A very Kimberley (Lyne) Fishing Weekend
Submitted by damo6230 on Sun, 2011-06-26 17:42With the weather playing the game this weekend we decided to hit the Gulf and see what we could muster up.......
A plan was hatched and three of us boarded the boat and steamed out from Wyndham for a weekend of fishing and camping.
It was Nick (aka Dropbear, due to his exceptional ability to drop all but one Barra all weekend ), Jamie (aka Codman, due to his love affair with all things stumpjumping cod lures.......) and myself (aka Kota Gimp).
First stop was Fathom Rock and some taste of bluewater reef fishing. Dropbear and Codman exploring the depths
Plenty of fish on the sounder but only blue salmon.......
Next was a small rocky point on the south side of the Lyne River
Figured with the recent cold weather, a small bay with shallow water would have Barra sunbaking in the mangroves.........
True to form Codman was the first to strike
This was the only fish boated and we must have dropped a good ten fish from one mangrove...........but fun all pinging casts over each other only to be smashed in the wood
From here it was up into the Lyne River for some rocks to camp on for the night
Five star dinner, bread, burgers and beer.......
Codman made sure we had a fire
The lads camped on the rocks and I slept in the boat.
Awoke this morning to another beautiful Kimberley day and drove the short distance to our prefered wood for some Kota trolling, Codman strikes first again.......
She was a beautiful fish of 79cm
I picked up a nice 35cm Jack
And then it was my turn to boat a Barra at 57cm
With the tide turning it was time to head for home. The Wattles are all flowering yellow this time of year
It was all to hard for princess Codman
And as usual, the ride home was flat, blue and peaceful......
We must have hooked 30 plus Barra for the trip but only boated 4, but it was a wild weekend and we also scored Fingermark and Jacks and the odd Skinny.

Bread and Butter
Submitted by Anonymous on Fri, 2011-06-24 17:23Hey guys,
Went for a fish with my mate Paul yesterday and got a descent feed. Until yesterday, I had only caught 2 or 3 bream on lure, none of which had been very big. But yesterday I caught 3 in the one session on my favourite little sx40. The biggest one being 31cm which wasnt a bad one. Not huge compared to the ones they get down south but I was pretty happy with this fella. My mate paul got a nice flatty that measured 66cm as well. He got a little fella 45cm as well.
I went for another fish today down my fav little beach and got another nice bream, new PB at 32cm. Caught 4 whiting, 2 of which were 30cm and the tiniest little flatty I had ever caught.
All caught on the SX40. Bloody love that lure.

A good way to kill time
Submitted by deepwater on Sat, 2011-06-18 19:08With the boat broken a good way to kill boredom is to head down the gulf to catch some bait. A bonus was the 6 crabs we got which were walking around the sides of the net. The smallest was 136mm and the biggest was 178mm.

A Noble maiden fishing Voyage
Submitted by damo6230 on Fri, 2011-06-03 18:10Dropped the new Noble in the water last weekend after towing her across the Desert and Top End back to Kununurra from QLD.
After checking all the systems were go, off we went.
The destination was the Lyne River as Nick had not been there before and I wanted to have a look after the big wet we have had, and after being boatless for a few months I wonted the stretch the 'legs'.
The neat tides promised clear green water and the winds were going to play the game so the weather report said.......
We left Wyndham after catching up with Craig and his deckie who were going to follow us for half the journey before they headed for the False Mouths.
The ride across the Wyndham gulf was a little bumpy but the new boat is amazingly dry.
Not so for Craig's boat, and here is Craig drying out
From there we split to cover the next 30km by ourselves.
We hit the Lyne with no other boats in sight.
No birds or fish working so we went upstream some, to a little creek and we scored some queenies. After some fun we decided to hit some wood that held good Barra from my last trip back in December.
Deploy the new Kota i-pilot and troll over the wood.
First pass and up comes this little bugger
Suffice to say, the next two passes and two more Barra aboard.
While I scored the Barra, Nick scored some Fingermark and Javelin fish.
We raised a few more fish in the creeks but after the tide turned it all went quite, but that gave us plenty of time for the 80km run home.
Must say the hull rides like glass and the Kota is worth it's weight in gold...... and fish in the esky first trip
Plenty of fish left for you POC

