Is a 1KW Transducer worth the $$ for 40-50m of water?
Submitted by Braxi on Fri, 2011-09-02 00:16Im a bit torn with the transducers. I was sold on the 1KW Airmar In Hull transducer but I was told that at 30-50 metres it read quite a narrow beam. I heard that the 600w are still ok and have a broader beam. I have looked at their website but not having too much experience with these a lot of it doesnt make much sense. Is it worth spending the extra $$ for the 1KW if im not fishing deep water?

Wilbinga / Loonies / Flat Rock
Submitted by pembo6 on Thu, 2011-09-01 21:06Hi all. I am after some advice regarding the type of terrain in getting to the general Wilbinga area north of Two Rocks.
I am a very inexperienced 4WD'ver with a 2004 model 3 litre turbo diesel GU Patrol.
How hard is it to get to the beach from the main road (Wanneroo Road)? I have plenty of mudmaps, aerial photos etc. So I have a fair idea of where to go.
But what it she terrain like. Is it suited to a fairly inexperienced driver. I am hoping to drive around till I find a nice easy track to get down to the beach.
Basically it is a case of taking the wifes car (usually does the school run etc) and not scratching it to bits or getting it bogged up to the axle in the middle of nowhere. Happy wife....happy life !
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Tackle stores in KL Malaysia?
Submitted by scano on Thu, 2011-09-01 19:10Hi everyone,
first off I did have a search on here using the search function but could not find much related.
I am heading to Kl with the mrs and whilst there will be wanting to check ut what they have on offer in some of the tackle stores.
Can anyone on here recommend any (names or vague locations would be great).
I believe that middle of the range Shimano and Daiwa gear is made in factories over there?
also Xzoga rod blanks and TenRyu rods ect.
I will mainly be looking to pickup what ever rod or reel bargains are on offer (more top end stuff)
and stock up on braid, lip grips, plastics ect.
so if anyone has been over there before and knows of some good tackle stores to grab some good bargains please let me know
many thanks
Scano

new breaming reel
Submitted by Spinnerak on Thu, 2011-09-01 18:21Hey guys,
Going to get a new reel for smaller stuff, a strict $300 budget.
Will mainly be used for tosing small lures for bream and flathead, and also in the kayak for whiting and small kingies.
Ideas atm are:
Shimano Stradic ci4 1000
Shimano Twinpower 1000
Daiwa Caldia 1500
Any others that might be suitable and any reveiws on these reels would be greatly appreciated
Cheers, Andrew

the new toy for my tub
Submitted by fisho-ron on Thu, 2011-09-01 17:58ok.. so i could not wait any longer...eventually it was going to get done??
started looking overseas for the 1kw tranny for my hds10 and it looked like thats where i was going to get it from(ebay)
until thanks to Bruno from Allboats sent me a email in regards to the tranny i was looking at and done a very good deal i couldn't pass up on.
there is some conflicting info from a range of people in the know, some say waste of time in less than 100mtrs, some say it will improve things allround in all depths with a huge differance in detail and sensativity!!
it is a generic type so if i ever change to a furuno i just need a new cable that plugs in.
only one way to find out for myself hey?
much better to buy local and any problems the guys arnt to far away to chat with, but it dose come down to price and i must thank
Allboats again for doing the righty on this.
now to find myself the bigger dhu's

a complete waste of time?
Submitted by grayzeee on Thu, 2011-09-01 17:05would it be worthwhile towing the boat up to the coral bay / exmouth area in the first couple of weeks of november , or are you just going to get blown away?
have to take the holiday then , but would rather not waste the towing fuel if it's gonna blow big time!

It's possible the boat we were going to use has developed a problem.
If you have a 22ft+ boat with good range and want an all-expenses paid fishing holiday AND you can leave on Tuesday ...

1 or possibly 2 Anglers wanted - Jurien jig/plastic charter with Whitey
Submitted by dkonig82 on Thu, 2011-09-01 13:30I have booked another charter with Whitey of Seasport charters in Jurien Bay.
If you are not familiar with the boat, do a search on here and see the dozens of great reports.
I'll be putting up a report soon about our trip last weekend, but basically we got 21 dhuies, 30+ sambos, 3 baldies, snapper, blackass, etc etc.
I have booked for 2 October - yes this is the day after Grand Final, so hangovers are to be expected :-).
I am going to pay up front for the whole boat, so there will only be 8 on the boat. Cost will be $250 per person including lunch etc.
Should have 1 or possibly 2 slots free, so anybody who is keen please send me a PM.
Will need a 50% deposit to hold a spot, as I am paying up front for everyone and cant have people pulling out last minute. Deposit obviously refunded if trip is called off due to weather.
Plan for the charter is 100% no bait, so will be plastics and jigs only. Looking to get a few decent dhuies, then maybe jig for sambos, YTK etc.
Cheers
Dan

Understanding Bag Limits Gascoyne Region
Submitted by Aaron Santos on Thu, 2011-09-01 12:18Hi all,
I have done a bit of search and Im still a little confused about the bag limits. Myself and 5 other mates are taking 2 boats up to Coral Bay in Nov ( bit of luck the wind gods will be on our side) otherwise just be fishing the inside of the reef of good days. After reading the through the WA Fisheries Rec guide for the region I would just like confirmation that, if I had 3 licenced anglers on board does that mean we could catch 21 high risk species (keeping to fish bag limits) or is there a boat limit I havent found and read yet. I doubt it very much we will catch that much anyway.
Hope this is not a stupid question, I just want a sound understanding befor heading up there.
Cheers.

Fishing up North
Submitted by Swan River Fisher on Wed, 2011-08-31 19:00Hey guys,
This school holidays, I'm going up north to Broome, Exmouth, Kalbarri etc and was wondering what to catch, gear, good charters (can't take the boat because we're going on a cruise...) I really want to catch something decent because whiting and herring can only get so big!
Most of the fishing will be land based.
Cheers

The Good The Bad and the Ugly Old Fart
Submitted by UncutTriggerInWA on Wed, 2011-08-31 13:49Geeeeezzzussss. I caught up with Rig this morning for a session which didn't produce much at all unfortunatly. Nice to finally catch up with Rig though. Anyway, as it goes I left my ignition on and the demister drained my battery. Big fucking deal! I have a dual and Rig was able to come alongside and use my jumpers to get the girl back in action.
ANYWAY next I receive a text from Herbie Sherbie laughing at me and claiming Rig needed to recharge my pacemaker. FFS is there no privacy at all these days? Are those low flying planes part of Herbie's secret intelligence network? LOL Paybacks are a bitch Herbie.

How would you like your recreational fishing license money spent?
Submitted by MattG on Wed, 2011-08-31 12:22Following the introduction of the Recreational Fishing from a Boat license in March last year, the contribution made by recreational fishers to the Recreational Fishing Account (RFA) increased significantly. To date, over 110,000 boat fishing licenses have been sold. This leaves recreational fishing in a prosperous position, as these license monies will be put towards funding mangement, research and project initiatives to benefit recreational fishers across the state.
Recfishwest is seeking the views of Western Australia's rec fishers on how they would like their license money spent?
You can make your views known by completing a quick online survey.
