asi groyne
Submitted by hilly9 on Mon, 2013-07-15 16:39Had a fish at the asi for a few hours early arvo but didn't even get a nibble. Can anyone tell me how far along the groyne I should be fishing if walking in from Clarence beach road or is it better these days to access the other rockwall from the boat ramp side?
Cheers

Where have all the fish gone?...
Submitted by Flyboy on Mon, 2013-07-15 16:08Hi All
Just joined and hope to learn a few tricks.
bought a Baron Sportsman about 6 months ago, and refitted it with a Suzuki DF140. Have been out with it almost every second week, but you think I was able to catch any thing other than a dozen Wrass.
My deckie was given a list of co ordinates that encompassed the 5 fathom bank, Carnac, GI, west, south and se of Rotto. We must have fished at about 20 of the 35 given, and the only area we got any fish was on the 5 fathom bank WRASS and WRASS. We have used squid, ockki and mulies on our trips as bait.
Frustrated I have not gone out with the boat for 5 weeks now. Would appreciate any pointers as to how to catch a descent feed, squid or any thing else but Wrass.
cheers

New fish trafficking offence and new infringements from DoF
Submitted by jigsaw on Sun, 2013-07-14 16:40Ten times the bag limit of priority fish species or 100 kilograms of finfish fillets have been set as limits deemed to be a “commercial quantity” that would trigger a charge of fish trafficking for any person not authorised to be in possession of such a large amount of fish.
Department of Fisheries Strategic Fisheries Policy Manager, Nathan Harrison said the new offence would attract a fine of up to $400,000 for an individual or $800,000 for a body corporate and/or up to four years imprisonment.
“This is the first time the option for a magistrate to impose a jail term has been used in relation to the illegal sale of recreationally caught fish in Western Australia,” Mr Harrison said.
“It will give Fisheries and Marine Officers (FMOs) another effective way of cracking down on black market fish trading in the State and it won’t require proof of a sale.
“The priority species include Roe’s, brownlip and greenlip abalone, barramundi, coral trout, WA dhufish, baldchin groper, all rock lobsters and pink snapper. These are the popular, high value, fish species that are most likely to be involved in cases where individuals are in possession of very large quantities.”
In addition to the new fish trafficking rules, Mr Harrison said new regulations also came into force this month that have created a new tier of infringement fines to more effectively deal with mid-range offences without the need to take a matter to court, if the offender accepted the fine.
“Infringements are currently issued for a range of bag and possession limit offences and for taking totally protected fish – including under or oversized fish – and the new, second, tier of penalties will kick in when more than double the bag or possession limit is detected, or where the number of totally protected fish exceeds the bag limit,” he said.
“The outcomes of a tiered infringement system will deliver a swifter way of dealing with mid-range matters and reduce the time spent by FMOs compiling prosecution briefs, getting them back on patrol more quickly to continue monitoring the State’s fisheries.
“In the West Coast Region alone it has been estimated this measure will provide another 1000 hours of FMO time that can be spent in the field educating fishers and carrying out compliance checks, rather than preparing documentation for the courts.
“As with infringements issued now though, people who receive the new infringements, ranging between $200 and $1,000, still have the option of taking their matter to court if they choose to.”

Deep drop perth ?
Submitted by eltaco on Sat, 2013-07-13 08:49Hi all , just looking for any advise on setting up me boat for deep drop out of perth , I've looked at a couple of reels round the$600 -800 mark ones a daiwa and othe shimano . I have a Tiagra 50w and 30w that don't get used and have seen a adapter and motor that converts them but not sure of the price ,looked very pricey. My big question is , is it worth spending a fair chunk of coin on these set ups ? is it a massive hit and miss out there in the deep, long way out . Pretty excited to try it anyway , what depth works good out here I launch from Hilary's up to 2 rocks , do you look for structure or drop offs ? A lot of questions but any info would be much appreciated cheers . And if anyone knows of some electric reels for sale yell out

snapper/ cockburn snapper questions and queries.
Submitted by Markie on Sat, 2013-07-13 08:16Hey lads have bought mi first boat not too long ago and it sure does get some use haha. I have basically only been chasing cockburn sound pink snapper and squid skippy n herring so far.
My third trip and we got into some good pinks from 70 to 80 cms for two days in a row only to go back again n catch nothing but rays n banjos again and again.
I have started to try a few new spots doing the usual thing and only to catch banjos again.
I went out last night found a new little lump holding fish on it and anchored. Now the big rods werent going off but whilst bait fishing i was catching small pinkies. Does this have any connection with the bigger ones? will they eventually or at times hit this spot or means nothing?
Also catching annoying butterfish at the time what do u guys think of butterfish as fresh pinky bait if u run out of ur own supply?
Hope can get some feedback, Marko

exmouth peak sports fishing jigging shesh :-)
Submitted by EL SYD on Sat, 2013-07-13 06:24
after having a great time getting smashed by GTs, Eddy thought it would be even better to get the guest onto some dinner , Andrea and pete never having jigged for bottom species before and having all the top gear Eddy gave them a crash course in 'jigging' and they were away .
This was Andrea's chinaman jigged up on a fcl sling 250gr jigg on her synit razar nuron flow.
pete got himself a nice coral trout , but only after a struggle as something else down there wanted it as well, againg the fish was caught on the fcl sling jigg on my old 150gr JM powerspell, love this little rod.
Downagain they go double hook up, this time a pair of healthy rankin cods
as for me, well I caught a nice coral trout but its on another camera and those two dont want to give me the image..... how nice are they :).
but its great to see first timers catch fish on the jigg.
Anyhow hope you enjoyed the pics, we're having a great time and I'll post up the marlin session later,
cheers syd

i have to start all over again
Submitted by dakka on Fri, 2013-07-12 21:42
howdy all
As i have lost my fishing spots in warnbro / rockingham due to hand held gps crapping itself on me. i have to start all over again, but this time i want to get a combo unit, my boat is only a 4.5m ally runabout so we dont go out too far but i did have some good spots on the 5. i dont want an el cheapo one and not a top of the wazza one either as i only go out to the 5 and wont be able to justify the $ just to go there. so my question is is thre a decent combo unit for around $700 that i should have a look at, any input would be appreciative. i need to start sounding for spots again soon when my tax comes in.
cheers

Coral Bay fishing info please
Submitted by beeroclock on Fri, 2013-07-12 18:02Gday - have searched the previous forums and found lots of info already. Just wondering has anybody fished in the area north of Batemans bay sanctuary zone inside the reef? i see it gets to 20m in the middle there. Im looking for places to take the boat out when the wind is too strong to go out wide just to chase fish with the kids and maybe get a feed of emperor and anything else living inside the reef also anywhere recommended for squid jigging please

My new toys....
Submitted by Anonymous on Fri, 2013-07-12 15:29Anyone who knows what a fish is....will know what a Shimano fishing reel is. As Forest Gump would say "They go together likes pea's and carrot's", and I for one, have had the pleasure of using Shimano fishing reels since I was knee high to a Barramundi
Over the past week, I have had some absolutely amazing news.
I have had the pleasure of being informed that I am now in fact sponsored by Shimano fishing reels and have had a bunch of my reels upgraded as a result of this arrangement. Can I just say.....YEHHHAAAAA!!! I could not be happier right now.
I would like to thank the Dunphy family from Shimano Fishing Australia for this tremendous opportunity and wish Mr John Dunphy all the best in his retirement. A true pioneer of the industry.
