My new toys....
Submitted by Anonymous on Fri, 2013-07-12 15:29Anyone who knows what a fish is....will know what a Shimano fishing reel is. As Forest Gump would say "They go together likes pea's and carrot's", and I for one, have had the pleasure of using Shimano fishing reels since I was knee high to a Barramundi
Over the past week, I have had some absolutely amazing news.
I have had the pleasure of being informed that I am now in fact sponsored by Shimano fishing reels and have had a bunch of my reels upgraded as a result of this arrangement. Can I just say.....YEHHHAAAAA!!! I could not be happier right now.
I would like to thank the Dunphy family from Shimano Fishing Australia for this tremendous opportunity and wish Mr John Dunphy all the best in his retirement. A true pioneer of the industry.

Bag limit
Submitted by fab on Thu, 2013-07-11 20:42Mate and i are ready to go up north soon, and were wondering how much we are allowed to bring home between us, (if we catch anything that is). We are both keen to do the right thing. Any feedback would be awsome.
Cheers, Fab

Ravenswood fishing help
Submitted by choc on Thu, 2013-07-11 18:14Hi guys,
Its my dads 60th this weekend and we have booked a house on the river in Ravenswood for the whole family.
I have never been in this area and was wondering if there are any crabs or fish in this area this time of year.
I will be taking my boat for a cruise up the river so is it worth taking my crab nets and rods?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks guys
Submitted by salmonwanter on Wed, 2013-07-10 20:35To all those who told me how to use the baitcatcher rig to catch live bait and what to do with them afterwards. It worked I caught 8 small baits for me and my Dad then we set up 3 lines for the live baits. Several were taken and one went for a run then snapped the line. Sadly we didn't land any. I also caught two good sized herring and a smoking king george whiting that was big enough to take line of my rod while its drag was set quite high. Thanks guys
Steep point, Hartog etc
Submitted by Jsmolly on Wed, 2013-07-10 19:43Guys looking at mixing things up and getting away from coral bay, 25 year straight, and was thinking steep point etc. Some questions if I may (I did try searching!!);
- is there a ramp at steep and if so what size boat can be out in if its beach?
- is there a ramp at useless loop and if so is it public?
- if so, can you stay in useless loop or is it too far to travel to fishing ground each day?
i have done nanga and carrawang station many moons ago but don't know much about recent changes up there.
cheers

Steep point reds out wide
Submitted by Stimmsy on Wed, 2013-07-10 15:20Hi Gents,
Heading up to steep point for a 9 dayer at the end of august, taking the 5.4 runabout, had heaps of success in past trips in close to the west cliffs of dirky and the fault line but looking to go out wide this year a couple of times.
Any idea of what depth of water to fish for reds and other species as snapper baldies and macky seems to be the only thing in the engel for the trip home.....not that it is a bad thing
Cheers,
Stu

The Ashes: Do we have half a chance?
Submitted by Cardinal on Wed, 2013-07-10 10:55I believe we do
dont under estimate the Aussies. I think if we are half a chance it going to be the with ball. We have a great list of good pacey swing bowlers who can reverse it. I think the dangermen are Cook and Prior. If Starc can swing the ball early I think he can soften up Cook. I believe this series is going to make Starc a superstar.
Obviously Clarke is our dangerman. He must play all 5 tests for us to have any chance, he'll be lucky to play 3 with his back injuries. Watson and Hughes must step up to the plate. We must see out Anderson. If Hughes has a good series, we are in with a fighting chance, and watch out for Rogers too. He has now played a few seasons in the County league and will know the pitch conditions very well.
All and all I love being the underdog and I think the Aussies with send shockwaves into the England camp.
Cant wait!!

Fish cleaning stations
Submitted by Gav475 on Wed, 2013-07-10 08:59Just a thought. Would it be worth organizing some sort of collective opinion directed at the right people to attempt to have fish cleaning stations put in at all boat ramps, metro and country to help prevent the issues that were highlighted in the message to the grub. The added bonus would be monitoring of what is being caught where, which would help with research / management. Don't know who or how but our member for shooters/fishers party might be a starting point. Just putting it out there to see what you all think.

Charters between Two Rocks and Jurien
Submitted by buddharock on Tue, 2013-07-09 21:59Hi Guys,
Looking for some up to date info on charters operating in the areas north of Perth. Looking to book for 15-25 people (i.e. whole charter) and apart from a great day out, alos looking for decent fish. Dates we are hoping for are August to mid September.
Couple of questions;
1. Worth going out at this time of year?
2. How much will conditions affect booking?
Any thoughts appreciated. Have found this site invaluable for research into all things fishing, looking forward to replies.
Thanks

Daiwa Saltist LD reels
Submitted by ctan1968 on Tue, 2013-07-09 21:05Hello all,
I am in the market to move from my trusty Shimano TLD 25 + 24Kg broomstick to another combo.
I have researched the Saltist LD models and these seem quite impressive. My fishing is normally in the 30m - 40m depths and usually with baits. I do make an annual trip up to Exmouth where I fish mainly in 100m. My line is 50lbs braid.
Are there any anglers out there who can give me the pros/cons of this reel?
I would be looking at single speed either in 30 or 40 size.
Thank you all in advance.
Chris

message to the grub
Submitted by petermac on Tue, 2013-07-09 20:30I don't think the person responsible for dumping his fish frames on the Point Peron boat ramp yesterday is a member of this site but if he/she is next time dump them offshore or use the bins provided and not in ankle deep water on the ramp one of the frames was a nice snapper I hope you never get another one if I had seen you do it I would have bollocked you

Fishing trip
Submitted by Ash06 on Tue, 2013-07-09 19:56Off to quobba in a couple of weeks. Hope to get better luck than our last trip where we were confronted with huge swells, westerlies and dirty water meant no fish. Has anyone been to or knows of anyone that's been there recently. Curious to know how people have gone.

Large boat sinking off Garden Island
Submitted by Willy on Tue, 2013-07-09 16:27Whilst leaving from work this afternoon from Garden Island, just crossed the High level Bridge when I saw the flashing lights of a Police water vessel. I then saw he was trying to tow a vessel in obvious distress. There was no way he was going to make any headway as the vessel was well down by the stern. The vessel was approximately 200 meters off the bridge, in Cockburn Sound.
The vessel looked quite new, I guess 7-9 meters long and had a flying bridge. A very nice looking vessel, felt sorry for the owner. Don't know any other details

Lost Gear Yanchep Lagoon last night
Submitted by JamesB on Tue, 2013-07-09 08:31Hi there
we were fishing beside a couple of blokes at Yanchep lagoon last night.
When they left they forgot a lot of gear:
empty drink bottle
plastic bags
unused bait
broken rod holder
cigarette butts
used glow sticks
We collected it all, and if anyone knows who this is, we'd like to return it to them
cheers
