Abrolhos + Twitchy = Trout....
Submitted by TWITCHEMUP on Wed, 2011-04-27 16:08Hey Crew well I managed to get out to Abrolhos Islands twice over the Easter break both trips were day trips in my 5m Quinny..
First trip over was the good Friday where I meet up with Flag Pole, Poddy, Spooled and some other mates and the second trip was the Easter Monday where I followed a couple mates over in there 26fter..
Friday we were on the water by 6am where I meet Flag pole and some other mates in there 26fter at the ramp before we headed accross to the Islands.
The weather was rather crap nothing like the forecast with a sloppy nor wester but I decided to push on anyway hoping the forecast was right for the arvo to bring better conditions..
First stop for me was to TWITCH a few placcys around on a some marks I have near Hummock Island while Flag Pole and Poddy + Spooled were playing around Wreck Point...
.jpg)
First drift over this promising Ground.....
Mrstwitchemup nails this 600mm Trout...
.jpg)
Then a min later it was my turn with another 600mm Trout...
.jpg)
After catching 8 or so Trout of the same spot I was glad to get stuck into a few of these smaller Pinks higher up in the water coloum...
.jpg)
So after being PINGED on my Trout mark we up and moved to some more ground not far away and Mrstwitchemup picked up this 650mm Trout...
.jpg)
The Trout were everywhere we couldn't miss with Trout smashing any plastic we dropped down... Here's another 600mm model that fell to a Squidgy Wriggler...
.jpg)
Around midday we decided to head in close to Pelsart Island and sit in the sheltered bay to have some lunch mean while I dropped a placcy down amongst the hordes of bait and scored myself this 580mm Coronation Trout... (Just don't tell Poddy... lol)
.jpg)
A quick "sound for ground" saw me find another flare up of bait and it didn't take long to nail yet another solid Trout....
.jpg)
By now it was around 2pm and we were feelin like some pelagic action a quick radio call to Flag Pole and Poddy + Spooled soon told us the pelagics were firing down near Wreck Point so off we headed...
Not long after setting the troll and I was on with the little Talica 8 losing a lot of line fast.....
Spanyola was the call untill.....
.jpg)
Mr Tiger Shark decided he wanted my Spanish more than I..... He left me with 4kg of head...
.jpg)
Now to Monday's trip early start on the water by 5.30am and well what can I say more Trout smashing plastics..
.jpg)
After having enough of catching Trout I decided on a quick troll which picked up this Shark Mackerel..
Then it was off to chase bait balls which were goin off up near Hummock Island there was Tuna, Sharks, Mackies and even Pinkys smashing bait on the surface..
I had a ball catching Tuna on poppers while the missus let her placcy sink down through the bait ball resulting in this placcy munchin 680mm Pinky..
.jpg)
Day 2 had finally to come to an end and here we are heading home after 2 awesome days at Abrolhos Islands..
In total we caught over 30 decent Coral Trout, 1 Coro Trout, 8 x Dhus, 4 x Baldies, 7 x Pinkys, 4 x Tuna and a Shark Mack and half a Spanish everything but the Macks and Tuna were caught on soft plastics..
We only kept 6 Trout, 2 Pinkys, 1 Tuna and a Half Mack for the 2 days fishing..
Thanks for the read..
Cheers Lloyd aka Twitchy..

fish ID req'd
Submitted by scotto on Tue, 2011-04-26 14:29hey guys, does anyone know what these are? are they any good to eat?
i shot up to cervantes on anzac day to go see my bro. weather look like it was going to be ok, so i took a mate and the boat. turned out to be a good day, and we ended up releasing a heap of sized dhus, and kept a couple to feed the troops at the house. we got a couple of MASSIVE king george as a bonus.
it was good to get my bro (first pic) onto his first decent dhu, and mine was a couple of kilos short of my PB, but neither photos really do the fish justice (taken on phone cameras).
ended up cruisin home at 24 knots over a glassed off ocean, beers in hand, smiles all round, and watched the air force jets buzzin the coastline as a tribute to the diggers that fought to let us have the freedom to wet a line.

