Dunsborough beach fishing
Submitted by pierson83 on Mon, 2017-02-06 12:43Hi All,
I'm down in Dunsborough with the family all week and was hoping to do a spot of fishing from the beach. I've got my little fella with me, so was really looking for something with easy access and probably targeting Whiting. We're staying on the beach in Old Dunsborough with the netted area in front of us.
Has anyone got any advice on where we can cast from, times of day and species we might be able to target?
Thanks in advance.
Ben

Where are the Tailor - Hilaries Rockwall
Submitted by Lowza on Mon, 2017-02-06 10:07Went down to Hilaries Rockwall, last night to flick some mulies for some Tailor after reading multiple reports of fish in the area.
Conditions were perfect after sunset bit of chop on the water rising tide, besides seeing one snook landed before the sunset. The water was absolutely dead couldn't even lose a mulie if you tried, no blowies or peckers it was seriously strange!
Whats going on!

A Very Proud Dad
Submitted by Mick C on Sun, 2017-02-05 19:37Very proud of 11 year old Sarah being awarded the MAAC Junior Champion for 2016 at the awards function last night. Her yearly points tally also gained her the runner up award in the Ladies Division.

Thanks to Dean and Wal for the awesome trips on Y-Knot for a lot of the comps, and supporting Sarah throughout the year. She landed some great fish and her skills just kept improving to the point she could land just about everything she hooked - there were some classic battles.

A boy at school told her that girls can't fish - yeah right mate, this girl can.

This weather
Submitted by luke george on Sun, 2017-02-05 09:33Has anyone else noticed that this summer has been blowing its ring out every other day? Definitely the worst I can remember for winds, I'm struggling to even find a day for a snorkel/swim. Now it's February and we're looking at 20knot winds all day every day, with the upcoming weekend raining and 21°- 23° =-O
I was set on a Mack this year but if this keeps up I'll be settling for an extended salmon season :'(

Marlin at the trench
Submitted by resurgence on Sat, 2017-02-04 21:19Rough conditions offshore today, but a few crews ventured out. One boat raised two fish, and tagged a blue marlin estimated at 180kg.
If you want to chase some billfish for great prizes, there is still time to enter the PGFC Marlin Cup.

Shark fishing north of two rocks
Submitted by baptiste on Sat, 2017-02-04 18:42Hi guys,
I do plan to go north of two rocks, probably Wilbinga for a couple of days.
I really wish to hook on a sharky. Did anyone caught some there? i plan to either balloon the bait out or using the kayak to do the job.
What is the best rig? bait? do i need to berley? i heard that some people use tin of cat food...
Is there a season for shark fishing around perth or are they there all year around?
thank you for your reply
Penn Slammer III
Submitted by TJ on Sat, 2017-02-04 15:00Has anyone tried the new range of Penn Slammer III reels?
I just had a quick look at their website, and their 9500 model can put down 27.2kg of drag force. Holding 670 yards of 65lb braid. In comparrisson, a 10000 Stella produces 25kg drag, and holds 506 yards of 50lb braid.
The difference probably comes in the weight of the Stella, plus an extra 8 bearings.
I know I'm not comparing apples to apples, but at a third of the price, I wonder if anyone has put one through their paces.
They also do a 10500, that produces 27.2kg drag

The Carnarvonite
Submitted by Mick C on Fri, 2017-02-03 14:38I have had the pleasure of dealing with John (carnarvonite) recently over a knife issue. John lost his favourite knife of many years (I’ll let him tell the story if he wishes) and we needed to source the identical replacement.
It is fair to say it was a bit of a challenge to find the knife and get it to Perth. We thought we had it, but when I sent it to John the knife was too short (18cm). We selected the right one (25cm), but it had to be “imported” so took some time to arrive. Happily, the order has just turned up.
This knife is a “beast”. It is the ultimate big fish processing knife, and no doubt would work well with most animals. 18cm and 25cm blade models are shown below.

We have affectionately branded the 25cm knife as “The Carnarvonite”. All the selection work has been done by a legend, and out of the hundreds of knives you could choose from this is a very good one for the purpose of processing big fish.
$110 retail and it will last a lifetime, if you look after it. Our specialist fish processing retail knife selection, to cater for different requirements, is now complete.

