Your worst fishing trip
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Sun, 2007-06-24 09:31Just thought I'd start a bit of discussion, SPESS has given me an idea with his, what would you take to the island thread. How about a few stories about your worst fishing trip, the things gone wrong, the fish not biting, etc etc.
Anyone had any real shockers?

Strandard!
Submitted by SPESS on Fri, 2007-06-22 08:45I got this email from a client this morning and i thought it might be a good one to put up on the site! Here we go..........
You are strandard on a deserted island with all the beer, girls (boys if you prefer) and food you will ever need. The island is surrounded with every fish known to man, marlin to herring! Theres plenty of structure around and in all depths....consider this!
There is only one catch......... you can only have 1 rod and reel combo! Also 1 lure that you can have as many of as you want as long as its only one size, colour and brand. Terminal tackle like leader, spare line and the like are also plentiful. Choice wisely as you only get one! The combo also has to be one you already have.
Give your reason from your choice also.Think like i did and ask yourself....how many fish can i catch on one type of lure and one combo!
See how you go...............

Fishing articles/stories
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Thu, 2007-06-21 10:30I was reading yesterday one of the local fishing magazines and then proceeded to read an eastern states mag and then reflected on all the articles and stories I have read over the years and I really begun to question how much they vary from one another. Apart from fishing in different locations, do you think that once you have read a couple of articles on different species or locations, you've almost read them all? There certainly are a few good writers out there that keep you interesting and informed, but I want to know what you think it is about these publications that makes you continue buying them.

Fishing at Night
Submitted by rickets on Mon, 2007-06-18 19:59Ok, realy dumb question but I thought id throw it out there....
For a person who uses lures a lot, what do you find is the best way to fish at night?
I have been told that lures are pretty much useless at night because fish hunt mainly by scent and sound at night and lures have neither of these....
Anyone have any suggestions, or does the avid lure caster revert back to bait for night fishing?

Any spots around Shelley/Riverton area!!!
Submitted by jangles on Mon, 2007-06-18 18:47Gday all,
I was just wondering if there is any other spots around Shelley/Riverton area of the Canning River which I can access by foot or push bike? As I don't have a boat. Due to me only knowing The Sticks which is out the front of my place I wanna find some nice spots around this area which I can fish with lures?
Would any one be kind enough to share me some of the tips around this area?
It would be dearly appreciated!
Thanks Fishwrecked crew...
Cheers...

Pilbara Vs Gascoyne fishing comp???
Submitted by PilbaraBrad on Fri, 2007-06-15 11:49In light of the recent succes off the NOR Vs SOR comp i had the idea throwing a Pilbar Vs Gascoyne comp.Who would be interested? I know it would take a lot of organising but that doesnt mean it couldnt happen. Throw some ideas out there people. Say two comps, one around sep/oct and another around mar / april in each location. Try get some sponsors onboard could be a good thing. Tell us what you think. If we get enough people interested we could try organise something.

Larger Landbased Fishing using lures
Submitted by rickets on Thu, 2007-06-14 22:44Another topic Id like to throw out there to all you wise folk :D
When fishing at opportune times (tide and conditions are fair), what sort of lures do you find work the best for landbased fishing for tailor, mulloway and anything else in that category of fish?
Or do you prefer the ganghooks with the mulies to lures?
Thoughts? :)

Fishing on a low tide
Submitted by rickets on Thu, 2007-06-14 22:41I just wanna throw it out there... just to make sure I am not insane, but, I have always known that fishing on the high tide is the best times for various reasons which are common sense...
However, is there anyone with half a brain or any knowledge at all regarding this topic that also believes that fishing on a low tide can be quite rewarding aswell?
If so, how and for what and with what variables would fishing landbased on a low tide make?
Maybe im just over eager but I find myself frustrated because I tend to find low tide fishing yielding nothing (or maybe im just crap) and its times like now in the month when the low tide is around sunset or late arvo, the time in the day when I do most of my fishing... I just hate waiting for the month to tick over so that high tides are back to late arvos!
Any way around this? Or any particular counter methods to fishing on a low tide?

Tantabbiddi
Submitted by PilbaraBrad on Thu, 2007-06-14 20:46Sunday cant come soon enough. The easterlies up here have been howling now for over a month. Did get a fish in today, two hours up a creek on some light gear. Managed to land a nice threadie on 1kg a 50cm jack on 3kg and a few estuary cod. Was just enough to fuel the habbit, next stop will be exmouth.
Adam are you still keen to meet up with us at some stage to filter out some of that local knowledge, im sure we can bribe you with some cold refreshments. If so we will be at the lighthouse caravan park some stage sunday morning. Let us know ad we will organise something. Same goees for anyone else in the area at that time, if you want to catch up with another boat give us a hoy.
Cheers

*******NOR comp POSTPONED to 23rd JUNE*******
Submitted by Andy Mac on Thu, 2007-06-14 18:21After reviewing the weather forcasts and discussing the possibility of a start with entrants from both North and South it has been decided to postpone the event for a week.
20knot easterlies in the morning only easing to 15knots in the late afternoon are conditions that are not particularly enjoyable from experience. We also have a number of smaller boats that would not be safe to venture far from shore in such conditions. So in the interests of safety and to ensure the day is as fun as we can make it we have postponed.
Apologies to those wishing for a green light this weekend, hopefully you can still make it the following week (or if its postponed again, the week after)
Tim will post a separate NOR comp registration thread shortly so we can see who will be available next week 23rd June.
If the weather does a U turn and looks good on Saturday you can obviosly still go fishing, it just won't count towards the comp.

YTK challenge
Submitted by Simon C on Mon, 2007-06-11 07:22To any interested and like minded fisho out there. I have chosen this winter to try and target Yellowtail kings as my main species. i know that they are out back of Rotto in pretty good numbers, but I am sure that they must frequent our closer reefs as well. If anyone has any info that would help me get started, or is interested in joining me on this quest please let me know. I mainly fish mid week and am happy to pay for fuel or supply my own boat or rotate. I have only caught a couple of Kings so far last year and thought they were awesome sport on light gear, so I can only imagine the damage a really big one would do. Anyone who can point me in the right direction would be a legend.

Congratulations Dalmatinac - Champion Angler SOR comp 2007
Submitted by Andy Mac on Sun, 2007-06-10 09:11On behalf of Fishwrecked, the organising comittee and all those participating, a big "WELL DONE" to Rob (Dalmatinac) for a great haul of multi species earning him the Champion Angler trophy and carrying a points lead into the next round of the comp.
It was fantastic to see a couple of thumping dhuies caught on the day and all the frames go to the onite research table set up by Ian Keay. (Thanks Ian again for your support and hopefully a few more anglers are now recruited into the frame donation scheme.)
I think it was pretty apparent that everyone had fun, stayed safe and met up with a few more like minded fisho's, which was the whole objective of the day.
Of course a huge vote of thanks goes out to our sponsors on the day, their generosity and support for the event made it all the more enjoyable.
Hopefully the weather gods will smile on us again next week so we can get the NOR hosted event up and running with a similar prize pool allocation. Please start registering now so we can see who will be in the line up. A separate thread will be posted where you can do this shortly.
Personally I would like to thank Tim for all his efforts in getting things together for the day, much appreciated guys.

Just wondering what would be the most comprehensive compact book (for the tackle box) on the market for the identification of fish specie(s), location(s), edibility and anything else.
Thanks
