Yellow Fin Tuna

Hi all - couldn't resist posting a pic of my Yellow Fin from out the back of Rotto last Friday...

Caught on a spinning rig with 20lb braid. He tipped the scales at a whisker over 40lbs bled and completely burnt out and seized the drag after the first massive run.  Pretty happy to get him in the boat.

Cheers,

James

Canning Bridge Report

Hey guys. hit up Canning Bridge this morning with scottland. Armed with Prawns, Crabs, Mf40's, TT Blades, Vibes, sx40's and plastics, we were pretty confident that we were gonna catch something!  i opened the account with a 24cm blackie, who gave a good account for himself on the 1-2kg Nitro. at the same time, scott managed a similar sized one. first picture is of my first. it went dead for a bit after this, with a few small ones falling to prawns, then a decent fish lost on a gulp Fat Sandworm Neries. the small bream kept plagueing us, along with blowie after blowie. finally i got a big run, hooked up and following a very good fight, i had my biggest for the day at 31cm. noticed something black protruding from its ass and it turned out to be a rather large peice of mussel shell. took it out and it started to bleed everywere. the second picture is that bream. sorry about the blood. Scott later managed a mother of all grunter, biggest i have seen in my life. forgot to measure him, but got a picture instead. keep in mind, scott's hands arent small! got a few more smaller ones until we decided to pack it in and head home. was a wicked little session, and great weather to boot!

My first Rotto Marlin

Hi All

Caught this IP Blue Marlin on Saturday morning just North of Rotto in 35m! It took a small tuna pusher (blue & purple colour). Est. weight 50-60kg. Great fun on 10kg rig. Swam off in good condition. Great day out with some nice SBT too.

busselton mackies

A mate showed me a picture of his brother inlaws spanish macks caught in busselton from his zodiac on thursday. 5 that day a couple the day before all good size. i think im the only goose working through all this action, its killing me coming home every night and just looking at the boat sitting there in the drive.

Jurien Marlin

Hey Guys

With all the talk about marlin in jurien and the great weather that was predicted for thursday we decided to make the drive up for the day. We left at 3:30 and had the boat in the water at 6 rigged and ready to go. I had never been fishing off jurien before so just headed out and B-lined it straight to the fad. Once i got about half way i noticed the birds working and bait on the sounder so decided to put the pushers out, before long we have a big run on the long corner untill that came unstuck. Another hour passed and the long corner went again, this time with a 60kg black jumping and going nuts, we got all the gear in and proceeded to gain line when again the hooks came unstuck, i assume this little bugger wrapped the leader not hooking up. We trolled around for the rest on the day, dollies where shut down and tuna where very flighty, around 1:30 the shotgun went nuts with a black jumping out the back, before long we had a black landed, few snaps later and he was released to fight another day

got 28.2 degrees of water out there.

fish was caught on richter oscar jnr 502/506, the other two fish were hooked on oscar jnr 605/922 and a Polu Kai caveman 9in evil

heres a few pics

FINALLY CAUGHT SOME TUNA!!!!! THANKS TO NICK

Went for a troll with Nick Hocking as our teacher and ....well all i can say is THANK YOU, i finally got to take the family home some fish for tea.

We ended up catching 2 blue fin tuna and 2 striped tuna. Wow the striped tuna run. Talk about addictive.

Fast fish rule

Headed out to West End today in search of some of those metro macks with Grame (Uncle on here) and his mate. I haven't targetted them properly before so was keen to drag a few lures around chasing them.

Seabreeze was looking a little iffy changing to a less favourable forecast but the weather ended up being great out there, with a bit of breeze as we got back to the three mile.

Water was a whopping 27.2degC so we knew we were in with a chance. Trolled around for a bit to no touches but then one of the lures started screaming off and Mladin landed a very nice mackie that ended up going 18kg and 147cm. Not a bad way to start the day at all.

We dropped the pick and berleyed up for a bit but the damn mutton birds meant a floater was out of the questions so we trolled around a bit more after that and managed to pick up another one. It actually came to the boat with its neck cut, which was great as it came pre-bled (and we didnt have a knife, just managing to do with scissors on the last fish).

