Jigging rod to suit stradic CI4 4000 advice
Submitted by Pezdog on Thu, 2013-06-27 15:27Hi guys
Just after your thoughts on a good jigging rod to suit a Stradic CI4 4000 reel. Will use for soft plastics and jigs not too deep off Rotto etc.
Budget of about $150-$200 I would hope to get in under.
Cheers

Moving to Dubai! - Farewell
Submitted by Knot Big Enuff on Wed, 2013-06-26 18:10Hey All ...
Had the pleasure of living in Perth for the last 11yrs (minus 2yrs overseas) - and now it's time to move on ... to Dubai with Work! Looking forward to the move, but feeling sad leaving all the mates here in Oz, and not to mention the great fishing adventures I had over the years.
All the best to everyone on here, as I spent time on this Forum more than I spent on my inbox at work
Some great Peeps I've met through FishWrecked, that will maintain their freindship for very long time.
I'll certainly keep my eye open on the forum, and hopefully some reports of GTs and stuff to come ... watch out S Oman ... here I come
Anyone on here living and fishing there, please PM me, and I'll share some contact details; it'd be great to empty your brains a bit.
Enuff rattling and best of luck to everyone.
Tight lines

Giant Piraiba Catfish
Submitted by Uluabuster on Wed, 2013-06-26 12:46Anyone watch the SBS channel last night ?
Killing Bin Laden was on at the same time but I chose to flick to SBS to watch this episode.
This bloke from Chile ? who called himself an extreme angler went hunting for this giant piraiba in the Amazon River using 1-2 kg size catfish as bait and Penn International size reel.
Eventually he managed to land a monster estimated to be 200+kg.
I would have thought Jakub would have been better off using a jigging rod or bent butt big game rod and harness to ease the pressure off his back . Mono is the go here given the river is laden with snags.
Can't wait to watch next week's episode and see him battling the mighty Giant Barramundi of Africa - The Nile Perch.

Ocea Jiggers seem the Jigging rage
Submitted by crasny1 on Wed, 2013-06-26 08:00Can someone explain to me why. I have no jigging outfit, and moving back to Mandurah full time. That means thinking off it.
But I have never even looked at one but everyone (almost) raves about it.

GBR Marine Park Catamaran
Submitted by sarcasm0 on Wed, 2013-06-26 06:51http://www.wired.com/autopia/2013/06/barrier-reef-catamaran/
'An all-new, environmentally friendly catamaran will help officials in Australia protect the 1,250-mile Great Barrier Reef while enjoying a modicum of comfort.
The concept ship, due to be launched in 2014, is a joint project between Incat Crowther and Marine Engineering Consultants. It’s set to be used in the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area (GBRWHA), and gives officials a 24-foot mobile office on the water.
The catamaran features seating for 15, room for 12 crew in twin cabins, a platform for launching an inflatable boat or dives, and multiple workstations. And, since the crew will be Australian, there’s an outdoor barbecue. It’s an ideal setup for patrolling one of the most valuable and sensitive natural resources on earth.'

Do you use trim tabs or a hydrofoil/stabiliser on your boat?
Submitted by beeroclock on Tue, 2013-06-25 12:50Ive been slowly doing up a 19ft voyager thats got a 125HP Mercury 2 stroke (2+2 cylinders) on the back. I do alot of Km's out there and I estimate that it uses just under a litre per kilometre with 3 blokes, 150litres fuel and our fishing gear cruising at 38km/h (approx 4000 rpm) (the hull is late 80's and seems pretty solidly built and heavy) I would like to reduce the fuel consumption if possible so just wondering if i was to fit trim tabs or a hydrofoil/ stabiliser or both will it make a significant difference in fuel economy? I keep reading all the advantages of these, do people find they are worth it. The boat cruises at 12 km/h on two cylinders (approx 2500 rpm) and when the other two cylinders kick in at 2600 rpm or more it jumps straight up onto a plane so maybe trim tabs and hydrofoil/ stabiliser wont make a difference? Also what about props if you change them can you reduce fuel economy? All advice appreciated Cheers Dave

I heard a rumour it may be for the extra traffic the Ocean Reef Marina will generate when construction finally begins. Anyone else heard anything?

What's wrong with my fishing? Or Super Moon?
Submitted by Grumpysmurf on Mon, 2013-06-24 17:41So armed with some mulies, squid jigs, and other gear. I had the idea to target snapper in the Cockburn Sound. After reading, it looks likethe following tips should be followed; Snelled hooks, burley up, go at night and wait for change of light. So launched at Woodies at 4am, and headed towards the D9. I sounded it out and think I saw fish arches on the sounder (no good at reading sounder), but I was definately anchored up-current on the structure.
I burleyed up, and kept trying until 11.30am for nothing but a baby sambo (cute little thing!). This meant I was there for 6+ hours and sat through moon set / sunrise / tide change - all for nothing :(
Another 4 hours was spent running around the sound trying for squid / herring / skippy as I was getting desperate - managed one little squid and a herring.
So, what am I doing wrong? Or should I just blame the Super Moon?

Happy to go out past direction bank but I hear the fish tend to be closer this time of year. Any suggestions on where to go - Im in the Quinns beach area. Rod for casting lures and baits
Submitted by Justo82 on Mon, 2013-06-24 15:27hi all,
I'm looking at ideas for a rod. I want this for casting mostly lures off the rocks, jetty, beach etc. It won't be used on a boat at all (I have my boat fishing well and truly covered).
I don't do a lot of rock fishing around perth, but figure i'm mostly going to encounter tailor, bonito, and perhaps the odd mulloway (if i'm lucky). as well as the usual whiting, herring and the likes.
I want to cast lures on the most part (as stated above), but also like to soak a bait. A 2 piece rod is a must for storage and transportation. I'd most likely pair it to either a 4000 or 5000 real that i've got now.
I'd give a budget between $80 and $140. I do prefer cork hand grips, but EVA is ok also.
What do you have, or what would you recommend.
cheers,
Justo

tuna skirt recommendations
Submitted by Rig on Mon, 2013-06-24 14:26Hi Crew
I have spent plenty of time over the years trolling around rapalas, halco's etc for pelagics but I have never tried skirts. I am interested in trolling these around a bit faster than lures and for when there is less chance of some mackies and more so tuna, bonito etc
Has anyone got any recommendations for some skirts suitable to be used around metro and maybe occasionally down south or to the midwest. Ideally I want to get them fully rigged but unsure of lengths and maybe some advice on colour
Cheers in advance

Hives from eating fish?
Submitted by Driftking on Mon, 2013-06-24 12:41hi all,
has anybody suffered hives from eating certain types of fish?
the reason I ask is that im new to fishing/boating,so we try eating nearly every type of fish we catch
just to form an opinon.
My daughter came down with a bad case of hives after we caught and filited what ive been told was a Sampson fish.
we eat sand whiting ,hearing all the time with out any probs, so I don't think it was a reaction.
any ideas guys?

Eagle Fishstrike 1000c
Submitted by wicked game on Mon, 2013-06-24 12:05Hey guys and girls,
i bought an Eagle Fishstrike 1000 a few years ago and I love it.
The only problem is that my old boat sadly sunk a couple months ago and along with it went all the Leeds I need for this GPS. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to where I could find new Leeds for my old faithful item. I've been told that these Leeds have been discontinued :(
if anyone could help me out it would be much appreciated
cheers.
