Brown water
Submitted by rtomkyns78 on Thu, 2017-03-02 08:07Just wondering if anyone knows if the brown water is still hanging around in the sound and between the islands. Don't seem to be having much luck fishing in the brow murky water.

Axiom
Submitted by gruntre69 on Thu, 2017-03-02 08:00I was going to post this on my other new sounder shopping thread but it probably deserves it's own topic.
Comments anybody?
The iminent release from RM looks interesting. Competitive price, one transducer for most applications, and the big one for me is gyro sensor built into the 3D transduser with a very powerful processor built into the unit to output the roll, pitch and yaw compinsated picture all in 3D.
If this works anything like they are sprooking I will probably go for it. The problem as usual is the only thing you ever see is demos from yanks fishing in shallow flat lakes in the states.

Murray River / Peel Inlet, WA ....any good for long weekend [?]
Submitted by backlash on Wed, 2017-03-01 20:29As per the above post we will be heading that way for the upcoming long weekend.
I've never explored the system, but I also have read of the recent fish kills due to the massive runoff due to rains
So - is it worth hitting the system or heading out into the bay if the winds are favourable ?
I'll be in the tinny (4m)
Cheers

Boat Mechanic Required
Submitted by TGMitchell on Wed, 2017-03-01 15:22Hi
I've got an old fibreglass outboard w. 1980's Mercury 90Hp on it.
I have ripped out the old cable steering and tilt motor and have purchased a hy-drive hydraulic steering system and a new tilt motor but...
I don't have the time to put them in. I need a good reliable mechanic to put them in for me. I have been to a couple of places and have been given the run around.
Any ideas please?

Submitted by Gonad Man on Wed, 2017-03-01 14:53Hey guy's,
Managed to put a fairly deep scratch into the side of my glass boat at a ramp last weekend. Does anyone know of anybody who does fibreglass boat repairs in the Bunbury area? Tried the local fibreglass business but they're booked out until June!

Interested in a second boat to tag along.

If anyone is keen, drop me a pm with your details

Murray river
Submitted by little johnny on Wed, 2017-03-01 10:30Went over to Murray last week 4 nights 5 days .( mildura) house boat.We fished pretty hard everyday and night. Both myself and walfootrot . Took our partners also.Man just a great river totally destroyed by carp. River full of yabbies and shrimp also. Still had a ball ,great scenery all the way. People where also fantastic and friendly. I already new carp where bad prior to going. But didn't expect such huge numbers. All went on bank ,just knocking them on head not good enough there eggs could still hatch even if dead in water.

Kalbarri Fishing Questions
Submitted by Hook_er on Tue, 2017-02-28 10:20Hi Lads,
Was going to bring the tinny up and have a bash in the Murchison -- just wondering what effect the rain has had on the fishing??
Can anyone give me any info on what its like up there -- Do you get many Muddies or are they hard to come accross.
Also are there many fish on the chew in the river? super frother but havent ever been there so any info would be greatly appreciated.
Also can anyone recommend deep sea fishing charters? Even if there are any locals keen to take me out if i flick you some coin - wouldnt mind getting some Rankin and other Northern species.
Cheers fellas!

Hello from the East
Submitted by Bugman on Mon, 2017-02-27 06:55Hello,
New member Brett here.
Just thought I'd introduce my self. I'm a fisho from the East based on the NSW QLD border but am planning a trip of the lifetime to the Kimberley and Pilbara region anf then home via the Gibson Desert and Canning Stock Route.
I have been reading the forum for a while but thought I'd joing to share in some reports as we go around.
Currently I have a few fishing boats including a 26 Grady White Cat, a 5m Brooker Discovery and 3 smaller tinnies. We will be taking the Brooker with us on the journey. I have one son who is only 10 but is as keen as a fisherman as you would find and luckily a wife who loves getting out on the water as well.
You guys have got heaps of info here on the boards and the pictures and the reports from the Kimberley and Pilbara are amazing. We can't wait.
Here's a couple of our images from the East.