Trolled for a bit and got a nice strike on my lure, but unforunately didnt hook up. Tried for some tuna on the way back, but not much luck (saw a bit of bait though). Back at the ramp at 2pm, so not a bad day at all chasing the silvery vistors from the north.

Latest Dongara Plastic Mission..

Hey fellas, well time to post my adventure from yesterday 27/2/2011..

This time I decided to head out to the 40 - 50m banks and look for any lumps or coral that show up on the HDS..

5am start saw a pretty confused sea with a 15 - 20 knot sw/se wind makin for a choppy ride out in the Quinny, but the forecast was for the wind to drop to 6 - 10 knots and the ocean to flatten out and by 9am it was starting look a lot better..

The weapons of choice for the day... STELLA TIME...

So the ocean calmed off nicely and first fish of the day went to Mrstwitchemup with a healthy 65cm Pinky..

Not long after I nailed this fat as Toona on a 6 inch placcy mid water on the jig.. We could see the Tuna darting around about 15m under the boat..

My mate Mak (Fishncrazy) the pinky whisperer with a solid 75cm Pinky jigged up on placcy in 47m..

Mrstwitchemup with a fat as Break Sea Cod that nailed her 6 inch Mcarthy paddletail..

Up next was this Stonker 60cm Red Throat Emperor that drilled my placcy on the drop...

More Pinks we had a double hookup on solid pinks this is my 72cm 4kg model on 6 inch nuc chick...

And the other Pink from the double hookup.. 82cm 5.5kg Honky..

Mak's Tuna that he nailed by winding his 6 inch plastic up off the bottom (no time to tie on a slice) and casting it at the Tuna School as they quickly past the boat...

And to finish of the day I caught this 10kg Dhu mid water in 45m on a 145mm Squidgy Flick Bait (pilly colour)

It was a great morning session back at the ramp by 2.30pm and in total we caught 6 x Dhus 50 - 65cm, 7 x Pink Snapper 60 - 82 cm, 4 x  Baldies 45 - 50cm, 2 x 60cm Red Throat Emperor, 2 x Tuna and a Break Sea Cod all on plastics.

Cheers for reading the report..

Two Rocks Trolling

With all this talk around about Metro Mackies we decided to head up to Two Rocks on Sunday and see if we could manage to troll up a couple.

We got the boat ready and were in the water by 7:00am, a quick run through the minefield of cray pots that were out there and we had the lures out the back in 30 metres of water.

Within 20 minutes of plodding along at 5 knots, both my mates TLD and my Saltist ratchets screamed which definately shook the sleep from my eyes! After the intial run we knew we had hooked a couple of SBT. The fight wasn't much to write home about until these little guys see the boat, then BANG! they get a second lease on life. The big one ended up weighing in at 4.5 kgs and the smaller one at just over 3 kgs.

Those fish gave us a bit more of a morale boost so we continued to drag the lures around for awhile longer. Within another 30mins we had hooked up again with another SBT. This guy actually put up a bit more of a fight than the previous two with a couple of good runs, again near the boat before we tailed him and poped him in the esky. So out go the lures for one final go and hopefully try and tease a mackie into having a crack, and Bads reel screams off with a decent run. I was definately thinking this is what we have come here for, but we will never know as the fish swam towards him and the hooks fell out! Spewin'!!!!! After having another go for a couple of hours with no hits just lots of weed we decided to have a crack at some greenbacks on the outer reefs that were breaking.

First cast with a 30g twisty and BANG!......... a nice litle chopper is on board. With the Tailor smashing the baitfish around the reef we were taking turns at flicking twistys and poppers at them, hooking up every cast! On one of Bads' turns, he cast right in the wash and hooked up to a decent tailor that was damn fat! Estimate it around 1.5kgs.

After an hour of hookups every cast, the tailor went quiet so we headed in to the shore side of the break to see if they had moved and we were plagued with herring. I have never seen herring this thick before they were going crazy right next to the boat, there were hundreds of them going nuts! after mucking around with them for a minute or two the SW came in and we decided to call it a day.

