tm 260 placement help
Submitted by Ryan C on Thu, 2014-02-20 08:36hi guys , ive got a furuno 587 with a tm 260 on the back of my 8m ali , i had it installed by Ben from fibrelite (recommended by Rhys at furuno) and while the install was great and the unit is excellent at lower speeds , i can only get a good clear reading at up to 18 knots. (20-60m of water) i understand 100m+ depths require a slower speed.
i have moved it down twice slighty and made an ali plate to stop the roostertail off the tranny hitting the side of the 250 yami my question is should it be angled down at the rear ? and if so how much? and how far under the hull should the bottom face of the tranny be?. (i am fairly certain i have all the settings right after having quite a few guys familiar with furuno in the boat and Rhys's help from furuno.
any help appreciated

GPS's replaced by Apps?
Submitted by elliotbirch on Wed, 2014-02-19 21:19Hi guys, just bought a secondhand 2006 Stessco 4.7m centre console with a 50hp Honda and the bloke that previously owned it out his heart and soul into building it into an excellent boat. The only thing lacking is that the GPS isn't all that great. I have looked on the App Store on my ipad and the 'Marine:Aus and NZ' app seems really good for $50.99. Does anyone use their ipad/iPhone as a GPS and have any good apps to recommend as it seems like such a cheap and good value for money investment?
Cheers!

Free diving. How much weight?
Submitted by Fisher Kid on Wed, 2014-02-19 18:06hi guys, im really starting to get into freediving and spearfishing, got everything exept gun, and weights. Ive got the belt, but I was just wondering how much weight I should be carrying. I wear a 2-3mm wetty, and I weigh around 85kg. ill be diving for crays and spearing in no more than 10-15m. Ive heard that for that kind of body weight id be looking at around 4kg. I can get 2 x 2kg weights for around $20. But is that enough?
Any advice greatly appreciated.

GPS/ sounder or two units
Submitted by rossco21 on Wed, 2014-02-19 15:29Hi guys, just want people's opinions on whether it is worth running a separate sounder and GPS or just stick with one unit. Currently have a hds 5 combo. Have the option of getting another hds 5 sounder only. What's your thoughts? Run two separate units or save my money. Cheers for your input in advance

Yanchep lagoon
Submitted by bojan2008 on Wed, 2014-02-19 08:54Thinking of going yanchep tonight, has anyone been there recently, if so had much success? I haven't really fished there before. Was thinking of trying around the groyne or just south of it.
Would it be worth chucking some lures out or just stick to bait?
Cheers

deep water point boat ramp
Submitted by petermac on Tue, 2014-02-18 18:52used the deep water point boat ramp last Friday for the first time , I cant believe the Melville council has the cheek to charge people to use it the facility is a disgrace the ramp itself is as slippery as an eel and has no wash down facility . I spoke to a ranger that was at the ramp when I coming out and he said they get dozens of complaint's about it but council refuses to do any thing about , Guess when some one gets hurt on the ramp and they get sued they will do something about it

The FAD's off Bunbury
Submitted by FergusonV on Tue, 2014-02-18 12:24Does anyone know how the FAD's off Bunbury have been fishing since their contruction?
Im curious because they have been down for nearly a year now and they are not too far off shore. The only post I could find on the forum is about their construction and what people expected.
Any knowledge on the subject would be really appreciated.

27 Mhz Radio
Submitted by doublej on Tue, 2014-02-18 08:49Hey all
I'm chasing a 27 MHz radio.
Went to test mine today and it's f&cked.
Probably should use it more than I do.
Anyway I need one for the Rotto swim and though I'd ask here first before outlaying for a new one.
Maybe someone has an old one sitting in the shed.

Greenhead / Leeman
Submitted by crespo007 on Tue, 2014-02-18 08:01Hi All,
Myself and some mates are heading up to Greenhead / Leeman in a few weeks time with a couple of small boats (4.0-4.5m). Does anyone have any advice on ocean conditions for boats on the smaller side? I know it can get windy up that way and want to play it safe.
Also, any tips on good depths / directions (not asking for specific spots) would be a greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
J

Worth the day off
Submitted by sea-kem on Mon, 2014-02-17 18:55Took Friday off because it was looking damnnn good. Left home at 4.30 am and headed up the coast with my young fella and had the boat in the water by 7.30. Checked the pots after 3 weeks and managed 5 size bugs. I had a strategy to hit the mid 20's and a bit of ground that's had success before. Had made up a burley bomb and dropped that down with the pick. Within 5 mind my little demon blood took off and a few minutes later a nice Pinky followed by another not long after. Then something huge hit the deckie's rod and after a few ball tearing runs he lost it so more kicking of the inside of the boat lol. We headed out to the 40's and produced the Baldie before the wind started howling around 11 so decided to head in for beers ;)

pulling others crab pots
Submitted by jighead on Mon, 2014-02-17 18:52I live close to the murray river in north yunderup and put four crab nets off the bank today. I go and check the every half hour or so and only look for a few for a sandwich. The spot I put them is communal so I have no problems sharing and if somebody is fishing before I get there I ask first and then only set to the outer edges as to not interfere with them. Most people are really good and leave them be but some peope can't help themselves and think it's okay to check them for me. Often the nets are no where near where i threw them. It just frustrates me that's all.

Shark Shield subsidy
Submitted by paulbazza on Mon, 2014-02-17 09:21I see Mark McGowan wants to offer a subsidy on the purchase of shark shields.
http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/21500029/shark-shields-safer-than-drum-lines-labor/
I wouldnt mind a subsidy on my epirb, life jackets, flares, marine radio.........
They should place signs along the entire coast "use at own risk!"
