Cape naturalist fishing september

Hey everyone

I'm fairly new to fishing and am going down to eagle bay from Perth next week for a few days

I have access to an 8m centre console boat. I'm basically just wondering where around the cape naturaliste region would be best to start to get a handle on catching some just shallow water fish cause I feel out of my depth haha

Also maybe what kind of fish I can expect to find around the duns borough area and the best jigs/baits to catch them if you're willing to hand over some tips :)

Thanks guys

David

reel choice help

Hi,

I recently bought a 4-6kg 6.6" FWA rod and im not sure what size or kind of reel to put on it. Im thinking about a Stradic 4000 as its going to be my light snapper gear so it needs good line capacity. Any Suggestions??

Cheers Matt

Are you man enough for a man's toy?

I really want one, mostly just for the name, a little for the camo too.

Its a new heavy snakehead rod by Crony.

Westmoore Island

Hi Guys

New to the site. Looking great so far. Im off to Westmoore Island in 2 weeks. Anyone been there before? Got any suggestions as to what kind of gear to take with me? Where are the best land based spots on the island?

Cheers

Fishing Broome - Sailfish

Good Afternoon All,

I am keen to come over from Brisbane and fish Broome for your Sailfish season and what I was hoping to do, instead of potentially going for mainstream charter operators is looking for a knowledgable fellow fisherman that has a boat and gear that we can go and smash some sailfish.

Naturally, will assist with costs etc.

If there is any genuine interest, would be great to hear from you.

Cheers

Stubby.

landbased Penguin Island meet up friday

Just throwing it up as an idea so far.

Winds on seabreeze are showing 1 knot at 11am. I know seabreeze isnt acurate even the day before let alone 4 days away but im not really to fussed if its crappy weather. I just booked friday off work. Just keen for a long weekend ;)

Anyone keen to meet up and flick around for some whiting or go the ocean side for big skippy/ silver bream?

Shark bay LB suggestions

heading to shark bay in about 2 weeks, gonna be camping up the north tip likely at bottle bay etc. have been there once before only for a couple days and caugth some small mackeral, tailor and long tom from shore all on metals. had a few quick goes with HB minnows (not really sure what i was hoping for but was just experimenting) but had no luck so stuck with metals mostly. tried a few soft plastics but either got nothing or ripped up by long toms (never thought id come across a fish worse than blowies!)

chucked bait out at night, got a sting ray first time and a tiny mulloway the next. anyone got some reccomendations of lures/bait/spots to try for some better 'eating' fish? remembering ill be stuck on land :(

Seasport charters this Thursday

Hey all just trying to get a little crew going for this Thursday, I've never been and really keen. Spoke to Whitey and said he'll take a minimum of 4. Winds are great and he's said the swell should drop down considerably as its no where near what its forecasted for today.

Cost is $250 per person and I don't mind ppl car pooling with me(I live in Karrinyup).

Call me on 0416951400. Please only call if your 100% sure.

Thanks

Talica Vs. New Ocea Jigger

Hi Guys,

I am in the market for a new small" overhead, running 40-50lb (pe2.5 - 3)

Now I have narrowed my choices down to getting either a Talica 8 Single Speed or the new Ocea Jigger 1500PG...

What are your thoughts?? Price difference isn't an issue.. Will be using it for jigging, drift baiting and a bit of trolling

reel choice?

hey all,

i bought a shimano terez 40-80lb the other day and i just went to put my fin nor on there to find that it doesnt fit on the rod. so i've decided to by a saragosa for it.the only problem is i dont know if i should buy the 14000 or the 18000 because there simular .would the 18000 be to big for the rod or is it a better option becasue i can get more line on the spool? .does any one have a reel that they favour that they may think will suit that rod?

cheers

Rod suggestions

I just purchased a Daiwa Caldia 2506 from rayannes for $189 delivered and Im wondering what others would suggest is a good rod to match. I do have an old 3-6kg 6'6 graphite shakespere catera that I still use but Im thinking of going a bit lighter rod (1-3kg or 2-4kg) and perhaps a bit longer (7ft or so) to target bream and flatties as well as trolling/casting from a boat for tailor and salmon and possibly target kg's with sp. I have 10lb powerpro to spool it with. Dont wanna spend mega bucks, have heard pfleuger trion and berkley dropshots are good budget options.

Planning a trip for landbased fishing at kalbarri

My old man has some spare holidays off work so we are going to head up to kalbarri for 10 days. Never been there myself, my dad has but never fished we would like to see if anyone can give us some helpful info reguarding some areas to fish, and target species. cheers James

Absolute Tragedy

Been working all day moving ten cubic metres of loam by hand Shovel in the barrow shovel out the barrow after wheeling it all around the back. Dodged the rain also

Had enough money on me to get a six pack. Got to my door, the bag broke and bye bye beer!!!!!

No more money available for a few days

Anyone got a 22 rifle available?????

Not happy Jan

Phil

Too much rubbish

Was a bit disgusted to see how much rubbish needed to be picked up at Wilbinga earlier today.

Shame so many people think it is OK to leave so much crap behind.

Thanks to all who rocked up to lend a hand. Photo below of a few of the forumites who were able to help out with the cleanup.

HORRIBLE weather.......!!!!!!

P.S. Go Eagles.

Beelah dam

Can you fish it? and anyone else know of brnswick river fishing spots?

Trout lures

I'm heading down to Karri Valley for a few days fishing soon. Have heard that corn and bugs are the best baits for the local trout. Can anyone recommend a few good lures?

Soft Plastics

Hey,

What kind of plastics (size, colour etc) should i use for snapper and what size jig head. i will be fishing 8-14 metres of water

Cheers Matt.

What's the weirdest thing you've used for bait/lure etc and have caught?

Just interested to see whats been used. Personally strangest for me was seeing someone using earplugs for tailor. flangies using moths, I think for herring, can't remember. But yea, what weird stuff's worked for ya?

Cast net questions

Is a bigger cast net easier to trow?

I'm leaving in a month to the Western australia, to use cast nets in WA I need a linces right? The licens allows me to trow nets from Broome all the way down to Perth?

At the momment I live in Queensland where cast nets are legal and I also have one; A cotton one what was a big mistake but now I wanna buy an other one from mono. Now I'm not sure wich size I wanna buy. the one I have now is an 8 foot net and I can trow it really good but I was wondering if it is worth to buy a bigger one?

cheers

Electric Motor on Surf Ski

Hi guys, I just picked up 2 cool surf skiis from a garage sale for 20 bucks each. One is bigger than the other and i was thinking of putting an 18lb electric motor on the back. Do you think its possible? The surfski can take up to 80kg, and im only 55kg max. Would it work? Have any of you guys tried it?

Cheers Ben

Ledge Point - anyone stayed there

Has anyone stayed at Ledge Point Holiday Village?  What's it like?  What's the ramp like and importantly what's the fishing like?  Is there anywhere protected if the wind gets up?