So we didn't get any of these Metro Mackies but still a great day out on the water in anyones book with a nice feed of fresh tuna steaks to follow.

Saturday dhui

Left woodman point boat ramp at 4.45am. Headed staight out to the 45mtr mark. Fish was showing on the sounder but wouldnt bite, finally found a nice lump in 48mtr of water. picked up a nice 6.5kg dhui at 75cm on a fanky jig also picked up fairly nice sized flatty (realeased)

Quick Jurien trip

G'day everyone,

Well after trying to get a spaniard in the metro area for a few weeks now without succes I decide to do a quick trip upto jurien bay for friday arvo/saturday morning. Me and a mate arrived up there friday arvo around 4:30 and had the boat in the water by 5 heading out into slightly choppy ocean. Being in a 5m ally runabout there was a fair bit of banging but we were both pretty keen for an arvo troll so we continued on. As we got to some deeper water out near where the reef drops off we set out a few lures and began trolling. bout 10 minutes past when we seen a group of birds diving so we turned and headed in there direction when the orgasmic sound of a reel screaming sent us from cool and calm to panic and mayhem! After fighting the fish for 3 or 4 mins we got our 1st look and couldnt believe our eyes, a big dolly lit up 5m's from the boat, the heart raced as we got it closer and finaly within gaffing distance. My mates never gaffed a fish before so when he swung it like an axe and tapped the fish on the head it went nuts and off for anouther run. This happend 3 more times until we finaly got it into the boat. STOKED!!!

Measured 1100 to the fork and 11kg's on my non calibrated scales. Great fish and a 1st for me anyway. Oh and in 18m's of water!!

Heart still racing and in disbelief we set the lures again and within minutes had an 11kg spanish mackeral in the boat

Sorry about my mates strained face, the mackie went alot harder then any mackie ive seen for its size!

So we set began to set the spread again but before my mate could put the 2nd rod in the holder he was on again but handed the rod to me coz he was still sore from the last fish. a few moments later we had another smaller spaniard of around 8kg's on board.

The sun was getting low now and the tummies were rumbling so we headed in feeling pretty proud of ourselves and still amazed about what we had just caught.

The next day we decided we had got our pelagic fix so we headed out in search of some tastey bottom fish. A nice calm ocean and no wind ment we had almost no drift out in 50m's. We found some new ground which looked to be flat coral so we stopped the boat and had a drop. instantly we got a few tiny nibles, but not to be fooled i gave it some ilne and waited patiently and then felt a solid tug and was on. Up came a nice pinkie of 60cm's. Another drop and me and my mate were both on at the same time and a nice pair of baldies hit the deck. we decided to mark the spot and leave it for another day and look for some new ground. We came across a cray pot so couldnt resist having a quick sound around it. More nice flat coral with a bit of a flare up so we stopped the boat and sent down the baits. Almost to the bottom when i spotted 3 dollies cruising around the cray pot rope so i put my rod in the holder and grabbed the light rod rigged with a small placcy which i always have loaded and ready "just incase". Polaroids on and a precision cast and 1 of the dollies nailed it! A few jumps and some dodging of the cray pot rope and we had a litle dolly onboard. We picked up a nice black ass and the decided to cruise in with a few lures in tow.

Sorry bout the kill pick but my camera died so couldnt take any picks until i was home.

So a great trip with a pb dollie for me and few new pb's for my mate and ear to ear smiles the whole way home. Well worth the trip up and cant wait to get back up there. A big thanks to Whitty for the hot tip on where we mite bump into some mackies, ur a legend mate!! Thanks for reading :)

saturdays fishing

So , me my brother and 2 mate headed out on one of our mates boat to get stuck into some good fishing and take advantage of the good weather today , we headed out from the ramp about 4:45 to go to the fads , we started trolling from south of rotto for about 10k's with no luck at all , so we decided to head out to the fad furuno where there was about 5 other boats with us trolling , but not really getting much. first off my mate cought a small stripey , straight after that my lure got hit then his lure got hit and he hooked the fish , which turned out to be a 6kg YFT which was pretty cool , because we have never cought one before and it fought a hell of alot more then any other tuna.