Poddy & Spooled Get Abrolhos Fever!
Submitted by poddyfish on Sun, 2011-04-24 20:39Time for another report guys!
A decent weather forecast and a snap decision thursday afternoon saw Spooled & Myself load up the Blackfin with swags and gear and get ready to hit the islands. A few phone calls and talking tackle with Twitchemup and it was found out that we where not going to be solo in our mish. Twitchy unfortunently (probably fortunently for the fish tho) couldnt stay the night but Flagpole had crew and was keen as mustard. So it began
6am get go after a cricket function for paul and myself the night before saw us fuel up and head out from the marina. Flaggy was an early riser and already 3/4 to the first point of interest by the time we where wet but after a steady run of organising we where under way crusing over at about 19-20knots into a yucky nth - nthwest chop.
First stop just to stretch the legs was 14clicks short of the islands proper on a small coral patch id marked on a previous trip , a couple of quick drifts saw Spooleds stock of Gulp grubs depleted by a couple , one good fish lost and some small odds n sodds landed. We pressed on , contact over the radio reported nothing of huge note for the lads as yet.
Abit more steaming and we arrived at Wreck Point. Striped tuna busted up everywhere and it didnt take long for our spread of skirts to find its first taker. A nice tuna for Spooled. Back underway and a couple of hits later another striper showed. Wanting something of abit more note the decision was made between us to throw some bigger pushers and a teaser out the back and head for the deep stuff! Out went a Pink soft oscar for Spooled and a big lumo Pakula for myself. Must admit i was fairly confident of raising something! The lure worked wonder bubble trail ripping away and the water was a magnificent shade of purpley blue.
Alas after 3hrs of ziggin n zagging we had just another pup tuna to show for it. Did mark a lump that showed from 80-100m out on the 150m drop tho that could warrant a return visit. The lowrance showing just enough to spike my interests!
Racing back into Wreck point itself the pushers where replaced with hard bodies , A brand new CD 18 in orange and black ( christmas present from the bro in law barty85) and a big Xrap for Spooled... Radio chat told us Lloyd was killing it and Flaggy had landed a Troutosaur plus odds n sodds.. It didnt take long
One big charter vessel towing tenders was trolling the breakers so we stayed a tad further out inching back and forth from 40 upto 20m. Would have been a great time to remember the ratchet on my Penn! Bang the 24kg stick peeled over and we had our first REAL fish for the trip....
Lots of line was stripped extremely quickly and the fish went very high in the water column straight up. Dare we say it but we both actually called it for a wahoo , had only 5mins before hand been discussing wahoo captures off the point so we had high hopes... After a 10min fight we had it boatside and lit up! BIG WHO! Big shake of the head dislodged one treble but Spooled managed to pin a good gaff shot into the shoulder and it was ours! WOOT WOOT
Mandatory photo sesh began , slimy messy fish delt with and despatched into the brand new Xtreme Coolers box with slurry and we where back under way. Headed over to Flagpole and crew for a brag sesh , during which Paulie managed to get SMOKED by another troutosaur and deplete his stock of grubs again. Big fish he had half way up before it decided which way it prefered and bricked him.... The fish was actually still attached and after some manouvering of the tub it came back out but one shake of the head and it was gone, Result = broken jig head hook & a pissed off fisho.
The rest of the arvo was spent trolling back and forth , Some big hookups to unknowns , couple of good spanish landed including a double hookup and one badly damaged Rapala CD18. Flagpole managed to break the spanish duck on his tub and also got a double of small YFT which we very quickly begged them to despatch for the evenings dinner! FISHWRECKED COMP STYLE YUMMO!
Twitchy and his mate had by this time joined the party and we left them to a radio call of BIG hookup. By the time we had ripped around the point to flagpoles Coronation spot came the news lloyd had just landed a very large Head. Mr tiger had so kindly robbed him of a XOS spanish...
Into the drink for a quick free dive with flaggy , heaaaaaaps of trout everywhere - nothing monsterous but some decent fish amongst them. I nailed one for dinner and flagpole shot a big Coral Cod for his curry which i hear was a hit! Also had the privelage of company by a very large YTK.
Lump hopped back towards our camp site with nothing special happening , some lovely cool ales going down a treat. Spooled and I hit one more little ledge 4clicks from camp as the sunset and did it turn on! Pinkies everywhere from 30cms tiddlers to solid 6kg fish smaaaashing our plasitcs... Throw in a couple of small dhuies and groper and it was a ripper session. Some goodens again pulling the hooks or finding the coral. Everything released!
The navigation back thru the small passage to camp was a mission but no dramas and we settled in for the night joined by another group of boats up from perth. Asleep by 2030 knackered!
Next morning was a get up , eat breakie and off affair. Straight back to last nights hot ledge , and first drop i came up trumps with a STODGER pink on he light gear. Top fish and it joined the wahoo in the slurry. Flagpole managed some small dhuies and stuff but other then that it was quiet.
Moved around to the GeeBank area and this also proved fairly quiet to start with. Flagpole lost something large and we had our first pinger for the day come in to great us while we where occupied with fish. Honestly its a huggggge ocean out there and to have a boat pull up 50m from you in your drift line is absolute bullcrap! More on that later!
Couple of move and another of our little hotspots showed promise but shutdown after we got absolutely taken to the cleaners a couple of times so we decided to head to some ground for a swim 12k away
This spot was magnificent , jumbo crays everywhere but kew they where safe and every type of fish imaginable for a shallowish reef system. Everything except fish worht shooting that is! Did spot one large trout but he FLEW away on spying me and i think the area may have copped abit of pressure previously.
Just before departure tho a stud groper was found hiding almost straight under the boat and my RA Sparid did the rest. RIP fella
With time getting on and only 3 fish in the tub , spooled and i headed west abit more while Flagpole began the 80odd k trip home... This dive was to be veryyyyy different!
Anchored up in 6m of dirtyish water , nothing special on the bottom and began the hunt. Straight up a very good baldie of 6kg came in and was despatched. Then while sorting him out the biggest spangled emporer ive seen freediving joined in racing around chewing on the baldies innards. Tried unsuccessfully to sink a shaft in but no avail so took the groper back to boat and swapped guns to the big riffe for extra range. Was to be a wise decision
Used the yellowfin carcass for burly in an attempt to bring the spangos back , saw one breifly but again quick departure when the burly ran out. Then a large shadow caught my eye. Spanish Mack
Bit odd in such shallow yucky water i thought but i did a drop to midwater to see what it would do. I didnt really want to kill a spanish but orders from the boatman for some fish where in the head so i thought about it , then realised just how big it was! Not a monster by most standards but far bigger than any ive shot. Lined up and smashed it midbody. Couple of huge runs later and it was over.... Long swim back to the boat and pics
Bottomed out my 22kg shimano scales easily and im calling it 24kg which i rekon aint far off. Very happy spearo!
By now time was really gettin on so we headed back towards Gee Bank , only to stumble across a tiny lump in absolutely nowhere! Stoked we did a drift , myself loosing a gooden and Spooled picking up a charlie court. Reset the drift and bang spooleds on! As im checking the sounder i spy our 2nd pinger for the day approach. Outriggers out etc not a care in the world.... Bad timing on the fish front cause as they pass us by 30m away - no wave nothing gallash is landing a stud trout. Then they proceed to park right ontop of the lump!!!! GRRRRRR
Did 3 laps of the boat trying to get another drift but the lump was that small they had it covered before we saw red and a few words where exchanged.... They uplined and off they went again... Still it pissed us off muchly
Tried one more spot to get parked over by a well known local charter boat aswell . Hattrick for the day i guess before we had enough and departed for G-Town.
Lovely conditions the whole way back , cold beers and a couple of quality fish in the box for Spooled to restock. He was down to one pack of King George poor bugger! End result was the wahoo , spanish , 1 pink , 1 trout 2 baldies. Still a shitload of fish but well under what someone could possibly take if that way inclined....
Hope you enjoyed the read and the pics as much as we enjoyed our time out there! Next good weather break we will be back!
Cheers poddy & spooled

