First ever mackie
Submitted by TheBradyBunch on Thu, 2011-04-07 13:50hey there guys and girls
After a long days fishing out near the west end of rotto and trying to chase down these furious an fast fish for no result on sunday we manager to hook up to a yellow fin tuna and a dolly but we lost both fish :( but hey u get that.
So on tuesday i manage to sweet talk the missus into letting me go out to try and get myself a fish or two. So i headed out to mindarie and got to the ramp at 2pm an was due back at the ramp by 6pm. I waited for my deckie to rock up an then we were on our way. When we got out there boats were scattered all over the place so we found a couple of nice bait schools deep so we trolled around that area an it didnt take long to get a hit but we dropped it bugger............... so we changed lures an i had to borrow one from my deckie (one that he had trolled with in other trips that never got a hit so) i put it on and out it went i think it only took five minutes for the lure to get smashed as all i could do was watch the line dissapear fron my spool. What a rush........
We got back to the ramp with our two fish each at 4.45pm after an awesome afternoon fishing.

Waldemar's Last Fishing Trip with Soupster 2
Submitted by soupster51 on Sat, 2011-04-02 12:18One of my good mates here in Pohnpei is unfortunately heading back to Germany on Thursday. We have become fishing buddies over the last 12 months so it was only fitting that we go out for one last session. We quickly found the schools and ended up leaving the dollies in search of something else. We quickly found a few yellowfin schools but unfortunately so had the sharks. I donated few lures before leaving a little frustrated with these efficient killing machines spoiling our fun and turning my day into an expensive one. We found another school about ten minutes later. It was impressive to see the fish boiling on the surface. 10 - 20 yellowfin side by side on the surface chasing bait fish is something I will never forget. We had a double hook up on the first pass and managed to get them both in (minus one tail). The sharks sent that school down so we decided to call it quits and head for home. Yet another great day in paradise. 11 skipjack tuna, 6 yellowfin, 3 dollies and 1 stinky barracuda.

Midday tailor from Friday
Submitted by beau on Sat, 2011-04-02 11:03A mate and i headed out late in the morning on friday to chase some more tailor on richters. Started off slow but eventually my mate hooked up to a nice 45cm fish on the pink plug. The reef seemed pretty empty so we moved to a spot ive never tried before and after finding a promising looking patch of reef my 1-3kg flicky loaded up with a solid fish and my mate hooked up to another fish over 45cms. Finally got my fish in and went a solid 59cms, 2 cms short of my PB, which gave me alot of curry on 8lb.

Winners are Grinners continued AIBT & Gamex 2011 Team C-Wirthy
Submitted by Goatch on Fri, 2011-04-01 18:19HI guys 'I,ve finally had enough time to sit down and go through the photos and see what we've got , hope you enjoy looking

One of the Sails we got during the AIBT comp , anglers name is Brian , a true gentleman and allround great bloke and his other half Jan fed us with the best sangas you can imagine
We were just off the money in the AIBT one more fish would have seen a different result , but we knew we were in the hunt , here is Jack hooked up on a Black we called for around 130kgs

Here's Deegsie on the tag pole on my fish we called for around 170kgs , measured 260cm bottom jaw to tail , bugger went deep and made me work on 37kgs for 45 minutes .

Jack swimming a small black for Deegsie
Some Billy's doing what billys do best , going

sick when they feel the pin
Here's the fish that sealed the deal for us 15 minutes to go before lines out and we were a bit happy as anyone who was listening on the radio at the time might have gathered .
We picked up Champion Boat Tag and Release Marlin, Champion Boat Tag and Release Billfish and Champion Tag and Release Skipper for Wirthy , all in all a great result for some hard work , all the guys that fished in both the comps put in the hard yards
and helped get us over the line , The boys from the Bush!!!!