After that a few more boats pulled into the fad and i could see some guys hooking fish on flys , as the trolling was getting really quite we pulled up near the fad to do a drift , and with in minutes we where getting slammed on mules by dollys , every cast would get smashed , between us 4 we must of got about 15 , not huge but still size although we didnt take them all we took just enough for us to have a feed and the rest were safely relised , these were really fun on pe 2-4 and there was heaps around and put on a good acrobatic show for us. after that we trolled for a little bit and ended up getting 5 stripeys in total ,the amount of tuna schools out today was unbelievable every couple of k's there was tuna and heaps of them. we pulled up to the barge and dropped half tunas down to see if we could get another big shark there because last time one bit through my mates 300lb trace, but no luck , neither where the 2 guys next to us getting much either.

we pulled up near rotto so my mate could do a dive and we ended up with 6 crays aswell , so all in all a few dollys few stripeys , 1 yellow fin and some crays not a bad day. i think next time im gonna try pe 1-2 to try land some dollys because there not huge atm , then after leave it for a while once they start getting really big , i also tryed to get some on plastics but only got hit twice and no hook up

lazy arvo on the canning

went for a fish on the canning with fellow member sarcasmo flicken vibes around ending up with about a dozen bream and a couple of flatties nothing huge but a fun little sesh.

38cm bream

me and my brother went for a fish today arround shelly in the boat and got a heep of good sized bream, ranging from 27 to 38cm, had a few bust of from some good sized fish but couldnt produce.

Wifes first bream

Went down to Riverton today for my youngest girls birthday picnic, took a load of rods for my kids to have a fish and the tinny so they could have a ride, got them all fishing and they were all picking up 15-20cm bream, never really got into bream myself but thought bugger this, getting shown up by my kids again so I jump in the tinny with my eldest, get to some fishy looking water and start casting into the snags. Within about 15 minutes ethan had caught 4 bream about the same size, gutted, shown up again, decide to change tactics and fish with unweighted bluebait, first cast and a fish of around 31cm, great head back before Ethan gets a bigger one! After lunch managed to talk my wife, Pip into coming out for a fish in the same spot, same deal, got some between us around 20-25 and then both rods went off, mine went straight to the snags and I couldnt move it, Pip still had hers on my sons little tacklerat combo. couldnt believe it when the bream came to the surface, Pips first time fishing and first fish shes ever caught and its 37cm and 760grams! decided I might give up fishing cos if my kids arent showing me up, my wife is!! (Will post some pics when I can get a cable for my camera!!)

awesome breamski sesh

needed....... Wanted a new bream reel, so I bought a Ci4 2500 yesterday, spooled it with bass extreme hard pe braid and went down to the river in the afternoon to christen it!!

decided to fish a new spot where I have never fished before. it was awesome. had six casts there, so we didn't over fish it, so ther are plenty of fish there for when I go there in a tournament!!

in six casts,my mate and I, we pulled 4, 40cm+ bream and I got 1 bust off !!!!! we then decided to leave it alone and fish our usual prime spot.

this produced, we caught flathead, bream, tawine, juvinile pinkies, skippy, etc.

It was so good we decided to come down again this morning to see if our spot was a one off occasion, I picked up another 40+ and we got 2-3, 30cm fish.

then moved to another new spot which we wanted to try, where I pulled ANOTHER 40cm + fish.

I am very impressed with my new CI4 which landed 5, 40cm+ bream in its first 2 uses!!

all fish caught on Damiki SPs, MCarthy** SPs and live crabs.

ALL FISH RELEASED

sorry, not many photos and not the best photosbecause am using most of them and the good ones in a article also no photos of the bigger ones (using for article)

Gold Mine..

Hi all, thought I'd better fill ya's in on my latest placcy adventure....

I have been studyin my local charts off late looking for new ground (while the wind does it's thing) and I don't really like hitting the same ground too often anyway.

I marked a spot 20 odd mile out that looked promising on the charts 50m rising up to 33m so I decided to head out yesterday to fish a 2 hr window in the wind....

First drop resulted in this 3kg Trout...

Next drop my mate Mak (fishncrazy) nailed this 62cm Pinky...

