Today I learned
Submitted by sambo24 on Tue, 2012-03-20 13:54Today, I learnt that if you mix half a bacon and egg mcmuffin, the hash brown, a packet of premix berley, a kilo of chopped mulies, some old chocolate biscuits and some fish oil together, it
makes a VERY effective berley for tarwhine and whiting.
What a productive tuesday, especially since i barred uni to go for a fish..

Does This Look Like A Sandbar's Head ?
Submitted by Tomo91 on Mon, 2012-03-19 23:13Caught it ballooning tonight just around Port Beach. Pretty sure it’s a Sandbar because it had a long tail (about 60 cm and shark was around 1.5 maybe a little less). Left my camera at home so couldn’t get a picture of the whole shark.
Had a fresh fillet of it tonight and was delicious!
You guys reckon it’s a Sandbar? Sorry I know its hard to tell from this picture.

Thresher shark
Submitted by Jeffree on Mon, 2012-03-19 20:09Just had a phone call from a mate fishing down near freo area just 5 minutes ago. He caught what he thinks is a thresher although he is unsure. he was ballooning off a freo rock groyne. He described it as having a really long whippy tail, that faught extremely hard for its size. was around 1.8m long.
My question could it possily be a thresher or are they an offshore species??
He was solo and did not have a cameara o take a pic.

Ebay braid
Submitted by Wet Dreams on Mon, 2012-03-19 19:31Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone has tryed any of the braided lines or even mono lines available on ebay and what they're thoughts on them are? Pretty cheap and available in large spools. I currently use high end diawa and nitlon braids as I dont mind spending that little extra on decent line, but have a few mates who are going to try it and see how they go so looking for others experiences.
Cheers Sam.

Need advice and tips!
Submitted by flexn on Mon, 2012-03-19 16:35
Hi all
New to the forums, I
I have mostly just been fishing/squiding around cockburn sound with a smaller boat but I just recently bought a 19ft fibreglass mastercraft powered by a 90hp Yamaha. The plan is to get in to some decent fishing around five fathom, and am hoping to hit the FADS. where abouts around 5 fathom have people been going?
My next question comes in at trolling. Trolling for fish what depth lures have people been getting them on? and which types are the go atm. Just basic ones that flash? Poppers? I need to know which kind of lures for which fish and conditions.
Any advice or help would be great!
Cheers

Glass bottom boat
Submitted by Fraser 5.25 on Mon, 2012-03-19 11:50Got a question to those who have installed a "glass bottom veiwing panel" in the hull of their fibreglass boats. I have spoken to someone who has the same boat as me, a Fraser 5.25 and they told me that they had stuck a bullet proof piece of perspex in his past boats which made it a dream for diving and I was thinking of doing the same at some stage. Just wondering who has done it, how much it has cost, have there been any structural problems and where it can be done?
Cheers,
Ken

1st stick face tips
Submitted by Paul_86 on Mon, 2012-03-19 11:24G'day everyone,
Im Heading up north to coral bay in a few weeks and im planning on going after my 1st stick face. I've got all the gear sorted, so I was just after any tips on what to do and what not to do once the fish is hooked or in the spread at least. Total novice to marlin/sail fish here so any help is appreciated! I think what I'm mostly would like to know is how and where the boat should be positioned during the fight.
I'll be fishing from a 5m runabout and Ill be using 2x 15kg trolling outfits running soft grassies and Oscar juniors in various colors, also a teaser for good luck.
Any help is appreciated :) cheers!

Huge stingray..info required:)
Submitted by worldfisher on Mon, 2012-03-19 10:19Hi Guys,
Finally, after losing a couple of big rays we landed this beauty last night. Just wondering if anyone could provide more info on it. I believe it is a Dasyatis chrysonota but am unsure whether it is male or female as this plays a large part in the weight of the ray. Unfortunately we didn't measure the disc width but would estimate it to have been at least 150cm..It was released after a couple of photos,

All the best, Scott

Water temp
Submitted by Dirt on Mon, 2012-03-19 05:49 Went out to the west end for a troll yesterday water temp was only 22.3 degrees , water looked like shit! Still managed to pick up a solid mackie on the southern side on our way home. Is this early signs that the metro pelagic season is winding down
