm starting to think big dhui and then I've lost it! I'm using Owner circle hooks on pretty much all my rigs these days with good success but just lately after clearly hooking up and just about to the stage of seeing colour I'm loosing the fish. Have to be doing something wrong but not sure what? I'm not suffering from the habit of trying to bury the hook as you would do with a conventional hook as I'm taking the rod out of the holder after the fish gone for a run.

Anyone Know Of Any Cheap Freight Companies That Might Be Able To Give Me A Reasonable Quote Say Around $200-$300?

2nd Hand Outboards
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Wed, 2015-06-24 10:00Just looking for some advice from the outboard boffins on what I should be looking at for a 5-5.3m fibreglass boat in regard to the outboard?
Ideally I want one that has a recent Yamaha, Suzuki or Honda 4 stroke outboard or an older one with low hours in the 90-115hp range.
If, I found a boat with a 2 stroke that I like what are the pitfalls I should be looking at in regard to age and hours?

Where Do I Fish Tomorrow?!
Submitted by Bruce on Tue, 2015-06-23 17:51Absolutely busting for a fish tomorrow, last exam was today so I have 6 weeks off and want to get straight into it!
Have my 4.6 ali runabout. Garden island might be sloppy with the NE wind so was thinking heading out from fremantle somewhere out from there.
Where would you be heading with the forecast taken into account (10-15 knot NE) ?
Cheers

Steep in. November
Submitted by ChrisG on Tue, 2015-06-23 17:30have a few bigger trips booked in this year, but couldn't resist still getting up to steep as well, albeit only for a couple of days rather than my normal 10 day session....
heading up up there last week of November for 3 nights / 4 days including travel, as this is the only time I can fit in.
....my question is: what is November like? Is the water usually warm enough for the normal Palagics etc? I've only ever fished steep in jan feb mar and April......I will be shore based at either the fault line or oven, plan to bottom, spin and maybe balloon as per normal.....

Spooling my TLD 15 & 25, what line?
Submitted by perthlad on Mon, 2015-06-22 21:32 Hey guys, im looking to respool my tld's as im not happy with the line currently on them.
I've been running braid on the 15 and mono on the 25.
Looking to set them both up for trolling for mackies tuna etc and just wondering what's the best bet?
I've heard that mono is better as for the stretch factor.
should i run a wind on leader or a simple wire trace on a snap swivel as wouldnt mind a quick switch to a bottom rig.
any suggestions as to what brand weighting of line etc
really help me out.
thanks

Gnaraloo in July
Submitted by Hutch on Mon, 2015-06-22 19:21Hey guys
Heading up to Gnaraloo for the first time on the 4th of July for 6 days and was just looking for a bit of info regarding landbased fishing and launching the yaks off the beach there.
Firstly we are staying at the homestead and I was wondering if there were any places to fairly comfortably get out on the kayaks off the beach closest to the homestead (know it's a decent surfing spot) or whether it would be better to just drive them up to the bay. If the bay is the go, roughly how far of a paddle is it to get to any decent fishing? Don't have a sounder so will be more than slighly winging it, will probably do a fair bit of drifting with the sea anchor and tow some lures around.
Secondly what is the landbased fishing like directly below the homestead? Have done a fair bit of research and got a rough idea of spanglies and the likes around the reef but a bit sketchy on the finer details (heaps of info about boat fishing but not much LB). Might make a day trip to some of the nearby cliffs if it seems like a worthwile thing to do.
Are there any patches of water clear of reef and/or rocks near the homestead where it would be ok to chase sharks or other larger game off the beach?
Any and all info is welcome and would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Hutch

Mindarie marina rock wall unfishable
Submitted by beeroclock on Sun, 2015-06-21 17:37Went down to Mindarie marina at 5pm to chase snapper. Its as bad as ive ever seen it. Heavy wave spray is actually landing inside the marina. When i got out the car and put on my jacket i nearly got blown off my feet as the wind grabbed it. Too dangerous to try to land a fish if you get one IMO, couldnt believe it there were two guys fishing there though pretty ballsy diehard fisho's!

Augusta
Submitted by ChrisG on Sun, 2015-06-21 17:05Looking at towing the boat down to Augusta next chance I get.
any reports of info on the new marina ramp?
also any hazards to be aware of? I've never fished from a boat down that way. Assume swell and wind considerations are similar to Perth water?

Solo launch and retrieves
Submitted by rj on Sun, 2015-06-21 16:53Hey lads
After a bit of help, I want to start going out fishing with my boy (3) a lot more and my mate that I normally go out with doesn't have the time. I have checked the search function and watched hundreds of videos on you tube, however I am not confident of driving my boat onto the trailer (don't even think my trailer is "drive on" capable). Does any one have any tips or even better a video on how to solo retrieve (and launch if you can - I did a launch on my own the other day nd managed OK but had to get very wet to do it) without driving on.
PS - 19 foot pacemeaker with a 135merc, normally launch from Hillarys
Cheers

fishing trip
Submitted by Anonymous on Sun, 2015-06-21 09:53I'm planning a trip up north next year and i will be dragging up the tinny with me, first thought was exmouth since i haven't been up there in 8 years. I would look at doing a bit of creek fishing and hopefully get amongst some of the fish on the west side aswell, being in a 4.1 meter tinny i would have to have the weather on my side. Any other ideas where i can get onto some good fishing in a tinny up north?? Cheers fellas

Mulloway ?
Submitted by 420casts on Sat, 2015-06-20 17:02Saw a fish ~1m long in a metro spot just sitting under my mates tinny in about 8m of water, and instantly I rigged a single hook maybe 5/0 or 6/0 with a running bean sinker and loaded it with a live yellowtail. Hurled it in, fish instantly does a U turn and gently takes off with the bait. Ran for about 30 seconds, then rejecting the bait and spitting it back out, alive. We reckon Mulloway, because of the silhouetted visual we got, but upon thinking we wonder what else it could be ?
Also, when livebaiting, what do you prefer to use for mulloway and other fish like that ? I used a single hook and a sinker because it was what was there, spur of the moment type scenario but I'm trying to work out the best way to have this prepped for next time. Cheers.

Sea Venture Charters Mindarie
Submitted by S.Cotchin on Sat, 2015-06-20 14:12Hi Guys
chasing some feedback on Sea venture charters leaving from Mindarie
I am thinking of booking the boat for the day in december for the boys at work for our chrissy doo this year
would take them out on my boat but only have a 6mtr Trailcraft and would be pretty squashed with 10 blokes +
has any one been with them before and do they put you on the spots or just piss around like most of the charters that operate out of perth
any feed back would be good
cheers

2WD on Ramps
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Fri, 2015-06-19 13:29I currently have a 2WD 2.2l deisel 2013 Ford Ranger which is a work vehicle (working on justifying a 4WD next changeover) that I use for my dinghy and will be using once I get my boat which is going to be a 5-5.3 fibreglass hull.
One thing that worries me is ramps like East Fremantle which are very slippery and the extra weight of the boat just resulting in me spinning the tyres on the slippery surface and getting stuck on the ramp. Is this going to be an issue or will the tyre just cut through the slippery stuff and grip the ramp?
