Shark Bay Cockles / Pipis
Submitted by Francis on Tue, 2019-08-06 23:05Hi folks,
Might be a silly question and apologies if it is - but I’m in shark bay for a week with the fam (not a fishing trip) and the 2 1/2 year old found a whole bunch of good size, empty cockle (pipi?) shells on the beach right in Denham. So im curious. Is there a good feed of cockles to be had here? Does anyone know if getting a few good cockles in shark bay is common ?
im also trying to find out if blue rings are a risk here as the little one loves walking the shallows and investigating everything. So while I’m asking the locals if anyone has an opinion, then happy to hear it !
Thanks !
Mick

Wet box install recommendations
Submitted by CD on Sun, 2019-08-04 11:41Hi guys
I’m having issues getting readings from my sounder over around 15 knots. It’s caused by the mount for the transducer which is pretty crap. Rather than replace the mount I figured I’d just go for a wet box install. The boat is a Haines 580 breeze and is running a TM260. Can anyone please recommend someone who could do the wet box installation for me?? I’ve searched on here and can find people who have done it themselves, but couldn’t find recommendations for places that do the installs.
Any help would be great.
Thanks

Feathers / Foil rigs
Submitted by the_lane on Thu, 2019-08-01 09:55Hi,
In the UK we used to drop 4 hook rigs with feathers or foil and concistently catch Mackereal, Cod, Ling, Whiting. Not seen these types of rigs used anywhere in Perth. Are the fish here a bit smarter than to chase tin foil?

anyone in the southern suburbs have a 100L ice box I can borrow this weekend? Preferably around Bibra lake or thereabouts. Happy to throw youse a 6 pack, fillets, or some crays for your efforts.
im heading away for a long weekend. I have access to a 150L, but I think it’ll take up too much room in the boat.
Cheers boyZ.

Dont turn your back on the kids!
Submitted by Swompa on Mon, 2019-07-29 13:05Or they will out fish you!
Young bloke was extremely happy with himself to land his first squid. I was looking at something out the back of the boat and hear a small splash, similar to the sound of him casting. Turned around to see him lifting a squid over the side!
He was very happy with himself and everyone within half a mile of us knew how proud I was of him!
At 2.5, he cant properly form a sentence but can say "I caught squid by myself"
He ended up with a pair and I got nothing....
This is why I fish for the future and pick up rubbish when I go to the beach.

9-10ft heavy duty overhead rod suggestion
Submitted by snuffs on Sat, 2019-07-27 11:27Gents,
Looking to purchase a new heavy duty overhead rod to expand my drone fishing fleet. Must have pre-requisites for this rod are (a) must must be between 9ft and 10ft, (b) must be overhead not spinning (c) must be at least PE6 with fast taper. This rod will be used with my electric reel (twin tanacom), with PE6-7 braid, and will be droned out 800m+ with heavy baits and sinker. Must be capable of bringing in 15kg+ fish at almost full drag.
I’ve got it down to either a custom built OZFlex or looking at the Daiwa saltist Hyper 962XHB, but not sure if this can handle the load over the 800metres. Thoughts?
Most land based game rods like Wilson Live Fibres are too short as length is key for me.
I use (and am very happy with) the Daiwa Jewel 15kg 9’6 as my drone spinning outfit but they don’t make an overhead.
Must be a two piece for car travel purpose.
Many thanks
John

Noisy people on the water
Submitted by meglodon on Fri, 2019-07-26 10:39Ok all you fishos and boaties that enjoy a day on the water with the radio pumping out hit tunes at max volume (b ecause there is only one volume to play rock and roll at and that is max right)
knock it off ok.
Latest research says you are contributing to the death of rock lobsters. Well that is what an article in the latest edition of the Mandurah mail informs us (see article bottom of page 50)
Give me strength here.
Chamber music only at a soft volume only please

Some forward thinking in Portland Vic
Submitted by Alan James on Sun, 2019-07-21 16:08as Portland abolishes boat parking fees. WA next, I think not.
Edit - my wife is from Portland and as a result I get updated on the local fishing scene especially when the SBT are about. Portland has done a remarkable job in recognising the money that fisherman bring to an area. Many fishos travel from Melbourne some 4 hours away. The ramp facilities were originally basic but these have all been upgraded and extended such that there are now numerous finger jetties and probably 6-8 launch and retrieve ramps. Many locals have embraced the opportunity to cater for the influx of fishos with accommodation, boat storage, food and of course tackle shops extending opening hours. I believe hot coffee, bacon and egg sandwiches and lunches can be purchased at the ramp when numbers are up. Good on them for recognising the money fishos bring and welcoming them to their town.

New art works
Submitted by millsy on Fri, 2019-07-19 18:35Hi Guys
We have a new range of fishing themed collapsible fire pits on offer. Plus most AFL teams, some racing teams and a few other designs.
Our fire pits and metal art are designed from 3 mm Corten steel. They will get a nice surface rust but not actually rust.
Our full designed pits are temporarily reduced to $130.00. These pits are 500w x 500d x 400h
We can also customise the designed pits with plain text words for an additional $20.00
We also make a smaller plain pit for only $100.00. This pit is 400w x 400d x 400h
Once you are finished, the fire pits can be collapsed into 5 pieces for easy storage.
We also now have our first garden art design of a Kookaburra. This Kookaburra is $50.00.
These can be also posted for an additional postage fee. More Australian Animal designs coming.

landed some good reds some belter goldband and plenty of others in between
found a few new marks that held fish over a couple of days

Surprise catch
Submitted by Ericl on Fri, 2019-07-19 15:32Got a pleasant surprise yesterday while squidding off Hillarys.
Was a slow day with not many squid and just before heading back to the ramp, my rod starts to go off. Knew it wasn't a squid, but certainly didn't expect to see decent flathead come alongside the boat. Stevieboy grabbed the net and luckily managed to land this very nice 50cm flathead.
Nice end to a nice day out with Doug and Steve

Shark shields while fishing below 25m
Submitted by Meeuwissen on Thu, 2019-07-18 10:12As the title suggests I'm gonna have a crack using a shark shield for some off my bluebone marks that I often get sharked Ive spoken to a few people and they have recommended to run the the shield 3/4 of the water column. Has anyone done this effectively. Any feedback or advice would be much appreciated. I will put the results in after the trial.

Any luck FFB lately?
Submitted by beau on Wed, 2019-07-17 14:19Looking to fish a little bit further out than what i have in recent months, just wondering if anyone has had any luck on Pinks/dhus/sambos on the five lately?
Looking at anchoring and burleying first thing in the morning then heading out wider as the wind drops. Moon phase not ideal but with things quiet at work and a good forecast its hard to go past.
Cheers
