Considering purchasing an exmouth holiday house
Submitted by Riles on Fri, 2019-06-07 03:49G'day guys,
As you probably picked up from the title I'm considering purchasing a holiday house in exmouth that I could move into permanently when I retire. Not for a while yet
. Ideally it would be a house on the marina. I've got a few questions I thought I'd ask first before I dived straight in.
Firstly, I would love to get in contact with anyone who may own a similar holiday house. I'd love to here your experiences with it and some things if any I should watch out for. Happy if you would prefer to shoot me a PM and possibly discuss over the phone.
Secondly, for all of those people that travel up and down the coast staying in holiday homes (I've done my fair share lol), what are some things you look for and and prefer in your holiday houses?
Thanks in advance

I would personally like the Yamaha as i trust the reliability.

Shelter Bay Question
Submitted by Belly Fish on Thu, 2019-06-06 10:49Hi all,
I'm due to go to Shelter Bay this Sunday for a week.
Seebreeze for Shark Bay is not that representative of the conditions out from Steep Point, so I'm taking my readings from Gnaraloo....I'm assuming that reflects better what we might see in the open ocean.
The swell is pretty big...looks like 4 metres or so at least Monday and Tuesday before dropping off Wednesday. Can't see beyond that.
I'm hoping regulars to the area can comment on what swell makes the crossing over the fault line dicey.
Will 4 metres cause the fault line to break right across. Also, if we just stayed inside, does any of the ocean swell cause any issues in Shelter Bay?
Hope someone has some experience with this.
Cheers

GME Ebirb replacement
Submitted by paul d on Tue, 2019-06-04 12:05Not sure if this is common knowledge but if your epirb was bought from 2012 and it's battery has expired you can drop it off at GME in Bibralake and they will send it away for battery replacement and service for no charge and it will be delivered back to your door. Thought i was going to be up for another new Epirb.

Gnaraloo 2019 report
Submitted by sea-kem on Mon, 2019-06-03 21:39So many times heading up that way we all pray to the weather gods for at least 3 days of good fishing weather. Well the prayers were answered this trip and we walked into 6 days straight of awesome weather, and fished them all.
Day one:
Out to the 65m mark and it was a very slow morning with only the two Rankins on baord till around 2pm then the Reds came on the bite and nailed 4 good fish around 5kg each.

And wings for the BBQ washed down with a Chardy = livin.
Heads were kept for a Vietnamese friend of mine.

Day two:
Sunday probably the worst for the trip, 8 hours on the water for one Spanglie had a us scratching our heads wondering what we were doing wrong, but was heartening talking to ther blokes up there that they weren't faring much better.
Day Three:
Monday, slow again with a few bits and Pieces until I decided to mix things up a bit and start floating some mulies, within 5 minutes it was action stations as we nailed two 15kg Spaniards and a smaller model.

Day 4:
Tuesday:
Beautiful weather again saw us going wide and trying lots of spots for not much, once again a few bits a pieces until this beast hit my bait in 70m which I took for another gear destroying shark, when I saw him 20m down my hear lifted and I prayed he was under the magical metre. He came in at 997mm and just over 16kg. So happy not have to put him back over the side and try to release.

Day 5:
Wednesday, so it was forecast a glass off and it truly did. We had been talking to the lads next door who had been fishing out in the 100m mark so though I'd give it a crack. It's nigh on 37km so thought we'd stop in 65m first for a drop. First drop good fish dropped second drop shark so the mind was made up head for the 100's. Literally threw a dart at it with no marks and telling the boys to prey for any sort of flare up. So first drop within a minute I was on and my first ever GoldBand, it was then on for young and old with fish after fish. Double header's and just a good all round assortment, we'd finally found the honey hole. That bit of ground is now well marked each end, funny thing was nothing showed on the sounder but it was loaded. Left em on the chew so to speak after bagging out.

Day 6:
Weather not so kind but still a couple of finishing fish for the bag and time to rest up a couple of days and drink the beer stocks ;)
As mentioned on antother thread the track snapped the rear cross members of my trailer so had the ratchet strap it all together and get home on a wing and a prayer.
Onwards to 2020!

Refueling
Submitted by SeperateKnob on Mon, 2019-06-03 06:36I was wondering how everyone else goes refueling their boat. My boat is 6m and seems to struggle negotiating it through the servo on the cheap fuel days. I usually get the odd glance and sometimes receive a polite word regarding being in the way.
How do the guys who have a big 7m plus platey go refueling? Is it just me?
I hardly ever see any other boats at servos am I missing something? Jerry cans?

Deck Cleaner Recommendations
Submitted by stumpie on Sun, 2019-06-02 09:41Hey Guys
The deck of my boat is disgustingly dirty. It's stained with squid ink, grime and heaven knows what else.
I used to use Peter G's Kleen a Hull but wondering if there's anything else I should consider. I noticed Whitworths sells 3M Perfect-It boat wash has anyone used this before and would you recommend it.
Many thanks folks.

Question
Submitted by maldugs on Wed, 2019-05-29 17:22Hi everyone, I had a 21ft Northshore in the late 1990's I used to go out sea from Freo and Hillarys no problem, I sold it when I had a back injury in 1999, 3 years ago I got the bug again, and on an impulse I bought a 4.88 Quintrex sea breeze, I have mostly fished in the river, Walpole, and Mandurah, I am getting the urge to go out from Hillarys again, do any of you here go out from Hillarys in my size boat?
Regards Mal.

Lewmar winch not dropping anchor
Submitted by black gen on Sun, 2019-05-26 17:23Have a lewmar 700 series and today it would retrieve the anchor no dramas but wouldn’t let me drop the anchor down. Was occasionally tripping the fuse on the way down
would let out about 300mm of chain then not go any further
just wondering if anyone had the same problem
seems to be an issue with the clutch maybe
found it weird that it would drag the anchor in no drama but couldn’t drop it down at all had to do it manually
any pointers be much appreciated

How to purchase a child RFBL through DOT?
Submitted by selthy on Sun, 2019-05-26 10:38My daughters RFBL has expired and need to purchase a new one through DOT. Have now registered for a DOT account, however when trying to buy a license for her I do not get the option for a child concession, nor be able to put it in her name. My license expires on the 12th Jan just 1 day before the DOT cut over date, so I can't add mine first to see if it would allow a child license to be added afterwards.
Has anyone successfully purchased or renewed a child RFBL through DOT?

Exmouth fish filleting
Submitted by Paul_86 on Sat, 2019-05-25 15:10G’day, I’m off to Exmouth in a few weeks time for a fishing trip, just wondering if anyone knows anyone up there who fillets peoples fish for cash?
I’m ok at filleting although it takes me a long time, but my mates coming with me have never filleted a fish before, so hoping we can pay someone to do it for us if we have more then a couple of table fish.
PM me if you prefer
cheers Paul