leemos and scottlands day
Submitted by scottland on Sat, 2011-05-28 23:11hey crew
just got my license so decided to take liam (leemo) and my friend jimmy our for a fish squid (anything goes) hahaa. started at our usual bait gathering place but the tide was to high so we went to south mole flicking some snapbacks around first cast i hooked a goat fish ( not a flattering photo so im not going to post it). it was actually my first fish on plastics. then got myself a little leather jacket.
after this we started getting 'hawrassed' so we went for a squid
anywho first cast me and leemo have a double hook up to not massive squid (shamefully im admitting its my first hahha)
( my first)
i then got one more squid and it went quiet.
tide got down so we collected more bait and headed of to south perth for absolute nada (missed hookups on my part) this guy managed a feed atleast
made the call to go back down to the south mole. upon entering we saw this somewhat unusual piece of art
anywho leemo got me hooked on squidding but it was unusually quiet this bloke might have something to do with it
went back ocenside for a few more wrasse on plastics
im going to throw this photo in because i like it hahaha
no real fish caught but still an entertaining day

Decent Spearo Day
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Sat, 2011-05-28 21:37Headed out to the islands today with spearing only in mind, glassy conditions nearly all day and crystal clear water. Found a couple of good ledges with a few crays and found one bomber trout ledge with heaps on it for future missions. The bluebone were extremely flighty and hard work (except these 2), saw a couple of crackers but couldn't get any where near range. Trout went 68 and 66, both of them just too inquisitive for their own good. Great day out cruising back in at top speed with a coupla coldies, well and truly cactus now after three full on days on the water, quite glad the winds picking up for the next couple. :) Happy days.

Leeman land based report
Submitted by roberta on Sat, 2011-05-28 16:43Just come back from a week in Leeman. Boy oh boy you should see the weed piled up either side of the Town and Sea Rescue ramps. Couldn't go fishing either south or north of Leeman weed everywhere on the beaches, water close in shore filthy brown STILL.
Boat wise, think the fisherman in their boats had a excellent 6 days of fishing, the ocean was a mill pond and as we were eaving looked so inviiting. Went to Jurien on 26th May about 20 boats out there. Leeman every day about 6 boats out, didn't hear what any of them caught. Big gentle swell running, Just wish we had brought the boat, perfect fishing conditions for 6 days gggrrrrr Always the way hahaha
Saw quite a few boats heading north on the Indian Ocean drive, hope they get to go fishing as heard on the radio we are going to have 5 days of rain, expecting 50mm of the good stuff.

Jurien Bay Charter
Submitted by BlowieMasta on Mon, 2011-05-23 19:13Went out with Whitey (can't remember the charter company name) from Jurien Bay on Sunday morning... Had an absolute blast, man this guy knows how to put you onto fish. Had the best deckie ever too!
Trolled about between spots with no luck on the tuna, but other than that most of his spots were firing. Tonnes of mulloway, sambos and pinkies with the odd tiny dhuie thrown in (sarcasm! check him out!). A few baldies pulled up too, but only lil fellas so they were returned asap.
Not many pics, as we were havin wayy too much fun to grab the camera... main brag of the day was the Dhu below.

Today Bream
Submitted by Leemo on Sat, 2011-05-21 16:06hey guys. went out early with Scottland for some bream this morning. all up ended with 5 bream myself, and one grunter to scott. the bream were 27cm, 26cm, 33cm, 25cm and 26cm again. bloke near us also managed a very nice 43cm specimen. pics below. on another note, scott only managed a grunter, but also happened to slip over on the ramp. was extremely hilarious to watch him try to get back up. that was his highlight for the day, unfortunately. we were getting takes/runs on every bait we presented at our first spot. sorry for the crappy pic quality, was on my phone,
cheers, Leemo.

Full Moon Cod
Submitted by southcity104 on Thu, 2011-05-19 15:45Headed out on another metro deep trip with no real high hopes. A full moon and falling tide wasnt the best senario but gave it a go anyways. On the troll as we hit the hundreds the dollies began firing. Picked up plenty with salt water flys doing the damage. Left them swarming around the boat and head further for some jigging. With plenty of activity off the bottom showing and some great hits on the first drop our second drift paid out with Matt (holkk) boating a decent grey band on jig. Then one for me and another for lindsay. Boated a few more beauties and headed in. Great day on the brine!!!