New sounder advise
Submitted by gruntre69 on Sun, 2017-02-26 23:16Hi all,
I'm in the market for a sounder upgrade and I know this subject gets thrashed to death but I'm interested in opionions. My budject is max $4000
I have a 5.75m Cruisecraft outsider with Simrad NNS7 Evo1 with standard P66 triducer. I admit that I'm not vastly experienced with using sounders but I'm convinced this setup is not that good. (have read John Adams)
Intended use is: Trying to accurately place Cray pots (40%), Fishing bottom 25 - 200m (35%), Looking for bait and trolling for pelagic (15%) finding dive spots (10%)
What I like about this setup:
Mapping with navionics card is really good
It networks to the vessel view 7 giving 2 similar 7" screens, although the sounder and nav are slightly different.
I like the ability to scroll back through sounder history and mark and store waypoints from the sounder screen easily. The waypoints are available to the network
The simrad gear is pretty easy to drive
What I dislike about the setup:
The screen size is too small for the sounder but I can live with it for navigation
My boat is smallish and suffers with rock and roll causing deteriorating sounder readings as conditions deteriorate
The definition/resolution of the sounder is terrible
The bottom discrimination is virtually non existant
The sounder when on the Simrad unit has major interferance when the key is on (Need the key on to run the Vesselview with the nav screen)
The menu options on the Simrad sounder are very limited, it has no white line function and the bottom lock is rubbish
I have read a lot of opinions about sounders on this forum which has lead me to desire Furuno gear but I'm still hesitant. I wish there was a way I could test an upgraded transducer for the NNS because I'm reluctant to spend money on this system when I don't have complete faith in the company along with the bad wraps that Navigo recieve. My preferance at this point is the 588. The transducer is the hardest decision but I want 1 Kw.
I really like this boat and it is probably a long term keeper because it is a great compromise BUT it is smallish and light weight causing it to suffer when over 12 Kn wind. So I think Transducer placement is critical. I really don't have much room for a through hull (flush mount) but could possibly fit one and am not apposed to it if the results would be improved. I also like the security of it and I'm thinking it will be better than a transom mount in rough water.
So if I go with the Furuno 588 Can you guys who use these tell me if:
There is any memory function? Can you scroll back and look again at ground you have seen that has already past off the screen?
Can it work easily with the TM260, plug and play?
Can you use a TM265LH broad band with this just using 50 and 200 khz (More expensive but more future proof if chirp ends up on the boat)
Is there a TM260 equivilent flush mount through hull transducer that would work better?
Is anybody using one with the markfish NMEA interface to mark waypoints directly from the 588 screen
Is there much other stuff I need to think about or consider. I haven't really looked much at Garmin or Raymarine stuff....

"Shark fishermen in violent clash"
Two locals hospitalised, at least one 'fisherman' taken down to the east perth lockup. Morons.
It's up to all of us to stand up to this behaviour whenever we see it.

HDS8 bracket and knobs

Rod failure
Submitted by Naitanui_ on Sat, 2017-02-25 19:38So i've had quite the 24 hours, started with a massive high after buying a Demon blood 762xh and a 10000 saragosa for an upcoming trip to Exmouth to throw stickbaits and poppers. Loaded it up in the store with the salesman along with 4-5 others in the price bracket and it felt really nice, strong as an ox, the parabolic action something to behold. Then this morning happened! My mate come past to have a look so i grabbed it out of the bag for the first time since i got it home, handed it over and let him load it up in the exact same manner as the salesman in the store. Rod butt dug into his hip and rod tip touching the carpet and as the weight came on....crack! I couldn't believe it, my heart sank and i instantly felt sick in my stomach. I collected myself, called up the store and took it in for them to check it over.
Because it failed directly above the foregrip where the blank slides into the butt, the storeman said it makes it very hard for a warranty to be approved but took my details anyway and i left it with them.
So i'm a bit lost as to where i stand exactly and if i even have a chance of getting a replacement or repair done. The rods beautiful and would be more than happy to get a replacement but after speaking with the salesman i'm bracing for the worst and walking away at a loss.
Thanks in advance

Best Overhead Bottom Basher Reel
Submitted by JohnF on Sat, 2017-02-25 14:54Righto, been done to death but I will revive it as I am heading up to Exxy in April and need a strong overhead for bottom bashing to drag the reds past the sharks.....
A few things to note:
- I want overhead, I have plenty of both spin and overheads so know the pros/cons. Overheads have much more cranking power and easier to feed line back on the drift.
- I don't want too slow or too fast a retrieve. Something slow like a TLD are obviously hopeless, but I have great little Trinidad that has 6.1:1 ratio and over 110 cm retrieve per crank and it is too fast for heavy lead. Around 85-90 cm per crank or around 5:1 ratio. Similar to a jig reel.
- Need 15 plug kg drag as I want to run PE5/6 braid.
A single speed Talica 12 would be perfect.....BUT.....I have used one and they are a tad too fast at 104 cm per crank and just dont have the crank power I want. The two speeds are no good, low peed is useless. Shame, these are a great reel otherwise.
I looked at a Tyrnos 16, but at +800 grams, too heavy.
The difference the right crank speed makes to a reel is the difference between the go to reel and one that sits against the wall for the next 3 years with the rest of my flawed purchases.
Cheers
