whats the catch - doco on SBS next week

Looks like an interesting doco to be aired on SBS on Thursday Oct 30 about where our fish comes from (don't know that shark finning is particularly relevant to what we eat here but rest looks interesting)

Beach Camping North of Perth

Hi FW Crew.

Hoping to get out of the rat race for a couple of days in early November and do some camping on a beach, looking for somewhere we can throw a line in shore based, have a campfire and relax a bit. Was thinking North of Perth (say Lancelin or Jurien?) but open to suggestions. Would prefer to stay away from the caravan parks and just rough it.

Any suggestions on locations?

Cheers,

BD.

Bucks

I'm organising. A bucks party this weekend. I was planning on getting a toppy over for a couple of hours. A quick look on the web has them at around $130/hr. Not bad money (I'd take my top off for that).

Does anyone have any recommendations or know where to find cheaper waitresses (that still look ok). I'm just north of Perth.

thanks

2014 West Kimberley Pig Trip (Warning - Dead Animals)

Was lucky enough to get invited on another 13 day WK pig cull with my mate from Darwin, and 4 other blokes.

Didn't have a quad this trip so I spent it with another quad less fellow walking river banks and waterholes in 42-46 degree heat, went through an unbelievable amount of water and powerade. Middle of the days were spent resting up under shady trees watching the ends of waterholes for incoming pigs.

As a pair we shot 127 pigs (out of a team total of 302), 27 of our walked up pigs were boars between 70kg and 105kg.

As a bonus I also nailed an elusive black cat, thankfully I stopped him from crossing my path.

Anyway, here's a few pics.

Recommendations for Hunting Orientated Gun Club

Looking to get back into shooting.

I have experience with Rifles but mostly Handguns in the past.
Handguns are fun but i'd like to take up with Field Rifle shooting with the view of becoming more proficient at long range shooting with Centrefires around .223 or .243

Ive done a bit of googling but haven't found much, does anyone know of a Rifle club (Pref SoR) that not only does field shooting practise and competition but has a hunting arm or group within the club to go on hunts?

I'm a SSAA member but don't hold a current FAL

Cheers!

Opposite Lock 4wd Accessories Store "promises and lies"

A word of advice to anyone who decide to support this "franchise" in Mandurah the same way I have recently only to say that I regret I ever did!!!

I placed an order for a Delux Bull Bar and paid the full amount the 15th of Sept and received a call of it's arrival on the 25th.

When I went to collect the B/Bar I was told at reception the bottom plates never turned up "disappeared in transit" so after losing my cool outside the shop and realising I spend $1700 for something and then asked myself why did they not tell me that over the phone in the first place which would prevented me from driving all the way, I mean ......

Anyway I got told by the Assistant Manager these so called bottom plate guards will be here the following Monday 29th as it's being air freighted in via Queensland ..... well that week went passed 3 WEEKS AGO. Then I was told it will be here that week Friday 3rd guess what? stillllll nothing.

Last week Monday 6th I got told it's now definitely going to be here delivered to my door Friday 10th ..... STILL NOTHING and yet I have to call themmmm to ask, not them calling me nah.

This last Monday 13th gone I finally received a call "my word" and was promised the world. it's now definitely being air freighted in from Thailand of all ... places and will once again be delivered today and yet Today came and went and STILL no ......... plates with another lot of excuses.

In all my 7 years living in WA I have to admit that the service here is below 3 world country with one excuse to another and one apology to another. I mean air freight don't take 3 ffffff weeks. My gut is telling me this will end in court, I might be wrong. Thank goodness I did not buy the winch off them, this I bought off a web site in London and payed $500 and it was delivered at my front door 7 days after payment - NOW THATS SERVICE.

So please stay away or else pay once it arrives!!

Edit - a bouquet for rottnest island authority!

Please read my comments at the end as i have edited my original post!

Used my boat in Feb this year as a support boat for a solo swimmer in the rottnest channel swim (he was the one that proposed to his girlfriend at the finish line).... we booked and paid for a camp site overnight.  $11 per person for an unpowered site.  No problem with that.  New camp kitchen, new ablutions, they tell us.  Great.  Set up camp.  Only cold showers :/.....  camp kitchen has four new gas bbqs.  Two not working and the other two not cleaned for days....

Hmm.... provided the authority some feed back on that one...

Doing it again this summer.  So wifey goes online today to book a campsite....