Mid week mission lands Twitchy a new PB....
Submitted by TWITCHEMUP on Thu, 2011-05-19 15:01Hi crew a quick report on my latest trip out...
Somehow I managed to score killer weather for my r.d.o. (Wed 18th May) after sorting out a deckie and a 2nd boat (aka Fish Whispers) plans were set for a troll early on and then to head out wide in search of a few demersals on plakkies..
On our way out to troll for Spanyards I spotted this mass of bait moving on the surface, there was patches of bait like this everywhere...
With all the bait activity around I knew it wouldn't take long to hook up and sure enough this healthy 16kg Spanyola decided to play ball half hour into the troll...
After trolling for another hour and my deckie dropping/losing 3 more Spanish in a row we decided to throw a few plastics at a couple of reefy lumps in 12 - 16m within the hour we had caught 5 Dhu's (no photos) between 45 - 65cm all released.
At the same time my mate Jay (aka Fish Whispers) who was following in his boat had managed to put his deckie onto a 14kg Dhu (sorry no pics) in 13m which is a great fish for the shallow stuff...
The decision was then made to head out 20 mile to fish some coral grounds I have in 45m...
First drift over the coral lump and "THUMP" my big Squidgy shad was been whoofed by a monster just of the bottom and on PE 3 I had a battle on my hands with massive head shakes and powerful runs, a doggered attitude and lots of weight had me guessing what this fish could be...
After a good 3 or 4 minute slug fest and me trying to keep the unknown beast away from the bottom I had the fish coming up or so I thought... 5 minutes later we could just see colour but not for long as the beast spotted the boat and powered back to the bottom some 40m below..
Finally I had the fish beat and could see what it was "Shark" was the deckies call but then it surfaced and i could see it was no shark I was pumped it's a monster COBIA.... after the usual Cobia antics boatside my deckie lip gaffed the Cobe and landed me my trophy fish...
The cobia pulled the scales down to 20kg a new PB for me I was stoked....
Another Pic - Unforunately the Cobia was lookin worse for wear after capture so we decided to keep the Cobe for a feed..
After catching a few smaller Dhu's and a lone 47cm Breaksea Cod I decided to "Sound for Ground" and found some more coral on the HDS and jigged up this solid 60cm Coral Trout and a few smaller Pinkys...
In total we caught 8 x Pink Snapper 45 - 60cm (all released), 7 x Dhus 45 - 65cm (all released), 1x Breaksea (kept), 1 x Coral Trout (kept), 1 x Spanish Mack (kept), 1 x Cobia (kept).
So all in all another succesfull day on the water using plastics great conditions and a PB that will be hard to top anytime soon...
I hope you enjoyed the read cheers all..

My First Barra
Submitted by Percula on Wed, 2011-05-18 19:56Well as you could see in Dickos post (http://fishwrecked.com/forum/barra-blitz-fitz) we got into a few barra on the fitzroy.
I am gonna tell you about the week before, where I got my first!
Headed up to Broome to catch up with my bro (Marky) and spend a bit of time doing some relaxing and fishing!
Headed down to the fitzroy for a few days. Spent a whole day looking for fish, moving around and live baiting/trolling etc. After one day I think we had caught 1 mangrove jack and that was it.
We headed down to the other end of the pool we were in to catch some bait, and decided to troll back to the deep section. On the way Mark picked up a beauty of a barra at 93cm. Brilliant fish and I was stoked to see one in person for the first time.
Soon after this mark had another hit, and then it was dark so decided to call it a night.
Next morning we decided to troll the same area - first pass and my rod exploded into action, with a big flash of silver to the rear and line pouring of the reel. By now I was shaking all over and took it very carefully to get the fish to the boat.
It was finally netted and there was cheers and high fives all round! I was shaking and was pumped!! Mark was just as excited I think as a lot of people come up and don't even see a barra, let alone catch one!
Anyway after a few photos (lots!) the fish swam away strongly!
My first barra at 84cms!!
Big thanks to my bro - if you want to catch a barra guys, a few dollars and Mark might be able to help you out and be a personal tour guide for ya!!! I tell ya its worth it!