More Metro Macks
Submitted by Luke R on Fri, 2011-04-01 10:12Hey Guys
Well I couldn't resist the window of perfect weather that was 10-3 yesterday and just had to get out on the water for a fish, with all the reports of macks around a lazy few hours of trolling for macks sounded quite nice. The waters sitting around 24.8 degrees and there is plenty of bait around. We definatly noticed a morning bite with the first hour resulting in 4 hookups and one fish landed. trolled for a few more hours with a small sambo taking a lure. Last hour and got our second fish. The fish are deffinatly congregating in the same area so if you hook fish or land one make sure you continue to troll the same ground. Lures that did the damage was a horrible redhead and one or the custom laser pro 190s that i designed for the shop. Anyway heres some pics

my second mulloway thats 2 from 2 trips.
Submitted by Chris fish on Thu, 2011-03-31 17:43hey guys just sharing my excitement of reaching another goal while fishing for mulloway last night. with the swell up and weed all over the beaches i decided that beach fishing wasnt going to be nice so went to a merto rockwall and tried for another mulla. at 8;30 i finaly heard the reel screaming and my poor little baitrunner 4500 loosing line fast, i lifted it out of the holder and turned the handle to set the drag and lent back, then it took off easily stripping 100m of line off the reel and my glow stick moving the fastest ive ever seen it and then dissapeared as the fish dove down. after about 10mins of climbing back and forth over rocks the fish finaly surfaced and was huge in the torch light, i slowly edged it closer to the rocks and the guy next to me was trying to gaff it i yelled at him not to as it wasnt done and sure enough it took off again. another 10 mins later and this time it was laying on its side and i finaly bent over and gaffed it and brought it up i was amazed at how big it was. not a bad effort for a 6-8kg rod and 30lb line (of course the big fish had to grab my light rod) it was 1.2m long and weighed 20kg and is my second mulloway in 2 weeks and 2 trips chasing them. glad the hard work and research is finaly paying off.

Any way as i was there some nob jockey jetskier decided to drive right through the balloons and boy did the ratches go off, was a laugh but made me wonder on how fuken useless the skipper on the jet ski was as the ballons stood out like dogs balls and they had notice the ballons earlier!

Dhu Town..
Submitted by TWITCHEMUP on Mon, 2011-03-28 10:28Hey crew,
Time to report my latest adventure off the coast of Dongara Sunday 27th March, with the weather lookin good an afternoon 3.30pm high tide and the inshore grounds being very shut down of late with all the hot/dirty water around I decided to head out and jig a few plastics on a nice little coral patch I have out in the 45-50's.
.jpg)
Half way out I spotted a couple of pro cray pots all bunched together so I decided to pull up for a look see, there was a couple of good fish showing on the HDS and first drop this solid Baldy nailed my placcy 5m off the bottom.
.jpg)
After catching the Baldy it went quiet around the pots so I continued on to my coral spot, the HDS was showing good coral with a few fish holding close to the bottom and first drift produced this Red Throat Emp.
.jpg)
Followed by my mate Fishncrazy jigging up one of the biggest Red Throats I've seen at 62cm.
.jpg)
Then it was MRSTWITCHEMUP's turn having her big Squidgy fish soft plastic whoofed by this 8kg male Dhu..
.jpg)
Next up for me was this 58cm Red Throat Emp which again hit the plastic hard up off the bottom.
.jpg)
Next drift and bang Fishncrazy is on then a second later bang "I'm on" ... Yeeww Double hookup to a pair of soild fish..
.jpg)
The results of the doulble hookup 5kg and 9kg Dhu Bangers..
.jpg)
By this stage the sounder was alive with fish on the flat coral and as soon as my plastic hit the bottom one jig up and I was connected to this 8.5kg Dhu..
.jpg)
And then to round out an awesome days plastic fishing, Fishncrazy had his placcy crunched by this 9.5kg Dhu..
By this time the Southerly was well and truly in and it was time to head home we left the schools of Dhu's and Red Throats biting.
So there it is another succesfull plastics session off Dongara in total we boated 6 x Dhus between 4 - 9.5kg, 5 x Red Throat Emperor and the Baldy. We kept 2 x 8kg Dhus 2 x Red Throats and the Baldy and released the rest in perfect health to be caught another day.
Now it's time to start getting ready for the Exmouth Comp just hope the fishing mojo follows team Twitchy up there, cheers for the read everyone.

