Catching Whales
Submitted by Madmerv on Sun, 2015-02-22 12:21As i'm to illiterate to post a photo in a reply i have to start a new thread about this whale hooking.
End of last winter off Two Rocks, 30m, bottom bashing with bait.
Jock (strange name for a scotsman) got the hit of his life, with the line just peeling off. He was sure he had the biggest fish and was sure a PB was coming his way. I hauled in my line and was getting the deck prepped, gaff etc, but noticed his line, still peeling off, coming towards the surface. I ran for the camera so i could get that spectacular shot of a jumping fish. Both of us now screaming "it's going to jump".
When this whale surfaced i lost it and so did Jock. You can imaging him in a broad scots accent "Fuucken hell i've caugh a fuucken whale"
He locked up the drag and snapped off with just his hook and leader staying with the whale.

a mixed bag of fish...
Submitted by turtl3tim on Sun, 2015-02-22 00:22talking to the local tackle shop, i shared how we had - wot i perceived to be 'a great nights fishing' with a mixed bag. we caught numerous tailor, silver bream, banded sweep, herring, eightbar cod and almost something massive which turned out to be a dolphin...
when i bought up the eightbar cod he said its not good to see many of those around?? could someone shed some light on this for me please?
btw i have officially been outbreamed by the wife to be - she caught a thumper at 42cm off the rocks in the port, my pb was 38cm. the thing violently shook itself off the hook while we were trying to get some happy snaps, the next 10 mins were spent getting grazed, cramped and saturated while crawling under bone crushing sized rocks, trying to get it back into the water. i always thought bream were a river fish, i was dumbfounded when we were catching them in the port.

Paradise on earth, Coral Bay....
Submitted by tailor marc on Sat, 2015-02-21 12:48Hey guys, i just retured from a week in Beautiful Coral bay. We had 7 days of 40+C . Hot Hot Hot!!!
I did lots of landbased fishing, got longtom, flathead, dart etc. Lots of BIG bust offs.
Im putting together a little video of the fishing and holiday but in the meantime i thought i would share with you the best photography i could manage with new equipment. Im in the process of working out some deals with tour companys and lots of canvas sales etc
The highlight of the trip was being in the water with a 3-4 meter Tigershark, swimming with mantas and turtles. What a trip and great weather!!!!!

MKR Burley
Submitted by Jason P on Sat, 2015-02-21 09:08Inspired by MKR and made some new burley as the freezer door was left open and all the various fillets had defrosted.
So took the old Burley as well combined it with the new burley to make a super burley, at least thats what i hope.
Its a Combination of Mulies, shark, herring, skippy, prawns, squid, dhufish, wrasse, rabbit pellets, pollard, fish oil, water, aniseed and the new special ingredient - 3 tins of whiskers. (geez that whiskers stinks)
Minced it the mincer, and mixed well with a paint mixer which worked well.
Just have to see if works as well as hoped.
Does anyone have a Burley special ingredient that they swear by?

What Top Shot?
Submitted by burnz on Fri, 2015-02-20 19:36Hi all. I have a TLD25 on a short overhead that i use for a bit of LBG ballooning and fishing from my kayak, and will do some bottom bouncing in future with it. Its spooled with 40lb braid but recently lost a bit to a boat that ran over my line so gonna put more line on so i got max capacity. Should i just add more braid so the line will float for balloons or top shot with some mono for stretch and line sink? And if mono which? Thanks
Brett
Submitted by VaSSagO on Fri, 2015-02-20 18:49Any tips for getting to the top of his to do list?
I know he is really busy but 6 weeks ago he said our new motor had arrive in Perth, we dropped off the boat and he took off the old motor.
As you can guess I am getting pretty frustrated with the same story... "Busy..next week" or "busy...don't know" or "didn't actually get your motor...don't know". So another couple of weekends of chores around the house, fun times.
Rant over

Need keen fishing partner
Submitted by burnz on Fri, 2015-02-20 18:13Hey all, new member here.
Im looking for a new fishing partner, my missus doesnt like me going alone all the time and sick of taking my other mate thats a keen fisho because he always wants to go home early. So im looking for someone that can sit there all night without catching anythibg and still not crack the shits.
Lately i have been doing alot of live bait fishing / ballooning, i dont have a boat but i do have a kayak which is handy to row baits out. I also have a 4wd. When i fish, i fish til sunrise, everytime.
Im a 23 year old pretty laid back keen fishermen, just moved back to Perth, usually fish around Rocko / Freo so if anyone wants to go have a bash for some Noahs while the weather is still warm let me know.

Compleat Angler Nedlands
Submitted by Matt K on Fri, 2015-02-20 00:55Been a few threads of bad/lack of service at a few chain stores so I thought I'd write a postitve one and give the guys at Compleat Angler Nedlands a big thumbs up!
Went into the shop a few days ago to buy a new Daiwa Seajigger rod plus some braid and as always greeted with friendly & knowledgeable staff that were genuinely happy to help. Was initially going by the specs of the diameter of the braid to fill a spool but took the advice of the staff there which proved to be spot on. Did me a very competitive price on top as well :)
Cheers fellas will be seeing you regularly!

High quality cryovac machine?
Submitted by black gen on Thu, 2015-02-19 22:04I'm in the market for a new cryovac machine
ive been through a few brands and continually they seem to burn out after several months
we do a fair bit of fishing and diving but always use my machines and they cop a floggin
does anyone else have this same drama?
The household type machines just dont seem to cut it
whats your opinion on a low end commercial type machine that wont burn out and die in 6 months
may cost a fair bit more but I'm sick of replacing them constantly.
cheers

Compensation for Sanctuary Zones in Southwest Marine Park.
Submitted by Howard George on Wed, 2015-02-18 16:12Today in Busselton there was a meeting between the commercial fishing sector and Govt. officials discussing possible compensation for loss of fishing spots because of the sanctuary zones and it raises the question whether or not the rec-fishing sector should get compensation for the same reasons. I believe they should especially for the loss on the end of the Busso. jetty which will become a sanctuary zone because a lot of us have poured considerable ammount of funds into maintaining the jetty.