Young fella gets a dolly...
Submitted by Auslobster on Sun, 2011-04-24 11:41Good Friday wasn't all that good for us (not much caught) but my youngest lad got into the mahi mahi club with this little fella (oops, sheila!)...and none of that skull-dragging stuff either! He got it on ten pound gear and not without an argument...it jumped, it dove, it ran, it did all those silly things they like to do and he let it run, pumped and wound, and knew not to lift the head when it was time to net it. Mind you, he's had a bit of practice using the same gear on rat sambos off Mandurah and Jurien!

pike in the Yak
Submitted by madfishoholic on Sat, 2011-04-23 10:26Hi all,
I managed to get a couple of hours in fishing off of Ocean Reef in the Kayak. What a great day to be on the water.
I paddled only a mile from the marina and had a great time. straight away catching a nearon 950mm Pike. It was a bit of excitement. Lots of sharp teeth in the Yak for the 1st time. luckily a only just purchased a burkley fish gripping device. That was the best 30 bucks I have spent. it made it so much easier to hold the fish at retrieve my hooks then attached the grip on the side of the yak to keep the Pike away from fingers and toes once I slit his throat.
Shortly after I picked up a pinkie about 45mm which was soon back in the water.
I have recently purchased a hand held GPS for a 100 bucks. So I have marked the way points for next time. Another great tool for the yak.
Cant wait for another flat day to find some more great spots.

