Boat storage?
Submitted by Sea goat on Fri, 2019-10-04 07:25Hi guys.
up until now I have been able to keep my boat in the garage, but with a bigger boat this likely won’t be possible, or at the least a mega pain.
will be looking to keep it in the driveway, which unfortunately doesn’t have much shade, and angles slightly downwards. likely to be fibreglass. Apart from a good cover, is there anything else I need should be doing? Given Perth weather conditions how do you ensure your fuel stays ok? What about batteries/oil etc, or water getting in the hull? Any issues with fibreglass becoming brittle/discoloured?
i guess security is an obvious issue, so was thinking sensor lights, and maybe some cctv setup, and last resort there’s always insurance I guess.
any major issues if the bow is slightly down on a slope?
Thanks heaps!
goat.

Old Quintrex dinghy seat removal
Submitted by Paul N on Fri, 2019-09-27 13:42I have an old 1968 Quintrex champion aluminum dinghy that I use as
a car topper . I want to move the rear seat forward but can’t for the life of me figure out how to get the seat out .
There are no riverts or bolts holding it in and I can tap it with a hammer and move it about an inch
back and forth but no further . Does anyone have any idea how these seats were fixed in place . There is foam under the seat
and no visible signs of how it is fixed in . The front seat is bolted in and the middle one is welded .
only have one pic on my phone but gives you the idea of layout
cheers Paul

upgrade
Submitted by Sea goat on Fri, 2019-09-13 15:49Hi guys.
was hoping to get some advice.
AM slowly starting to approach a time where i will be loking to upgrade my current stacer 5.39 sea runner. this has bene my first boat, and have been super happy, but will be looking to go a bit bigger given an expanding family, and also getting more experienced so hoping to push things a bit harder.
Hopefully will be looking at a plate aluminium as i want sometihing pretty tough that rides well, but may struggle to tow a fibreglass, and do a lot of boating myself, so need ot be able to habndle solo.
Problem is i dont really know where to start my research as am not familiar with many brands.
It will be primarily a fishing vessel.
solo launch and retrieve is a must.
will be brinign the wife and little one, so need ot be capable of doing occaisonal overnight stay at rotto etc.
towed by a prado with 2.5tonne towing capacity
ride well ( im starting to feel the knocks a bit)!
cuddy preffered
not intersted in the river, so needs to be an ocean going boat.
looking at something about 6.7m, anyhting bigger wont fit in the garage, and hardotps not really an option because of this.
rough budget or around 100k
so far looked at the barcrucsher 6.7c as will be able to fit in the garage which is also important. but not sure if they live up to the price tag?
have heard god things about razorline and surtees.
I am a year or so off, but want to take the opportunity of the boatshow to explore a few diffent names and get some info.
I was after some reccomendations of anything you more experience boaties think may fit the bill, and personal experiences, so i can do some digging!
Any advice greatly appreciated!!
cheers

What's your go to polish for your glass boat?
Submitted by Bradmac73 on Wed, 2019-09-11 13:28
About to tackle the reefie with the polish prior to summer. What are peoples preferred brands and why? Also what are your thoughts on hand polishing v mechanical (electric) polishers particularly on the areas of glass that have non slip finish or do you just avoid these areas?
Appreciate any thoughts youo have.

I'm having an issue with my 2013 model suzuki 150hp outboard not feeding any water out of the tell tale when connected to the ear muffs and hose at home. Tell tale has been fine when out on the ocean but will not pass any water though when at home wether it is in neutral or forward/reverse. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Prop speed or other coatings - any recommendations?
Submitted by pelagicyachts on Thu, 2019-08-22 13:37For people who keep their boats in the water - any products you have used on props that assist to reduce growth sticking?
I have used propspeed in the past - I understand you can now buy it retail along with a few other brands (prop one/gold) - to be honest I find prop speed to be ok -but at ~300 bucks a pop (to pay someone to do props) I don't think its worth it
It retails at 250 and the process of applying it is not easy
lanoguard works -just not for long!

Motor surged yesterday
Submitted by Manfish on Sat, 2019-08-10 13:56Yesterday while returning from the D9 I noticed my 4 yr old Mercury 90 4stroke surge a bit (occationally missing a beat, about three or four times )The engine was sitting at around 4000 rpm so reduced throttle to about 3000/ 3500 and the engine settled down. I did add some Penrite fuel stabilizer to the tank last week and was wondering if this had anything to do with it?

Diamond Deck
Submitted by blu2fish on Thu, 2019-08-01 19:29Just a quick question, has anybody used Diamond Deck on the floor of their boat? We have just removed the very old and according to some very smelly carpet that has been there since new (14 years) and even though Diamond Deck is rather expensive if it's a reliable product I might say bugger the expence.

Quintrex 610 hull strength
Submitted by Paul200990 on Mon, 2019-07-29 18:42Hey guys,
just after some info Bout the strength of the quintrex 610 offshore series hulls.
i believe mine to be an 610 ocean sport, 5mm bottom and 3mm presses sides.
with all the talk about pressed ally vs plate boat, I was just curious if anyone has got a similar boat and if they are still going strong. I got out regularly to the 120’s and fads jigging and never had as of yet.
Icom to Lowrance
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Sat, 2019-07-27 09:21Has anyone successfully wired up their Icom DSC to their HDS GPS and can let me know which wires they spliced together? Cheers JF

Ally boat paint blisters
Submitted by Scully249 on Fri, 2019-07-26 13:48Hi, just asking if the blisters under paint are just salt reaction. Should I soda blast paint back to aluminium and leave raw. Is it actually doing any long term damage to leave as is. It doesn’t look like corrosion.
thanks

Stability?
Submitted by Paul200990 on Sun, 2019-07-14 13:44hey guys,
took the project boatbot out on the water this morning, went well but a few thing I need to get my head around.
stability: the boat is pretty much empty. No fuel
tank in it or anything. Just engine and me and my othe rmate who came out this morning with me prob 150kg combine. We found that the boat is a good sea riding hull but I think it’s lacking in the stability region.
not sure that it’s pretry much a empty hull with a 170kg engine on the back only wouldn’t help it’s cause.
would love to get people thoughts and experiences on this and if they think when I add the 250l fuel tank in it that it all. The hullnis 6.2m 7.3LOA. 6mm bottom, 5mm side and transom with steel bar rolled keel

3/16 Hydraulic brake line fitting issues
Submitted by Darren253 on Sun, 2019-07-14 08:33In preparation for our Exmouth trip next week, I changed all of my bearings and brake pads last weekend and noticed that my brake lines were quit badly corroded. I actually decided to crank up the pressure on the handbrake and surprise surprise, identified a leak/weep inside the drawbar.
I went to Martins 1hr before closing yesterday and picked up a stainless braided hose kit. Unfortunately the fittings/nuts on the kit are too short. The treads on the fittings I removed seem about 3-4mm longer so the hose flair is 3-4mm from seating. The thread is the same although there is a slight difference in the female cone of the nut.
I’m not going to be able to return the hoses as new given some of the “trials” to get it working so do you know of anywhere who could re-crimp the correct fittings? Photo of the old fitting that fits the master cylinder and calipers.
or should I just drop the hoses and start again with copper tubing?
either way, this is now going to be a late night project only days before we leave for Exmouth