Jurien Marlin
Submitted by adam.steff on Sat, 2011-03-26 18:45Went looking for some action at the JB FADS but couldn't find 2 of them. Finally found the southern most FAD but no luck with the Dollies, they were jumping though. Caught a Blue Marlin between the apparent location of the other two FADS. 30 minute fight and then released with no issues. Anyone else fishing tomorrow at JB? I am chasing Spaniards if anyone has any info on how they are currently going.

I must be doing something right..
Submitted by beau on Thu, 2011-03-24 20:27... Well kind of, i seem to be finding some decent fish, keeping lures on the end of my line is another story!
Headed today late arvo for less than an hour for a quick bash on the tailor. Got the tip off from a mate that a few goodens had been caught in the general area, so my brother Cody and I launched the ski armed with our light gear and plugs! Scored lucky with finding the school, 1st cast and mustve hit them on the head, one crank of the new stradic ci4 and the water exploded around the richter plug, hooked up immediately but got done on the reef, found out after the session that 15lb leader isnt quite enough for these bruisers, i continued to lose 3 plugs in less than an hour!!
Anyway to cut it short we caught around 5 fish, a couple double hook-ups made things interesting, many lost, Cody got bitten by a tailor for the first time, check out the photo of his hand haha, lost 4 richter plugs between us, average size of the fish about 50cms and 1.5kgs, a few bigger chucked in for good measure!
Loving the stradic ci4 too!!
Not too happy with how the photos turned out as it was quite rough out there and was more focussed and dodging the reef!
Cheers

Alex Nelson's State Record Wahoo... GAMEX 2011
Submitted by deepwater on Wed, 2011-03-23 22:09As the title says Alex caught a wahoo today weighing in at 13kg caught on 10kg line for a junior state record. Beating the previous record of 12.4kg. As the day went, it was very long and really hard to find the billies. Lures out and after the first wahoo which was about 10 and a half kgs on 37kg line so a no go for us. 2 hours later with the big gear out a wahoo bit every lure and finished on the 10 and hooked up. Alex was quick to jump and grab the rod and a 10 minute fight to subdue the monster.
Was a great day with 2 Wahoo and raising 2 bills.
Well done my little man ...same again tomorrow!!

New reel = New fish!
Submitted by beau on Mon, 2011-03-21 17:22So i bought a brand new Shimano Straddic Ci4 4000f yesterday for $60 off its original price at sale and was super eager to get out for a fish today after what happened last week, where i was 90% sure i had come across a school of the elusive Giant Herring. I took advantage of the midday glass off and launched the ski at Kwinana beach.

I headed to the drop off I fished last week and out went the 4inch placcy.

After a few jerks on the 2nd cast, i got a nice hit, a solid fat herring that got away without getting a mugshot. The plastic hit the water on the next cast and after one jerk i saw a fairly large tail swirl a meter away then BANG i was on, then launching out the water was a huuuuuge gardie! Nope, not a gardie, a pesky longtom! My first ever Longtom.

How's the fangs on this thing!! Not sure how i didnt get busted off too. She mustve gone about 60-65cms.

The release..

I scoot back to the sandbar and cut the engine, drifting towards the drop off with the gentle Easterly wind. I then spot the school I saw last week, crusing the drop off about 20m ahead of me. Out goes the placcy and after a few winds a couple fish break from the school to hunt it down. The rod gets heavy for a few seconds before the fish spits it, pulling the plastic down the shaft of the hook, or what i call pulling its pants down. So now my heart is racing, as the fish seem to be in a feeding mood, nothing like i saw last week. Hook on to one the next cast and the drag starts screaming, then 20m out, a goooood fish breaks the surface launching 1.5-2m in the air! I couldnt believe it, i thought salmon put on quite a show but these were just unreal.

After about 3-4mins i finally get the fish on the ski! So happy, my first Giant Herring, around 60cms long.

Using my new reel for the first time and catching a GH for the first time..

The release..

What a rush! By the time i got the fish in i was a fair while away from the spot so i raced back around and got stuck into another GH first cast!

I ended up with 4 landed, about 6 lost, and alot of hits from lontoms! At one stage there was a school of about 30 longtoms swimming around! Resulting in alot of plastics looking like this!

I'd have to put todays session up there with catching the snapper and huge tailor from the ski, what an amazing experience! Hopefully relive it some time soon!
Cheers,
Beau