Lost Skippers Ticket
Submitted by roberta on Fri, 2011-04-22 11:50Ok fellow Fw'ers,
Old fart has lost his plastic Skippers Ticket, has paper one. Who do you get in contact with to get another one issued. He's looked everywhere for it, used to keep it in the boat with our crayfish and fishing licences but its gone in a nice small folder.
Some advice would be appreciated who to ring.
If stolen from boat, what the heck do we have to do, sign a Stat Dec or show the original paper one when getting another plastic Skippers Ticket.
Thanks
Roberta

Submitted by scotto on Thu, 2011-04-21 07:37we hit a good lump out south of rotto the other day....
we could not catch anything else but dhuies! ended up giving the bait a miss and dropping soft placcies down for a bit of fun! had to leave them biting, and ended up releasing about 8 dhues with a couple i the esky too. matty also dropped a donkey of a dhu, looks like it cut him off on its gill rakers.
we then headed in towards GI to snare a couple of crays for dinner. back at the ramp by lunch.
here's matty with a slightly smaller than average size for the day, caught on a mcarthy sp.

Metro Macks! Their still there!
Submitted by De-Crais on Mon, 2011-04-18 17:10We had a troll out behind West End on Tuesday the 5th for mackies managed a couple of hits but no hook ups, had a small window of opportunity with the weather Sunday morning the 17th so we decided to have another go at the Spaniards. Leaving Cockburn boat ramp at 5.15am we headed out to West End. Just south of west end we pulled up to get things organised the conditions were abit dark and gloomy heavily overcast and the water abit messed up with the light SW wind water temp reading 24.7 degrees. Got Yvonne behind the wheel while I set the rods and get my home made witch doctor (nick named the Moylator) in the water for its virgin trial. With my rod set I had just place the second rod into the holder and about to get the witch doctor in the water when my Live Fibre rod buckled over and the Tekota 700 started screaming after a good 10 minute battle and a couple of blinding runs my first metro mackie was on the boat!..Followed by some very loud Ye Ha's and a big squeeze for the girl.
Off we went again heading north out from west end not much happening that way so we decided to loop back and follow our track back to the mark where we got the first mackie my rod running a silver white red head X-Rap and Yvonnes rod a bluewater F18 white red head and now had the home made witch doctor in the water which was working a treat some really good flashing even in the overcast conditions. We had not gone far past the mark on the plotter when caos hit both rods were hit at exactly the same time, there I was trying to give Yvonne advice trying to fight my fish and keep it hooked up and get the witch doctor out of the water one handed when and as I could. After a good fight Yvonne had her first mackie at the boat but unfortunately threw the the hooks with a head shake. The fish I had on didn't want to know anything about coming near the boat it wanted to stay down deep and every time we got a glimps of colour it was off on another run eventually coming down to a slug out from one side of the boat too the other after about 15 minutes my second metro mackie was on the boat with on very shakey angler....With the first fish caught at around 7.15 and the second fish landed at around 8.00 and the conditions starting to get alittle worse we decide to head back into the sound and try Sulphur Bay GI for some squid we picked up 16 rather well sized squid in about an hour and a half and headed home to the ramp.
All in all we had a great day out
Chili squid and mackie steaks! Oh Yeah!