Novice needs help with new gear
Submitted by stumpie on Fri, 2017-02-03 10:41Hiya Guys
I've got a new 6-8kg line rated rod matched with a 4000 series reel and using it mainly for demersals e.g. pinkies, dhuies etc. I'm using braid for the first time (20 lb) and planning to put on a fluoro leader (40 lb). I need some advice on the following;
1. How long should my leader be? I'm thinking about 2m...?
2. I'm planning to use a double uni knot to join the 2 lines, would this be strong enough?
Cheers

Product Development - Final Burley Log Configuration and Wholesale Bait Offering to Tackle Shops
Submitted by Shore Catch on Thu, 2017-02-02 17:39We have been working to refine our wholesale packaged bait and burley products.
One of our “missions” has been to produce high quality fresh fish based burly in Perth, and our interim products have gained good market acceptance so far. Our medium sized burley offering will be 100mm diameter x 200mm long logs, frozen and vacuum sealed as this is a good size to suit the majority of existing burley equipment. The “recipe” for the mulie shred blocks and the minced fish/tuna oil/protein filler blocks has been carefully developed and tested by many customers, and we have evaluated the requirements, and nuances, of wholesale supply over the last six months. We are ready to make these products our “standard” burley log offering to tackle shops.
We have also refined our wholesale bait offering. We will not replicate any products currently offered by WA Bait or Early Bird Bait but focus on the quality “processed” and vacuum sealed items that you currently cannot buy at retail outlets. Our list is nearing completion and will be sent to shops soon. If you would like our products at convenient locations, ask your local shop staff to contact us.
Our wholesale baits will fall into the following categories:
Fin Fish Fillet – Mullet fillet (1kg and 0,5kg) and Bonito fillet (0.5kg)
Cephalopod – Whole Shark Bay Squid (1kg and 0.5kg), Shark Bay Squid head and tentacle (0.2kg), Shark Bay Squid cleaned tubes (0.2kg), small whole NW Cuttlefish (1kg and 0.5kg)

Crustacean – Peeled Coral Prawn (0.1kg)

Bait Packs – Beach (0.5kg), Inshore (1kg) and Offshore (2kg)

Our wholesale fish based burley products will be:
Shredded Fish – Mulies, Tuna, Mullet and Mixed Fish (1kg)

Shredded Mulies Block – 1.5kg and 5kg
Fish Based Minced Burley Block – Mixed Fish (50% mulies), Tuna Oil and Protein Fillers (1.5kg and 5kg)

We will also offer the shops occasional products on seasonal availability, and can supply others on request. Currently we have Storm Garfish at 4-6 fish per kilo (while stock lasts).

Our retail outlet in Wangara stocks a larger range of retail bait and burley products and you are certainly encouraged to contact us about this, or come and have a look.
Thanks for your interest, and as always any comments or suggestions are welcome.

Last minute sounder help
Submitted by jeddddy on Wed, 2017-02-01 19:20Hi all
Heading out to the look in the 40s tomorrow off mandurah as the weather looks awesome.
The last couple of times i have been out this far my sounder, Lowrance Elite-5, only reads in water less than 30m deep, and doesnt read at all after driving at speed for a while. Taking its time to start reading again in the shallow water.
I have tried changing the sonar settings when im out there to a lower frequency, or as the sounder says "its deep setting."
Has anyone had a similar issue because it woudl be awesome if i could get it going for tommorrow.
Cheers

Bent Street Ramp
Submitted by Tom M on Wed, 2017-02-01 14:34Well looks like the public have scared the local council with dredging coming to a stop today only half way done. Contractor packing up, so guess we the local ratepayers will still cop the price for the whole project plus I understand from the contractor that council is going to reclaim all the dredging spoils from the beach and relocate, that is another huge cost. Well thought out and planned project again. Expect this will have a significant impact on the viability of this ramp.

marine radio gme
Submitted by Shane O on Wed, 2017-02-01 13:51Hi guys,
went out this morning and have never had the need to use the radio before as we were in the canals, went to go out of the estuary and the radio would power on but nothing else. had a look under and the wires in the photo came out(the end coming from the unit not the aerial side). we not attached or had corroded, would this be a good reason as to why there was no sound?
Also the metal bit that screws into the back of the unit looks like it has been broken, it holds in place without being screwed in so i think that is ok.
