? for the fly fishos

I have just ordered all the components to build a 6'6" #2wt fly rod for all the tight sections of the rivers down south. My question is, how far can you cast such a short, light rod? realistically I would not need to cast more than 7m. I have 2wt WF floating line for it already.

Any info is appreciated.

Shimano Warranty

Recently I had my first issue with one of the Shimano reels I have.
I guess unfortunately from time to time some things do go wrong, when they shouldn't.
At this point OEM's can be judged on how they are corrected, or not.
Last Friday I went back to where I purchased the reel from 2 years ago and showed them what had happened, I did not ask for warranty just explained what went wrong.
The guys I dealt with said it shouldn't have failed and would submit a warranty claim on Shimano.
Today I received a phone call from the shop I returned my reel to saying the failed part was replaced and ready for collection warranty covered.
The new handle was wrapped in a Shimano Australia bag and handed back to me 7 days after I had inquired about a repair, 5 working day's so to speak.
So I have to say well done to Shimano for dealing with issue and rectifying in a more that timely manner but also a credit to the retailer for submitting it to them quickly to enabled a prompt repair.
Well done.

which reel for Assassin Beach Master Heavy

Hi Guys,

I have an Assassin Beach Master Heavy overhead rod that I am looking to buy a reel for. To be used for surfcasting, mainly for larger species such as mulloway/sharks.

I am thinking of either trinidad A or a talica

which size reel is good for this, and also what line rating? (braid)

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks

license renewal debacle

A bit has already been posted about this already and it has been said by some that due to cost cutting no renewals are going to be sent in future.

My license expired on the 3rd and as I was lucky enough to read a post after renewals weren't sent to others I renewed my license on the 5th. Well today I recieved my renewal notice late and in the same mail delivery in a seperate envelope was my new license and rules booklets.

Figure that out

Okuma GT popping rods

Hey, looking at a GT combo for throwing poppers and stick baits at GT but also mahi mahi over in south america. Leaning towards the okuma 16000 high speed and want to know if anyone has used or even seen the okuma popping rods. They have a heavy duty, medium duty and medium heavy duty. I'm thinking the medium heavy duty is a mix that will work poppers and stick baits.

Here's a link to one I'm looking at http://www.fishingtackleshop.com.au/products/okuma-salina-3-fishing-rod-792mh-stickbait-popper-rod.html

If you've used a salina 3 rod I'd like to hear from you, also if anyone knows a tackle shop in Perth that stocks these rods I'd love to see them myself.

cheers

River to sea dumbell poppers 200mm

Thinking of going on a GT charter but they dont allow trebles.....wondering of anyone has fshed them with inline singles or baker rig? Any advise appreciated....cheers Jon

was thinking of rigging like below.......the one with assist rig...is what i use to jig with ...attached to lure with size 11 split........thats a jm monstter hook 13/0 on the end of assist with cable tie to keep hook near lure.......on th end is an inline 9/0 shogun....I figured with the line attached to the solid ring and direct to assist...it would take the strain off the lure during the fight and the split ring used to hold lure(i realize the lure will probably be in the fishes mouth but sometimes they spit the lure during fight....at least kings do)

The other one has 9/0 inline shogun  with size 11 owner splits.......

any one got any thoughts on each rig....pros and cons? Thanks Jon

whitey fri 21st march. spot filled.

Spot filled cheers guys. Just got note the charters fully booked now too.

Cheers Troy.

Check your fishing licence renewal date.

The retards at the fisheries still have not fixed their so called glitch on renewals.I checked mine today and it was out of date. They must be making a bucket load of money out of it.Maybe not as I have not seen the fisheries around here in the last 15 years.

New smart phone app to make it easier to report catches of tagged fish etc

https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/fishtagwa/id785910062?mt=8

Reporting tagged lobster, finfish and crabs to the Department of Fisheries will help with our research enabling us to manage our fish stocks more sustainably and ensure there are plenty of fish for the future.

Using FishtagWA to report tagged fish is easy – simply Create Report and follow the instructions such as:

Take a photo – that shows the tag in the animal/fish.

Date – The current date automatically appears but can be changed

Tag number – So we can identify the animal/fish

Breeding status (rock lobster and crabs only) – We need to know what stage of the breeding cycle the tagged animal is at. The Species screen will assist you in identifying this information if you are unsure.

Fish/animal released or retained – To let us know if you release the fish/animal back to the water or if you kept it

Size – This will help us work out how much the animal/fish has grown since it was released. Guides are provided to show you how to accurately measure a rock lobster, crab and fish

Location – This provides us with information as to how far the animal/fish has moved since it was released. You can either use your current location, or, if you move away from where you caught the fish/animal, please record the position of where it was caught. Your fishing details will remain confidential.

We are also asking you provide your contact details. Your details will enable us to report back to you about how far the animal/fish has moved and how much it has grown.

This app is produced by the Department of Fisheries, Western Australia. The Department is responsible for managing the State’s marine and freshwater fisheries and ecosystems for present and future generations. For more information, visit the Department’s website