swan river sesh... and swan sambos
Submitted by aussie_breamer on Sun, 2011-04-17 22:04on thuresday, whent down to the river for a bream sesh...., fished some new locations with good results, first location using mainly vibes, and the occasional plastic, I pulled 3 bream, 2 flathead, lots of herring and some nice tailor all on konganku vibes and my mate puled out a flathead and some herring.
we then moved spots and I got instantly rewarded with a close to 40cm silver bream (arround 38cm), then shortly after picked up a juvinile pinkie and my mate caught a wrasse!!! lol haha
moved again and ended up getting a couple more smaller bream.
today,
started off at the same spot as thuresday and we picked up 2 flatties, 4 bream, herring and some wierd fish... lol.
moved again about an hour before sunset to get some sambos!!!, as soon as we got there, about 5th cast, I hooked upto my fist for the day, and after it trying to bust me off in every pylon in the area, and taking lots of line, i finally landed it. it was caught on a Zipbait sinking stick bait, worked verry fast and vigerous. not too long after hooked into another one, this time on a live bait, and he almost drilled me a couple of times in the pylons and shreded my light leader but somehow finally landed it. it had a demunted/retarded tail but still fought exeptionally well!!!!, changed to a new leader and sent down another livey which didnt get eaten, so when i was winding it back up, about 10-15 sambos, came charging up after it and one nailed it on the surface like a GT smashing a popper. was awesome!!!
unfortunetally my mates didn't land any sambos.
I also got another bream and some retarded fish..... I am pretty sure that it is a Rough eye??? (last picture)
cheers,
good fishing all

Exmouth Trip and Team Twitchy FW comp results...
Submitted by TWITCHEMUP on Sat, 2011-04-16 21:04Hi crew well I have just recently returned from a trip to Exmouth and what a great trip, altho the weather was a little hit and miss we still managed to pull a few good fish most days and Team Twitchy did very well in the FW comp...
I headed up to Exxy with Elise aka MRSTWITCHEMUP, Steve aka PLOP and Mak aka FISHNCRAZY we arrived at the lighthouse by midday the 5th of April and were off to launch at Tantabiddi by 2pm which is where we did most of our fishing over the week due to the wind.....
Great way to start the trip with a healthy little Coronation Trout on placcy from Tantas..
FISHNCRAZY with his first sized Coral Trout a 60cm specimen caught at Cooper shoals in the Gulf on plastic..
MRSTWITCHEMUP with a cracker 11kg Golden Trev that made her piss on 20lb, caught at the bottom of the Gulf on placcy..
The first few days were spent fishing the windows in the weather/wind so back to Tantabiddi we went where FISNCRAZY caught the best Rankin of the trip in 24m on placcy..
Next up for me was this healthy Coronation Trout jigged up in 25m.. such an awesome looking fish..
PLOP with a nice Golden Trev, we found heaps of these fellas in the north channel at Tantabiddi feeding under floating sea weed and by casting lightly weighted 2 - 4 inch plastics at em we landed 10 and dropped 4 more in one awesome 2 hr session...
My 5 - 6kg Golden on PE 2 in 3 - 4m soooo much fun....
FISHNCRAZY with his 7kg Golden..
The daily double.. we had heaps of double and triple hookups the Goldens were smashin anything that moved..
2nd day of comp which was blown and rained out and saw most teams sit it out but Team Twitchy decided to hit the shallows inside Ningaloo Reef south of Tantabiddi, lucky we did as I managed to catch 2 x 1m plus Cobia in 2 casts in 2 m of water off the one bommie....
This second Cobia was slightly bigger.... notice the storm front in the background..
PLOP with a solid 63cm Spango that drilled his Halco Scorpion in 3 m... We were about to measure this fish in for the comp when......
This 65cm Spango crunched my Cultiva Savoy Shad 20 seconds later.. This Spanglie WON us the biggest Spanglie prize in the FW comp...
After smashing the Tantabiddi Shallows and doing it tough in the wind and rain the weather started to improve by mid afternoon so I headed out to the corner of north passage where FISHINCRAZY picked up this tasty 50cm Trout...
I found some good looking ground with a nice flare up holding lots of bait and dropped down a plastic in 28m jigged the plastic back up through the bait schools and "smack" something had come at least 15m off the bottom to inhail the placcy.. My PB Coral Trout at 77cm and around 7kg's.. also WON the longest Trout prize at the FW comp with this fish...
Another Veiw of the beast... check out those teeth..
Last day off the comp day 3 and after a slow morning start MRSTWITCHEMUP nails this 8kg Golden Trev again under the sea weed measuring in at 91cm.. This Golden also WON the longest Trevally prize in the comp...
With only half a day left in the FW comp and with awesome weather I decided to head out to Helby Bank and drop a few plastics out along the back edges after catching lots of small emperors, trout and other small fish and getting sharked repeatedly on anything that half resembled a decent fish.
After continues moves to get away from sharks and to sound for ground there was only a half hour of fishing time left in the day when we hear a huge splash behind the boat we all turn around to see a Beaky free jumping 20m from the boat then next thing we know "bang" Steve's rod loads up and points towards the free jumping beaky we then realise the beaky has smashed Steve's plastic on the drop and he's on... YYEEWWW...
After a 15-20min fight with boat in chase Steve lands his first Sailfish and on plastic caught on a Stella 5000 SW PE 4 S-Extreme rod... After a couple of quick photo's I held the Saily over the side swam him for a min or 2 and off he went such a great feeling releasing an amazing sport fish like that. A first for my boat and awesome capture and most unexpected, the perfect way to top off an amazing trip we also were one of the 4 teams to land 1 Bill Fish each in the FW comp so we shared 4 ways in the prize money with the other teams another win for us...
So all in all a very succesfull trip for Team Twitchy we didn't really go in the comp to win it just used it for an excuse to fish hard over the 3 days and we somehow managed to win 4 of the prizes in the comp which I must say again a huge thank you to Adam and crew for putting together a very well run event and all the sponsors for the prizes. It was great to catch up a with a few fellow members, sorry if I didn't get to meet all of ya's, but don't worry Team Twitchy will be back next year but for 2 or 3 weeks next time 1 week just wasn't long enough...
Cheers for the read all..