Next fish for me was this 7kg Dhu which drilled the placcy half way down on the drop...

Another veiw of the placcy munchin Dhu...

Couple more twitches later and bang a nice 72cm Coral Trout....

Then to round out the day Mak lands this Honker Pink 83cm 6kg his PB and my boat PB too...

Nice shot of the Pinky...

So another succesful day out on the water fishing my new spot we named Gold Mine...

Cheers for the read guys..

woodman point groyne and boat ramp success results

Went to woodie point groyne and boat ramp with a mate. We got there and people were catching garfish and herring non stop and we thought we were gonna get ourselves some tucker. But we cast in and fish dont wanna bite. my mate(being the legend that he is) caught two baby pink snapper(snapper died of shock and got eaten by a pelican :( R.I.P baby pink snappers) and a heap of trumpeter and buttery. I caught a lots of trumpeter and buttery. and the guys next to us were still catching herring. so we packed and walked to the boat ramp. and then .... the fun started!!! :D we caught about 15 trumpeter one herring and 3 silver bream and a 21 kilo cobia lol jk. and then we left.

swan sambo

not huge, but my first swan sambo landed,

taken along the side of a boat shed on a SP

btw,

got a new camera that take a pretty sweet photo.

fish from the other day

hey guys

took some rookies out the other day to get them onto their first dollys, also had a bit of a jig and got into some sambos which was good fun. Both the amatuers fish were caught on live herring, damien decided to keep his for the table and long shanks decided to catch and release. Heres a few pics to check out

Damo's first dolly- went 7kg

long shanks first- went 5kg

damo's first sambo- estimated 20kg

To everyone that thought today wouldve been too windy and rough for fishing..

... You were dead RIGHT!! It was howling and rough as guts in the sound! I took the ski out and got absolutely soaked. I went out hoping to get some KG Whiting, but then i realised i had bought a packet of octopus instead of squid! The packet contained one huge thick tentacle and it was the worst bait, went soggy and water-logged after a few casts. Managed 1 size Whiting and heaps of those butter fish before i decided to catch my own bait! What was meant to be bait gathering turned out to be one of the best and quickest squid sessions ive ever had! Caught 15 squid in about 25mins, nothing HUGE, just good size to realy tiny! They were realy thick out there and super agressive, at one stage i had about 6 hiding a meter under the ski and i would just drop the jig down and hook up to one!

I went back to my whiting spot and first cast resulted in a sand whiting that i released and second cast i got an undersize whiting, fresh squid tentacles over octopus any day! Only managed one more sized whiting and released about 4 undersize fish, along with a bajillion butter fish!

15 squid and 2 king george aint too bad for a rough day out in the sound!

Gero Fishing with Placcy's

A few fish caught with snapback plastics off Geraldton.

More of the same..

Hey fellas,

Well after scoring my PB Dhu last week I couldn't wait to get back out there and do it again and yesterday was the day, the weather/wind forecast was looking good and with the day off work I headed out.

I also took a couple of younger mates with me that had been itchin to get out and nail a Dhu on placcy...

The day started of rather slow with the HDS showing a few fish but not many were keen on eating a placcy...

About an hr or 2 into the session I scaled down my tackle from PE 4 - PE 2 to try and get a bite and not long after I nailed this 8kg Dhu..

Followed by young Mitch with a solid 4 - 5kg Dhu...his first on placcy.. While my other mate Terry hooks up in the background......

To this Sand Snapper/Morwong which made Terry piss on his 6kg Placcy outfit...

The boys with there double hook up catches...

Next lump was alive with Pinkys and somehow my mate Terry gets a solid hit on the drop and pulls out this 7kg Dhu amongst the Pinks..

And to finish of the day I jigged up this 11-12kg Dhu banger on PE 2 which was an epic battle to keep him off the bottom in 40m... Happy Days.

All in all it was a awesome day after a slow start with a total of 4 Dhu fish, 5 Pink Snapper (60cm) and a Baldy I caught on a Sebile magic swimmer soft plastic that fell back in the water before I could get a photo.

Most fish were released with only the 2 biggest Dhu's kept for the boys.

Cheers Lloyd