Get this!

New price....

$35 per person per night!

Three times what it was in February.

Justify that RTA?

Clarification (the edit) - The authority's poorly designed website gives the indication that the coSt is $35 per person where in fact the cost is $35 per site (max 6 people / 2 tents).  Last year was $11 per person, so it is in fact a REDUCTION in price.  Well done RTA.  Now fix up your webpage!

Dash Cameras

just bought a new dash camera for the ute, so hopefully I can capture some of these morons on the road. I'm a little paranoid driving around up here and I've already seen some absolutely diabolical things already but I'm sure that's just the tip of the iceberg, so hopefully I can even record something to prosecute some of these guys if it comes to that. Might even be good recording some of these bike riders who always claim to be doing the right thing.

pathetic effort from our authoritys

I was down at the Bent st boat ramp today and noticed a small 4x4 bogged to the diffs directly opposite the ramp at the end of Tern island (it was a Nissan x trail ) small crowd started gathering to watch said knob heads antics.  As its a protected area your not even supposed to walk out there. I thought I would ring rockingham parks and wild life, surprise, surprise no answer , I thought bugger it, ring the cops.  to their credit they did turn up after about 20 minutes watched them for about 5 minutes then they drove off.

By this time a bloke in a Nissan patrol had driven over and pulled them out, so they took off around the ocean side of Tern is and got them selfs bogged again (I had driven down to the ramp between pengos café and Bent st and could see them again. I drove back to Bent st and told the Nissan owner they were bogged again he said "fuck those idiots they are on the piss and can dig them self out".  I rang parks and wildlife again and got answer this time, explained what was going on they said not really our area but we will notify the council ranger. After another 20 minutes parks and wildlife decided to come down for a look for them selfs just as the dicks were coming off the beach at bent street. p and w had a quick chat with them for a minute and let them go 20 minutes later the ranger turned up but they were long gone. Bloody hopeless effort by cops, p and w and rangers the said idiots were driving through the nesting areas

Flies

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed the amount of flies around at the moment now that the weather has started to warm up?

Wondering what people do around at home to control them?

I've got about 6 of the fly catches up which are filling up every 3 or 4 days and there are still millions hanging around.

Anyone else have any other ideas? Any slow release scent solutions that seem to keep them away?

Bodie

Quobba in November

Heading to Quobba in 5 weeks for another week of LBF. If anyone else heading up there would love to catch up for a brew or 2. Will be staying at Smithies.

Here is a video from last year showing what we got up to over the week -

Gold Spot Sweetlip

I caught a 49cm Gold Spot Sweetlip yesterday out past FFB. Never seen one before so brought it home and looked it up to see if it was worth eating. In the guide on this forum it says "Considered poor eating and needs to be bled, cleaned, gutted, filleted and skinned etc on capture".

I killed it using the iki jimi method and threw it in the ice slurry. It wasn't till I got home that I gutted it and thought I would give it a try smoking it in my Bradley Smoker and see how it goes. If no good it could be fed to the dog or cat next door. I used a brown sugar and salt mix and left it soaking for 18 hours in the fridge. Pulled it out and hung it to dry out a little then into the smoker it went with a little maple syrup at 80degC. After 2 hours checked it out and its very nice, moist and tasty. Certainly not as bad as I thought it would be. So don't believe all that you read in the guide.

Perth Boat Ramps

Unsure if someone has attempted this before but I think we should put together a campaign to change the current design of the Perth boat ramps. I don't believe that the current designs are good enough. Meaning that they should be the floating platoon type, the type that has a "rubber' edge to protect you boat if it is tied up to it and it floats up and down as the tide comes in and out.
We all pay a lot of money for our boats and should expect for them not to be potentially damaged every time we use a ramp we are paying to use.

The current situation where there is concrete poles can cause damage to you boat, I know that you can buy floats and then put them between your boat and the ramp it will in most cases avoid this. But most ramps this is still not viable as you always kind of need someone in the boat ensuring the floats are between the boat and ramp pier especially if the ramp is full and you have no option but to go on the side where the wind will be blowing you back into the pier.

We all pay a lot of money to use the ramps and feel like we should be getting a little more bang for our buck. they seem to be more than willing to fine us if the parking ticket has expired.

I am unsure though who to direct this campaign too though, is it the local council, The Department of Transport and or Main Roads?

What are everyone's thoughts?