MMMMMulloway!
Submitted by Spence on Thu, 2011-04-14 11:22My first fishwrecked post...please be gentle haha.
Making tuesday and wednesday night by mulla hunting nights this week, thought it was a great opportunity with the upcoming full moon tides and bit of rain to flush the mullas out the rivers.
Tuesday night went down to the local for a cast, fighting the strong winds and weed I had a wicked run on sunset....but failed to hook up.
Wednesday night, determined to get my revenge....hit the same beach. The calmer weather and no weed was very much welcomed. However, the pickers were ferocious and driving me insane. Herring/Tarwhine were jagged on my rig every cast after 30 seconds of soaking.
Just before 9pm, the pickers died off....that eery calmness, then crap combo of the two I had out had a picker looking bite, but then took off at full speed about 50m.
When I grabbed the rod, the fish had stopped and I was angry as for a brief moment, as this was the second in two days. But i chanced it and wound in quickly as I thought it had to be hooked with the tighter than normal drag I was running. I gained a good 80m of line before i realised it was still on it just ran right back into the shorebreak. Lucky break #1.
When it had realised I was into it, it ran out a good 50m peeling line like expected with bone rattling headshakes. Managed to gain half that before it did another 4-5 smaller runs of maybe 20m but it felt more like a ray now (i knew otherwise though). Really weird, I guess I know what people mean now when they think they hooked a stingray. The odd headshake here and there, but nothing like a fish.
This fish took me up and down a good 100m+ of beach riding at the back of the shorebreak. In the final stages after about 10 mins, my heart dropped as I felt the hooks pull, thinking I was on barely by one hook, i backed off the drag a bit. Lucky Break #2. On my 2nd Attempt I managed the beach the mulloway, to realise that hooks had pulled and the hooks had managed to foul the fish on the underside of the gills. Lucky Break #3.
I was stoked.....
Measurements: 120cm, a healthy 16kg. (I actually use calibrated scales, not thumbsuck).

Where the hooks pulled and fouled....luck as!

My 2nd fishwrecked report - PB Tailor (pics added)
Submitted by TonyT on Wed, 2011-04-13 14:35Well it must be nearly 2 months since i wet a line, I was sat in work on the net yesterday looking at the weather, and thought a SW at 15knots ish, 2.5m swell, but an outgoing tide as i wasnt going to get there till gone 5, but as the sun was setting i thought i might still have a chance of picking something up. Plus i wasnt on dog walking duty too, gf's turn.
So i rushed back from work, grabbed my gear and my 2 month old bait from the freezer which wasnt a good thing, all my mulies were useless, but i had some scaly macks so i used them.....
So i got to Hillarys aqwa just after 5 and set up my running sinker rig with a gang hooks and after starting on the mulies (which were old n soft n useless) i went over to fillets of scallies. after 20 mins, my rod was in the holder and as i was flicking my small rod around i saw my big rod bend, shit no drag taken, was set light too, then again, i was reeling in my small outfit quick as i didnt want to leave it in the water as the waves were a bit rough, bollocks missed it,so i brought my rig in, it had stolen my fillet.
Anyway another half hour passed and i had two more takes but no hook ups, i was getting a little bit irritated at this point, i was thinking my hooks are too big, was about to change them to smaller hooks but put another fillet on and gave it another cast as i was feeling lazy, it was nearly dark now too.
As i sat on the rocks with rod in hand a couple minutes went by and tap tap on by rod, bang i struck and YES IM IN, good bend in my rod and taking my drag, hell yeah.... Guessing it as a tailor but my rod was pretty dam heavy and iot was pulling good n then bang out it jumped, yes a Tailor haha.... now then waves were coming in on the rocks below , so i had to be carefull not to lose it, managed to get it in the bucket all safe n well and woooooooo a 46cm Tailor from hillarys, sweet as, im a very happy man.
i get happy catching whiting n herring, so as you can imagine i was extremely happy as it was only my 3rd Tailor and my new PB.
So last 2 times i fished at aqwa, i targeted tailor and came up trumps, my 1st ever Tailor was taken there about the same conditions too, it went 28cm, then my 2nd was 32cm, and now a bigger at 46cm, so now i'm hoping that will be the trend for the next 1 too.
Cheers for reading, i'll post a pic tonight when i get home, just sat in work at the moment

