AG Report into DPIRD
Submitted by Hose A on Thu, 2022-12-08 09:00Well, Well the Auditor General delivers a report stating that DPIRD has a serious conflict of interest issue and weakness regulating the commercial fishing sector!
After just shafting the recreational fishers /local small business up and down the coast with the current massive overreach.
No wonder the commercial sector isn't crying foul, once again the restrictions don't pass the pub test??? (The standard by which all political descision are measured).

Cray pots
Submitted by Bodgy 79 on Wed, 2022-11-30 17:46Gday all,has anyone tried the steel fold up cray pots? And if so is there catch rate any good? Thinking they may stay put better in the stronger currents and swells without putting a ton of ballast in them. Cheers for any feedback

Scotty's Lures - Barra set
Submitted by NORUN NOFUN on Tue, 2022-11-29 12:14A little set of lures I put together this week with a couple of fizzers for barra.
Quite a complex colour pattern that kinda looks rough using the air brush, hand brush and foil work.
I sometimes find it harder to make the paintwork distressed than if I was air brushing for a perfect finish.
Lures still need clear coat and will look a million dollars once applied.
Cheers
If I have put this post in the wrong category please let me know as I just thought it would be cool to just put up pics every now and then of some new creations I have made.

FNQ charter
Submitted by davewillo on Mon, 2022-11-28 12:14Heading to Cairns & Port Douglas with the family in March. Keen to do a charter one day and wondering if that's a good time to chase barra or maybe go offshore? I've done both before but at other times of the year.
Keen to hear any ideas and also any suggestions for operators.

Importing used outboards from the USA
Submitted by Roughas on Sat, 2022-11-26 14:05This may have been covered years ago when the Aussie dollar was stronger. Anyway, does anyone know of agents in the US who broker this kind of process. As I say, I am looking at used only. Thanks in advance, I John

Bivy Stick Mobile Phone Satellite Extender
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Fri, 2022-11-25 07:43Has anyone got/used one of these? I've found mobile reception to drop out >12nm out of Mindarie and have been exploring options and mobile extenders installed in the boat are bloody expensive. Really just looking for ad hoc coms but whilst avoiding installing anything. I've just changed from Optus to Telstra and haven't tested it yet but the Bivy Stick looks like a perfect mobile solution that can be taken on hikes etc as well.

Montie's trip Nov 22' - Montebello Island Safari's
Submitted by NORUN NOFUN on Wed, 2022-11-23 09:04Gday guys, just got back from a week's fishing the Montie's with 13 mates from over east with Montebello Island Safari's.
Could have not asked for better weather bar the last day, too good infact and unfortunately the targeted fish I had in mind on stick baits were very hard to tempt with little to no swell.
Had an absolute ball catching up with friends again, the usual great banter, beers and some well earned fish on our part.
I had finished this post by setting out a day by day break down of what we got upto and what we fished for, explaining how the days unfolded but after typing it all out I realised the post was, well, kinda pretty negative towards Montebello Island Safari's itself as a whole being the facilities, equipment and boats, predominately not alot of positivity towards the skipper and as a consequence of poor leadership and direction, the deckie's as well.
Each day was pretty challenging on alot of fronts and not because of us as a group but we made it work and had an absolute ball.
The reason I say this is that it was us as a group, the paying customer that made the trip memorable for the good times we had and the fish we caught, could it have been better, your damn right it could have been, a whole lot better for a whole lot of reasons and being a pretty positive type of person I just deleted the whole post.
Maybe it was because we were the 2nd last charter for the year and everyone from M.I.S had just had enough and were ready to pack up and take a break, I'm not sure to tell you the truth.
A couple of photo's I had on my phone and still waiting for quite a few more.

New old rig
Submitted by rob90 on Sat, 2022-11-19 15:53After years of looking for a boat and not being able to afford any I've finally come across a good deal and I had to make it mine. Completely opposite to what I was looking for but it'll get me and the family out there safely and comfortably. Got a 200 merc black anchor with 160hrs, brought from the original owner. Not a bad upgrade from the ski. Few things to tidy/fix up on her but nothing too serious. Catch you all on the water, I'll be sure to ask the fishwrecked brains trust plenty of questions.

reel choice?
Submitted by Sea goat on Sat, 2022-11-19 14:25hey guys.
recently had to retire my go to spinning rod as tip got smashed, and too old /damaged to warrant replacing.
im looking for a new setup for casting lures etc when out deep, partcularly at the fads, or when coming across bust ups etc.
dont like to go too heavy as like the fight/feel.
mainly be targetting: dollies, tailor, small tuna if im lucky. and would hopefully like something with enough strenght to be in with a chance in case i ever manage to fluke a YTK!
been ages since ive had to buy a spinning rod, so unsure where to look.
looking to sppol with maybe 20-30lb briad.
im not particuallry adept at overhead, so looking at nomral spining style.
not looking for anything ridiculous, but happy to spend up anywhere up to around the $300 mark for the rod, and simlar or maybe 350 -400 for the reel.
also looking for a good desiganted trolling rod and reel setup. , hopefully for maccs, tuna etc. as likely be doing more of this if the new bans come in!.
if anyone has any suggestions of what has worked for them, or currently looks good, i would love to hear your opinions.
thanks heaps guys!
Goat.
