Crabbing Scenario
Submitted by chris raff on Thu, 2013-11-28 10:594 persons go to mandurah in the same vehicle .. two go in the boat and get their 20 the other two scoop landbased and get their 20 . All legit , but once we are ready to go fisheries decide to knock on the window and check with 40 crabs in the esky , yet 20 is the max on a boat. The onus would be on us to prove we caught them separately if the officer decided we might be telling porky pies for some reason . Obviously to eliminate any drama is to take two cars , but not really wanting to . Might be overthinking it , but not wanting to chance a hefty fine if this scenario did eventuate .
Any thoughts ?

Submitted by DaddyDan on Wed, 2013-11-27 20:03Hi all,
I have just booked a house boat for 1 week in waikerie south Australia for next June.
I know it is ages away but it has been 5yrs of hard work to get there.
so the plan is to dive over fish the great Australian bite and then a week in south Australia then a week fishing on the way back.
can anyone suggest any good spots that are on the way?
what type of gear I should take for the diverse fishing styles?
best lures for especially the Murray cod ( bucket list fish )?
and types of species I will find and or target on my way?
thanks guys any questions just ask!

Navman Sounder Plugs Broken - Please Help?
Submitted by collie5 on Wed, 2013-11-27 15:37Hi everyone.
Can anyone tell me where I can get my Navman sounder AND my Navman chartplotter fixed. It stopped working a couple of months ago. Please see photos below.
The first issue is that some of the copper lining in the plug holes is corroded and broken so it cant form a connection with the pins (photos 2 and 3). The entire plugs need replacing.
Second issue is that the plastic on the back of the screen which holds the plug in place is broken so I also need to get this replaced (photos 4 and 5). The plug pulls out when I am smashing through waves.
I thought Navman would probably charge me a fortune so I was wondering if there is anywhere else I can get these fixed?
If anyone can help I would really appreciate it.
Thanks
Collie

Shovels away
Submitted by cell on Wed, 2013-11-27 14:55was a nice long wk end for me having friday and monday off decided it was time for a decent beach fish pack the cars and the whole family were off to mandurah for the day/night went to tims thicket n abit south of that got nothing but reef and lots a couple of rigs. lil brother in law got a couple wirra. and thats it. at least the kids got to have a play in the white wash coming up the beach. Anyway come 7pm moved to dawsville cut for a nil zip nudda there too.....starting to think was a bad idea to go down that way.....mother in law made a chicken soup at the cut was awsome in the cool southerly....next spot any ideas an dolphin quays pops up, anyway headed down there as a last resort still no fish. rigged up had a bait cast got two hits thinking ok maybe fish here......was wrong once again. stuff this I grabbed a handfull of mulies and whole baby squid n went for a walk. 2nd cast FISH ON!!! reel screaming and still no idea what it was. gaff at hand finally managed to get the bugger near the rocks and a decent 1.5m or so shovel nose pops up. happy was an understatement since we had no fish to take hm. The shovel nose went approx 30kg was heavy as sh!#. anyway got back to the car cleaned her up and covered her in ice...
we ended up all movin to the spot I was at and managed to catch 3 more shovels all a tad smaller then the first with plenty of whiting around stripping your baits on no time(if only I had brought the lighter gear).
All In all was a relaxing day and night eventually got hm round 230am for shower n to hit the sack. will think about going back there but for now unless u can show me where the fish are I am yet to get a decent feed out from mandurah. no offence to mandurah FWers. it is a nice place n all.

shark deterant
Submitted by petermac on Tue, 2013-11-26 19:30shark shields might work , but the most effective thing I have seen that works on sharks particularly nosey 14 ft tiger sharks is a home made smokie , forget those 12 gauge ones you can buy they are to heavy and a pain to fit just make your own up that slip up your wetty sleeve

King George Advice
Submitted by Tradewind on Tue, 2013-11-26 18:45Hit the Southern Flats last weekend for squid and king george
Targeted the areas where sand & weed meet and i've seen them there in calm conditions before
Did manage to get one sized and one undersized but we got absolutely smashed by Butterfish. There were blowies but managed to keep that down by putting a berley bucket against the boat as soon as they turned up keeping them close by while casting away from the boat.
Anyone have some advice on avoiding the butterfish to increase KG catches or is it just par for the course on Southern Flats & Parmelia bank?

The new Daiwa Blast
Submitted by just_fishin on Tue, 2013-11-26 15:32http://daiwafishing.com.au/blast/
Has anyone used these yet? I wanted to get the 4020PE-SH to match with one of the new Lateo's, possibly a 5-9kg or might even go 4-8kg.
It will be used for throwing lures off rocks and the beach, should I be okay?

Ladders
Submitted by Body Plus on Tue, 2013-11-26 10:36Hi guys
We are looking to buy a sturdy ladder for the boat. We have seen plenty of strong looking aluminium ones that are attached to the boat.
Are these custom made? If so can anyone advise where to find the makers?
Thanks

Dongara
Submitted by PT on Tue, 2013-11-26 10:08Hey guys, I'm most likely heading up to Dongara for the first time in mid december. I was wondering whether anyone a bit more familiar (or local) could let me know what the conditions are like around this time.
I've done a bit of reading up on spots like the 7 and 9 mile beach as well as the s bend but im still not sure whether they have signs or whether they're just nicknames for spots. Could anyone she some light or give me some pro tips?
I've just bought my first 4wd too and im pretty keen to have a bit of fun with her =D Any local 4wd tracks or recommendations?
Also, should i stock up on bait down in perth and bring it up or should i just bring up plenty of beer?
Last question, any good spots for free diving for crays from the shore?
Cheers fellas

Shark culling.....
Submitted by beachsoul on Tue, 2013-11-26 06:07I see no problem with culling sharks. We cull kangaroos, emus and I'm sure some other harmless species whose only crime against humanity is to chew up some grass or some crop or another. Some people will kill snakes even. We are in their DOMAIN........
Sharks on the other hand are killing people. We have been going into the ocean from day dot so why not make it a safer environment for us to enjoy our passions.

night diving
Submitted by petermac on Mon, 2013-11-25 18:54being as I have never dived for crays in the south , what is more productive diving for crays night or day diving , up in the NW we always found it was better to dive at night when chasing crays ( I don't rate NW crays as good as crays down here though)

landbased lure reel
Submitted by gazman on Mon, 2013-11-25 18:35I wondered if i could get some advice on what 4000 sized reel to get for chucking lures landbased. I'll mainly be using slices and plugs with the ocasisonal popper and plastic. was looking at the smallest sized spinfisher v but probably too heavy. also curoius about the okuma salina, heard some good things about them. looking around the $200 range but that budget always seems to stretch when it comes to new gear, and if I know im getting something that will last I dont mind upping the budget a bit.