The whole 46cm........
The previous fisho must of got bitten off, oh well their loss is my gain.

Mackie in Metro
Submitted by Humdawg on Mon, 2011-04-11 19:56Hi Guys
A little delayed but a mate (GT) took me out off hillaries (just behind the reef) last Wednesday and I am still gobsmacked that we hooked two mackies and a northern bluefin tuna. I reckon the one below was around the 15kg mark. Hopefully they stick around for a little bit longer.
Cheers
Shane

Saturday's Fish and Big Cat Hunt
Submitted by Leemo on Mon, 2011-04-11 09:22Well, on saturday night Me and JohnM_93 headed to the north mole with the other FW guys in hope of something decent. Rays was all that was around. 6 by the time we left i think. met Sherbs there and suggested we head to his spot, for a fish and a big cat hunt ;). so, a while later, we arrived to a moderate NE, which was alright. rods in the water, we sat back after managing to find some fire wood to start a fire. heard some russeling int he scrub behind us, to the disapointment of only a small fox. at abouyt 2am, my big rod went off. it wasnt fighting much at all, until it got in close then it took off, busting me off on the reef. we then went to sleep, hoping for some tailor in the morning. up at 6 we were met by a freeeezing cold wind. ended up putting a thermal balaclava on, it was so cold. first cast in by 6:15, i had hooked up to what i thought was a big tailor. got it over the reef, to me feet to see a huge snook. measured at 78cm long. second cast i got a sizeable tailor, at 48cm. John and Sherbs wernt having much luck on the big fish, but managed to get a good 15 herring, losing heaps more. was a good weekend, regardless of the temperature and lack of big fish. thanks sherbs for taking us up, deffinately do it again. oh, and no big cats this time, but we will get it eventually.
Cheers.

PB Squid
Submitted by iphaen on Sun, 2011-04-10 22:51Caught this monster squid a few weeks back at busselton jetty at the end after an all nighter. He followed in our Live bait (which sadly wasn't very alive anymore by this stage). We caught 5 more (could have had more too) but this one was by far the biggest. I'm not very good at estimating the length of it but my foot is about a size 10 in comparison. (Although in the picture it looks like a size 4!) Sorry about the quality, it was uploaded on the iphone.

First ever mackie
Submitted by TheBradyBunch on Thu, 2011-04-07 13:50hey there guys and girls
After a long days fishing out near the west end of rotto and trying to chase down these furious an fast fish for no result on sunday we manager to hook up to a yellow fin tuna and a dolly but we lost both fish :( but hey u get that.
So on tuesday i manage to sweet talk the missus into letting me go out to try and get myself a fish or two. So i headed out to mindarie and got to the ramp at 2pm an was due back at the ramp by 6pm. I waited for my deckie to rock up an then we were on our way. When we got out there boats were scattered all over the place so we found a couple of nice bait schools deep so we trolled around that area an it didnt take long to get a hit but we dropped it bugger............... so we changed lures an i had to borrow one from my deckie (one that he had trolled with in other trips that never got a hit so) i put it on and out it went i think it only took five minutes for the lure to get smashed as all i could do was watch the line dissapear fron my spool. What a rush........
We got back to the ramp with our two fish each at 4.45pm after an awesome afternoon fishing.
