Fishing Discussion
This sport can kill ya.
Submitted by quadfisher on Fri, 2013-06-21 19:38Did anyone catch the small article in todays West about all those rec fishing deaths.
I also had thought to my self , that the number of accidents had increased, even just
in the last 12 months. There barely seems to be a week that goes by without a wave washing someone off
, a boat going down , or a fisho missing etc etc.
Any theorys? , is it just population, or maybe a lot of new people venturing out, or my
own theory, is that we are so sheltered at work, think s.o.ps ( safe operating procedures) and in
our daily lives ( think signs for every bloody thing), that when people go out they are just not prepared
for something so unpredictable and wild as nature?
And in the face of skippers tickets , updated epirbs and widespread g.p.s , shouldnt we be having less accidents?

Winter Bream
Submitted by Spinnerak on Thu, 2013-06-20 17:05With summer well and truly over I'm finding it harder to tempt bream around the canning bridge sort of area.
Is this just winter and the bream not being as active and eating as much or have they justy left this area?
Cheers, Andrew

Planning help for Warroora.....
Submitted by beachsoul on Thu, 2013-06-20 04:14Thinking about heading to Warrooa in Sept for a fishing / surfing trip. I normally head North earlier (May) and stay at Gnaraloo..
..but this year things got busy so I need to go later.
I have,nt been to Warroora before so some help on where to camp, launch etc would be greatly appreciated
- What is the beach launching like at the various launch sites available. We will be launching a 3.9 tinnie with a 30hp on the back....
- I would like a little bit of peace where i camp. Not in the middle of a tent city. So where to camp
- What are the winds generally like at that time of year
- Are their plenty of fish around then

Fishing rituals - have you got any?
Submitted by crasny1 on Wed, 2013-06-19 09:08Just wondering if anybody had some ritual/punishment.
On our boat if we dont catch a legal fish we call it Dacked. Whoever is guilty of that sin has to drop their dacks and do a 360degree turn. Doesnt have to be done in open public (in my case that is probably very wise) but it is considered bad luck if we dont for future fishing.
Also include a crab pot string that has no keepers.
I dont remember where it started, and how it started, but it was many years ago fishing as Uni student off Rotto when "brown eyes" were in. Now part of the boat, and everyone that comes onboard for a fish is informed off the rule. Places pressure on my mates.

Stradic vs Gosa
Submitted by CityFlicker on Wed, 2013-06-19 08:15Yes another stradic vs saragosa thread. I'm tossing up between a Stradic 4000FJ or 5000FJ & a Saragosa 4000F. It's primary function is for casting lures (mostly poppers & metals) at tailor & salmon & it will be matched with a 9ft FWA rod. I want the stradic for the extra 15-20cm line retrieve per crank but I want the toughness of the gosa because I do tend to get covered in saltwater from head to toe when I'm walking the reefs. I don't care about the 50-60g difference in weights. I can't make up my mind either way so I'm after a deciding vote here, the reel that gets the most votes is the one I will buy.
Thanks,
CF

Recommend me a cheap rod and reel (for boat snapper & the likes)
Submitted by Grumpysmurf on Tue, 2013-06-18 17:14Have been fishing casually and boating pretty much 30 years, but have never caught anything serious. Well I have caught some Sambos on a charter, and have hooked a tuna whilst coming home from Rotto, but that's about it.
I want to get a new combo with a very low budget that can motivate me to target snapper/dhu around the Sound or 5 fathom.
What is the absolute minimum (new or used) I should be looking at? What models and line weight? I want spinning as I have a couple overheads already.

Also what other tricks do you guys have to get the most out of the unit. I also only need it to go to a max of 35m?
